A vegan Thai eatery! I had to try it out when I was in the mood for something on the healthier side. Pretty much all of your standard Thai entrees just with vegan/vegetarian protein options like tofu or tempeh, or you can also just do veggies. I ordered the tom kha soup and red curry both with medium spice. Both were really tasty! Portions were large too, I took home leftovers of both. Service was quick and friendly. I went for a late dinner so I was able to be seated right away but I imagine during peak times this place fills up quickly! read more

Super cute vegan Thai spot on Division! Staff is super friendly and helpful with the menu. We ordered the spicy fries and the curry puffs to start, def get the curry puffs if you're only getting one app. It yummy, not as saucy as I was expecting compared to other ones I've had before but the still good! The fries honestly just tasted like spicy curly fries with chili dipping sauce, not worth imo. For entrees, I had the drunken noodles and the pad kra prao. I was expecting the pad kra prao to be dry and spicy with rice, but it was very wet actually, and a bit too similar in flavor to the drunken noodles. The drunken noodles were great and both dishes has lots of veggies which I appreciated! Definitely worth a visit! And get an iced tea too! read more

I've gone here a few times now and always enjoy whatever I get! Most recently I got the eggplant stir fry on recommendation of a friend who always gets it and it did not disappoint! Their papaya salad was also outstanding and tangy. The coconut sago dessert was also so amazing and refreshing that I had to try to make my own after getting it! Looked up recs for vegetarian food in Portland and found Kati Thai! We went on a Tuesday around 4pm and it was not too crowded. The waitress was very friendly and gave recommendations for my friend who is gluten intolerant. We each got the Pad Se Ew with tofu (medium spice). Didn't get any drinks but they looked amazing in the pics! Pad See Ew (4/5): Generous portion size! Medium spice was somewhat spicy - I added a little bit of extra spice but I am glad I didn't go any higher. The dish tasted a little bitter but solid flavors overall. I really appreciate vegetarian restaurants like Kati Thai! Friendly customer service and nice ambiance. Giving a 4/5 mainly because of the bitter aftertaste in the Pad See Ew, but I would consider coming back if I'm ever back in Portland! read more

Kati is not only my favorite Thai restaurant in Portland, it's one of my favorite restaurants period. My visiting parents (omnivores) & I stopped by for lunch today & were treated to excellent food, swift, friendly service, & no one seemed to mind that everything is vegan unless you opt to include eggs in a few of the dishes. We had a stir fry vegan veggie dish that was excellent, perfectly crispy but cooked. The spice level just right. BUT- we found out afterward it had a preservative chemical in it. I was almost in tears when our waitress (and owner of the restaurant I think) said to us "Thank you for bringing your kids here. We like to serve families. We want you to feel like we're your family". For context, this is as my 1 year old son is causing all sorts of havoc (smearing noodles on the window, throwing forks and spoons on the ground, etc). The waitress had brought some plastic to go containers and plastic utensils for our kids to play with. It was such a beautiful gesture and it took so much pressure off my wife and I to enjoy our meal. Most of the time eating out with the kids, we're constantly stressing about cleaning up after them and making sure they don't get into any trouble. Having this waitress to tell us to relax and enjoy our meal...I've never experienced such a thoughtful moment in my history of dining. "I get it, I had little kids once," she said. Not only was the ambiance like going to your cool aunt's house for dinner, the food was as phenomenal as you'd expect from a home cooked meal. The "Thai Sweet Chili Tots" and "Nam Ka Tod" are absolute must orders. Packed and bursting with flavor in every bite, I would honestly come here just to load up on these again. The "Tom Kha" soup was delectably rich with coconut cream flavor. Definitely the way to go if you can't handle the heat or if you just want something decadent to start off with. The "Gang Dang" red curry will have you literally saying DANG with the immensely creamy and hearty flavors. I love the inclusion of pumpkin in the dish. The Drunken Noodles were solid, though I wasn't a fan of the tempeh. Love the vegan option but something about its texture threw me off. Last but certainly not least, you MUST get the "pandan mango sticky rice". The warmed rice paired with the cool, sweet mango sends your senses on a fantastic trip. Topped with cool coconut cream and sesame seeds, this is one of the more unique and ultimately most satisfying treats Portland has to offer. Kati rightfully earns its spot as a top Thai destination in PDX, and I was unsurprised to learn it's even been recognized by Thailand itself for its outstanding work. Today was only my second time going to Kati Thai, and this is literally become my favorite Thai place! Kati serves up delicious, authentic Thai food that's sure to satisfy any craving. Located off of SE Division, the restaurant space is on the smaller side, but is vibrant, lively, and homey. We got the pineapple fried rice with tofu and pad thai with tofu. The flavors were off the charts--so much depth with the perfect kick. While I usually opt for chicken as the protein in my Thai dishes, the tofu was a great substitute. I recommend ordering a few different dishes and sharing them family style. The very first time I went I was kind of skeptical. Vegetarian Pad Thai? How does that work without fish sauce? Well, amazingly, it turns out. Probably my favorite Pad Thai in Portland these days, though you can't go wrong with anything else either. They offer regular (cow milk) and vegan (coconut milk) Thai tea, and once again I was shocked that the vegan one tastes even better! Friendly service and a fun atmosphere. The dipping sauce they use for their curly fries is also amazing if you're considering appetizers. Whether you're a vegetarian or normally eat meat, this is some of the best Thai in the city. Loved the crispy rice with lettuce leaf appetizer, will order as an entree next time. Pad See Ew is my Thai restaurant goto, but was luke-warm on it here. For one, the sauce (and salt) was too overpowering. For dessert, the mango was underripe, but the pandan rice and sauce were delicious. A pleasant surprise was the "house" blend hot tea, so good. The place is small so it was somewhat cluttered; the area behind the well-stocked bar was messy. Female bartender was very nice. Prices and portions were fair. I really enjoyed this place. Came on Sunday afternoon and sat outside, ordered the +21 Thai tea which was deliciously creamy, the spicy margarita (which BTW is incredibly spicy so beware!), the curry puffs and pad se ew. The curry puffs had a delectable puff pastry on the outside and the cucumber salad to go with it was a great contrast in flavors. The pad se ew was perfectly saucy (which I find most places lack in) and I loved the added egg option, it soaked up the sauce nicely. They only have no spice, medium or hot and I personally found the medium very spicy so just take caution if you are spice averse. I still enjoyed it despite the fire in my mouth - that says a lot! read more

This was my first time at Kati and I can see why it is a Division favorite. The restaurant is on the small side but we did not have to wait for a table despite being a Friday night. Lots of people seem to order takeout but there was a good share of people eating in restaurant and even on the benches outside. I shared the panang curry with the fried tofu and thought it was deliciously creamy and flavorful. Our other friend got the pad see yew which runs on the sweeter side. The coco pandan was my favorite drink out of the 3 that we ordered but I did enjoy the creativity of each drink they had on the cocktail menu. Will be eating here again, such a nice dinner spot and perfect for getting drinks nearby afterwards as well. read more

Who says vegetarian can't be delicious! You totally don't miss meat here. We got crispy rice, tom kha soup , drunken noodles and pineapple curry. Everything was full of flavor. For most dishes, you can order with no spice, medium or high spice level. The medium on the drunken noodles was a little too much. Everything else was great. If you'd rather choose 'no spice', you can ask for chili oil to spice up your dishes as needed. There are just about 7-8 tables in the small dining area, so reservations are highly recommended. There was a QR code on the table to order your food straight from the phone and pay (including tip) before eating. So, service is a bare minimum. But they still went out of their way to help when needed. Came to check if we would like printed menus (even though updated prices were only on the app :D) and came to double bag our leftovers because we had a lot :D). Kati Portland used to be my favorite spot to get Thai, but after my recent visits, I'm not sure it can hold that title anymore. They still have some good chef specials, but some of the noodle dishes and even the red curry were not as good as my new favorite Thai place, PDX Thai Dining. The service was decent, but the ordering from the QR code had some issues and the dishes came out at very different times. The ambiance is good, it's always buzzing with customers and has a nice charm to it. I tried three different dishes, see my breakdown below: 5/5 - Tao Hoo Wahn: crispy tofu in a sweet & tangy sauce. Topped with crispy shallots, served with garlic yellow noodles, steamed broccoli & carrots. This was the best dish by far! A really good balance of sweet and tangy flavors, delicious noodles, and the best tofu! 4/5 - Gang Dang (Red Curry): coconut milk red curry with green bean, pumpkin, bamboo strips, carrots, Thai eggplant, red & green bell peppers, plus sweet basil. This was a solid tasting curry, but just missed the mark on vegetables and texture compared with well made Thai curries. 3/5 - Drunken Noodles: stir fried wide rice noodles with baby corn, yellow onions, green onions, red & green bell peppers, tomatoes, carrots, shiitake Mushrooms, and thai basil in a house garlic soy sauce. Chain location to the one in Seattle serving similar food but in a more casual environment and lower prices. Overall the food was decent without the weird medicinal herb found in the other location. The salad and appetizer was excellent but the rice and stir fry were a bit greasy and lacked full flavor. Overall decent quality and I would recommend staying away from the greasy items. Parking is a big challenge and be warned not to leave anything in the car as we saw someone's car window get smashed and it was located right on the main street. read more

I used to like Kati's food. But after giving it 3 tries in recent months, I decided not to come back again. Their owner should really give a regular quality check of their chef and food. (Advice from a professional chef over 10 years of experience.) Kati's fried rice and noodles dishes used to have nice wok flavor, but I have repeatedly getting food that has no wok flavor (which is a must for any good Thai food!) with over sauced, salty dishes that has no depth of flavors. I am disappointed that this used to be my favorite Thai vegan restaurant. Now I won't be back again after giving them 3 tried and experienced the same food that I couldn't finish because they are just some fried rice and noodles dishes with lots saltiness and no flavors and expensive! 49th birthday dinner. This was a treat from my aunt, a vegetarian (like me), and sister and brother in law (both omnivores). For a Thursday night, it was packed. We sat outside‐ weather was pleasant. Brother in law took all the orders on his phone. Food came quickly. There was green curry, a Singapore noodle dish, a stir fry with soy curls, a couple of tempeh dishes. I can't remember ‐ I had just finished a day 10 miles wandering the Grotto and getting lost on a hike up Multnomah Falls. But everything was delicious. Brother in law ordered spicy. He's from Minnesota because apparently hiking, fishing, and meandering in frozen lakes builds up your heat tolerance. My sister, aunt, and I took our dishes medium, which we all viewed as spicy. For dessert, I ordered a vegan iced tea tobgo‐ which my sister and aunt took generous gulp sized sips. I can't complain they bought dinner. Really excited to try Kati Portland. But I was a little let-down. Inside gives off wonderful earthly vibes. Tables have QR codes, you order your own food and then it's brought to your table. Started with Nam Khao Tod (signature) - crispy rice dish. Silly me, for some reason I expected it to be a warm dish however, it's a cold one. It did have great flavor, even though it doesn't come with a sauce, you can taste the chili lime sauce that it's prepared with. I must say I do not like iceberg lettuce, but the iceberg here is something phenomenal. It was SO fresh and crisp, I couldn't stop eating it. For the rice itself, I was not overly impressed, because it was so crispy it stuck in my teeth (yeah, not enjoyable). The Gang Keow Wahn (green curry) was a very thin curry and super sweet. I ordered it medium but it had "0" spiciness. The veggies were very fresh and still had a bite to them, which I very much appreciate. I did enjoy the addition of pumpkin in the green curry, most places don't offer this in standard green curry. Overall, very disappointed with consistency and lack of spice. Not overly attentive staff. I'm glad I gave it a try, but it's not on my must return list. read more

Service is alright here. You can also buy their Thai pastes to cook at home. The chives pancakes are nice and crispy. The basil tofu was good but a little lacking in flavor. The fries were good but I prefer a different sauce. The pad Thai was good but I chose to add tempeh and it was like dry and stale tasting so I ate around it. The last dish is a tempeh stir fry thingy that came out crusty unlike the pad Thai. The best was the mango sticky rice: they use pandas sticky rice and it just made the dish way better. Overall it is okay. Not sure why they're so hyped up online from what l had read and chose to come bc of it.! read more
