The review is for the office experience and the doctor's unsympathetic behavior. We had an appointment for a certain time and were travelling from 180 miles away, and were caught in traffic even while starting 3.5 hours early. We called the doctor's office to mention that we would be 15 mins late and were told immediately that we need to reschedule the appointment. We explained the situation, and yet the answer was to come the next day or find a suitable appointment. The only positive outcome of this experience is that we found a better OBGYN near our home, and will never recommend this doctor to anyone as there are mnay good docotrs around in Torrance. read more

Don't promise and underdeliver, especially as an OBGYN. Overall, subpar experience visiting Dr. Kwok and her office a handful of times, including 2 miscarriages. As someone who has a history of endocervical polyps, she mentioned how she can easily remove a polyp that she saw through a consult but wanted to wait until the pregnancy progressed, which was fine. Few weeks later, I experienced my second miscarriage, and I called after my d&c to schedule a polypectomy. I'm told that I have to have another consult THEN schedule another appointment to remove the polyp, which she had mentioned would be easy and quick to remove at the same appointment. It's hard enough going through multiple miscarriages, but having a doctor who promises something and then changes what they say is not a pleasant experience. Also, as others have mentioned, their front office staff is terrible. I've never met more inconsiderate, rude, and curt office staff, especially for obgyn! The front desk in a medical office is the face of the doctor, and theirs reflects the treatment you'll get here. I don't mind if the dr isn't sweet as long as they're good at what they do, but don't make an appt if you can't handle harsh environments. read more

I'm 26 and had only been to an OB-GYN once before. I'd never had a Pap smear or full pelvic exam and had heard all the horror stories from friends about how uncomfortable they could be (or how uncomfortable they assumed Paps would be). For what it's worth, almost none of friends have had a Pap smear before, and we've ALL grown up in families where gynecological exams are taboo or assumed to be only for much older and/or longtime married women. So, when I mentioned my upcoming appointment with a gynecologist. people joked, "Good luck with the speculum" and "You'll have to take one for the team." Needless to say, I was dreading it. Dr. Kwok, however, was incredible. She explained clearly and kindly why both the Pap smear and pelvic exam were needed, and she made me feel comfortable and normal throughout. She was calm, funny, and down-to-earth; it honestly felt like just another Monday, while still being completely professional and efficient. When I told her I was in pain during the Pap, she was compassionate and patient. It really touched me that she took the time to make sure I was okay, especially knowing how many Pap smears OB-GYNs perform each year and how busy their schedules are. I also mentioned that I sometimes faint during painful periods, and she was immediately thoughtful, kind, and solution-oriented, explaining what we could do if it happened again. On a personal note, I've been debating whether to switch careers to medicine, and this experience reminded me why compassionate, skilled doctors like Dr. Kwok make such a difference. If I ever do take that path, I hope I can be as amazing a doctor as she is. And, to top it all off, we both went to UC Berkeley for undergrad. Go Bears! read more

Rude customer service, front desk representatives. I called an inquired if my insurance would be covered. I mentioned I had Cigna HMO I wasn't 100 percent sure if I had an HMO or a PPO. They informed no HMO is accepted. They are unable to check (CIGNA portal). They told me to call the back of my card and disconnected the line. I called back to to get more information and spoke with Vivian still very much rude and she might have been the same person who disconnected the line on me. Looking for a OGBYN and this definitely not the type of service I would want to receive as a client. Reps are the frontlines of your office and not very friendly. read more

Do yourself a favor and find another Dr. I have been a patient for years and had 3 deliveries with Dr. Kwok. She is good at delivering and that's about it. Her office staff is rude. She is also unwilling to help with issues. I had a special needs daughter and when I got pregnant after that I needed special testing. She and her staff were unwilling to help me get in to see the best Dr for the procedure I needed. They also can't seem to refer to any other office they don't work with. They give you the run around. She has so many negative reviews and I know why. I don't know why I stuck with her for so long. It is beyond disappointing to have a health care provider that doesn't really care about your health and wellbeing. read more

NO bedside manner, emotional intelligence or knowledge in fertility For the past year, all Kwok has done is guess what potential issues could be with no testing or proof, causing stress. She'll then forget everything she said in the next appointments and never follow up on it again. When I tried to remind her what we had discussed she made a point to mention this was NOT a fertility visit so we cannot discuss what she left me stressing about in the last appointment and hurried me out. I had to bring PICTURES for her to take my concerns seriously and when I mentioned I felt it took a long time to get to this conclusion, her response was "i just met you." Both the doctor and staff are immature and have horrible attitudes and tempers. Do not come here if you're trying to get pregnant. All you will get is gaslit by Kowk and inexperienced staff, and completely uncared for, wasting your time. All she cares about is rushing you out the door and refuses to discuss anything outside of what the appointment is for, even if it's a follow up from your last appointment. I'm not one to complain about anything (I've never even sent food back at a restaurant), but I feel like it would be a disservice not to share my terrible experience with Dr. Kwok. As other reviewers have noted, she is only focused on $ and will be unreachable if you have an emergency situation. Zero compassion in times of need. Takeaway: find a different OBGYN. I've been a patient of her gynecology practice for 10 years, so when I got pregnant I was SO excited to have her deliver my baby. I had a debilitating, urgent complication at 14 weeks and when I called her "on-call" messaging service at 6:30a I NEVER got a call back. I called again when the office opened and the receptionist was very rude and wouldn't let me talk to her. I had to rush to my local ER to seek care because she wouldn't return my calls. When I was at the ER, I called Dr. Kwok's office to confirm the hospital's treatment plan, but the receptionist belittled my predicament, and when she accidentally took me off hold and I heard her say, "Oh my GOD, this girl!" So professional, right? I never did hear from her about the care plan, and spent a week unable to walk. When I did see Dr. Kwok for a follow-up over a week later, she spent the entire visit chastising me for not going to her local hospital and bad-mouthing the ER I went to (which was Cedars - notoriously the best in LA). She did not explain anything about my health or my baby's health until I diverted the conversation to it. She didn't know my baby's gender ("That's not what this appointment is about") and took every opportunity to reroute the conversation to blaming Cedars for her lack of care. And after 20 minutes of listening to her complain about another hospital without even knowing if my baby was healthy, I was billed for overtime on the visit. Dr. Kwok is great when the pregnancy is without complications, but if you have an issue, you WILL NOT be able to get a hold of her for days or weeks. She explicitly told me if I end up in the ER again, I probably won't see her or speak to her. Save yourself and find a different doctor. read more

This is a tricky review to write because I am torn. I've been going to Dr Kwok since 2014 when I found out I was pregnant. She was part of another group at the time. I found her to be compassionate, built wonderful rapport with great bedside manner. I felt like she truly cared about me as a patient. When it was time to deliver, she took on a no-nonsense let's get this done approach (which I personally appreciated) and once the baby was born, she was back to her joking self. I want to note that generally, my pregnancy and labor was not complicated. It seems some reviewers who had complications had a much more different experience from this. Shortly after, Dr Kwok opened up her own practice which I was proud of her doing. I stayed with her because I felt I received very good care, even to the point that when I moved out of state, I kept her as my OB and would see her for my annual when I was in town. It was like seeing an old friend during my annual, but unfortunately the wait times have increased. The staff will get you in the room fairly on time, but you might have to wait 15-25 mins in the room before you actually see Dr Kwok. I didn't mind as it was a "break" I had to myself. If you are in a time crunch, this will be a problem. I've had a couple of touch points with her staff this past year. I don't know if she has new ladies working for her, but whoever is answering the phones must hate people (attitude, rude, condescending as if you're the problem). And if you hate people, you are working in the wrong industry. It has left a really bad taste in my mouth. It's almost as if they are acting like hellish gatekeepers on purpose and if you are able to get through the gauntlet (battered and bleeding) only then might you get access to Dr Kwok. Let me tell y'all.... I LOVE DR. KAY MAY KWOK!! She is amazing! I am currently 30yrs old and in my entire life I have never felt heard by gynecologists. Ever since I was of menstrual age Dr's have told me things that were happening were normal, and that I'd grow out of them. When I didn't then it became about my weight..... I know what these other reviews say about her but I have had the EXACT OPPOSITE experience. She's the first one to really listen to me, want to know all my symptoms and who has actually wanted to run tests. Has it been a lot of tests? Yes! But I appreciate her thoroughness, especially as someone who has had so many who never even cared enough to do blood work. I'd rather take a bunch of tests that come back negative than to not be sure if we might have missed something! From the first day I walked in there she has been nothing but supportive, a listening ear, and caring. And her bedside manner? Listen... I have never had a Dr. tell me I'm doing great soo much! Even if something is uncomfortable, painful, is good news, bad news and everything in between. She's always telling me I'm doing great! And I appreciate that and need that! I have literally told all my friends how much I love her and asked if they wanted to have a new Gyno because she's great! Also, I love her office staff! We always make jokes, laugh and have a good time. I'm telling y'all that whole office makes me feel good/positive about what I'm dealing with and going through. They have all been so kind, understanding, patient, and make me feel like I matter. If I could hang out with all of them there all day I totally would! I've NEVER loved a Dr's office so much! I had a traumatic experience with Dr. Kwok and it's taken me years to disclose it, but it's time. She cares more about being right than caring for a patient. In my case, she physically injured me and caused bleeding, like colposcopy-level bleeding, from a routine pap. It was awful and scary. At my second and last appointment with her, she got mad when I pointed out she was so rushed in our first appointment she had overlooked a large, prominent fibroid that is easy to detect during a routine physical exam. In that exam, she just poked my torso mechanically without really examining. She was PISSED I pointed out she possibly could have made a mistake and said it was my fault because I didn't tell her I had a fibroid. How could I when she rushed in and out so fast? I was in my mid-30s at the time, and have had plenty of paps. Enough to know when a doctor has purposely injured me and that excessive cramping and a few days of bleeding are not normal. It was retaliation! Years later, I gave birth at Torrance Memorial with a different OB. It was possible Dr. Kwok would deliver my baby if my OB was not on call when I went into labor. I was so freaked out, I said under no circumstance could Dr. Kwok deliver my baby. Thankfully she did not!! Unless you are ok never speaking up for yourself and advocating for your health and are fine with a doctor physically abusing you and damaging your internal organs during a profoundly intimate exam, then sure, go see Dr. Kwok. read more

I have been so afraid to post this review, but sadly my experience aligns exactly with all the other one star reviews. As a mother, PLEASE go to a different OBGYN. My first pregnancy ended in a miscarriage very early on. She did a DNC. The second pregnancy, I spotted for a day very lightly, which is normal. She saw me right away and told me in her office I would miscarry and we needed to schedule a DNC immediately (I was 5.5 weeks pregnancy with HCG levels that had doubled). I told her no, I would miscarry naturally this time if that's what would happen. Her office called me the next day pressuring me to schedule a DNC. I told them NO once again. Since then, I have spoken to 3 other girls my age that have all "miscarried" very very early on through her. Makes you wonder why she's so quick to pull the trigger on a miscarriage diagnosis? If I had listened to her on my second pregnancy, I wouldn't have my PERFECTLY healthy 15 month old baby girl. That was strike one with her. Throughout my pregnancy, she was always quick to dismiss my questions or concerns, quick to make me feel stupid if I mentioned some weird pregnancy symptom, and always with her normal extremely quick visit. Day of labor - an absolute nightmare. I was induced. Water broke, and I started pushing around noon. I hadn't been pushing long before my epidural wore off. She came in, started yelling at me accusing me of not pushing correctly. Told me I'd have to push right or I would just need a c section because she didn't have time to wait around for me. Later on as the baby got closer, she came into the room, looking bothered, examined me and told me I would need an episiotomy and clamps to get the baby out (her tone was extremely rude and accusatory as if it were my problem and I was controlling how the baby was arriving). I was crying and told her to do whatever we needed to do for the baby to come healthy. I ended up not needing ANY episiotomy or clamps, and I hardly tore. However after the baby came, she pushed on my stomach SO HARD I was screaming in pain. I told her I needed pain meds, and she dismissed me. Her phone rang and she answered and said "where do you think I am" with an attitude, again making it clear she was pissed to be at the hospital so late. Also, I had NUMEROUS nurses come into the room after and apologize to me for Dr Kwoks behavior!!!!! The lady has literally zero compassion for her patients and no bed side manner. I switched doctors, and am extremely terrified if I were to get her as an on call doctor for my next baby. read more

Dr. Kwok and her office have been great throughout my pregnancy. Every appt was timely and pretty quick. The staff was always nice and on top of things. She talks quick and is busy but always gives time for questions and concerns. What I liked most was she didn't make a big deal out of things. Even if something might pop up as concerning she just talked me through. I delivered across the street and it was great to be with a doctor who the entire staff were familiar and friendly with. She does her rounds during her lunch and was quick to always advocate for me. I had an absolutely horrible experience with Kwok. My first prenatal appointment, she literally came in for about 5 minutes and told me she recommended some tests. Not really any explanation for why and she was in and out immediately. She was very frazzled and made it painfully obvious that she was not interested in having a new patient. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and scheduled my wellness exam with her for a few months later. I took her referral and my SO had a test done at a different clinic. We were told we would be able to hear the results in a couple of days from Kwok's office. We called twice only to be told it would be 1-2 weeks the first call and the second call the medical assistant told me they still didn't have the results but she would make sure that I got them before my appointment the following day. I went in for my appointment and the first thing the MA tells me is that they couldn't find my husband's name (what?? Doesn't make sense since he is the primary holder of our insurance and I've filled out all necessary paperwork). She then said she couldn't get a hold of me and had left me voicemails because my phone went straight to VM. This was a blatant lie as I had NO voicemails and NO missed calls and my phone was 100% working. She then asked me for my husband's name, and asked which clinic we went to for the test. We were REFERRED by Kwok to this specific clinic so OBVIOUSLY they should have that information. I waited in the office (naked) for half an hour before Kwok came in to tell me some bad news. The manner in which she handled this news was absolutely HORRIFYING. Absolutely ZERO compassion, SO much judgment and throwing out scary words that no woman trying to get pregnant wants to hear. She actually had the audacity to ask if we really actually wanted children and made it seem like we would be unfit parents. I am still in shock at how she handled the appointment but one thing was clear. I am definitely NOT going back to this horrible human being and hope no other woman has to suffer through a shitty appointment with a woman who has absolutely no bedside manners. The office is disorganized and sketchy. It really is a shame as I was referred to her by family members. Seems like she just was not interested in having me as her patient. read more

Dr. Kwok is just the absolute best. I had a wonderful experience as her patient and I highly recommend her to all of my family members and friends. She is extremely knowledgeable and her bedside manner is one of a kind. I appreciated so much how she said "hi" to my baby during my ultrasound at my first check up with her, and each time after that. That was so important to me because the first OB/GYN that I saw was extremely cold and I knew I had to change doctors immediately. So thankful I found Dr. Kwok. Absolutely love Dr. Kwok. She delivered my first two kids and I am very disappointed that she won't be my doctor for the next one since we are moving out of state. I actually considered coming back to California and paying out of pocket just so she could continue as my OB but I know that the travel will probably get exhausting in the later months. Dr. Kwok is always upbeat. She is sweet but also straight forward. She's always available to questions if I call. She was an awesome support person during pregnancy and even during labor. I'm so grateful for doctors like Dr. Kwok. Also, the only time I had to wait a long time was when she had to run to the hospital to check on another mom. So we found out that we are actually having a triplets..not 1..not 2 but 3 babies! Asking our colleagues who their OBs is and stuff..hoping and praying for a good one since my wife is having multiple babies. And then..Dr.Kay May Kwok name appeared.. Ok so we had an appt with her and true..yes she's so upbeat and very nice to talk to..all concerns we're actually answered! What really surprised me was she was in the operating room when the triplets were about to be delivered..I never thought that she's the one who's gonna do the surgery..the lead doctor in my wife's delivery! She led us all the way and had the delivery very successful! During this pandemic..I now realized that not all heroes wear capes..this one hero wears a scrub and a white coat..and yes..that's Dr kwok! If only we can afford to have babies again..hahaha..I will still choose her to be our OB! I'm glad we met Dr kwok and all her staff! Thank you for taking care of our triplets..our family! I would not recommend MD Kwok for people who don't want to be induced and want natural (or with less interventions) delivery. She is against doulas, and anything "natural". She is very pushy.Everything has to be her way. "My way or the highway" type. All prenatal appointments are quick 10-15 min max. In the beginning she was ok, quickly answered questions and "agreed" to my birth plan for natural delivery. She didn't help me with my SI and SPD pain (no recommendations for Chiro, PT or acupuncture) - just told me to suck it up, and referred me to back doctor saying "it's not pregnancy related" (mind you, I didn't have that pain before pregnancy and it went away right after delivery). At 34 weeks she told me that if I want HER to deliver my baby we need to schedule an induction at 39 weeks (no medical reasons, just for her convenience). That was the last straw. I quickly fired her and found the midwife that helped me with incredible home birth. Best decision of my life. If you want OB to decide everything for you, do an induction or c-session, she might be for you. If you want a good experience with doctor, that cares what you want, look elsewhere. read more

She doesn't even deserve 1star rating. Had such bad experience with her. She is just money hungry.

I've seen this doctor twice since moving to Torrance about a year and a half ago. The first time I visited her she seemed hurried but she was informative and took care of my annual (which was all I needed). Unfortunately, since I saw her last I've had genetic testing done and I came back positive with the BRCA1 gene. Because of this I visited her again hoping for a referral for breast cancer screening. She wouldn't listen to any of my suggestions (I wanted an alternative to a mammogram). She also didn't trust the results of my genetic testing and wanted me to get blood work done (the testing I had done was legitimate and reputable). Also this doctor and her staff have zero compassion, I have thick skin and I left her office in near tears. If your body is going through anything out of the ordinary find a different OB. This office is rushed and definitely didn't look at my chart notes before I came in. read more

She gives the "Fastest Pap in the West!" I made that joke at my appointment and she giggled. Seriously, she is very knowledgeable and thorough. She explains and questions you may have in terms you will understand and was recommended to me by another doctor's office employee. I will never leave her! Please don't retire! read more

Please listen to my review. If you care about the health of the baby and yourself...GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. This experience has been unreal. The Doctor will not be available for any of your emergencies. There will not be a doctor on call when she is unavailable. I was in and out of the ED from Friday to Saturday with vaginal bleeding and she was no help on Monday. I was told she was booked and had emergencies to tend to. A subchronic hemmorage is an emergency to me. Would not even reccomend a doctor within the physicians group. I was distraught and confused because the ED physician told me that my pregnancy was over then come back to the room 20 mins later and said she did not check all the test and the baby was actually alive. I was discharged still bleeding and was hoping as told by the ED department that Kwok would be able to at least confirm the state of my pregnancy but was meet with I'm busy. Please read all 1 star reviews and take them very seriously. If I had taken time to read them I would not have wasted precious time dealing with her office. I am now not having my baby at Torrance Memorial or any other hospital (Little Company of Mary) that has chosen to use such a poor doctor. I called new doctors office affiliated with Cedar Sanai and after hearing my case was given a same day appointment (New Years Eve). Unfortunately, for me, the positive reviews here do not match up with my experience with Dr Kwok. From the start, I could tell that she had too many patients and couldn't keep up. Most days, she'd come into the room, quite flustered, rushing through the appointment, absent-minded, and talking a mile a minute. The entire appointment might only last 5 minutes tops. On a good day, she would come in smiling, giving me a hug, but it was like she had a split personality and on the next visit, she would be super quick and sometimes impatient with me if I had too many questions. I had picked Dr Kwok because of the numerous positive Yelp reviews, and against my better judgment, I simply ignored the bad ones. Unfortunately for me, the experience had been bad overall, especially during the birth of my child. Dr Kwok was there for only 20 mins of the labor. She popped in, rushed me to push harder and faster, scolded me that I wasn't doing it right and pressured me that I would have to be ready to push the baby out upon her return, in 20 mins, and that she had 5 other patients and didn't have all day to wait for me. She basically bullied me throughout the whole thing, causing me a lot of stress and rushed me before the baby was ready to come out, which ended up causing me to have a fourth degree tear, which is not common and should not have happened to me. The recovery period for this tear took 2 months, and I still feel pain in the area sometimes. Right after the incident, she took 45 minutes to stitch me up, very roughly, without any local anesthesia. It ended up being excruciatingly more painful than the labor itself, and I could feel everything for the whole 45 minutes of her stitching me up. I was in tremendous pain and anguish when I should have been enjoying and bonding with my new baby, laying on my chest. When Dr Kwok heard me crying, she yelled at me to stop and wondered why I was crying so much. The whole thing was so traumatic for me, causing me much distress and anxiety. Just thinking about it would cause me to shake and cry, and only 4 months later, could I really address what happened and have the mental energy to write this review on Yelp. Overall, Dr Kwok had the worst bedside manner. She was extremely insensitive, condescending and rude. She definitely has taken on too many patients, and rushes through appointments, not taking the time to really help and heal her patients. On top of everything, her staff is quite rude and not helpful at all. I definitely will not recommend her to anyone, and I pray that this review will dissuade anyone thinking of choosing her to be their OBGYN. read more

The staff is so rude so I adjusted my review. It has been very difficult to find an OBGYN is this area where you don't have jump over several hurdles to reach them. If you need a high risk OBGYN I vote for Dr Gutkin but I am still searching for an OBGYN in this area with a compassionate/informative staff. read more

Who yelps their OB/GYN? Uhh...me! I normally write reviews for restaurants 90something percent of the time but, when I saw her overall rating decrease, had to put in the 5 star review. Dr. Kwok is a great doctor. Any questions or concerns, she answers them thoroughly...Knowledgeable, skilled, etc. Won't say much on this review since this is women's health matters (GYN). But, I will say she has an outstanding personality which is hard to find these days. read more

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Kwok. After relocating here, I spent 6 years trying to find a gynecologist who made me feel like I would receive the best care. I have also been a patient of Dr. Naomi Suriel and Dr. Kay Elledge, and while both physicians are good clinicians, their bedside manner is nothing in comparison to Dr. Kwok's. Dr. Kwok has the most genuine, calming, caring demeanor. From the moment she walks in, you feel completely at ease. Her procedures are explained both in advance and in real time so you know exactly what to expect. She is gentle, sweet, and brilliantly smart. She knows her stuff, and will take her time answering your questions and making sure she covers all the bases! She manages to do this while keeping her office running on time - I have never waited more than 10 minutes to see her, and never been in the room waiting for more than 5. Her office is clean, modern, and full of pictures of happy patients, babies, growing families, etc. - you may have to hit the snooze on your biological clock! If any issue requires visiting a lab or imaging center, both are located in very close proximity to the Skypark offices. She is quick to call with results, her appointment reminders are timely and by mail - no phone calls until you're ready to schedule. I have PPO insurance through Blue Cross Anthem and have never had any billing issues and my yearly visit has always been covered with no extra charges. Every appointment concludes with an awesome hug - no really, it's a great hug! I was referred to her by my GP - his wife also sees her - and I feel like I have found an absolute treasure. I hope she never leaves the area, because she is the best there is. I would recommend her to anyone - except maybe guys, as that might prove unnecessary! read more

A few years ago, my OB/GYN at the time left her practice without me knowing (I hadn't seen her in a year and when I called to schedule an appointment, she was gone). This ultimately turned out to be a fortuitous event, as I decided to make an appointment with Dr. Kwok (who took over my previous doctor's office/space) without having met her, and from the first time I saw her, I felt that she is everything a woman needs in an OB/GYN - kind, caring, truly listens to you and gives you time, and simply great at her profession. I have referred both my sister and good friend to Dr. Kwok, and they both travel from Burbank to see her. Come to think of it, even if I didn't live in the South Bay, I myself would travel that far to be able to continue seeing her! The waiting room is clean and pleasant (an aside - plenty of current issue, relevant magazines to flip through during the short wait), and staff is friendly and helpful. Dr. Kwok is extra special to me too, because she saw me through my pregnancy and delivered my baby boy last summer. Women know and understand how hard it is to find an OB/GYN that you 'click' with, so I feel very lucky to have found Dr. Kwok. If I could give her more than 5 stars, I would, she's the best! read more
