I was itching to use a gift card from Kaylena Marie's Bakery. They have a wonderful reputation for pastries, cookies and sandwiches. We had previously stopped in for a breakfast sandwich, but today it would be all about the bakery items! I was captivated by the gigantic sweet roll, which was actually twice the size of my head. But the cannoli caught my eye, and they would be coming home with me! And I would not stop there! I grabbed four very large cookies: M&M's, Snickerdoodle and Heathbar! Yum! My favorite item today was the large frosted heart tarts! Better than any pastry I've ever had! The lovely ladies at the counter served up a tasty cup of coffee for me. It's so funny because the food options here are all or nothing. I HIGHLY suggest you get one of their cinnamon rolls... It's big enough for 4+ people to split. Actually, most of their desserts and baked goods are massive! But their breakfast and lunch options are actually much more on the healthier side! Kaylena Marie's Bakery has quickly become one of my favorite local bakery/pastry shops in Buffalo in 2022. Each time I've gone in and looked at their menu, I saw the 'Artisan French Toast' section and my mouth would water reading it. I finally managed to try one and, oh my, I think I may have found my new favorite breakfast! I arrived around 10am on a Monday (had the day off work!) and easily found a parking spot. I walked in and saw the dining area was pretty empty with only two or three people sitting down and eating. I went right up to the counter with two of their French Toasts in mind but was still having trouble determining the one I should get. So I explained my dilemma to the woman behind the cash register and asked her for her opinion. Now, in all fairness, it's pretty difficult to go wrong with any of their French Toast options, but I was glad I went with her recommendation. I have to say this too - the staff here are always so pleasant and easy to talk to and the woman working the cash register was no exception! I placed my order and got a bottle of water (I'd had enough coffee for one morning already) and took a seat at the high table along the windows as I decided to dine-in, ensuring my order number sign was easily visible. It took about 10-12 minutes and they brought it out to me and showed me where to grab napkins and silverware. For breakfast, I ordered their Cannoli Stuffed French Toast, which is their Cinnamon Roll French Toast topped with (Kaylena's Great Great Nana's) cannoli filling, sprinkled with mini chocolate chips, and dusted with powdered sugar, served with a small side of sliced strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries. One word: WOW! I'm having trouble just thinking about where to begin as I loved everything about this dish. The base Cinnamon Roll French Toast... it was baked like a cinnamon roll and then it seemed like they put in on the griddle to finish it like French Toast. The Cinnamon Roll French Toast was dense, easy to cut with a fork, and had the consistency of a cinnamon roll with a slight firm, crispness on the edges. Again, a perfect marriage between a cinnamon roll and French toast. There was cannoli filling between the layers of the cinnamon roll and a very generous amount on top with plenty of those mini chocolate chips. Their homemade cannoli filing is an awesome compliment to their Cinnamon Roll French Toast as it was plenty sweet, but not overly obnoxious. The filling within the layers of cinnamon roll was warm and extra gooey. The fruit on the side was a nice side, the proper portion size to make sure the Cannoli Stuffed French Toast was the star. I was pleasantly surprised by how big this was! Now, I had run 4.25 miles beforehand and done some weight lifting before coming so I had a good appetite coming in so I took this down, but whew, I walked out feeling happy and very full with a little bit of that "full phlegm". haha I would have no problem coming back and taking another one of these down single-handedly, but if I didn't have a workout prior, I'd most certainly need another person to help. On a price note, looking at the receipt in my email later, I thought this was incredibly reasonably priced for how generous the portions were and just the sheer quality of it all. Kaylena Marie's Bakery has turned into a top-tier bakery/pastry shop in my books, and after having the Cannoli Stuffed French Toast, they earn a top spot in my breakfast spot rankings. I'll be honest, I'm not crazy about their lunch offerings here, but their breakfast items and other baked goods are phenomenal! Kaylenas is such a cute little spot. I met a friend and we got a bunch of stuff to share. First we got the special which was the California Quesadilla. Super yummy! It came with an avocado ranch dip that was more avocado vs ranch. Would definitely order again. I got a candy candy latte which was delicious. We also ordered the carrot cake which I had high hopes for, but unfortunately seemed to be stale. We also got a few different cookies (peanut butter and m & m) which were incredibly hard. Maybe that's the style they choose to make, but I prefer a softer cookie. I'd still go back but would not order any of the baked goods we had. Heard about this place from coworkers. One had bought the other a Funfetti flavored cinnamon bun which at the time I tried it...was one of the most amazing cinnamon buns I had ever had. Went on my day off a couple weeks ago to see for myself how the bakery was. Can't believe I never saw it before. It's next to one of my other favorite restaurants and also I drive on that road often. Really liked the atmosphere of the place and picked up just the regular cinnamon roll and a pastry heart this 1st time around. I am a big big eater....and I have to say, the buns are very heavy and definitely can feed 4+ people easy. A bit pricey but you get what you pay for. This bakery Is wonderful on a small street in Orchard Park I absolutely love her fresh baked desserts and all. She does also serve a menu where you can sit down and eat. And yes, it's huge! Not really what I'd call an individual size. It's more along the idea of a large almond ring I've seen at other places. I've had my heart set on getting to Kalena Marie's ever since I saw the picture of the cinnamon bun the size of your head! Anything that looks like that calls my name. So I finally got a chance to try it since it's rather out of my way. It's a charming place with a very nice clientele. Well let's face it people with a sweet tooth.... Not usually mean people! The staff was very efficient and dealt very well with the constant additions to my order every time I saw another must try in the case. What I did have to try wasn't sweet but a artisan grilled cheese sandwich! It's thick buttery gooey goodness attracted attention from the table next to us. It caused them to want to order it too. Now what I did find out was that there is cannoli French toast the size of your head that's better than the cinnamon roll!! It's by no means toast! It's more like a giant cinnamon roll of some form that's grilled and filled between the two halves with creamy cannoli filling and served with fresh sliced strawberries. Another great load of sweets from Kaylena's. They have day-old treats available for 50% off. I had the day old lemon cranberry scone. It was tightly wrapped and I couldn't tell that it wasn't freshly baked. Like almost all of the treats here, the scone was huge. I loved the lemon cranberry flavor; the tartness paired so well with the buttery, tender texture. I definitely want to try more of her scones. The biscotti was the size of 2-in-1. It was almond flavor with half of it coated in chocolate. Although it wasn't very crunchy like most biscotti I've had, the flavor was great and I was surprised how much I loved the chocolate dip since I'm not much of a fan of plain chocolate. I asked for the icing for the Brownie Cookie Cinnamon Roll (Special Roll of the Day) to be on the side. Holy Moly! The side they gave me was enough for 2 dozen cinnamon rolls. No joke, the specialty cinnamon roll and the side of icing weighed almost a 1 1/2 lbs each. What?!? Nearly 3 lbs! I came across this bakery in a takeout group on Facebook. People were talking about the S'mores cinnamon roll. Sounds amazing right? It turns out they have a rotating daily list of specialty rolls, in addition to regular cinnamon rolls and every bakery treat you can imagine. The daily special- chocolate strawberry. It was absolutely out of this world! The dough was flaky yet tender, with streaks of chocolate where the cinnamon would be in a regular roll. It tasted exactly like a strawberry covered in chocolate. And, it was just over five dollars and weighed at least a pound!! The girl working was incredibly friendly, she gave us a free roll since they had a lot extra and were about to close. Heard about how delicious the cinnamon buns were here, so put in the order, hopped in the car, and took the scenic route to pick them up at the designated time I was not prepared for how amazing these cinnamon rolls are. Cinnabon could never ... it wishes it could. Ordered five at them at just $5 a piece. And they are MASSIVE. One cinnamon roll has to be the size of a toddler's head. They're so large that five of them had to be placed in two boxes. It was easy to pass by the small little place, but once you turn around and get in line behind other cars lining the street, someone will come and ask for your name since you have to pre-order. She brought out the two boxes, and together they had to weigh at least 3lbs. Those babies were heavy. The box did end up being greasy at the bottom, and I had an unfortunate mishap with grease ending up on my pants and shirt because the boxes were on my lap, but no biggie. The rolls were perfectly doughy. And the cinnamon was amazing. You could instantly taste that it was real cinnamon and not that artificial stuff. You could taste the difference. Heated up they are gooey and divine. Despite the icing, they weren't too sweet. But they are rich. And they're so huge and filling, I'm sure most people can't eat a whole one in just one sitting. Because they're big but also thick. I highly recommend them if you're craving something sweet, and as I mentioned, they're hands down the best I've had yet. This bakery has been on my go to list for awhile now, mainly because of the draw of their enormous cinnamon buns. While they were out of those baked delicacies when I came in one afternoon, I had my eyes glued to a German Apple cake, which looked amazing and close enough to that coveted cinnamon roll. I decided to also splurge on a lunch item .... some ham and swiss sliders (served on their rolls with poppyseed mustard and kettle chips on the side) ..... very good but nothing could top that cake! Since my last review, Kaylena's has moved to a new location. New location is in a small strip mall, nice that there's on site parking, clean inside. Definitely less "homey" than the old location, but it's my understanding that the move was in line with her being able to expand her business more so it makes sense to me that a more traditional storefront with big kitchen is better for that. The cinnamon rolls are still incredible. Like, "I'd request this for my last meal on Earth" incredible. The other desserts are always fun to try. The meals that they offer are good for those without a sweet tooth - my husband likes to get the ham sliders. The reason that I'd give a 4 star review as representative of my last few visits is because of a few issues that I think are definitely fixable. For one, I think there are sometimes consistency issues. I always get the cinnamon roll (duh), and sometimes I go and it doesn't live up to expectations - (1) being stale (2) the icing is split (3) they don't heat them up enough prior to serving are my two most common issues. Perhaps this sounds picky talking about one menu item, but the cinnamon roll is why I go (and will continue to go) and I think it should be of consistent quality since it's their headliner. the service tends to not be great, and for me this is a consistent issue over the course of several visits. I was particularly bothered by the fact that staff, especially those manning the front of the restaurant, weren't wearing masks despite the Erie county mask mandate. Come on, guys. Be classy. The owner was super sweet and welcoming and she treated us in the matter that we were frequent flyers of this bakery and if the food matches the service, that is definitely a possibility. They did not ignore the fact that we are facing a pandemic and definitely were masked up and offered us some hand sanitizer whenever we needed it. Lucky for us, when my husband and I visited, it was a gorgeous day outside and the tables set up outside were perfectly clean and attractive which welcomed us to sit outside. We were surrounded by pretty floral arrangements, a beautiful garden and we were seated right near the door so if we needed anything, we could easily get the attention of the waitresses. As we took the first bite of our cinnamon roll, all my senses came to full activation. The sweetness of the glaze, the fluffiness of the well baked dough and the spice from the cinnamon was so well balanced that I got all of the flavors in one perfect bite. The Ham and Swiss sliders were the perfect size and perfectly stacked so that it was not too messy. The tanginess from the honey mustard, the nuttiness from the swiss cheese, and the smokiness from the ham on a freshly baked bun was like heaven on a plate. my husband enjoyed his Buffalo Chicken Wrap so much that he closed his eyes and remained quiet like he was dreaming of how delicious his wrap was. I've had the cinnamon rolls before and they are good when they're fresh. I checked out their new location on Orchard Park road, and it definitely doesn't have the charm the old place has, but that's my personal preference. The M&M cookie was fine, really standard, soft and chewy. The almond cupcake was very over baked. The cake had sunken and filled with almond frosting so the ratio of cake to frosting was really off. I could really only take one bite of this. The almond flavor was very artificial and I had to break the almost burnt edges off. The blueberry muffin was fluffy and moist, but there were almost no blueberries in it... The caramel pecan cake was a pretty disappointing. The caramel tasted homemade but was definitely burnt. The cake was fluffy but a little dense and dry, over baked tasted kinda like cornbread. The vanilla taste was very perfume-y, like it was made with artificial vanilla. Maybe the food is better. The cinnamon rolls are good, but I think they should maybe stick to a few things and do them well then trying to do everything. read more

Meh. I've tried Kaylena Marie's Bakery on five separate times now and have a tried a variety of different things. I'm impressed by none of it and disappointed by close to all of it. And after reading some recent reviews it seems like there's definitely been a shift in quality overall. The overall flavors of everything is ok, but there is nothing worth writing home about. You can find the things they do here anywhere, and probably find someone to do it better. My first time trying the bakery was some cookies a friend bought to a party. I thought they were a little dry but overall, not bad. Second experience was in store. Had a key lime tart that was actually pretty good, and the customer service was ok. Third experienced, met a friend for breakfast and took some treats home. Wasn't impressed by the blueberry turnover. I know they should be flaky, but this was just ok and a little hard. Fourth time was with family in town. This was before I tried their food and encouraged them to give it a whirl. Not great. Almost everything we had was dry and underwhelming. Best part was actually a cinnamon roll. My fifth, and probably last time, at this bakery was for the grilled cranberry and turkey sandwich. The bread itself was pretty good, but sandwich execution was poor. Too much Mayo, too think turkey, and for a sandwich that sounds like it would be a party in the mouth. It just wasn't. It's like showing up to a party where you heard there will be dozens of your friends and there's 1-2 people on their phones on the couch. There's just something really lacking about the flavors. Also got a cookie. And guess what, yes it was dry. Overall, there had to be something great about this place because the reviews were awesome. I think I just missed it and maybe it's not for me. Or maybe something has changed. But it's just meh. I love local bakeries and had high expectations and it was miss after miss. I would suggest going to Blue Eyed Baker in East Aurora.
