Crab cakes and a few hush puppies.
    Mark B.

Stopped in for the crab cakes that they are known for. $30 with 2 sides, was just an ok experience and far from the best crab cashes. Not sure what the norm is but they were served with cocktail sauce. I find a remulade to be a better option. Believe it was Kathy who came to check on us at the end of our meal.

Planned a visit to Fort Delaware and wanted some lunch. Kathy's is very welcoming and home feeling inside - booths or tables, plus an outdoor area (that was being used for large party). Amy had a great personality and made us feel like we've been there before. Bathrooms were very clean. Food was beyond what we expected. Everything came relatively quick, and hot. Cash preferred but they do take a card - would definitely go back if we hit the area again.

Different Cheesesteak #901. Great stop! Great family run place! They made me a Surf & Turf Cheesesteak! Their already famous cheesesteak with a crab cake mixed in! They very nicely accommodate my special request at dinner time on a friday. Only thing that would have made this better if Carole and I had just biked the canal trail.

A show of respect for those that didn't make it home, at Kathy's Crab House, Fifth St., Delaware City Thank you

Our server was very kind and seemed to know all the locals, and she told us the nearby location the crabs were from. Be aware that you can't put tip on a credit card and they no longer have an ATM. If you go, you shouldn't expect fluff, frills, or fuss, but you can count on the best crabs you can find based on our experiences. We ordered 1 1/2 dozen crabs, a basket of fries, 3 pitchers of beer, two water bottles, 2 single beers - one draft and one bottle, and our total bill was $190 ($100/dozen for crabs). Also be aware that they have crabs Thursday through Sunday, and you can call to reserve the the # of crabs you want. We learned the hard way last year that they can sell out quickly based on reservations. I almost forgot to mention they bring out ice cold frosty beer mugs! Cheers!

We started looking up restaurants and Water Street popped up. When we pulled up, we weren't sure if we were at the right place. Based on the raving reviews, we expected a "flashy", fancy place. Instead it was so "unassuming." Upon walking in....it was just what we needed. It felt "home-y." The hostess greeted us with a warm smile and "welcome," along with some salt water taffy. Then we met our server Caden. He was outstanding!!!! He could tell we needed some good food and drinks and boy did he deliver. My husband and I took his recommendations and ordered the "banana old fashion" and crab crostini...HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!! Then we met Cassie!!! She'd stopped by to see if our daughter (9) needed a refill. Her personality, hospitality, and attention was incredible. Between Caden and Cassie, we laughed so hard, quickly forgetting about the long day we'd had. Traveling often and coming from PA; good customer service is rare. So to find somewhere that makes us feel "right at home," is a blessing. My husband and daughter agreed, we had to come back. We returned yesterday for the second time but this time with our family (from ATL). We'd spoken (more like bragged) so much about our last experience, that they were just as excited as us to return. Once again, we saw our girl Cassie (who was just as amazing as the first time) and our server Jamie. Everything from the Chesapeake fondue, calamari, and cream of crab soup to the drinks and the double crab cakes (P.S they are huge...could barely eat one) were incredible. By the end of our meal, our family was just as impressed! Thank you Jamie and Cassie for such a unforgettable experience. We will be back again!!!

Probably my favorite things were the crab hush puppies, and the fresh fish, served with pineapple. The entrees came with two sides. Therefore, I tried four sides. The French fries and potato salad were really good. The fresh vegetables had onions in it. I am not a big onion fan. The coleslaw was good. Next time, I will order the fish, with just one side- the potato salad was very large. For an appetizer, I will get the clams again, and the crab hush puppies. Yelp was so helpful guiding me to the hush puppies. The chef prepared our food outstandingly. Coral was are very friendly server. A nice meal with an outstanding server and a view of the water made for an excellent day. The host and the people helping out to clear the table were very nice, also. With plenty of outside seating and perfect views of all the boating action on the canal Schaefer's is the perfect spot for an early dinner. While the place is always busy, especially when the weather is nice, we were seated within 15 minutes---just enough time to order a few drinks from the large outside bar. Our server was exceptional given the number of tables he seemed to be handling as he stopped at our table frequently between trips to other tables and getting orders in. I think it was great he had help---our appetizers and food were brought to the table by another staff allowing our server to focus on taking orders and getting them to the kitchen---a very well run restaurant! We had the Fresh Berries & Greens salad---Served with honey raspberry dressing, gorgonzola cheese, mandarin oranges and toasted almonds. Portion was on the larger size and worth the price. Also tried one of their specials for the day--a Mediterranean garlic chicken flatbread and it was baked to a crispy crust and topped with a balsamic glaze. Highly recommend if you see it on the menu. While we waited for our dinners we sipped on a couple glasses of red blend and enjoyed their Chips & Salsa which included Tortilla chips served with tomato and mango salsa and guacamole. Chips were fresh, the mango salsa had a nice kick, and the guac was tasty and not bland. An appetizer very much worth trying! My lobster, shrimp, crab and asparagus soup was nice with every spoonful being a different bisque. My crab melt was, meh. Backfin crab, that didn't resemble crab imperial, too many shell fragments in addition to filler, an invisible slice of tomato and a very dense pretzel roll made for a very mediocre experience. A companion had coconut shrimp, which he liked. Another had a crabcake, which like mine was backfin meat with a lot of filler. She was unimpressed. Another had crab tacos, which she said were "fine". She also had sweet potato fries with a marshmallow dipping sauce. Do I need to rate that? (Our friends are from coastal Maryland and they were convinced we were not eating Maryland crab.) The restaurant is large with water views and clean bathrooms. Lastly, the service: Sophia was 10 out of 5. With a quick search for local restaurants, I came across Randazzo's Trattoria. I punched in the address of 103 Patriot Drive into the GPS, and off I went. They have some merch by the front door in a little branch-off area to the left as you walk in. Then I turned right and met with a queue of people waiting for a table. Very rarely do I run into a queue waiting to get into a local restaurant. However, everyone I've ever visited has been so worth the wait. Again, my foodie senses were tingling in a good way. As I waited, the counter was to the left, and behind the cashier, you could watch the staff make the pizzas. I was mesmerized. I love places that have an open view of the kitchen. There is something poetic I find about watching a cook or a chef prepare a dish in the kitchen. I overheard the hostess talking to the couple in front of me about their reservation. So good tip, if this place is going to be a return stop, make a reservation. When it was my turn, the hostess was friendly and showed me to my table. I sat with a perfect view, directly looking at the kitchen door. So, there was more to the kitchen in this place than just the pizza counter I saw as I stood at the front. The place is a flurry of activity. The wait staff was flying through the place, getting drinks, delivering food, and getting refills. My waitress told me later on that they were short-staffed, which explained all the activity. Again, the staff was really hustling, which included the hostess. When she wasn't showing guests to their tables, she cleared tables, ran orders, and got drinks. I started with the side salad that came with my meal. It looked and tasted fresh with a wonderful balsamic vinaigrette. It was a delicious and delightful beginning of the meal. I didn't see any rusty lettuce, and it wasn't served on a cold plate, which suggests it was plated earlier in the day and kept refrigerated until serving time. It doesn't always mean that; sometimes, places refrigerate the plates they use for serving salads, and that's not a bad thing. But I have come across places that have done the aforementioned offense, and you can usually tell with the lettuce and other veggies being dried out and not tasting as good as fresh ingredients. This was not the case with Randazzo's side salad. Next, whenever I see garlic knots on the menu, I have to order them. What can I say, I'm a huge lover of all things bread. Especially when it's covered in garlicky goodness. For me, these knots were perfectly made. They pulled apart, steam escaping from the now-exposed crumb within. The crust had just the right crispness. And the overall chew was wonderful. The interesting part of this dish, for me, was the sauce. It was a thin, semi-watery sauce. It had a mild taste, and the seasoning wasn't overbearing. It complemented the garlic knot well. To my taste buds, the sauce became the welcome mat to the goodness of the garlic knots. As it hit my tongue first, it was like it was saying, Welcome. Allow me to introduce you to my friend, the garlic knot. These are a must-try if you ever visit the restaurant. Then it was on the big show. The main course. I ordered their Chicken Piccata with Linguini. In all the dishes I've had, it's always been served with breaded chicken. This one threw me a bit with them making it with grilled chicken. But my goodness, it did not disappoint. The chicken was so tender. Perfectly cooked. And look at this portion! The picture does not do it justice because it was a massive plate. The other star of this dish was the sauce. Most dishes I've had are a mixture of lemony butter, maybe white wine, broth, or sometimes oil. This was not your plain Jane Piccata sauce. The lemon and butter were definitely there. I think I tasted a hint of wine, but they either added flour or something else that gave it a little more body and a creamier texture. And the Capers! They were huge. I've never seen capers that large. They just added that little extra to the dish with their little pop of lemony smoothness when you bite into them. And the linguini was wonderful and cooked perfectly. The dopamine my brain was flooding my body with sent me deeper into gastronomic bliss with each bite. Before I knew it, I had finished the entire plate. My stomach yelled at me later as I waddled my way out to my car, but damn, it was worth it. My overall experience with Randazzo's Trattoria was absolutely wonderful. The staff was warm and friendly, even as they ran around the restaurant, truly hustling. And I speak from experience, that is not easy to do when you're working a full shift. If you ever find yourself in Middletown, Delaware, I strongly suggest stopping by Randazzo's and giving them a try.
