We have dined there many times and always had the seafood "Platter" and were always completely satisfied. This time we had the seafood "platter" but it was served in a basket with everything piled on top of the flounder. It was hard to cut the flounder. Also, because everything was breaded and deep fried you could not tell the hush puppies from the scallops, I thought the service was fine but the food not so much. Took my family out for a really nice seafood lunch experience. We wanted crabs. We were celebrating my kids High school graduation. Did some research and found this place. it looked really inviting and we were super excited. This place opened at 12 noon. We walked in the doors after 12:15 there are other customers inside seated. I even held the door to let others in. Plenty of empty tables. Upon walking in and waiting to be seated, we were asked how many was in our party. There are three of us. We waited and waited and waited some more. All while at least 5 employees stood near by and they all acknowledged us. You know all heads turned to us as we stepped up.Waited much longer than we should've to spend what would have been a few hundred dollars. LONG STORY SHORT. IF YOU'RE NOT WHITE THEY Don't WANT YOU HERE. I've dealt with racism throughout my years and I have to admit it's been a really long time since I've experienced it at this level. Boondocks is something else! It's located in the boondocks. I had the steamed crabs , which I hadn't had for years. They are messy, hard to eat and delicious. I made quite a spectacle smashing them in pieces! My wife had a rather weird but good crab cake nestled in a crab bisque with a soft pretzel on top. Strange but it worked. Today is March 21 and we are local with this place. We saw this order but it didn't have no price on it. That was disappointing. We had ordered two of these and we ordered my kids food got drinks. My mom got a swamp water. It was too iced down. It wasn't the same like usual it really sucked. It did not taste like alcohol. It tasted like straight water and ice down. There was no buzz nothing that was $15 which that had a price on it but this I'm showing you right here is crazy so they bring us the food and didn't tell us anything so we respected it to be a little bit cheap. OK I can manage 150 OK so we asked how much is this? She says $100 each. I felt like if we didn't ask felt like you were set up for failure so my bill came up to $250. Make sure you guys don't fall for this trick. It's really messed up how everything else has a price but this is $100 a plate people I don't put me wrong. The crabs were really good very good. I get that at 20. The corn was very great. I felt like the shirt could've needed a little bit more seasoning, but it was good. I cannot complain about anything else, but these prices are ridiculous after we got done paying the bill. I got my receipt told her I was gonna tip her some money well my funds was getting tight so I gave her a four dollar tip. She gives me that ugly look now I get it. It's four dollars at least be grateful that you got something from me cause $250 is a lot of money, your mother or two kids paying for bills and taking care of other things it's hard for other people and I really was happy that I had extra money on my card but still please do not fall for this. We had a very disappointing experience at Boondocks Restaurant. I have never given a restaurant a one star review, but in this case, it's well deserved. We had brought our own water in order to save money, as we knew that Boondocks charges for water, and will not provide tap water. After we placed our order, our waitress hurried over an said that we could not bring outside drinks and cups in to the restaurant. I explained that it was only water, but our waitress insisted that we could not drink it in the restaurant. I offered to pour out our water, and get tap water from the men's room. But, that wouldn't do, as we would still be using cups that we brought from outside. After our waitress returned to her station, my wife, who was steaming mad by now, went to the bar and cancelled her order. In retrospect, I should have done the same thing, as my hushpuppies were the worst I have ever eaten. They were extremely dry, and even adding butter did not improve their consistency or flavor. This was all much to the embarrassment of our dinner companion, who is a regular at Boondocks. I have to say that we have eaten in restaurants all over the United States and Canada for over 50 years, and this is the first time in all that time that we have been refused tap water. I would understand if the local water in the restaurant was not potable, but this was certainly not the case here. I had to drink water out of the tap in the men's room later to wash down those arid hushpuppies, and have still encountered no ill effects. Needless to say, we'll never be returning to Boondocks. It has left a bad taste, in more ways than one. read more

I am a huge fan of this place. The soup is incredibly tasty and the crabs are simply amazing. The freshness and seasoning of the crabs were exceptional. I would have given it 5 stars however, I was slightly disappointed when my husband ordered the fried seafood platter and discovered that the seafood was frozen from a box and not fresh. I recommend adding at least fresh fried shrimp to the menu to enhance the overall dining experience. Despite this small setback, I still highly recommend this seafood restaurant. read more

We were in the area from Tulsa and literally just typed in "seafood" and landed at Boondocks. BEST thing that happened to us all day! Great atmosphere, when you walk in you just feel like family. Very warm and welcoming. Had the cutest little waitress that gave us excellent suggestions (which I took- and you should too!!) we ordered 2 Fisherman's Platters and some crab cakes. These crab cakes were the meatiest most delicious bundles of joy you can ever imagine! Family and I went here for Fathers Day. It's a typical crabhouse. There was no wait, and the parking lot was full. We started off by ordering the crab dip and pretzel. The dip was good, but the pretzel looked like they picked it up from the local Wawa. Entree for me was two crabcakes. Food arrived pretty quick. Crabcakes were delicious, however, it appeared they were not cooked to order, and were kept warm for a period of time. The crab seasoning was gross. If its 'their own' they need to use less salt. Off the beaten path, this swamp water gem awaits with the meatiest crabs and fried artery clogging goodness. Twice in a row the same week first for a half dozen number 1s then the AYCE crabs Friday. Ordering crabs off the menu can take awhile and come out too hot to touch! The AYCE crabs are in huge metal tubs and you are limited to 6 per visit with your platter - you can return with the same platter. There is no time limit but rather till the crab pots run out which for us was about 3 hours from time of arrival of 5ish. The seasoning blend is mild and unique and hot sauce, spices and melted butter are also supplied with the crabs if you're craving more flavor. Dranks are kinda where I knocked I star because even though the $9 swamp water is a delish must in a generous jar, other beverages are single serving unless you order a pitcher. Even water is sold by the bottle for $1- so when you are eating salt laden seafood those dranks add up $$$ The decor is quirky, unique, funky and bold. Vanity plate wallpaper, and a tee shirt tiled ceiling add visual entertainment. A toilet seat tells you to wait to be seated while bras dangle from the ceilings in the loo. I wanted to like this place. I've been here a lot of times in the past, and it was one of my favorite once-in-a-while crab spots. But my last experience there made me swear it off forever, or at least until management changes, if that ever happens. I like the food just fine. I've never had a problem with it. But it needs to arrive within less than an hour of ordering it. Less than two hours would be an improvement on my last visit there. I'll concur with the other reviewers in that paying for water and refills is ridiculous in this day and age. We're already paying an exorbitant amount for seafood covered in salt. This would seem to be the kind of out of the way place that would have great local seafood. Looks, however, can be deceiving. As other reviews mentioned, the food (other than the crabs which I didn't order) was rubbery and just didn't taste fresh. The prices were also not cheap. We made reservations for 7pm for a party of 6. We were seated right away but they weren't using the COVID 19 requirements. Place was packed, no six ft separations, but they were using the mask. Food was brought out at different times, so some were just sitting there as others were eating, took a little over an hour to get the rest of the food, wasn't kept informed of the food status until the end, had to pay for water, no free refills on soft drinks(never seen that before) food was tasty but crabs were small and pricey $55 dollars a dozen. The shrimp were the size of popcorn shrimp and scallops and fish were very small portions for the cost, would rather pay a few more bucks for bigger portions. I've been here in the past but don't remember it being like this...probably won't be going back, better places to go to. read more

Best time to go to boondocks is in July cause they have all you can eat crabs for 24.99. The only reason why I didn't give them 5 stars is the service. We had a special family dinner and spent well over a 1,000 Plus a nice fat tip and the manager screaming at our kids talking about us out loud cussing the manager is a joke and completely incompetent. They bashed us and said horrible things to us and children when we had a large group there for a family meeting celebrating the place our grandmother loved as she was killed last year. The total disrespect was a all time low. Those people need to learn respect and how to treat people cause there food wasn't even good for what we paid. No wonder the reviews are not good. Went here recently with some co-workers to try out a new Smyrna restaurant. The great thing about this place is that, in-season, the seafood is all extraordinarily fresh. The unfortunate thing is that the primary trick in the chef's repertoire is "fried," which in my opinion tends to mask the savory flavor of fresh seafood. Their hush puppies (also fried) are delicious - a hard-to-find southern treat in these northern demesnes. The price is a bit higher than other local restaurants, but there are several menu items whose extraordinarily large portions justify that price. The selection of beers on tap was decidedly average; I do wish I had tried their signature "swamp water" drink. The ambiance was decidedly apropos for local Smyrna restaurant (the bathroom is bedecked with clothing items from a woman's boudoir), but certainly no complaints about cleanliness. All in all, I liked it well enough to consider trying it again, but I won't be a regular. read more

Finally decided to visit. We moved to the area 5+ years ago and just never got around to checking Boondocks out. Really glad we finally went. We like fried food so we enjoyed our meals. Our server was very friendly and made us feel very comfortable. The place was bright and clean and a little on the loud side. We don't mind loud and it actually made the experience a little more exciting. There was a birthday there tonight and I have never heard such loud singing. I was happy for the birthday girl/guy.
