Unfortunately, they are off the beaten path, so I forget about them, but when I drive by, I HAVE to stop and get an apple fritter. They are bigger than your hand! Stopped in this past Sunday for the first time. Left with 5 donuts, a bagel, a bunch of mini-donuts and a loaf of rye bread. We walked in at 8AM or so on Sunday and the owner was in the back baking up something. Greeted us warmly and talked us through all he had to offer. The donuts - so good. The bavarian cream is perfect. The bagel was awesome, great texture. The rye bread...for $3.50 - yeah this is my new spot to buy bread from. I ate 1/3 of the loaf that day. It was still slightly warm from just having been baked. We're going back, often! We didn't try out their sandwiches but we will. I'm going to tell everyone I know about this place. I want to make sure it stays in business in Marengo for a very long time!!! Enjoy! read more

Three cheers for Yelp helping us to find this gem. We got on the road to Marengo Conservation District later than expected, so needed a little lunch before starting our walk. I had the soup/sandwich special: white bean & ham next to half of a chicken salad sandwich. My walking partner had a grilled Italian panina. The food was very tasty and reasonably priced. If every town had a sandwich shop like this, Subway would go out of business in a week. We went in looking for lunch, but couldn't resist all the lovely baked goods in the display cabinets. Ordered one of their french silk pies for Thanksgiving and it was AMAZING! (no Baker's Square for sure). A mouthful of rich, creamy, chocolate goodness. It is definitely worth the drive (1 1/2 hours) for their fresh food. read more

Best cakes ever!! I have ordered several cakes from Kay N Jo's and they have all been phenomenal. A couple of them were for my family and others were wedding cakes for work. My boss commented that this bakery has the best tasting wedding cakes he's ever had! The owners are very nice and their talents go far beyond just baking. If you're hungry, try one of their paninis, salads or soup. They're delicious!! read more

This bakery is great! We love the 3 piggies panini breakfast sandwich. They use their fresh baked bread which is a bonus. All the doughnuts are baked but still delicious. Very friendly owners. A must stop place while in Marengo. read more

Nice little treasure- not easy to find if you aren't looking for it. Amazing breads and other pastries. Cookies and scones, tortes- wonderful. They also serve sandwiches and soup for lunch. Some of that can be a little pricey but worth it. I go there to treat myself. Because often there's only one or two people (owners I think) working behind the counter, if more than one customer is waiting for service it can take a long time to get your sandwich. The only thing I really don't like from here are those weird baked donuts. Very off-putting greasy cake texture. Too sweet and rich. Can't finish one and if I do I feel sick. Now, some folks just love them. I guess it's a preference thing. The specialty breads compare to the best of any upscale bakery, maybe better, honestly. read more

When in Marengo I wasn't very adventurous as far as eating establishments. On Sunday I found my regular place closed, which was a blessing in disguise as I walked over to Kay N Jo's instead. Had the Italian sub which was priced comparable to the other place but was larger and MUCH tastier!!! The bread was as fresh as it could be. And don't get me started on their assortment of goodies. I had a chocolate chip and sugar cookie which both were fantastic. The people there are so nice - have a chat with them when you go in. Needless to say they are now my regular lunch place in Marengo. Can't wait to eat there again on Wednesday (and try some of their other desserts)!!!! read more

I go to Kay N Jo's weekly...I would go daily, however, I don't want to weigh 300 pounds. I love the brownies...my favorite!

This place has been around for 5 years and I never knew it was there. It's a hole in the wall with only 2 tables...1 3-top round and a square one (or was it a rectangle) with maybe 4 or 5 seats. It's quaint and looks like a special bakery when you walk in. Then you notice the food menu on the wall. Breakfast Panini's, Bagels, Skillet Scramblers followed by lunch Pannini's, salads, and sandwiches. I zeroed in on the lunch Panini's made with home made bread (which they sell). I ordered the Turkey Artichoke Panini. It was fabulous...they know what they're doing. My buddy ordered the Chicken Bruschetta Panini and loved his too. I also got a donut. It was disappointing because the cake part was dry. It might have been a freak dry one...I'll have to go back and try again. However...there are lots of interesting baked goods to try and even some home made turtles and some other candies. read more
