Fantastic flavor 2 Meat Combo! Gotta try this!

I haven't made a review in a while, but I had to for this place. Took a little effort to find because I didn't realize it was in a recreation center. I am from out of town, so drove past couple times. Also didn't realize that they had not opened yet. The owner Sheril was so awesome that she answered when I called for directions and agreed to accommodate me. The portions are huge easily two meals in one. Flavor is outstanding! Easily the best most authentic Hawaiian BBQ I've ever had. I didn't realize I've been eating in Fresno where I normally go is not even close to authentic like this. You got to try it I'm hooked from here on out, so yeah, home run fist pitch!

We started with the coconut sake and it was sooo good. They bring it out with two shot glasses, which was cute. If you like coconut, you'll definitely like this. We also tried the fried chicken gyoza and it was really good. I liked it a lot. We tried a few rolls and my favorite was the spicy tuna roll. It's simple, but the tuna tasted fresh and it had a nice kick. We also got a California roll, which was good, but the spicy tuna was definitely my favorite. We also tried the chicken yakisoba. It's a noodle dish with chicken and veggies and it was really good. Great flavor and the portion size was big enough to share. Overall, I'm really happy I tried this place. The food came out fast, the people were super nice, and it was just a really good experience. Definitely a solid lunch spot in Hanford!

Crispy and tender and even better with the katsu sauce. Now that I'm back from a very long hiatus, I wanted to try something different. I went with the Hawaiian plate. Did that cus it came with Kalua pork and the lau lau which I curious about. I already knew the kalua pork was gonna be good cus I have tried that before but the lau lau was different. It's pork, fish and pork fat wrapped in taro leaves and I think it's steamed. The plate came with two scoops of rice and one scoop of Mac salad. The price is really good $16.99 for all that. Mac salad was nice and creamy. The kalua pork was good but had some big parts that was shredded. And the lau lau was okay.. I think it would've been better if the pork in there wasn't so dry!! The pork fat helped and I honestly couldn't really taste any fish. The taro leaves I had to get used to.. at first bite it reminded me of tea leaves. Could be an acquiring taste to some.. I used the teriyaki sauce and some hot sauce I had at home to finish the whole plate. I got spam musubi for my son and was very disappointed in that. It came in a tiny white paper bag and the rice was sticking to it. The spam was also dry af!!! My bf got the bulgogi fries.. the taste was good but they skimped on the bulgogi and the ones they did put in there, it was mainly fatty parts and my bf hates that shit. They definitely sauced it tf up.. maybe to mask the fact they didn't put enough meat in there. Mainly fries. As for service.. I would say it wasn't the best. The dude that rang me up didn't smile, looked like he was ready to go and looked annoyed that I even came in to order.. nobody was even in there dining. Just mainly to go and pick up orders.. it was pretty quiet besides hearing the chef cook. I got my food and I kept it moving. They have so much on their menu. Not sure if I'll be back. They have good prices tho I will say but a lot of the other Hawaiian spots in Fresno is lowkey better.

Yesterday I tried the newer Hawaiian place across town and because JJ Hawaiian BBQ was the only one I've ever had before I was expecting something really good but that wasn't my experience there so today I woke up still wanting something good. I placed an order but this time tried something that I have never had before here. Although I've liked everything I've eaten here one of my standard favorites has been the salad with the added spicy chicken but today I ordered the Hawaiian plate that had two items and I chose the spicy chicken and for something new I decided to try the grilled shrimp. Sometimes shrimp can be a little "too shrimpy" you know when it's got a very strong fishy shrimpy thing going on and it's not great but this was delicious! This comes with rice as well so I mixed some of the chicken and shrimp up in the rice together and it was a very satisfying meal. I also ordered the Thai iced tea today which I don't often drink because of the calories but it tasted good and I would definitely recommend it. Once again I have never been disappointed in anything here. My orders have always been right and the food is delicious. I absolutely love their salads and you can change them up every time with a different protein. I definitely don't think they have anything to worry about with the new place opening up across town because there is absolutely no comparison JJ Hawaiian BBQ is so much better! Highly recommended and I am extremely critical with my food reviews so you can trust that this was a delicious meal!

I make this statement based on only one bite of brisket, and a short conversation with the cooker/cutter today. I later learned his name is "Jim". Here's the story.... Yesterday, while waiting outside for my wife who was getting her nails done around the corner, I smelled that beautiful aroma which can only come from smoked meat done correctly. Not having time yesterday, we decided to check it out today. We found the source, a neon sign blazing red "Holy Smoke BBQ", which showed up in the window of a restaurant named Kuma Ramen. "'That's different". I said, and although we had just eaten, decided to check it out. After our initial look around the place, we decided, instead of getting an after dinner sample, to wait until we could come back and enjoy a sit down meal - probably tomorrow - and check out the full fare. Jim cemented my decision by sharing with me a bite of the brisket he was slicing on the board. Excellent! Excellent brisket! Tender, fat well rendered, juicy, flavorful, excellent brisket. Tomorrow we will go back with an appetite, for a full meal follow up, and a fuller review. I fully believe that, based on the single bite I enjoyed today, Holy Smoke will maintain the five stars I give it on that single bite. Okay. It's now Monday and my wife and I went back to Holy Smoke BBQ for a meal. Holy Smoke BBQ and Kuma Ramen are in the same spaces. Both are owned and operated by the same family. While Kuma has be there about a year, the BBQ has just been added this month. The BBQ menu is limited, only serving three meats: brisket, pork ribs and pork belly. Sides available were macaroni & cheese, chili, and . While only trying the Mac & cheese, which was very good with lots of cheese, we did have some of each meat. Brisket, as rep yesterday was excellent. The ribs, a bit salty for my preference, also were excellent. The pork belly was the best cooked I've had this side of Texas. The fat was rendered so perfectly, I enjoyed it immensely at about a 1-1 ratio with the lean. A nice surprise since I I seldom find pork belly that I can eat like that. The two BBQ sauces - homemade regular and spicy were excellent also even though the meats did not need any sauce added. I don't know how this spot would stand up against a full service Texas themed BBQ joint, but for Hanford - my five stars still stand!
