I ordered the chicken & pork dumplings with carrot juice and a scallion juice. Make sure you check in to get free small hot milk tea with a purchase. Don't expect your food to come out right away. They take the time to make the dumplings. Enjoy your milk tea while you wait. Great milk tea. Really hot!! That hit the spot on a really cold day. The scallion pie- scallion and pepper was not bad. This is the place to go for dumplings in all of Bay Ridge. Located along 3rd Ave, at a corner, it stands out amongst a slew of eateries, banks, and grocery stores. Dumplings have accrued mass appeal across gender, ethnicity, race since every country has their own variation. Say what you will, these have often been perceived as a greasy and cheap food, Kathy has proven that this not need be the case. It can be made tasty, healthy, and good for you. If you're expecting cheap, go to chinatown. If you want healthy, you come here. Pay for quality, your tummy will thank you for it! I came here earlier in the evening when it's less busy. My gut tells me they do well during lunch, but that's a guess. I picked one of the lesser known items on the menu, like the pork/egg dumplings with the violet hue to it, thanks to the cabbage. It's boiled, yes, but packs flavor. I also tried the special pancakes, which is popular among Yelpers, and was pleasantly surprised. I did use duck sauce, an ingredient almost blasphemous to us Chinese, but I enjoyed it. Lastly, I had the scallion pie, which is thicker than the pancake variety, since I like my scallion goods with some heft. Included was a hot milk tea, for checking in and In the end, I was full. Normally, I have the appetite to scarf down a dozen and a half dumplings, but that's when i'm being a pig. Lately, I have been watching what I put into my body and this restaurant fits the bill well. Okay so either this was an incredibly off day, or maybe since covid they've dropped the ball hardcore, but I ordered 3 different dumplings, a soup, and milk tea here, and all of the food was incredibly BLAND. Nothing had any flavor whatsoever. It was as if people who didn't know how to cook were making the food. Wow what a great spot in Bay Ridge! Great variety of dumplings and drinks! Their juicy pork buns are not to be missed! I've had Joe's Shanghai, Nan Xiang dumpling house, Shanghai cafe and even dumplings from Shanghai and this is quite comparable. These are the biggest soup dumplings I've had in NYC. The soup is not as flavorful as Nan Xiang but still worth trying. While I waited for my food I noticed they take a while because they make it fresh from scratch!! I saw them pressing the dough in the little window by the menu. It's great to see that the food was made on the spot and not taken from the freezer. The juicy meat with steamed bun reminded me of the spicy lamb cumin burger from Xi'an Famous Foods. The bread and flavors are quite similar. It's about a dollar cheaper than Xi'an. You know one thing that I feel like Bay Ridge lacked when I first moved here was the amount of quality asian food. I saw this place while driving down 3rd avenue when I had to stop by to check it out. Like many have mentioned, it's definitely a take-out and delivery place more so than a sit in place (but they do have limited seating inside which is kind of a self-service deal). I have to start off by saying that the food tastes really clean and fresh. You could see when you order that in the back they are rolling the little dumplings once you order. Yes -- they're made to order! They have also a ton of other stuff on the menu that's worth checking out.. they have some pork/beef buns that almost kind of look like gyro's. Definitely worth trying, especially because they're so cheap! (I think 2 for $5)? Stumbled upon this restaurant through seamless so I decided to give this place a try because I was craving some dumplings. Ordered through seamless and the food came pretty quick. When I first opened the order, I was like 'why did they give me milk tea tapioca? I ordered the passion fruit bubble tea' because it looked like milk tea instead of orange looking. Took a sip and was like 'ohhhhh, this is good'; it was passion fruit flavored. The color of it threw me off but it was good. Maybe next time I'll get the passion fruit flavored tea with tapioca. The pan fried dumplings was pretty good, crispy and still warm. The steamed juicy pork bun (xiao long bao) was indeed juicy and they were pretty big. The chicken kebab was dry. It is SO worth the trip here! Definitely the best dumplings I've ever had, maybe the best bubble tea as well. I got the black milk bubble tea with tapioca. Had the perfect milk to tea ratio and right amount of sweetness. The fried pork dumplings were to die for. Tons of flavor with that nice crisp side. I also go the boiled chicken/pork dumplings which have their own wonderful flavor profile! The portions are good, one order of dumplings is definitely a meal and the price is excellent too. first time trying this place and it was so worth. im not from around here so i didnt know what my options were. so i went on yelp to help me find restaurants within the area. so kathy's dumplings was an option and checked out the reviews and pictures. i have to say that customer were very satisfied with their food. so then i decided this is where i was going to go for lunch. i get there and the menu is by far the best. i jus wanted to order everything lol. i go ahead and order the juicy pork buns (which i see people recommended and liked the most) arugula with pear salad and passion fruit bubble tea (another recommended item). so waited and got my food and i was speechless. it was so damn good i had no words. lol i would definitely COME BACK and try other items on the menu. i do RECOMMEND this place and thats of course if your a dumpling lover like me read more

This is my second time at Kathy's Dumplings within the last week! I think that pretty accurately shows how much of a great impression they made on me :) Service was awesome, I told them I wanted to try something different this time. I ordered special pancakes, based on a fellow Yelper's tip and they were so good! They were a little chewy maybe doughy, but I'm not complaining and they tasted great with a little dumpling sauce...which i now add to everything because it tastes so good. The guy at the counter recommended the Luffa Dumplings and Passion Fruit Bubble Tea. Yet again, dumplings were cooked perfectly: not too chewy and not too soft. The Bubble Tea was very good but a little too sweet for me, I'll stick to Taro next time. In my previous review, I said the dumplings were bland but after discussing with some friends who are dumpling lovers, they told me that veggie dumplings are supposed to be light not heavy. To be honest, I passed by this place hundreds of times and just assumed it's one of those fake Chinese take-out places. So my husband is from northern China and he's very particular about how certain dumplings and noodles should taste. So when we ordered take out from Kathy's, he was raving how their dumplings reminded him of his childhood. He says this place is super authentic. Ok I'll take his word for it but I do have to say I was pretty impressed with their dumplings and noodle soup as well. I've been here on three occasions. Each time was enjoyable and consistent which I can appreciate. The service is always friendly. I love good dumplings, especially pan fried pork. They take time to make your dumplings so it's not exactly grab and go, but it's worth the wait. By time I mean 10 minutes or so. Compared to other dumpling restaurants in Brooklyn i.e. the ones on 8th or 7th Ave in Sunset Park, the dumplings are fresh, juicy and the perfect portion. Surprised to see a dumpling place in Bay Ridge, so once I saw they were open I had to check it out. I had the hot and sour soup which was good! Reading the previous reviews, I think people are being a little harsh on Kathy's Dumplings. I like dumplings. I don't always like the way I feel after I eat dumplings. I have been here twice, and both times it was good. The staff is really nice, and the facility appears to be very clean. I liked the taro bubble tea and the pork and chicken dumplings. I can also recommend the pan fried dumplings. One thing that needs improvement is the juicy pork dumplings. They are a far cry from soup dumplings. Create a soup dumping with alot of soup like they have a Joe's"s Shanghai on Pell St. I will be back to Kathys, and I think this place will make it in the neighborhood. read more

I just finished my meal from here and here is what I ordered and thought: Steamed Beef Dumplings were very filling and had a great taste. They also Had beef broth in them and this made the beef very moist. I love Indian Pancakes but not from here. The pancake was very oily and the Chicken seemed to be seasoned with nutmeg.Where's the curry sauce as advertised in your menu?? I've been waiting for this place to open and finally got there today to sample their food. Judging from the amount of people walking in and out of this place I clearly wasn't the only one waiting to see what Kathy's had to offer. We ordered the traditional pan fried pork dumplings, pork juicy buns, beef pie and the #6,#7 and #8 boiled dumplings. I must say everything we had was delicious, the standouts would be the boiled dumplings which are packed with some interesting flavors. I would definitely recommend this place, there are a few tables here (6 seats) and a small bar around one side of the store. It is more of a "to go" place but if you find yourself looking to eat there it's it's very clean and nicely decorated. read more

I ordered two dumplings there, one with veggies and one with beef. Veggies were ok, ones with beef were pretty good. The dipping sauces they provide are good as well. Here's why they get 1 star. The cashier who handles money also packages food. With the same unclean hands she touched inside the container that will have food in it. As i was waiting for the order there was a cook taking a smoke break i guess, he went inside and since there's a window i could see him a split second later working with the dough. Did not even bother to wash his hands. Kathy's Dumplings is set up to be more of a take out/delivery rather than sit in place. There is seating available, but soups are brought out in to-go containers and dumplings on plastic plates. We were surprised at how clean the food tasted. That alone makes them stand out from other Chinese restaurants in the area. Everything was being made in the kitchen to order so it did take longer than what we're accustomed to... I thought that their dumplings tasted a little bland. I had to drown them in sauce to get a flavor I liked. The wonton soup was very good and I loved the scallion pancake. I was so full that I almost passed on the free milk tea you get from checking into yelp, but I'm glad I didn't -- it was a nice finish to our meal.
