I went there first thing on a Saturday morning after stepping on my glasses which were a very complex brand. The optician was able to fix my glasses and actually made them fit better, and she also refused any payment because she didn't want to guarantee that she would fix them. I renewed my contact prescription a week before getting married and used up my trial lenses quickly. My husband and I left for a spontaneous trip to Honolulu the day after our wedding, and I realized after booking a snorkeling excursion that the experience would probably be more enjoyable if I didn't have to worry about losing my only glasses in the Pacific Ocean. I called Kato & Shoji Optometrists as soon as the office opened and was greeted by a very pleasant and helpful staff person. I asked if they had trail contacts for sale, and was advised to email my prescription over to ensure they had the right lenses in stock. A few minutes after sending the email, I received a callback and was invited to pick up my new lenses from the office. It was all so simple! Lost my glasses to the Pacific Ocean on my trip but hadn't bothered to pack contacts... I was able to get my prescription emailed to me and started calling around, but the prescription I have is relatively strong and no one seemed to have any in stock. When I called this office, Deanna asked me to email her the prescription and said she'd look into it. I didn't really know what to expect and kept calling around with no luck. I was in town on vacation and had prescription glasses emergency. Lens popped and was in need of repair. I called them to see if they can repair them and I was advised to stop in. It was Saturday and they were open until noon. When we walked in, staff at the front desk recognize our earlier phone conversation immediately and took glasses to the back to work on them. I think it was less than 5 minutes before she came back with repaired glasses and it was perfect! I offered to pay for their service but when they learned we are just visiting, they said don't worry about payment and have a great day. Is this Aloha spirit? Or are they just nice like that? Thank you for repairing prescription glasses as we didn't have a spare. Much needed rescue and we really appreciate your kindness. If you are in need of eye doctor, I highly recommend here. Contacted them for eye care services two - three weeks ago. There has been no response whatsoever. If they cant get back to potential patients then how can you trust them to take care of you when you're there. Ill try another facility. This is really bad customer service. read more

My dumbbutt forgot to pack my contact lens while visitin Oahu!!! I was exhausted after a 6 am flight and unable to check into our hotel until 3 or 4pm. I realized I didn't have my contacts with me so I quickly yelped for an optometrist could help me ASAP. I came at 1pm but they were on their lunch. I was a little grumpy that they made me leave and come back, and I think I showed that (sorry!!), but when I came back an hour later they were able to assist me. Not sure if it was Dr Kato or Shoji that helped me but he was able to give me a pair of contacts that would last my whole trip. It wasn't the exact prescription as they didn't have any in the office but I'm still so greatful. He also gave me a travel size clean and clear solution !!! So generous. I traveled here with a large group for my significant others birthday. Planning is hard as it is but as an empath it's even worst! When I found out my friend forgot ALL of his contacts at home and didn't bring his glasses on our SECOND DAY out of a week my heart dropped. RIP OFF BEWARE These people are Very dishonest they overcharge me for my lenses and frames and on top of that they messed up my prescription lenses. I had to go back three separate times for them to order new lenses because they kept getting my prescription lenses wrong. And they were very rude about it. They not once apologized for their mistake. Because they order their lenses from a mainland company it took me eight weeks to finally get the correct lenses. They told me they would not pay for the expedited shipping charges to get The correct lenses here earlier. But they said I was could Pay for the additional shipping charges if I needed the lenses earlier. read more

Meh. Reception is super nice and they are all pretty courteous, but as one other reviewer mentioned, he takes your contacts out. And puts them in your eyes. This is extremely strange, as I have been doing this for over 30yrs myself, no need for additional assistance, thank you though. This review is more for their amazing customer service for clients who are not routinely in their care. I traveled from LA and of course forgot my contact lenses. I had my optometrist fax over a prescription and asked to buy a few days worth of contacts. They offered me trails for free and even followed up with a phone call to see when I would be picking them up. They were so nice and courteous, even when I tried to pay something they refused to accept. Good to be able to acknowledge thoughtful, and genuine optometry offices out there. read more

Not really a whole lot to say about this place since I'm the type of customer that likes to streamline the process; I already had my prescription, already knew my eye care benefits, etc. So there wasn't much in the way of service I needed. Just went and picked out some glasses, filled out a form,paid, and will come back when they're ready. The longest part was just picking out the frames I wanted. I just took a star off because A) Their selection of glasses isn't the most extensive and B) The workers there were pleasant enough with getting my information and whatnot but in terms of actually picking out glasses, there was no effort on their part to just be friendly and maybe ask me what I was looking for or maybe make some recommendations. Since I was the only customer there at the time the store was literally silent as I just walked back and forth picking out frames and checking a mirror and it would have been nice as I was taking frames on and off for like 15 minutes to have someone make nice conversation. read more

I was in dire need of replacement contacts when traveling to Hawaii, staying in Waikiki. I called this optometrist office when they opened at 9am, was able to email my contact Rx to their office so they could check their supply of on-hand contacts, and within 30 minutes of my initial call, I was able to pick up a spare set of contacts at no cost. Very professional but at the same time a very local feel. For me it's like going to my family's house if that makes sense. I did not have a good experience here. I went in for an eye exam, and I can't remember which doctor I saw, but he had the worst "bedside manner" I've ever experienced. He walked in and after a quick greeting proceeded to try to stick his hands in my eyes to pull out my contacts without even giving me any warning! Not to mention I had not seen him wash his hands, gross (this was pre-COVID). I've been going to optometrists for 15+ years and I have never experienced something like this, the doctor has always asked me to take my own contacts out.
