We popped into McDuffies for some good old fashioned comfort food. There were several pot pies to choose from in the deep freezer and we picked up a large chicken pot pie and a small beef taco pot pie. We browsed around and were impressed by the offerings of baked goods such as bread and almond ring pastry, and jars of unique sauces and jams, plus their outstanding shortbread, which we sampled on the way home, ooohing and ahhhing and wishing we had a nice cuppa tea to go with! The associate was most generous and helpful. Now for the pie tasting....yes. It was hands down the best pot pie you can get locally. You can actually see and taste peas, carrots, onion and chicken, not just a pile of glop. It reminded us of grandma's chicken ala king back in the day. Very helpful. Home made soups are really good. You get so much that you can have 1/2 for lunch and 1/2 for dinner. Their bagels are from Brooklyn. They are frozen, however, when thawed and toasted, they taste like the real thing. I am originally from Long Island and these are good. They also have a variety of breads, fudge and other treats. I'd much rather eat McDuffie's than McDuff's, which are Scottish versions of some of the worst and most overrated Wings in Buffalo. But this little cute bakery in Clarence does not sell Wings. They sell all sorts of other goodies. I'm sad that 3 good friends gave this place 3 or less, partly because I rate their opinions, and partly because this bakery doesn't deserve it. I've just been informed via text: stuffed banana pepper and sausage soup at mcduffies today. So I'll be stopping by to give that a try and I have no doubt it will be exquisite, heavy, unhealthy, and worth it like Fifth Harmony. Some of the bread is good, some of it is a little dry, muffins and cakes aren't amazing, so I can see why people would give it a low result based on the bread. But that's a shame because they're missing out on the real gems here. The Shortbread here is insanely good. Scottish-style buttery cookies basically. So good you could literally eat it all day. Magnificent. So if you want to remix a track, go to McDub's (Calvin Harris works there), or if you have a lot of trash, go to McDump's (also known as McDonald's), but if it's amazing shortbread and heavenly soups that you are after... head to this lovely little Scottish-influenced bakery on Main in Clarence. read more

Stopped in after a long bike ride for a breakfast sandwich and coffee and was surprised how much they have to offer! Lots of baked goods, fresh breads, big breakfast and lunch menu(was serving either or) and a lot of frozen items you can take to go and bake yourself. I had a sausage breakfast sandwich on a bagel wotha side of home fries and it was pretty basic but still good. Service was great and prices reasonable. I want to go back and try some of the breads and the frozen pierogi- they have buffalo chicken if your feeling adventurous! I've been to McDuffies many times. Usually for pot pies or baked goods. I've ate lunch in and it was delicious too. Since I was at my doctors office next door, it was a good idea to stop in. In today's world, the sit down area is closed. There also is more limited selection of baked goods but plenty of frozen items. They seem to rotate items so if you're looking for something specific, you may want to call ahead. Only 3 people allowed in the store at once and people were cool about that. I bought a loaf of country white and a loaf of cranberry nut bread (which is deliciously sweet). I was going to get a pot pie but they seem to have gone up in price a bit. They are very good and worth the price but I looked around. Then I saw the pizzas. I've had them before but haven't seen them in ages. They are a little reminiscent of the pizza breads bakery's like Burzynskis used to make but much better. Baked in a tin round, it's a thick chewy dough covered in mozzarella and cup & char pepperoni. The sauce is thinly spread beneath so it's not wet. It was also available in just cheese and a good looking roasted vegetable. I was really glad I stopped in! read more

They usually have 5 home made soups, that you can sample and then have a 16 ounce cup for a side. Dian had their Mayan sandwich (Turkey, pepper Jack cheese, blue cheese crumble, tomatoes and Chipotle Aioli on country white) and Italian Wedding soup. The Berkshire (homemade meatloaf topped with BBQ sauce, sauteed onions and American cheese on, surprisingly home made rye) and (after trying all the soup choices, settle on) seafood bisque were superior! Then pick out cookies for the flight home, yum. I am only giving four stars...I'd give them 4 and half if I could figure out how, because the help was super...is they listed giant pierogies and they looked delicious, but you cant order them to eat for lunch. Stopped in today to pick up the pot pie my MIL raves about. Got the steak and Guinness pie instead, and were hoping for the best as the beef in these things can be tough. The pie was excellent, worth every penny and gone in a flash, as was the deep dish ricotta and spinach pizza. Excellent quality and value for the ingredients used. The coffee was self serve out of thermoses but still good and hot. I could have tried anything in the display cases; it all looked authentically tasty. (We are homestyle bakery challenged where I live.) I wanted one of those homemade English muffins noted on the menu - wow - tasty and enormous. The omelette and potatoes that came with it were good but everything had a lot of butter or oil applied. I forgot to order the muffin "dry" and regretted that omission. Hubby had the Scottish French Toast which was 3 enormous slices of cinnamon swirl bread with a sweet cinnamon spread on top. A bit much in the sweet department but tasty if you have a sweet tooth. Yummy chicken pot pie! Buy several if you have freezer space. Nice hearty meal for your family in 1+'hour to cook from frozen. Around $15/pie. Tip: cover the top if the pie (the crust) with aluminum foil when baking. This prevents the crust from burning while the inside cooks slowly. Remove the foil much closer to the hour mark to let it brown. Didn't get a chance to dine in their cozy restaurant as it was past 3pm on a Saturday when we arrived. Will go back to try the soups. Maybe it's me but I don't get the hype. Granted, my review is solely for a yogurt cake, cupcakes, a muffin, and loaf of bread. I haven't had the sandwiches or soups or chicken pies, which may all be amazing. My mom wanted a birthday cake from McDuffie's, so we drove out to get one. Why, in the age of instant gratification by even simply calling, she didn't call ahead baffles me, but she tends to be old school. Meh. So we got to McDuffie's and there are no birthday cakes there. They had some small yogurt ring cakes and of course several different baked goods, including cupcakes. So we got 2 cupcakes, a yogurt cake, dad got a carrot muffin, and we got both a loaf of honey whole wheat bread, and English muffin bread. This place is quaint inside. Nothing fancy or special. The people working were okay, not overly friendly. We learned they don't have a bread slicer. Huh. You claim to use 3 tons of flour per week but have no bread slicer... Odd. So we get our stuff home... I have to say, the breads are really good. The honey wheat is really good toasted! But the breads are the only items I might return for... First, the carrot muffin had barely any evidence of containing carrot. It was very sweet and just okay. The cupcakes were okay, the chocolate better than the white cake, but nowhere near amazing. Also very sweet with tons of frosting. The yogurt cake... HORRIBLE. Crumbled apart, super dry, didn't have a good taste to it at all. This item should be discontinued in all seriousness. Would I return? Probably not. Ohlson's, not far from this location, has much better sweet items, and it's closer to home for me. Though I'd love to try soup or sandwich or even a chicken pie, I'm not sure I will be back. But maybe. And hopefully I'll find the items that deserve the 4+ star rating here. read more

McDuffies Bakery products are not for my palate. They advertised fresh baked breads and more. I purchased a box of pastry harts from their Clarence store. Which I believe is where they make their products. They were soft and gooey. First sign they were old sitting in a table for awhile. When I cut one of the pastry hearts in half my wife said I never knew pastry hearts had filling. No, they were just old. Pastry heart should be crisp when fresh. Almond ring was the same. Just tasted old and gooey. They advertise they have artesian breads. All of their breads are wrapped in a plastic bag. Good artesian breads that are scratch made are never stored in a plastic bag. This keeps the breads' crust crisp. McDuffies bread is soft and spongy like the bread you buy in a box chain store. Indicates to me there are preservatives in their bread. Their flyer in the store states certain items are in- house made like their fudge. None of the baked goods listed state store or scratch made. Just fresh baked. This indicates to me they buy the breads and pastry frozen from some supplier and just bake them and put icing on pastries. Just like a chain store does. Bad news is I earned one point in their loyalty program. Good news is I will not earn a second point. A good learning experience for me. I did not get value for what I purchased. The bakery items were not worth the calories. I will continue to drive by the McDuffies but I will not stop in. There are several true scratch bakeries that I can stop at to enjoy every calorie of the items I purchase from these bakeries. read more

Normally I find restaurants, suggest them to my mom, and sometimes we go. Well, this past Friday my mom got this brilliant idea to want to go to McDuffies. Trusting her, I agreed to go and off we drove thirty minutes to McDuffies. We arrived at approximately 5:08pm. McDuffies is a small bakery that offers baked goods such as breads and cookies in addition to a variety of pot pie and soups. There is what I would call a retail portion of the restaurant as well as a place to sit and order. Unfortunately, we weren't aware the kitchen closes at 5pm on Fridays, particularly because it isn't stated anywhere on their website or Yelp for that matter. All the lady at the counter kept saying was "yeaaa... the kitchen closes at five." No apologies, no explanations, nothing. I wish this information was posted somewhere because we certainly would have been done eating by the 6pm closing time. Regardless of the poor service with the closed kitchen, we purchased a frozen pot pie, a frozen quiche, and a cup of lobster bisque. Seemingly the bisque was warm so I ate that on the way home. Good thing I did because little did we know the pot pie took over 2 and a half hours to cook. Needless to say, I didn't even have any that night because I fell asleep, hah. Since then, I have had some of the pot pie and it was pretty decent. Would I recommend McDuffies to other people? Probably, but I would recommend they call ahead. Would I visit McDuffies again? Probably not, there are places a lot closer to my that offer pot pies and I know they'll be welcoming to customers. Overall: average food, poor service towards this Yelper. read more

Holy GUACAMOLE!!! This restaurant is by far the most tasty and affordable place to eat in Clarence. Mmm so good! I am currently eating a Mayan on spinach wrap right now with some chicken bow tie noodle soup and an organic lemon tea. I can't get enough of their helpful and friendly staff. I am so glad that McDuffies has opened a small coffee shop and take-out counter. I honestly had no idea this place was a bakery until they opened their store to the public, since then I am there a few times each month. Their take-out deserts and shortbread cookies are awesome, but I have been pleasantly surprised by their other offerings. Their macaroni and cheese, potpies, and "meatloaf cupcakes" are awesome. The kids cheer when I bring these home for dinner. I recommend stopping in and stocking up on a few of their frozen dinner entrees, the price is a bit high but you won't be disappointed. read more
