Came here on a Sunday for breakfast. We arrived around 9:50 AM and were seated within about 5 minutes, which was great. Unfortunately, the service after that was very disappointing. It took about 30 minutes for someone to take our order, and our food didn't arrive until 11:20 AM. What made it more frustrating was that a group of six who were seated at the same time as us received their food much earlier and were already finished eating before we even got ours. During the wait, I also ordered a coffee that never came -- it seemed like it was simply forgotten. What a nice tea shop! You can buy loose leaf tea or drinks and I got both! There's plenty of seating inside and they have a lot of cute local art on the walls which I loved. The Jackfruit Burrito at Modern Tearoom intrigued me since eating Coco Jack at Spoon & Pork which is Jackfruit braised in coconut milk. So I even called ahead and talked Annabelle into reserving me a Jackfruit Burrito because it would be disappointing to drive from L.A. all the way to Lancaster to find it was sold out. The clean, contemporary interior is functional bordering on shabby chic. The space is casual, relaxing, quiet enough for a convivial conversation. The staff is pleasant and unobtrusively friendly. 1) The Jackfruit Burrito is huge. Each half can feed 1 person for lunch. Well constructed, tightly & precisely wrapped to the point the wheat based wrap is as taut as a Marine's bunk bed cover. The filling has Jackfruit that has a meaty, fibrous, pot roast like texture. Brown rice, frijoles negros/black beans, red bell pepper, Pico de Gallo of tomato, cilantro, green chiles, onion dressed with cilantro vegan ranch dressing. Side of Sonia's avocado salsa. It is very strong and complexly seasoned with what may be cumin, coriander, oregano, thyme. It has a Za'atar spice mix feel that has a dried, earthy, green herbal flavour and has a long finish in the mouth as well as burping up some of those flavours later. Totally vegan in concept. 2) Sencha, a Japanese green tea on ice was refreshing, astringent, thirst quenching and was a good foil to the heavy, strong spiced Burrito. I'm impressed that Modern Tearoom has a great number of teas and infusions. I like the airy, light atmosphere. It's a place to find alternate food and drink realities that stray away from just standard American fare. 4 stars PS MOAH is right across the street so it's convenient for a pre or post museum nosh. read more

Im a local and had no clue this place exists. My new go to for everything tea. Variety of drinks hot or cold various blends, fruity etc. Looking for Vegan or not so vegan dishes. This is the place. Tried the not so vegan avocado toast delicious with a sprinkle of bacon and queso fresco oh so yummy. Definitely will return. I came to the modern tea room a day before Valentine's Day, which is my anniversary and my wife's suggested this restaurant cause I really like breakfast and she likes breakfast too. We got their right when they opened or almost when they open. It was not busy and it's on the boulevard in Lancaster. It's a nice looking restaurant café. The server was very nice. It was a really nice atmosphere. We looked at the menu and they had cinnamon roll or cinnamon flavored pancake or something like that and I love pancakes and my wife got an oatmeal and I got an orange juice which I did not get to finish because it tasted funny. It might've been my toothpaste, but I doubt it. It was a really nice meal. I would have to say I would need to explore more of their menu but so far breakfast was an eight out of 10 and I'm excited about coming back to try the rest vegetarian and vegan and meat dishes. read more

Only got drinks but they were very good. Got hot Moroccan mint tea and hot white rose tea. Mint was very flavorful but careful very hot! Rose tea had a good mix of floral flavors, wish it was a not more rosy but the other flowers came through more. I decided to order online for convenience purposes. It was very easy to order from their website. Right as I parked, I got a notification that my order was ready. Here's what I ordered: -An iced Black Thai tea -An iced Coconut Chai Dream, with half & half, half sweet -Avocado Toast (for my friend) -Cubano sandwich with cucumber salad -Lemon Coconut Cake When I walked in to pick up my order, I noticed how busy they were. Everyone was enjoying their food, having conversations, and just brunching it up. Very nice vibe. The staff was truly working hard making sure to get orders out promptly. I went to the front and the young lady who was multitasking like crazy helped me. She had my drinks already ready and added my to go boxes in bags. What I appreciated the most was that she double checked the order to make sure I walked away with everything I ordered. My friend and I really enjoyed the food and the teas. She was starving so I think she detached her jaw and just took the avocado toast in with one bite. I can't completely confirm as it was there and gone pretty quickly. As for me, I LOVED the Cubano sandwich. The fact that it's done on Hawaiian bread was the whole reason I ordered it. I love when someone puts their own twist on a recipe. The ham was salty, the Swiss added cheesy goodness, the tea infused pickles and tea infused mayo was awesome! And the pickled jalapeños added another level that I did not know I needed. The Hawaiian bread is a great choice for this sandwich! The cucumber salad was crisp, herby and peppery. Very refreshing! The drinks were made perfectly! I liked that mine was creamy with a hint of coconut and sweetness. Not overpowering, just nicely balanced. The lemon coconut cake was a surprise! I loved that it was not overly sweet. Our party of 5 lucked out on a Saturday afternoon for lunch, as it's a pretty small place, with not a ton of seating to accommodate its popularity. I wasn't too hungry, so only ordered a peachy creamy tea, but others had vegan jackfruit tacos, turkey sandwich, and a breakfast sandwich served with breakfast potatoes. Everyone loved their food, and my tea was good but very large. I asked for a to-go cup and it was full, so good-sized portions. I also ordered the Modern Detox hot tea (so refreshing!) and the Masala Chai Tea iced in the Milk Tea version with light sweet and Half&Half (very good, a little milky but delicious nonetheless). We were not disappointed in the slightest. Upon making our reservation, the staff was incredibly accommodating, especially considering that half of our group follows a vegan diet. When we arrived, we were greeted warmly, and the level of customer service remained exceptional throughout our visit. The food options were diverse and delicious, catering to everyone's tastes and dietary preferences. Each dish was met with rave reviews from our group, including the children who thoroughly enjoyed their meals. The drink selection was equally impressive. I personally fell in love with the Lavender Chai Tea with oat milk--it was a delightful blend of flavors that left me craving more. Though I only managed to capture a few snapshots of the food, the memories of our experience at The Modern Tea Room will stay with us for a long time. It truly breaks my heart to write this because I've loved this place for years. I've been coming to The Modern Tea Room since the early quarantine days, and it's always been one of my top favorites--lnot just because of the food, but because of the incredible staff and the community vibe that radiated throughout the space. The energy was warm, welcoming, and genuine, and it made every visit feel special. Recently, I came back to town to visit family and made two trips here in one week. Sadly, something just felt off. On my first visit, I ordered a to-go burrito, and when I opened the bag, it wasn't fully rolled and felt messy. They were busy, so I decided to give them some grace and try again another day. On my second visit, I ordered ahead, but unfortunately, the interaction I had with a staff member over something as small as sauce felt unpleasant and so unlike the Tea Room vibe I remember. It may seem like a minor issue, but it stood out because it wasn't the friendly, uplifting energy I've come to associate with this place. It's just sad to see a spot that was once so full of joy and connection lose that spark. I hope they can bring back the warmth and community spirit that made them so special. read more
