Kay's has been my mom and I's favorite nail salon in Nova. They consistently do a great job and are super meticulous in their design/nail care. For example, they will often go back after putting on the polish to clean up extra cuticle that they had missed. Will constantly check to make sure the thickness of polish is even, etc. They always have the most up to date nail colors and trends from Korea, etc. Despite it being farther away than other salons, we always make the trip out because we trust them. I recently went here to get my nails done for what turned out to be my engagement. I got my nails done by Judy (who I recommend highly!) on April 23 -- my nails lasted pristinely until June 14. Washing dishes, working in the hospital... and still not a chip in sight! I have never had nails last this long. Maybe some engagement magic. I found this nail salon scrolling on Instagram and a couple of their nail art caught my attention! I was surprised to find out it was the relatively new nail salon I kept passing by near Costco in Fairfax. I was interested in getting some of the nail art from their page and it did not specify which technician made the design like some of the others do, so I sent them a message and received a response promptly. Kay is absolutely amazing from start to finish! She took her time cleaning my nails and cuticles while other salons rush doing this. I love her attention to detail when she made sure all my nails were even with the same shape and length. The nail art is impeccable and she made it look identical to the pictures! Kay is meticulous in her work and she makes them look flawless! They also have friendly staff as well as a clean and relaxing environment. I definitely will come back to try their Korean gel polish! Super friendly nail salon. She truly did an AMAZING job with my mani and pedi. I showed her a picture of what I wanted from their Instagram, and she did it perfectly! Other salons have not been able to replicate designs I show them even from their own websites, but she was able to here without a problem. I asked her for advice on which colors for my mani and pedi would look best against my skin tone, and I fully trusted her judgment and I'm glad I did! She also took her time cleaning my nails and making sure my nails were actually even. I didn't even have to ask her to do it (like I have to do at other places). Very thorough and you can tell quality is important to them. I got gel extensions with some jewel designs, and it's by far my favorite nails I've ever gotten to date! Like others I went out of my comfort zone to try here.. I drive by this location a lot and followed their instagram for inspo. Prices are higher than other salons in the neighborhood $43 for basic gel manicure. I inquired about a color I saw on their social and they told me it was $20 extra !! I was blown away, I've been to other salons that charge maybe $5-$7 more for like a 'fancy' gel with the magnetic design etc, not $20. The website lists a gel manicure for 50 min and I was there for a little over a hour and half .. Shape was good but gel application was lumpy and uneven. For some reason she did two coats of top coat on my left hand and one coat on the right ? That alone has them super uneven looking. Upon sitting down I wasn't asked if I wanted to cut them down.. she just filed them . . I will not be returning, what's the point of showing colors on social to lure customers in then say it's a $20 up charge from an already pricey service when the service is nothing special to begin with . First off, I had a great experience at this nail salon. The interior was nice and clean. There were so many trendy Korean gel polishes on display! My nail tech was kind and was able to give me the exact design i asked for. She took the time to make sure my nail shape was just how I liked it. I left extremely satisfied but they didn't even last a week ): Got them done on a Friday, and they started lifting after the 2nd day.. I currently have one nail still standing hahaha I do have to factor in the fact that I take hot showers and wash my dishes by hand, but I had plenty of gel nails that lasted 4 weeks regardless of what chores I do.. I went out of my way to get my nails and toes done last week and while the execution was okay, the quality of lasting is not great. I got my nails and toes done with gel last week with a design on my nails and not even 6 days in, my nails are chipping. Was really disappointed as they are not cheap nor are they the closest salon near me. I sought them out after seeing them on instagram with their cute designs. While my design came out cute, the quality of what I paid for is just not it. I paid over $80 for just my nails and they're already chipping on the sides - you would think with what you pay for they would last longer than two/three weeks but that is not the case. I reached out to get my nails redone and the salon helped get me get booked asap. Very grateful that they were so accommodating and understanding. My nail tech this time was Katherine and she was an artist! So detailed and meticulous. She checked each nail in detail and her work on my cuticles was much more gentle but thorough compared to my last visit with Arita. We couldn't figure out what nail polish I previously chose, so we went with this pink. I couldn't be happier with Katherine's results and will be coming back for her exclusively! Really wanted to like here but the quality and customer service is extremely disappointing. Initially was impressed with the beautiful interior but can't say the same for everything else. My regular salon was pretty booked so I decided to give this place a try since it's close by. The older lady who did my nails was very sweet but unfortunately her skills in nails were lacking. I received a gel manicure (paid extra 10 for a specific color) and a regular pedicure. Pedicure turned out fine but the manicure as you can see is extremely sloppy. The nail tech only applied one coat of color which confused me but when asked about it she brushed that question off so I decided to just go with it since she's the professional. The color I had picked and paid extra for was a pink tone but as you can see it's just straight up gold. I figured it was the lighting or possibly because she only applied one coat but I am starting to think the right color was not applied. After heavy thought, I reached out to this shop (the same day I got my nails done) and asked if I could redo it. They graciously said yes so I came back the next day. However, after much thought I decided to ask for a refund or credit for next time since I literally just got them done and it can't possibly be good for my nail health to redo it the next day. What I DIDN'T expect was the rudeness when I returned. The original tech was friendly and the front desk girl was kind but whoever was the one that was going to "redo" it was extremely unfriendly. Never acknowledged the state of how poorly the nails were done and instead i received a very cold, dismissing attitude. At no point did I (as the customer) even act rude to them but I was shocked that the tables were turned and she decided to hit me back with rudeness first. No refund but finally offered to re-do it at a later date and walked away lol. 5 days after my gel manicure. I contacted the salon and they told me they could not fix it. Long story short, my daughter made an appointment for both of us at 1pm and 2pm. When we got to the salon the receptionist took us both in. The nail tech was making both of us nails, she slept a lot of steps. When she was done with my nails I saw one of the nails was done wrong. I told her and she fixed it. My daughter told her that she did not file the corners of the nails. She went over the cuticle and left a lot of gel, that is the reason why I came back to fix it. I paid $85 dollars for something I was not happy with. My daughter had a pedicure and her nail was cheapened on the second day. She contacted the salon and they told her it was my daughter's fault because maybe she bumped into something. The place looks very nice but unfortunately the service is not worth the price. I'm a regular in this salon for almost 4 years. Liked the salon for cleanliness and services. Until now. Since recently my favorite master doesn't work there anymore, and Ani was doing my nails. First time she did a meh job, leaving my nails scratched all over the edges. For the next appointment I specifically asked anyone else but Ani, yet she was doing my nails again . Ok, I decided to give her a chance. Oh my God, I was wrong! I noticed that they only use their non-autoclavable instruments once on a customer and they throw it away. Some salons reuse things. Katherine and Leah helped us out and they both did an awesome job. Kay is moody. The bigger receptionist is rude. The Spanish techs were wonderful and kind. Be warned that if you want something different from your inspo, they will be annoyed and seem to not understand, and constantly remind you that "the inspiration is not like that". After seeing their work on Instagram, I was really excited to come and have my nails done by one of the girls. To my knowledge this place and Amber are the only two nails salons that do gelly extensions, so I was totally hooked! I normally go to Amber, but wanted to give this place a try since (1) they are new, (2) they uses Kiara Sky tools, (3) they have Korean gel polish and (4) they are clean. I booked an appointment for extensions with gel designs online and although I like the colors of my nails, I just really hate the shape and the outcome of my gel designs. Originally, I had booked an appointment with Laura, but they had to change my appointment date due to an error on their end. For my second appointment, they had placed me with Rachel, and at that time, I had a lot of confidence on Rachel since Kay showcased a lot of her work on their Instagram. However, Rachel's executions on my nails was the biggest slap to the face. The metal chain that the she placed on my two ring fingers were soooo sloppy and uneven. The metal chain did not follow the shape of my extensions so there were lots of gaps and awkward empty spots around my nails. The other two nails where she placed the diamonds and pearls on top also looked so dull and simply put...sad. I tried to rub my nails with alcohol, but not even that helped with the shine. On top of that, my almond shape was not even almond. All of my "almond" tips had those very awkward obtuse angles on the sides that made the shape of my nails so ugly. I had to reshape my nails at home afterwards because I couldn't stand the angular almond shape. To make matters worst, my nails came out to be $150 before tip. With tip, I paid $180. I could justify the price of my nails if the end results were like the pictures on THEIR IG. If you could take anything out of this review, I guess go to Rachel if it's for a regular gel manicure, but go to Jimin or Laura for gelly extensions and nail art. read more

I came here because this salon has Korean syrup gels and their works on their IG posts fits what I wanted done. Unfortunately the results were pretty low par along with the service. I had specifically booked with Judy as they seemed to have raving reviews from other clients. However I was disappointed by their work with extensions and color work. She seemed to struggle with finding extensions that worked with my nails and ended up putting globs of filler which were not filed down properly. Overall, her attitude was really the kicker. When I asked her to make my nails shorter, she did that judgemental hesitation before curtly telling me the nail shape would change if I were to do that. Yes, I know...I said I was fine with it. Then moving onto color... I wanted either a dark red or muted mauve for a center gradient look. Showed her a picture of what I wanted. She then commented how the colors won't look good and the color I picked has too much of an autumn vibe.... uh ok I never asked her opinion...? She then proceeded to pick out Barbie pink color polish instead. I told her I'm not fond of pink. But she then tells me the colors I picked originally won't look good and that she will have a hard time making the spread gradient. At this point, I felt like it was a struggle to fight what I wanted because it seems like it's "not the summer vibe" or "won't look good". She then asks me which base color to choose, and I chose a more light peach beige color (she picked this color out originally with some others). Halfway through her painting my nails, she decided to explain to me I should have picked a more darker beige nude to get the nails I wanted from the reference photos... why did she tell me this now, I have no idea especially when she was the one who picked the colors out? Then she rushed the pedicure (it was closing time at that point but there were two other clients also getting work done). She didn't bother explaining how to use the massage chair so never got to enjoy that. Nor there was time to enjoy the foot soak either. Also was super disappointed to be told that the gel syrups they have aren't recommended for pedicures and was pushed to choose something else... felt like the point of coming to this salon that had those specialty gels was just wasted. Also, another client was seated besides me and was immediately offered drinks by their nail tech, as Judy said nothing to me. Overall, I did not get the nails I wanted due to the nail technician being a bit judgemental, and having hurdle after hurdle over picking colors, whether they were "too difficult to work with" or "not recommended". You can see through the single coat of base polish to see the messy chunky filler job to attach the extensions. I want to give this place another try with another tech, but the $250+ bill for gel manicure, extensions, and gel pedicure deters me from trying. read more

I'm new-ish to the area, and wanted to find a solid place to get my nails done like I had back home. I found this place via Yelp, and decided to give it a try. I booked an appointment for the Gel Manicure Design and paid a $60 deposit. After I scheduled the appointment, they sent me a text asking me to send them a picture of what I had in mind for my design. I sent them my design, and oh my goodness did they pull through. My nails look just like the inspo pic I sent! It took about an hour and 15 minutes. I cannot recommend this place enough. It ended up being $90 altogether, and it was worth every penny. First of all, i went to get gel manicure here since i heard that this place is really good with nail art. When I scheduled my appt i told them i am very picky so i scheduled appt with the owner but when i got there i was with someone else which it was fine. The lady was using tools that it was not sanitized (state law you have to use autoclave to sterilize metal instruments which they didnt have autoclave on site!!). Second i went there to treat ingrown toe nail since they been advertised they can fix ingrown toe nail. I had one toe nail that i been having problem for longest time so i told myself to give it try. I went to doctors n etc for this problem so many times so i know the basic but they were very confident to fix my problem. I trusted them even tho they charged me 70+ dollars for less than 30 mins for treatment. Which it was fine too as long as my toe becomes normal since i was having pain. After seeing doctors and me as a licensed nail technician i knew what i was doing. The owner said i have a fungus from just looking at stain on my toe nail but i told her ive already seen doctor than she shut her month. So I scheduled my third appt but in a mean time my toe nail that i was treated was not growing compare to my other toes. I called day before my appt to ask a question if this is normal but owner was too busy so they never called me back. Third I went today for my pedicure/ingrown treatment before my trip. My appt was with someone else AGAIN so i told them im here for my ingrown toe nail and pedicure. Finally the owner came and treated me but the owner was trying to argue with me saying that because i have fungus my toe nail is not growing AGAIN. All i asked was my toe nail was not growing like other toe nails but she didnt have answer other than trying to argue with me. They charged me 180+ for regular pedicure and treat ONE ingrown toe nail. Also now I dont even know if this place has ppl whos licensed to perform any treatments since i didnt see any license display. Conclusion I feel like this was wasted of my money and time. Also they are using plastic wrap for pedicure tub but it came to my mine how do they clean jet motor. Be careful most ppl get from fungus from jet and bacteria likes to stay in jet! I had a really bad experience. Within two hours of having my nails done my nails began to burn and itch. I went back the next day to have them removed. The shop tried to make it seem like it wasn't their fault that I was showing signs of an allergic reaction to the gel. I'm convinced that this reaction was caused by improper application on the nail tech's part. I've had gel done many times before and it has never burned under the lamp. This time it burned so badly because there was so much gel all over multiple finger tips. The nail tech also repeatedly ripped off two cured tips on my left thumb which damaged my natural nail. I'm now experiencing immense pain and discomfort all around the cuticles of my fingers -- and especially my thumb nail. They refused to issue me a refund. It was nice of them to waive the $20 gel removal fee but it doesn't really help that I lost $95 on nails that I had on for less than 24 hours and I'm now left with burning cuticles and a very painful thumb nail. It's a shame that they didn't handle this better. I do not recommend this nail salon. read more
