A clever trick to use when traveling is asking the locals where they eat! After a music concert in Houston we got out after 10 PM. Where to eat? After asking a local Houston resident they mentioned this Deli. 1) It's opened 24 hrs 2) It's delish 3) It was close by. I was sold and after reading reviews, Katz's didn't disappoint! Upon walking in the deco is all about NYC getting me in the mood to expect a great NYC deli! The sandwiches are a great size and very filling if you order the "Fare" size. If you're extremely hungry or want to share go with the "NY Size". Since I always eat with my eyes I wanted to order two (yes two!) So I convinced my friend to order the Pot Roast and I ordered The Corn Beef and we traded halves. Our third friend ordered the Turkey! OH MY! The sandwiches were delish and juicy :) I couldn't even get my mouth around them, piled so high! :) The French Fries are crisp and perfect size. They have coleslaw that is complimentary. Every time my mom comes to visit, we always come here for lunch. The hosts/hostesses and the servers are always very friendly and make you feel welcome. She always gets the Reuben sandwich, enormous and delicious. I most recently had the blackened chicken salad, which was very tasty as well! We usually get the fruit tray, because the sweet dipping sauce that comes with it is amazing. The matzo ball soup is not to be missed either! I've never been at night or on a weekday, but if you're looking for a great weekend lunch spot, I highly recommend Katz's! read more

When I found out there was one here in Houston, I went IMMEDIATELY. I went late night, after a concert. They weren't super busy, but for latenight on a wednesday, there were quite a few people. I can imagine on a weekend they're probably packed. Super friendly staff and delish food. I had the bagel with salmon-TO DIE FOR! I think they might have used an entire tub of cream cheese. Ordered a pastrami sandwich and fries for lunch. Fries were average and the pastrami sandwich was decent but I've had better. Ordered to go and didn't wait too long for the meal. The reason for 3 stars was the price for the sandwich and fries, $18... Should have looked at the menu online before hand. Way overpriced for such an average meal. Won't be coming here again for that reason alone. Parking was ok and the staff was friendly and helpful. Too bad the prices aren't reasonable, the place could be a nice lunch spot. read more

Katz's Deli is right down the street from UH and a convenient place to grab lunch while on breaks between classes. I was going through my squirrel feeding frenzy and the waiter here graciously wrapped up my bread crusts and a pickle after I told him squirrels liked deli food just like humans do. He laughed and gave me that "please don't stab me a pencil" look but I didn't care. The squirrels were thankful. I got a friend to stick the pickle in a hole in a tree. I absolutely love Katz! ME and my husband have made it a tradition to go there every year on our wedding anniversary because on the first day of our honeymoon we had breakfast here. My husband really liked the Eggs Linda and I really love love love the, oh I forget the actual name of it on the menu, I think fritatta. But its a lot like an omelette and it has this delicious cream spinach sauce! Oh YUMMY!!! And the Potato pancakes!!! You gotta love them! The service is great too! I've never had a bad experience with any of the staff, they are always on top of their tables and they are always extremely nice even when its busy. One thing I would say is that I know they always ask if the manager came by the table on their comment cards, but the manager rarely does when we eat there. So if that is something they are wanting to promote then I think they should work on that. read more

I was never a big fan of the Katz's in Austin and had given up on the place completely. However, I went for lunch this week in Houston and the experience was better. The place is very like a New York Deli which gives it a great feel. I have to say I love the complimentary pickle and coleslaw appetizer (those pickles are the absolute best!). I ordered the avocado reuben which was pretty tasty and the spinach side was delicious. However I was out on my lunch break and the service was very slow. I was late back to work. Our server said that they were missing a cook so I suppose that was the hold up. The prices are not the best but they do have lunch specials which I will stick to. Katz's has some steep prices, but I'm assuming it's because of their location. The more central the location, the more likely you are to pay for anything, including dinner. The food is pretty good, but not anything out of this world. I usually have the vegetarian reuben with a side salad. I used to order their mashed potatoes as a side, but they were very dry the last time I did. Service is fast and friendly, which is always a plus. Overall, it's a nice place to grab a bite, especially if there's nothing else open and you can spend a little more. read more

I order Katz for the first time the other day and it was not the best experience. I used DoorDash and while most of the blame and inconvenience is on them it took over hour and a half to get my food. Which consisted of a Tuna sandwich, Scottish salmon with cheese cheese, and egg salad sandwich. Natural after an hour I called Katz to see what was going on the order was still there and waiting I asked if they would remake the sandwiches as that's a king time for fish and eggs to be sitting out, while the lady on the phone was not excited about this I finally talked with a manager who I believe his name was Josh or John he had no problems remaking my order and was super understanding. That alone would have earned 3 star, the food was AMAZING I was blown away with how good the food was. I enjoyed the tuna salad and is by far the best sandwich I've had in awhile my friends also rated their food high as well the lox and cream cheese sandwich that was a shared dish disappeared so fast I didn't even get a bite!!! While the experience was less than stellar Katz and the crew there where amazing and really went the extra mile to ensure I was happy. So I 109% recommend this place to anyone looking for a good costumer service and excellent tuna salad I'm actually going to order from there again today. So I've been trying to come to this place for years and some fine ass lady finally got me out to try it. She had the Brooklyn patty melt and she loved it and she ate my pickle. I had the Angus Burger (well done as I like em) and I was pleasantly surprised. I liked it.
