Dr. Kato adjusted my new glasses to the proper height, the nose pads were too high so my far distance vision was blurry after the adjustments I could see the far distance view clearly! Thank you dr. Kato. read more

I went there first thing on a Saturday morning after stepping on my glasses which were a very complex brand. The optician was able to fix my glasses and actually made them fit better, and she also refused any payment because she didn't want to guarantee that she would fix them. They are an amazing and incredibly professional group. Highly recommended. read more

Excellent and quick service! I needed replacement RGP contact lenses quickly and Dr. Kato's office was the only place that was able to fit me in for an eye exam (for a new prescription) and get me new RGP lenses quickly--all within half-a-week. Dr. Kato and his staff were all amazing! Highly recommend! read more

I was stranded without contact lenses on my vacation to Waikiki Beach. Kati & Shoji were INCREDIBLY accommodating and helped me out in just a few hours. They were incredibly responsive and helpful. HIGHLY recommend. read more

Highly recommended! Nicest experience and super professional service here. It's our first day on the island and we forgot contact lenses at home, the staff gave us free samples and helped us like we are paying customers. Customers here look very happy and well attended to. Would definitely come back for any optometry need. read more

Extremely disappointed with care received from Dr. Shoji, who after two visits still did not provide an accurate prescription for progressive eyeglasses. Foolish me thought certificates on room walls meant I could entrust that provider would apply correct tests and ask appropriate questions for my needs. read more

Gracious courteous and amazing! They were able to accommodate me with my appointment(I chose the first available). They were understanding with my contact request and assisted with frame selection as well. Extremely professional and will be going back annually. read more

Kato & Shoji Optometrists - Waiting area, front desk, and frames options - Optometrists Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

My review is for the Receptionists who were absolutely wonderful when I went into their office today. I had a bleed in my eye and since their Optician wasn't the right person to help, they sent me to another surgery, and called first to get me an appointment. They were so kind and helpful! Thankyou, ladies! read more

I renewed my contact prescription a week before getting married and used up my trial lenses quickly. My husband and I left for a spontaneous trip to Honolulu the day after our wedding, and I realized after booking a snorkeling excursion that the experience would probably be more enjoyable if I didn't have to worry about losing my only glasses in the Pacific Ocean. I called Kato & Shoji Optometrists as soon as the office opened and was greeted by a very pleasant and helpful staff person. I asked if they had trail contacts for sale, and was advised to email my prescription over to ensure they had the right lenses in stock. A few minutes after sending the email, I received a callback and was invited to pick up my new lenses from the office. It was all so simple! Thank you to the Kato & Shoji team for being so kind and accommodating. I have already referred all my friends and family on the island to this office. I am incredibly grateful! read more

Lost my glasses to the Pacific Ocean on my trip but hadn't bothered to pack contacts... I was able to get my prescription emailed to me and started calling around, but the prescription I have is relatively strong and no one seemed to have any in stock. When I called this office, Deanna asked me to email her the prescription and said she'd look into it. I didn't really know what to expect and kept calling around with no luck. Dee actually emailed me back quickly and was able to help me out on super short notice. Super awesome and welcoming office when I showed up too! read more

I was in town on vacation and had prescription glasses emergency. Lens popped and was in need of repair. I called them to see if they can repair them and I was advised to stop in. It was Saturday and they were open until noon. When we walked in, staff at the front desk recognize our earlier phone conversation immediately and took glasses to the back to work on them. I think it was less than 5 minutes before she came back with repaired glasses and it was perfect! I offered to pay for their service but when they learned we are just visiting, they said don't worry about payment and have a great day. Is this Aloha spirit? Or are they just nice like that? Thank you for repairing prescription glasses as we didn't have a spare. Much needed rescue and we really appreciate your kindness. If you are in need of eye doctor, I highly recommend here. Staff here is very nice and friendly. You will be in good hands for your eye care needs. read more

Contacted them for eye care services two - three weeks ago. There has been no response whatsoever. If they cant get back to potential patients then how can you trust them to take care of you when you're there. Ill try another facility. This is really bad customer service. read more

My dumbbutt forgot to pack my contact lens while visitin Oahu!!! I was exhausted after a 6 am flight and unable to check into our hotel until 3 or 4pm. I realized I didn't have my contacts with me so I quickly yelped for an optometrist could help me ASAP. I came at 1pm but they were on their lunch. I was a little grumpy that they made me leave and come back, and I think I showed that (sorry!!), but when I came back an hour later they were able to assist me. Not sure if it was Dr Kato or Shoji that helped me but he was able to give me a pair of contacts that would last my whole trip. It wasn't the exact prescription as they didn't have any in the office but I'm still so greatful. He also gave me a travel size clean and clear solution !!! So generous. Thank you !!!!!!!!! read more

I traveled here with a large group for my significant others birthday. Planning is hard as it is but as an empath it's even worst! When I found out my friend forgot ALL of his contacts at home and didn't bring his glasses on our SECOND DAY out of a week my heart dropped. He called this place and they were more than accommodating. They really pulled thru same day and now my friend can enjoy the rest of his vacation (+ can drive us now). Mahalo! read more

RIP OFF BEWARE These people are Very dishonest they overcharge me for my lenses and frames and on top of that they messed up my prescription lenses. I had to go back three separate times for them to order new lenses because they kept getting my prescription lenses wrong. And they were very rude about it. They not once apologized for their mistake. Because they order their lenses from a mainland company it took me eight weeks to finally get the correct lenses. They told me they would not pay for the expedited shipping charges to get The correct lenses here earlier. But they said I was could Pay for the additional shipping charges if I needed the lenses earlier. read more

Meh. Reception is super nice and they are all pretty courteous, but as one other reviewer mentioned, he takes your contacts out. And puts them in your eyes. This is extremely strange, as I have been doing this for over 30yrs myself, no need for additional assistance, thank you though. As well, even with insurance I'm still paying over 200$?? 2nd and last time here. read more

My husband forgot his contacts at home while on vacation and Kato & Shoji was extremely helpful getting some contacts. Great service! Thanks for coming to the rescue! read more

This review is more for their amazing customer service for clients who are not routinely in their care. I traveled from LA and of course forgot my contact lenses. I had my optometrist fax over a prescription and asked to buy a few days worth of contacts. They offered me trails for free and even followed up with a phone call to see when I would be picking them up. They were so nice and courteous, even when I tried to pay something they refused to accept. Good to be able to acknowledge thoughtful, and genuine optometry offices out there. read more

Ariel and Cassie saved my butt!! I had just landed in Honolulu and realized I had forgotten my contact lenses. They were the first optometrist I could find, and boy howdy, was it a lucky coincidence! I walked in and all it took was a quick phone call to my optometrist back home in Canada, and a couple minutes later I walked out with a pair of contacts, a case, and a small bottle of solution... free of charge!! Great people and great service! read more

Not really a whole lot to say about this place since I'm the type of customer that likes to streamline the process; I already had my prescription, already knew my eye care benefits, etc. So there wasn't much in the way of service I needed. Just went and picked out some glasses, filled out a form, paid, and will come back when they're ready. The longest part was just picking out the frames I wanted. I just took a star off because A) Their selection of glasses isn't the most extensive and B) The workers there were pleasant enough with getting my information and whatnot but in terms of actually picking out glasses, there was no effort on their part to just be friendly and maybe ask me what I was looking for or maybe make some recommendations. Since I was the only customer there at the time the store was literally silent as I just walked back and forth picking out frames and checking a mirror and it would have been nice as I was taking frames on and off for like 15 minutes to have someone make nice conversation. read more

I was in dire need of replacement contacts when traveling to Hawaii, staying in Waikiki. I called this optometrist office when they opened at 9am, was able to email my contact Rx to their office so they could check their supply of on-hand contacts, and within 30 minutes of my initial call, I was able to pick up a spare set of contacts at no cost. They are truly lifesavers. Thank you to Deanna, Caryn, and Lee Ann at the office for their assistance and Aloha spirit. Mahalo to the Kato & Shoji Optometrist office!! read more

Very professional but at the same time a very local feel. For me it's like going to my family's house if that makes sense. Despite feeling nervous about what I've done to myself health wise, Dr Shoji made me feel really at ease talking story while filling me in on his findings. The staff are helpful and friendly too! Dr Kato is fantastic! Corrected my prescription so now I can actually see with just contact lenses (formerly needed reading glasses over them). Professional, efficient, and knowledgable. The team at the front desk are all helpful. Happy with my new glasses and contacts. 100% recommended. read more

I stopped in for a quick visit and all the staff is so helpful and friendly! Thank you especially to Cassie for providing exceptional service read more

I did not have a good experience here. I went in for an eye exam, and I can't remember which doctor I saw, but he had the worst "bedside manner" I've ever experienced. He walked in and after a quick greeting proceeded to try to stick his hands in my eyes to pull out my contacts without even giving me any warning! Not to mention I had not seen him wash his hands, gross (this was pre-COVID). I've been going to optometrists for 15+ years and I have never experienced something like this, the doctor has always asked me to take my own contacts out. The front desk staff were nice, but I am not coming back here. read more

Just want to express my gratitude to this nice office and the service provided. The office is neat and comfortable, and all staff are friendly and professional. I am most impressed with Dr. Kato. I moved from Hawaii 1.5 years from California, while I had good doctors there, I felt Dr. Kato is the most conscientious doctor I have ever met! His attention to details is incredible and his skill and professionalism are superb. I just respect Dr. Kato so much. I have not had a chance to meet Dr. Shoji, but I am sure he is good too!
