N2. 자장, 탕수육 세트 / Jajang Tangsooyook Set / 炸酱面+糖醋肉 套餐

My boyfriend and I LOVE Kaya Restaurant. We have been dining at Kaya for over 2 years now and the meals have hit the spot every single time!! We personally believe they have the best traditional Korean food in the area. We order the seafood tofu soup every time we visit because it always comes out piping hot and with a generous amount of protein-- perfect for the winter time. This time we tried the Jajang Tangsooyook Set as well, which will probably become a regular for us too. The jajang (black bean) noodles had a generous portion of beef and noodles, and the tangsooyook (fried pork) was so perfectly crispy and complemented so well with the sweet and sour sauce. On top of the great food, the price of every entree is beyond reasonable for the portion you get and the staff is always friendly! Another plus? They have Kpop playing on their TV. We have yet to have a mad meal here. Kaya appears to be a family run restaurant, so you can truly feel the love in the food and the staff. I haven't tried the japanese or chinese food here, but i highly recommend the korean food!

Looking for a place to grab food near my hotel and this had the best reviews nearby so I figure I would try it out. It's in a little strip mall the inside isn't very large so it wouldn't be ideal for large groups but perfect for a family dinner or like me an individual looking for something authentic and tasty. The waitress was super friendly and checked on me multiple times throughout my meal. Service was definitely awesome. Now there was a lot on their menu that I was interested in, but I decided on Soft Tofu Stew with beef, a two piece pork egg roll, and a milkis to drink (it's a canned Korean soft drink). Now I love spicy food and normally restaurants say something is spicy but then it's very mild this actually had kick to it. I could have eaten it with more spice but it's definitely has a kick. Egg rolls were nice and crunchy with the right amount of flavor. It was the perfect amount of food also served with banchan (Korean side dishes) all well made and flavorful. Wish their kimchi was spicier but that's a personal preference. Overall great place and would definitely come again to try their other menu items.

Solid quality Korean & Chinese food, that's really authentic! The hibachi specials at lunch isn't great so just skip it & be adventurous and order a Korean or Chinese dish. Service at dinner time is more of table service but at lunch isn't order at counter then they bring to table service. It's a hidden gem Aince it's in a shopping strip & not along the 68 HWY.

It is a tiny place with a few tables but has a great atmosphere! I believed it is a family owned restaurant which makes it good coz you know everything that they served is home cook meal in a restaurant. We visit High Point every year and every time we are in town we hit Kaya Restaurant at least 2-3 times before we leave the town. The server is always smiling and very attentive to what costumer's need and all the foods is good especially the bibimbap and seafood soup.

Small mom n pops place in high point. They offer hibachi plates Monday through Friday. I ordered the chicken and shrimp plate. It was delicious. We especially loved the spicy sweet sauce they provide. Service was super and quick. The place is definitely a gem. A must try in high point for a quick meal.

A friend in Greensboro has been raving about this restaurant in High Point (just minutes from Greensboro) for awhile now...so I finally made plans to visit her and this gem of a restaurant! For starters, I must mention that I found it strange that this restaurant is advertised as Japanese-Korean...given how it's basically a Korean restaurant, with at least 90% Korean specialties. Really, the only Japanese items I saw on their menu were Tonkatsu and Udon. The entire staff seemed to be Korean as well. In any case, this is a completely authentic Korean restaurant...as far as I can see it! Am thinking they added the word Japanese since most folks are more familiar with Japanese foods?? The place was casual, but had a nice, comfy layout and ambiance (complete with K-Pop on screen)...and a super-friendly menu! In fact, they had this pictured menu of all the dishes on the big screen, with price points...many of which I MUST return to try (like their Galbijim, my favorite Korean food of all time!). Anyway, my friend recommended their Tangsuyuk...and she was totally right. It was one of the best I've had in recent years!! They even had this "Jjajang-Tangsuyuk Set" on the menu, which came with a HUGE bowl of Jjajangmyun, a generous portion of Tangsuyuk, Kimchee and Takuan. Jjajangmyun and Tangsuyuk are my favorite Korean food combo...so this set was an obvious choice....and was definitely enough for 2 to share! Jjajangmyun was delicious also, but I thought it could have been spicier. Still, I was impressed with their "meaty" version...with generous chunks of savory beef in them! Although it didn't have that deep, spicy Jjajangmyun flavor, it still had this great, luscious flavor. Still, the Tangsuyuk was stronger of the 2. Overall, this combo meal was a was SUCH a satisfying meal...and all for only 22 bucks!! I just can't believe it took so long for me to take a road trip over to this area (less than 2 hours from where I live). In more ways than one, this trip was so overdue...and well worth it!

Kaya is a little spot that packs a big punch with its flavors. If you're searching for authentic Asian cuisine, this place is definitely worth checking out. I recently visited and tried the Stir Fried Spicy Pork and the Beef Chow Fun. My first experience with Beef Chow Fun was a few years back in Chinatown, NY. I've been obsessed ever since and have been on a quest to find a local equivalent, and Kaya's came close. The Stir Fried Spicy Pork was also a winner; spicy enough but balanced with great flavor. Our server was attentive, and happy to answer questions/make recommendations, which was much appreciated!

Sesame chicken, "fried Rice", vegatables I think

Not the best quality, the women didn't understand me because of the language barrier and didn't put in the order I wanted.

Kaya is a hidden gem for amazing Chinese-Korean food! The jjajangmyeon is rich and flavorful, and the sweet and sour pork is perfectly crispy and tangy !! It's absolutely delicious. Everything we've tried here has been top-notch. Highly recommend if you're craving comfort food with bold flavors! It seems like it's family owned restaurant and people that worked there seemed pretty authentic! Food came pretty quickly and service was top notch!

MY FAVORITE MEAL during my trip to NC came from Kaya Restaurant: 重庆鸡 (Chongqing Spicy Chicken). It was SO FLAVORFUL & SPICY! But first, let me explain. After a brief, but pleasant conversation with the order-taker, I asked him: "What do you recommend? Something with chicken & very, very spicy. What do YOU like most?" "How spicy?" he replied & I raised my hand up high & emphatically stated "I like VERY, VERY SPICY!" He told me, "this is what I like" (pointing to the menu) "but it is very spicy and it is Chinese, not Korean." I assured him that that is what I want -I eat very spicy. He then said it would take 30 minutes because they are very busy. "No Problem," I replied & eagerly awaiting my meal. I would guess that in ~15 mins he brought me the most delicious meal I've had this entire trip! 重庆鸡 (Chongqing Spicy Chicken) looks very simple. It's basically fried cubes of chicken. It didn't appear to be battered & there were no signs of dry seasoning. No sauce. Would it be dry? It did contain TONS OF dried red chili peppers. Scary! Yet it ended up being so delicious! The chicken was full of flavor -ginger, garlic, the peppers & who-knows-what! With my chop sticks, I started to avoid the dried peppers & eat only the chicken with the rice. I highly recommend. I want more! The people are super friendly & the restaurant is small but very busy. Y'all know if I'm ever anywhere near this area -I'm coming back!!!

(3.5 stars. Food alone would be a solid 4 stars while overall dine-in experience would be a weak 3.) Located at 3925 Sedgebrook Street in High Point, Kaya offers Korean and Japanese cuisine. Lunch specials are available. Tucked into a shopping center off 68 near the High Point-Greensboro border, Kaya hits a number of hidden gem checkboxes: it's unassuming and easily overlooked, it's family-run and popular among locals, and the food is, by and large, good. That said, I would hesitate to give this place a rave. A no-frills establishment, Kaya is nevertheless quiet and clean. It offers a familiar selection of hibachi dishes, but Korean is the main draw here. A large, pictorial Korean menu greets you upon entry. For those seeking authenticity, dishes like spicy squid or braised pig trotters let you know that you are in the right place. My wife and I opted to split a seafood pancake, a bimimbap, and a spicy pork. As expected, they came with an array of banchan, and portions were plentiful. Though food quality varied, nothing was worse than average. The spicy pork was delicious. It was served hot with onions and slathered in a delectable sauce. The seafood pancake's dough-to-seafood ratio favored the former though it was still quite tasty. That said, the bimimbap was a mixed bag. I appreciated the array of vegetables included though it was fairly light on meat. It also was not served sizzling, but that was my fault for not realizing that I needed to order the dol (stone pot) version. Staff here are polite, but they will leave you alone unless you specifically request something. Chalk it up to custom rather than any kind of intentional indifference. For what Kaya charges (entrees in the teens), the plastic silverware and styrafoam cups felt like penny-pinching. The variety of Kaya's offerings and the quality of the spicy pork alone make me want to give this place another chance, but I would probably opt for takeout rather than dine-in in the future.

Tasty food at a good price! The ambiance was charming and homely. Service was prompt. The food tasted authentic, side dishes were nice. Portion sizes were very filling as well. I would recommend the oxtail soup!

Fantastic service and exceptional food. The spicy squid and that was the highlight of dinner. Korean and Chinese owners that are delightful to speak to and know how to cook!!! So good!!!

After placing a call to Little Tokyo to confirm they too weren't filled to capacity, we headed there for our sushi fix, and it made me regret not having visited sooner. Little Tokyo boasts a pleasant, relaxing ambiance that made it a welcome refuge from the night's rather intense rain. The menu here is Japanese (sushi, sashimi, hibachi, etc.) albeit with some Korean and Chinese influences. The selection of sushi rolls is extensive, and quite a few of them sounded intriguing. Admittedly, the Italian (a California roll topped with white fish, tomato sauce, and cheese) was a bridge too far even for me. My wife and I came hungry and went with two apps (steamed dumplings and vegetable gyoza), four rolls, and two misos. The food was, across the board, quite good. Whereas some miso can blast you with salt, Little Tokyo's broth benefitted from an underlying richness. Our sushi was beautifully plated and tasted fresh. Of the rolls we tried, the Bulgoki (beef, crab, cucumber, and eel sauce) was my favorite. Prices here are reasonable for the quality of the food (rolls in the low-mid teens, most apps under $10), and severs are polite. The kitchen isn't lightning fast, but we didn't find the wait unreasonable. Based on ratings, I expected "good," and based on hunger levels and a desire to be out of the rain, I would have settled for "OK." Little Tokyo, however, ended up being surprisingly great.

In the end, I just don't feel my original 5 holds up. The restaurant is absolutely a super cool concept, tech forward, and fun for groups and people new to the sushi scene to try some things. When it comes to the actual eating experience though, the taste just doesn't hit home for me the way it did when it opened. Every sushi roll I got was so over-coated in sauces that it's all you could taste in your bite. That's either a heavy handed chef, or a mask for flavors you might not enjoy. In my mouth unfortunately, it just makes a texture-less mess, and part of what I enjoy about sushi is the layering of textures. Not that I expect to be blown away by AYCE sushi, but I had hoped for better than what I got. More simple nigiri pieces were ok. The seared tuna wasn't seared at all really, no brown carbonization, just a little grey. That doesn't impart the desired flavor. Hibachi options were also just fine, when originally, that was a strong point here. That people who didn't absolutely love sushi would still have good option to order. There was one vegetarian roll that included strawberry, mango, avocado that was very good, but again, the amount of sweet chili sauce poured over it was overbearing. I found myself scraping it off any way I could. Finally, one very annoying thing. The items on the conveyor didn't have any labels. Not even our server knew what some of them are. It's common practice to put a little flag before a row of items goes out so people know what they are. It creates food waste, or shuts people with some kind of allergy off entirely due to not knowing what things are. All in all, the novelty of the eye candy has worn off for me, and I just don't enjoy the food as much as other options in the area, even in the AYCE sushi space. But, this is definitely an experience a first timer would love, and it's fun for families.

Since then, the half price sushi hours are no longer in effect, replaced with more standardized lunch specials and combinations. Three basic rolls for x, two specialty rolls for x, etc... as well as specials on hot food and the like. Due to this, I just haven't found myself there very often, and until my experience last week it had probably been two or three years honestly. We came during lunch hours on a Saturday. The lunch specials are good every day, not just weekdays, so that is a good thing. Ordering was simple enough, still done at the counter, given a number, go have a seat. Drinks still self-serve, no wait staff or the like which is totally fine. We ordered a general tso's chicken combination with fried rice and an egg roll, a basic two roll combination of sweet potato tempura and Ro Roll, and a two speciality roll combination that I honestly cannot remember the specific names of. There were also crab rangoons. My first area of dismay, even though we were eating there, everything came in to-go containers creating a ton of trash and waste. Plastic utensils, cups, everything. This was not the case in the past. I guess they've done the financial math that it's cheaper than dishwashing, but it's terrible for our environment. It would have been better if things even came combined on paper plates than this. As to the food, we were disappointed. Nothing other than the sushi and maybe soup appears to be made there, definitely true for all fried things. Rangoons came with plain duck sauce. Egg rolls the size of your index finger. Sushi wise, the sweet potato tempura roll was the best of the bunch. The fish tasted fine, nothing off putting there, but also nothing pleasant. The flavor combos just didn't make me want to eat more... and they were all crammed into to-go sushi trays with dry horseradish ("wasabi") It is not common for me to leave sushi pieces for the trash, but I did this time. Ultimately, the things that used to draw me here just didn't seem to be in place. But the price isn't bad at all. If you are more concerned with value, and don't mind some of the things I listed above, this place could work for you.

This time I came back by myself and tried the noodle bar instead, and it's a completely different experience but still worth it. The noodle bar is set up like a small Korean grocery store station. Shelves of instant ramen to choose from, you grab your bowl, add your noodles and seasoning, then use one of the machines to cook it. There are three settings and I used M1, which came out just right. The broth was hot and the noodles had a good texture, not mushy. This is a basic setup. No fresh toppings, no eggs, no extras to dress it up. Some places offer that, but this one keeps it simple. If you go in expecting a full ramen bar you might be disappointed, but if you understand what they're going for, it works. And don't break your noodles. Leave them long so you can slurp them the way you're supposed to. If you watch Korean dramas, you've seen this a hundred times. Slurp the noodles and drink the broth after. I also ordered the Cajun tiger roll, 10 pieces, and that plus the noodles was more than enough food. The roll had tempura shrimp and cucumber inside, topped with spicy crab salad, spicy mayonnaise, and flame-seared salmon. The sushi chef used a handheld torch to sear the salmon right in front of me, and that added a nice finish. Between the noodles and sushi, I was full. This is a good option if you don't want to do the full all-you-can-eat. It's quick, easy, and you still get a good experience without committing to grilling at the table. I'd still recommend this place for groups, but now I'd also tell people not to overlook the bar if you're by yourself or just want something lighter.
