Katie is a nice little spot in Guthrie to get a good home cooked feeling in a nice small atmosphere. The dining area isn't very big and can get busy quick, so know when to come and when not too. I ordered the steak and mashed potatoes last time I was here. Came with a salad and two slices of bread as well. Like I said, don't expect 5 star quality, bc that's not what this is about. I happened to be in Guthrie this morning and stopped in for breakfast. The food and service were perfect. My eggs were perfectly scrambled, light and fluffy, as well as properly seasoned. The sausage was properly cooked-done all the way through yet still juicy- and even the toast was beautifully golden brown. My server was pleasant, attentive, and on the spot with coffee refills. We were in Guthrie and hungry while doing some antique shopping. Sought the help of Yelp and were let to Katie's Diner due to it's close proximity and great reviews. We went in and the place was jam-packed, a good sign for a diner. We were able to find a small table and were excited for the delicious smelling foods. It took a while for our server to get to us, which was only a problem because our table had not been bussed. After the delay, I ordered the scrambler. Two biscuits, loaded with choice of meat, scrambled eggs, and covered in sausage gravy. When the food came, the portions were huge! And anyone who knows me, knows I'm fine with that! We dove in to the fantastic looking food, and with the first bite...mild disappointment. The gravy was not homemade and sure tasted like it was from a packet. And there was very little bacon on my entree and my girlfriend said the same of hers. So compared to the wonderful look of our meals, the taste was a little lacking. That said, the biscuit was wonderful! I don't want my review to seem negative because overall Katie's was good, it just could have been so much more. I'd rate this place much higher if it wasn't for the cockroach and the bathroom smelling like an outhouse. The only reasons I give it 3 stars, is because besides all of that, service was fast and friendly and caring even with the bug problem. Super apologetic for the problem. Although the outside is humble and the interior décor is on the chintzy side, this establishment serves good, old-fashioned American comfort food that packs the house. Their menu is limited, and it comes with no frills, but it is tasty and filling. I had one of the best Chicken Fried Steaks I've ever enjoyed and my grandson loved his Fried Eggs. They are open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, and they serve breakfast during both meal times. Diner that HITS the marks!!! I was hungry and wanted good old fashion American food! I went with the Ham, Eggs, and cheese melt which was divine with my side of mashed potatoes and gravy!!! It really hit the spot. The service was great too! Lots of personality! I did not try their famous Crack Pie (butterscotch type of pie), but I did go for the Chocolate and loved it!!! All of it is subtly flavored to perfection to make it the BEST Chicken Fried Steak I have had. My husband had it as a sandwhich and I had the dinner. Both were great because the Chicken Fry was so good. The sides were a good compliment. Homemade mashed potatoes with more of the delicious gravy and Fried okra. My husband had crispy tater tots with his. Even though we were full, my husband ordered the Strawberry Shortcake, which was both waitresses favorite, and it was a wonderful finish to our yummy lunch. This is true Oklahoma home cooking! This is one of my Dad's favorite places to eat and so I on our last day here he took us all out for breakfast. While we waited for our table amidst the duck hunters and cowboys (I told you, it is true Oklahoma) we realized a table for 7 was not gonna happen in this quaint but crowded, one room popular restaurant. Though people seemed more than willing to wait for the breakfast all day. My sister and I both got the make your own breakfast of hashbrowns, eggs, 4 crispy slices of bacon with a fluffy biscuit and saucer of gravy on the side. Yummy in my Sooner tummy. My husband enjoyed his spinach omelette, though we all agreed a little more seasoning couldn't hurt in the cooking. The waitress was quick on her feet with Southern hospitality and coffee. We come here every weekend. Usually on Sunday afternoon when it's really busy! We usually wait for a couple mins for a seat to open. It is a true hole in the wall place... but it is a gem! The customer service is amazing and the food is like no other. The eggs are real and the bacon is crisp! The biscuits and gravy is yum and the coffee is strong and steaming fresh!
