THAT PATIO...WOW! This spot at Revolution Mill is outstanding from top to bottom. The food, the ambiance and the service are stellar. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves as far as the quality of the food and drinks served here. Everything from the apps and drinks, to the steaks and mains were top notch. Perfectly cooked juicy steaks, up there with the best of the best in the area. You won't go wrong with anything off of this menu, and the bartenders know what they're doing with delicious cocktails. In this review, I really want to emphasize the absolutely picture perfect patio they offer. First off, the interior space is large and beautiful. From the main dining room, to the large bar, and even the 2nd floor dining area. And then feast your eyes on the large wrap around patio, with an added separate bar and covered area as well. There are maybe a handful of great patio dining experiences in Greensboro that aren't on a main busy street or facing a parking lot. And those are great, but few and far in between. This patio stands with the best of them. No busy street. No loud parking lot. A raised area with flowing water, lush greenery and even a serene fountain that all surround this wrap around and elevated patio. Just an excellent experience for drinks, food, friends and family, or all of the above. We enjoy bellying up to a bar for drinks and happy hr, we enjoy going to places for a few apps, and we also enjoy tasty food and the whole experience. I had a wonderful dining experience at Kau for my husband's birthday dinner. I made reservations online about 3 weeks in advance for a Saturday evening. There was a small line when we got to Kau to check in with the host stand when we first got there. After about 7ish minutes in line, it was finally our turn and we were seated immediately. I ordered a wedge salad (with red wine vinaigrette dressing) for an appetizer and brisket mac & cheese for my entree. Both meals were absolutely delicious! Kau has their very own butcher market attached to their restaurant so I knew the meat selections would be wonderful. My husband and I shared The Kau Pie for dessert. The Kau Pie is vanilla ice cream sandwiched between two giant, warm chocolate chip cookies and topped with whipped cream and chocolate sauce. Our server was Myles. He shared that he was fairly new to the job, but he was great! He had a joyful personality making jokes, a positive attitude, and he was attentive. Kau has an inside and outside area, but we sat inside. It was a very open concept inside with exposed ceilings. I loved the design because it matched the outside warehouse look. Parking was plentiful, but make sure you park in the right area that isn't reserved for elsewhere. My all time favorite place to dine in for some steak in greensboro. I went here for a friends birthday dinner. We ordered a dozen oysters, mussels and scallops for our starting appetizers. Out of all the seafood appetizers I tried, fell in love with the mussels. The sauce was well seasoned to taste and compliments the mussels. It was so delicous I had to dipped the complimentary bread in it. For the entrees we ordered mac and cheese brisket, ribeye thick cut and a tomahawk to share as a family style dinner. Eveything I tried was cooked well and seasoned great. Although the steak sauce that came with the tomahawk is a bit salty but it was in a sauce cup and not poured onto the steak, so add as much to perference of taste. Place gives industrial modern look,lighting is dimmed, not many children dining in but there is a section on the menu for kids. Theres is two level of seating. We were seated ground level. Theres plenty of seatings to dine in. There is also a private room for large parties available for reservations. A great place for steak group dinner outings. read more

I have always wanted to try this spot and when my friend offered for us to go there for an early dinner I was definitely in! When we arrived, I didn't realize how big the place actually was but it was a nice surprise. The place is beautiful inside, nice ambiance and the customer service was impeccable. I wish I remembered the name of the waiter, but I know he used to work at the Green Valley Grill's bar, either way he was wonderful! He talked to us about our questions and I ended up just ordering a burger and mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were great but the burger was just alright, presentation was on point though! It was not cooked as done as I would like it so I didn't eat it all, that turned me off a bit. I haven't been back at all, don't know if I would return but on a date night it would be a great spot to talk and get to know someone. When we left we went over to their outside seating section now that was really nice! I would go back for that to relax. I've been to Kau a couple of times but never for lunch. Customer service is friendly, and the restaurant was clean, but the bathrooms could have used a quick wipe down and some trash picked up off the floor. I decided to stop in today and try their burger. I sat at the inside bar since the outside seating wasn't open yet. The only burger on the menu is the smashburger, so I went with that. I also ordered a strawberry dragonfruit margarita. If you like a greasy burger, this is probably for you. The bun was buttery and nicely toasted, but overall it was just a bit too greasy for my taste. The fries seem to be fresh-cut and thick, which I liked. I did feel like some had been fried multiple times, so not a fresh batch. The burger flavor was good, though a little on the salty side $(22). The margarita was refreshing and came in a short glass with a lime.($14) Overall, it was an okay experience. I'd come back for drinks and maybe try something different on the menu, but the burger just wasn't quite my style. Was it worth the $37 plus tip...... no. My second time here was in February, I brought my boyfriend and we went on a date in the afternoon right after leaving a coffee shop in the same area. Totally unplanned for our day, I raved to him about this place because both of us were hungry after doing so much work on our computers all day. I remember last time I came, I thought, this place is a hidden gem but nothing about my second experience was memorable. The service was pretty decent, we had a man come to our table first bringing us water and then a lady who seemed sweet but unenthusiastic. The male server didn't seem to know much about the half off wines at the time which wasn't helpful. But overall, they nothing particularly bad or good about the service impacted the overall experience. The food, however, the oysters specifically, lacked taste and seemed overall lackluster. The tacos I had seemed a bit salty and also came out colder than my boyfriend's sandwich which he didn't seem to enjoy. He barely complains but hardly touched his food and I thought to myself, this is all my fault- I was the one raving about the this place and now I'm responsible for the poor taste in flavor, overall heat of the food and the oysters which didn't seem very fresh. Anyways, truthfully wish it was as great as my first experience. IYKYK, in case you don't...only went because of an invitation to a birthday celebration(past experience was not good). I arrived a little early and to decided to have a cocktail while I waited. I went to the empty bar and was totally ignored for approximately 15 minutes, I waited patiently as it was busy, but there was no one else at bar! Someone finally acknowledged me and gave me a menu after I said I just want a cocktail. She gave me the menu and walked away, only to pass by me several times without acknowledging me anymore! I left and went to deck bar and experienced the same treatment. I went to wait for the party to arrive, the hostess asked was it to warm outside, I responded no and explained my experience. He immediately apologized for my experience and told someone about my experience, she did take my drink order and brought it to me. We were a party of 14 and seated, waitress took our appetizer orders which arrived approximately 30-40 minutes later. Again, I will say it was busy, but wait time for appetizers was unacceptable!! The waitress was serving two large parties with no assistance from anyone. Our dinner orders were taken and took a ridiculous amount of time to receive, one guest started a timer after appetizer wait and it took 52 minutes to entrees to be received ! I didn't even eat my meal, I just got it to go. We had to ask for water refills and had to clear our own appetizers plates. I don't blame waitress, I blame management for not giving her help. Needless to say, Kau is definitely a thumbs down for me I will say it's a nice area, but the service we received sucked!!!! If you know me you know I've never been a huge fan of Kau. It's not bad, it's just not my go to in GSO and I've never really understood the hype. However, they do have the best Philly Cheesesteak in town, IMO. I thought they had removed it at one point and I remember thinking that was the worst decision they could have made, but I gave them another shot last weekend and lo and behold there it was! I have to say, this was the best experience I've had here. It was packed, and the line to be seated was nearly out the door, so obviously they're doing something right! They did get everyone through pretty quickly. Parking can be a little painful if you can't get a spot right up front. This isn't Kau's fault, I just think the design of this parking lot and Rev Mill is poor in general. The service here is always great, I'll say that! There's also a huge bar and in the warmer months, the deck bar is a lot of fun! My sandwich was delicious as always. There's just something about it! The aioli is out of this world and it's a big sandwich for the price. That's the interesting thing, I find the prices to be inconsistent. Beer is expensive but cocktails are competitively priced. Handhelds are fairly priced while other things are outrageous. My friend had the Crab Cakes. Good, but absolutely not worth the price tag, and I'll pay good money for a solid meal no questions asked. Now I will say they are very clearly mostly lump crab and not filled with a bunch of additives or breading. They just needed more seasoning and weren't that hot. Now that this area is growing more, I'll come back here. I'd also make a special trip to get the Philly to go! It's a must try. read more

I went for a birthday lunch. The collard dip is delish. My husband got the ribeye. Good flavor. I got the crab cakes. They were good. But if I had to order something again it would be the collard dip. I wanted to get the fish and chips but they did not have it because they had not finished shopping g and prepping for dinner yet. It was a busy evening and it took longer than expected to get our food which wasn't a huge deal (we were not in a hurry). However, the food came out cold. My husband brought it to the attention of our server who apologized and told the GM. The GM, David, was EXTREMELY rude and condescending. We were both shocked at how poor his attitude was towards us. Kau is a very cool atmosphere. The bar tenders were great. Very friendly. Service was very good. One thing you should know is they are a first come first served. So getting a table may be tricky. There are only about 12 tables and then bar seating. We ordered the Soul Roll for start and then the brisket sandwich and meatloaf sandwich, both with brussel sprouts. I was not a fan of the soul roll it was kind of bland. The Thai chili sauce they serve with it helped kick up the flavor. The stand out for us was the brisket sandwich. The meat was so tender. Had a disappointing dinner here recently. We've gone there many times over the years and the food's always been good and we haven't had a problem. On our most recent visit, however, we were disappointed with the service. It took us 10 minutes to get our drink order when we first sat down and there were only two other tables, maybe three, and nobody at the bar that we could see. Apparently, the waiter was new. Very nice guy, but could only seem to do one thing at a time - would bring something to the table but not take stuff away. We had to wait forever just for soy sauce, as an example. My fish tacos did not have the radishes or the scallions that they say are supposed to be in there. Their hibachi sauce just taste like mayonnaise. The drinks we ordered from the menu they didn't have anymore and one they ran out of just the day before. I would say my husband's tuna Poké bowl he said was very good. Another friend had meatloaf with mashed potatoes and the fourth in our party had chicken with mashed potatoes. They both said there meals were just OK. Overall, a disappointing experience. read more

Cool, that's been going on for about 30 years (check out the BOB, Grand Rapids, MI). So Butcher shop is in the same building. Kau is an upscale dining experience with an elevated spin on classics items. I've been here twice and each time has been great from the service to the food. I tried the Collard Green Dip and Chicken Jack on this visit. I enjoyed the collard dip-it put me in the mind of a spinach artichoke dip but the collards gave it a different flair and elevated the usual dip experience. The Alfredo sauce in the dip paired well making it creamy and delicious. I also loved the pita chips which weren't too crunchy like chips but had enough body to be a good accompaniment. The Chicken Jack was very well seasoned and I thought the pepper jack cheese gave it the right hint of spice without being overwhelming. The chicken was perfectly fried and juicy and the bun was incredibly soft. Definitely a must visit if you haven't tried. Everything so far has been excellent. read more

We walked in to this restaurant and were impressed. An old industrial building, used to be revolution cotton mills, south's first flannel mill first opened in 1898. The history, location and the work done to transform the interior of the building was truly remarkable from the flooring to exposed beams and ceilings and huge space, we were in awe. I wish we can say the same thing about the food. My cousin and BF had the butcher burger and weren't really impressed. It lacked that extra substance to it, to make it really enjoyable. The patty was of good quality but overall it was boring, the garlic aioli didn't do much to elevate the taste and so was the Gruyère cheese that it came with, however the fries were great. Now, I had the beef tips.. it was good but nothing special. The mashed potato was delectable, rich and creamy and the broccolini was cooked perfectly and had a good crunch, but the gravy was a bit much and added an extra layer of richness that I couldn't finish my meal. What we enjoyed the most was the steak plate appetizer, unique tasting that you just can't get enough of. And drinks, good selection of wines, cocktails and draughts. Time for an update to my 2020 review of Kau, and to show my appreciation for this wonderful Greensboro spot at Revolution Mill! I've been here several times with groups, or just me and my SO. No matter the occasion, whether a brunch, lunch, or dinner, it has never failed to hold up. Not to mention, it's a big place, so they can usually accomodate you right away, especially if the weather is nice and the deck is open (one of the best outdoor dining spots in Greensboro). My favorite thing has come to be the meatloaf sandwich. A perfectly done meatloaf sandwich is something to treasure when you find it, and Kau absolutely nails it. I've never seen a small portion at Kau, and this sandwich is no exception! The chunk of meatloaf is very hearty, with their meatloaf sauce and a brilliant blend of ingredient, topped with muenster cheese on buttery bread. It's great. In fact, after an appetizer of collar dip (every time, just do it), I can only eat half, and end up taking the other half home usually with some brussel sprouts (my usual side choice) for another meal. To elaborate on the collard dip, might be my absolute favorite dip in town. For one, the pita chips they serve with it are divine. Buttery, a little crisp, on their own they are fantastic. But then you top them with the creamy zesty collard dip, and you're just transported to appetizer heaven. All told, I'll continue to be a happy patron of Kau, and look forward to more meals there! read more

The food was way overpriced. My husband got the large filet steak. It was completely gristley. We both got baked potatoes and paid four dollars each to have them loaded. There was about an eighth of a teaspoon of cheese. I don't think it had any butter maybe a little bit of sour cream ...overall nothing more than it should have come with in the first place. My petite filet was fine. Service overall was terrible. I think they were very understaffed, but the waiter was very friendly. There is so much that could be improved. Ate here with a friend recently. She got the classic burger with fries and I got beef tips with mashed potatoes and green beans. Her burger was dry and lacked flavor. (I tried it too) the fries were cold when served. My beef tips were good but small amount. The queso and chips appetizer was just ok. Chips seemed stale Bill with tip was well over $70 I love the setting but honestly extremely poor food for the cost. The steak prices must be highest in triad Eaten here three times now... similar experience every time . I'm done If you fancy a drink at the outside bar under stacks that would be the only reason to go. read more
