Interior is a bit kitschy, but to each his own. In almost 4 decades of eating here I can only remember a single bad meal (the money for which was promptly refunded). Menu items are a bit pricey but you get lotsa food for your money. One of the few restaurants in the AV where, if you order WELL DONE hash browns, they are served well done ALL THE WAY THROUGH without being burned (or, as is the case with too many AV restaurants, burned on one side and almost raw on the other). read more

This was a cute little 50's diner that takes you back in time. The decor had lots of Pictures and records on the walls, I love Lucy on the black and white tv and a jute box, plenty of seating and oldies played in the background. This is good solid food, nothing spectacular but just good solid food. I had the mexican scramble. It comes with sausage, bell peppers, onions, 2 kinds of cheese and jalapenos if you want them. It was a lot of food, come hungry or plan on taking some home like I did. I had it with hash browns that had a good crisp to them and a great flavor. All in all this is a good place for breakfast. This place is stick-to-your-ribs, down-home, big-portion, kitchy goodness! I LOVE IT! I had driven past this place many times and considered going in, but it looked a little dinky and I wasn't sure. Couldn't commit. Should've committed sooner. You really do need to treat yourself to breakfast at this local hole. Yes, it is small. Yes, it is broken-in (read: not squeaky clean). Yes, it is greasy and you'll probably end up gaining a few pounds. But dammit, it is so incredibly worth it. I should probably tell you now, though, that I've only ever indulged in the breakfast menu. Hubby has had their lunchy items and they were decent (the fries do need some work, actually), but breakfast is where their talents lie. As you may have read from my other reviews, my heart melts for biscuits and gravy. Katz N' Jammers (named after a vintage cartoon, BTW), is hands down my favorite in the valley. The biscuit is just slightly salty and the gravy is thick and creamy and simply lickable (hey, stop reading that in a dirty way! Perv. ;) ). My favorite entree to go with the heavenly b&g is the Katz Omelette which is a meat-and-cheese filled omelette that is doused with country gravy. So. Effing. Satisfying. You also get your choice of taters. If you come here often, you'll see the same couple of waitresses working their butts off to service the whole restaurant, which maybe holds about 7 booths and 6 tables. But really, the point of this post is to get you to go and experience this gem. Get taken aback by all of the 50's decorations on the wall. Gander at the bar with the soda fountain set-up and a black and white TV on a loop of old cartoons. Enjoy the "locals" feel of this place. They accept cards. Parking is on the street. Cute little diner off Lancaster blvd. which is perfect, I always thought the blvd. needed a diner and I completely forgot about this place. But it's there... Anyhow it's an awesome little spot, I felt like I was walking into the middle of 1955, I LOVED the retro vibe that place had. The music, the memorabilia, and they even have a retro black and white television with retro television shows playing while they're open. That's awesome. On their menu, some of the items are named after famous people from the 40's and 50's eras, so that was neat too. The food was good, I had the Elvis "All Shook Up" (hehe) omelette, w/o the diced ham and it was tasty. My brother had the chicken tenders and those were good as well. I've had better hash browns elsewhere, but that's not keeping me from coming back. They're menu is NOT vegetarian (even less vegan) friendly, but you can omit meat from any dish is you like. Prices are a little high, but for the experience I feel that they are fair. They have a lot of drink options, so I think I'll try a malt next time I pop in. The AV needs more spots like this one. As far as decor goes, this place is cool. But in regards to the food, there's nothing particularly special about it. The food came quick and our server was friendly. I tend to like my food pretty warm, Actually I prefer hot, but my plate was hardly warm. The biscuits and gravy were just plain cold. I wasn't a fan of the biscuits because they were dry and crumbly. I prefer them dense and moist. And The gravy was on the watery side. Also, for the prices it should have left a better impression. I'll definitely be going back to give it another try, it might have just been an off day. I hope so! read more

I really like this place. One of the best things about it is that when we dropped in for mid-morning breakfast, we found that they would serve us the lunch menu. Love lunch at breakfast :) Anyway, I had the chili size and we shared a plate of wonderful onion rings which were crisp, crunchy, and you know what I mean when I say the onion stayed "in" when bit into. I love their breakfast menu big portions and the service was great . They we're super nice and very accommodating ! And you really are taken back in time to a old school diner I love it . A wonderfully nostalgic diner in the heart of the AV, nestled in Lancaster Blvd. that gives the feel of some of the well known eating establishments of 50s era Hollywood/TV staples such as Grease and Happy Days!!! The entire staff was very warm and welcoming. The servings were generous and did not disappoint! I highly recommend the Big Bopper. If there room for dessert help yourself to a delicious milkshake.
