I wasn't a fan of the very scaled down atmosphere and service was spotty at best. Our Tuna Tartare was fishy, not seared, paper thin and not at all representative of the picture in the menu. You've been warned, LOL! The gyoza was hand made and delicious. Everyone was happy with their sushi. There was very little rice on the sushi rolls which is a huge plus, in my book. Sorry folks - I just can't give it more than 3 stars. I realize it's Oak Ridge and I shouldn't expect much, but these 4 & 5 star reviews left me wondering if I should trust them anymore ;) Though, I honestly didn't expect much for sushi round these parts. First I should say - there is NO BOOZE here - no beer, wine, or other. And no BYOB either. Bummer! Sake and Sushi are made for each other. Anywho... Service was at least prompt. Not very personable, but prompt. They got the job done. As for the food - we had several things. Seaweed Salad, Veggie Tempura, Green Dragon Roll, Dancing Eel Roll, Super White Roll, Kume Roll, and a salmon avocado hand roll. Everything was pretty basic, but nothing to write home about or to put on the list of things to do when friends come to town. The noodles here are amazing! The crunchy shrimp sushi is great but my husband said that the beef hibachi isn't that great. The service was slow but it could've been because they were REALLY busy. What a good find in OR, right behind Walmart and Home Goods. Prompt, efficient service. Both times, we have ordered to-go and the online ordering system has been down. Upon calling in the order, the pick-up time has been about 30 minutes...short enough to not keel over in hunger and long enough that you know it will be made fresh. The to-go orders are pilled on a table by the entry desk and there are a few benches to wait on. The interior and exterior vibe is a bit random and dated, but the food makes up for it. We will likely stick to to-go. We ordered: -Chicken and Steak Hibachi Dinner: really tasty and well-cooked. We order it without onions and they don't skimp on the zucchini, broccoli, or mushrooms. Great grilled flavor with subtle touch of sesame oil. -Shrimp tempura roll (added avocado): Perfectly cooked and tightly rolled. Avo was a good add! -Dancing Shrimp Roll: tasty combo of ingredients, but moreso a crab roll than a shrimp roll. It had thin slices of shrimp and avo alternating on top of roll. -Sweet potato Roll: Ordered both times and both times undercooked, hard potatoes. Bummer. We will avoid this roll. -New Roll: the spicy crunchy tuna and sauce were unique touches and not too incredibly spicy. Really liked this roll! -Side salad: If you get an entree, it comes with salad. No need to order another. I appreciate that they add both cucumber and carrot. Wish they actually cut up the lettuce instead of a few huge chunks of iceberg. Note that the ginger dressing is tasty but fairly thick and chunky. Depends on your preference. I really appreciate that you can add ingredients to your sushi rolls. I often add cucumber, avocado, and eel sauce to rolls and they are always accurate and tasty. In a city packed with fast food chains and Mexican restaurants, we will come back here often. read more

We stopped here because our go-to place was closed and figured we would try a new spot. It was PACKED, and we were worried the wait would take ages but were pleasantly surprised to be seated and waited on very quickly! Our food also came quickly and very hot. The food itself was great - we ordered miso soup (delicious and much more flavorful than miso soups I've had elsewhere) and three or four sushi rolls (all delicious). My only complaint was the prices seemed high for such small serving sizes, but I think we have been spoiled by other places in that regard and their pricing may be fair. Best quality sushi I've had at this price range outside of Vegas. The yellowtail nigiri is so flavorful! The spicy tuna isn't very spicy but still enjoyable. Service isn't very personable but they're attentive which I think is more important. For dinner I had 2 rolls and an order of nigiri for $17. They have a lunch special that is 2 rolls for $9! Tried this place for the first time over Christmas break. If I based my decision on the outside appearance of the place I would not go. Luckily I have had some amazing meals by trying what is inside a business. My wife and I got two Bento boxes which had a good mix of sushi rolls, rice, salad and a protein. I got teriyaki chicken and my wife got the beef. Food was great, service was great. Will be back and will dive into the nigiri and custom rolls!!!!! read more

My Wife is a huge Hibatchi fan and was craving it tonight. We found Kume on Yelp, liked what the reviews had to say, and decided to try it for ourselves. Although there was a little difficulty (due to differing accents on both our parts) in placing the order over the phone, the employee was about as friendly as a person can be. A genuine care for good customer service really stood out in this quick interaction. The order was ready when they said it would be and the two employees inside the restaurant were just and friendly and pleasant as the guy on the phone. Although this was a take out order I did notice that the atmosphere was nice and the place was spacious and clean. The food smelled delicious riding in the back seat all the way home. Upon unveiling the meal and sinking our teeth into it we could see that this positive experience was gonna continue through the cleaning of the plates. Kume. I've been here twice and I haven't really written a review. And to be honest, it's because there's nothing special about this place. I guess the food is alright....but, everything has added sugar in it. You can taste it. I've came here twice for lunch, but the most recent time that I came here I just had the hibachi, but I didn't get the rice and instead got more veggies in place of the rice. But when you eat it, you can just taste the sugar that they add in the food. I don't think they needed to add it because I thought it would be just fine without it. Next time I come here I'll order something else and see if they add more sugar to their other dishes. Kume is alright for lunch, not amazing and no where near the best, just alright. read more

Nice local Japanese restaurant. I ordered the chicken hibachi and my friend ordered the seaweed salad and pork dumplings. We also got the clear soup. All of the food was good. My hibachi was average, not bad, but nothing to write home about. I actually liked their veggies the best. Next time I'll get a double serving of veggies. Fried rice was okay, a bit greasy for my taste. Inside the restaurant it was quiet & clean. They kept their TVs muted and played instrumental music, which I appreciated. This was my 3rd time trying Kume. After reading reviews and my friends suggesting it, I thought maybe they could be having an off day or I just haven't found the right dish to try. Well, 3rd was still consistently bad. So I will no longer give them a chance. I've tried the Godzilla roll, new roll, hibachi chicken, clear soup, and even lo-mien noodles. I feel like if you're an Asian restaurant and you offer lo-mien noodles, it should be good and it kind of sets the standard of what to expect. Their lo-mien noodles had no flavor whatsoever, very bland. Hibachi chicken was very tough, and again, bland. Not tender in the least. Sadly Oak Ridge has very few Japanese and sushi options, we could use more of them. I'll go Knoxville instead and get my money's worth. 3 strikes and you're out, Kume. read more

This location is now in its second iteration as a Japanese restaurant. Kume is improved over its predecessor. The tables and decor are more befitting of a sit down, causal dining experience. Additionally, they now offer sushi and a larger menu of Japanese entrees. I usually go here for lunch and they have a relatively good crowd during that time. Most days, you'll spend 30-45 minutes for lunch. More than a place like Panda Express, but not as time consuming as something like Olive Garden (or a hibachi place with the group seating). Entrees include the usual bento box (which is a mix of teriyaki chicken, sushi, & egg rolls), hibachi or teriyaki chicken/beef/tofu/shrimp, etc. They include a decent amount of veggies (not just sautéed onions) and rice. Portion sizes are fair and you won't leave hungry. Main negative in my mind-- the music. It's a terrible, depressing version of "elevator music." While I enjoy the food, I struggle with hearing Dave Koz and randomly selected songs that everyone detests. Please, please play something more upbeat! Overall, I'd say it's average Americanized Japanese food. Better than what you'd see in a food court, but not on the level of more authentic ones like East Japanese in Farragut (or, for that matter, ones in Japan). But, it's pretty good. Carry out only at this place. Ordered stir fried Gyoza and the love boat for 2. Reasonable price for this. It included miso soup and side salad. I think the assortment was good but I thought they gave too much white fish which I didn't care for. The gyoza was great and had nice flavor to it. Overall, I would go back. One of my favorite places to eat lunch! I always get the steak filet with teriyaki chicken and fried rice (no veggie). The steak is always perfectly cooked the way I ask, and the rice is sticky and tasteful! The staff is extremely friendly and checks up on you quite often to make sure you're satisfied. In fact, they're so unbelievably sweet that sometimes they will give me complimentary mochi ice cream of my choice! The environment and atmosphere could improve, but it's always clean inside. It was a lunchtime visit for the two of us. Parking is easy and so we waited only a short time for the food to appear. The bento box was generous and the quality was better than average. The green tea was very good (Not weak) and the service was snappy. The other meal of various rolls was also well prepared and impressively presented. It's not 100% Japanese food but it's close enough for this city. For the money it is very very good value. We will return again. read more

This place is a great family owned, sushi and hibachi restaurant. The sushi is very fresh, the have a wide selection of special rolls, the appetizers are nice. If you sit at the sushi bar, you get little treats like deep fried banana. The sushi is very good, I have to try their other dishes, but this place is worth it, just for the sushi.
