    Teriyaki Chicken Plate Lunch
    Daisy Z.

Looking for a plae to have lunch while charging my car and came across this place. Looks "new"- We only had lunch here; did not do wine tasting which is also offered. Small dining area - looks like mainly locals were dining here today. Server was very pleasant. We ordered the Teriyaki Chicken Plate lunch, Grilled Shrimp Plate lunch and the Seared Ahi wasabi dressing salad. The teriyaki chicken was hands down the best tasting dish. The teriyaki sauce was very yummy - lots of umami flavor. My picky son devoured his chicken - it was that good. My shrimp plate was just ok. Can't really go wrong with shrimp but there was nothing to the seasonings and I had a salad and rice to go with it. I would pass on ordering this next time. My husband ordered the Ahi salad. He loved the dressing onthe salad but felt the ahi tuna was just ok. We did nto order the special of the day - which was a Kalbi steak plate. It looked good. I would give this place another try next time I'm in the area to check out the other dishes offered.

This is a quick review for the smoked salmon musubi appetizer I tried over lunch while on a road trip. I only tried the smoked salmon musubi as an appetizer because of lunch plans, and it was not that great. I was told it was the most recommend appetizer so I went with it. It was also widely mentioned online so I felt fair to leave a review on just this one dish with the disclaimer that I do need to return to try other dishes. In my opinion, the rice was too mushy and it was not well contained in musubi or onigiri form. The smoked salmon was simply cooked salmon and didn't add much in flavor to the dish. There was egg in it which I appreciated but it didn't add to the flavor. There was a high amount of mayo in it as well, which would be ok if the mayo had more flavor or if there were other ingredients added to the flavor. I'll be back to explore other dishes! Service for a to go order was quick and friendly. Beautiful ambiance, classy and elegant. Tastefully decorated.

We stopped here unexpectedly and were so glad we did! The owners are so kind and helpful. They described dishes to us and our daughter really well. She ended up getting Mochiko Chicken and even tried Musubi -loved it! My husband raved about the Kalua Pork. I had the ribs but don't see the name online right now. We all loved our dishes so much! Fresh ingredients, a clean and bright restaurant! And to top it off, they also make their own wine which was also fantastic. We even got an extra bottle to take home.

Yum. Stopped in for dinner on a Thursday eve. The cashier up front was patient as we decided and as he explained a dish to us. We had a to go order for a party of 4 and food was ready within 20 minutes. I went with the grilled shrimp kale salad. The kale was perfect and the sweet onion dressing was so good. I just love a salad that is not boring and also satisfying, and this one was just that.

I Had a fantastic meal and a cold beer that was freshly brewed right there in house. There is a full wine bar located there at the restaurant that serves their own label along side a series of others. The spam masubi did not disappoint. Definitely worth stopping in for lunch or dinner! We got to meet the owner and learn about the journey from winery to restaurant to brewery and creating a space where all three passions come together! I'm absolutely going back to try one of the gourmet burgers and another ale ;)

Situated in downtown Atascadero next to Cielo and a block from the Carlton Hotel. Kula Hawaiian Kitchen serves delicious elevated Hawaiian dishes. The restaurant style is more modern with the light fixtures the only thing giving island vibes. James, our waiter, was very friendly and approachable and took good care of us. Our group ordered the lomi lomi salmon, salmon masubi, ahi poke, and the kula pork tacos. Every dish was delicious and plated nicely. The lomi lomi salmon was good. I enjoyed the edamame puree. The salmon masubi was delicious and I definitely recommend. It's very much a salmon onigiri with egg tomago in the middle and very delicious. I had the salmon poke. The salmon was so fresh and the nori tempura bowl was a great textural addition and made plating the poke very nice. The only suggestion I would make is to add a small bit of acid to balance umami of the dish and cut the fat of salmon. But delicious nonetheless. This is a solid choice if you want a finer than casual dining experience and craving Hawaiian/ Asian dishes.

Very tasty food and friendly service! Favorites were the Katsu spam musubi and the kale salad with grilled shrimp.

Super yummy fresh food. This is not your typical greasy Hawaiian food, it is full of flavor and healthy. It is higher end food, so the price reflex this. Great place to treat yourself.

WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE! Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Stacy was our server and she was extremely kind and made our experience so wonderful. The salmon musubi was the perfect appetizer. Flavorful and fresh. I ordered the teriyaki chicken for dinner and the teriyaki sauce had great flavor. Nice sized portions for each entree our table ordered. We will definitely return to this restaurant!

Fabulous new location here in the heart of Atascadero.

Absolutely thrilled for Chris and Ayako, and their helpful staff, on the Grand Opening of this new venue. Along with their roomy and ambient tasting room space, they have a fun and festive dining room area, and bar seating as well. And to pair along with their delicious wines is a full menu of Hawaiian dishes, each one as tasty as the next. We started with the Kula Viognier and Grenache Rose, and paired them nicely with the Smoked Salmon Musubi, Mahi Mahi Tacos with their house made mango salsa, Kalua Pork, Garlic Shrimp with Mango Salsa, and then to pair along with their Loco Moco, we paired that with the Kula Zinfandel. Looking forward to making this one of our regular dining spots. And with it being in the heart of Downtown Atascadero, we are so happy to have them along with our other favorites Carbon 6, Cielo, Mr. Q Restaurant, Trattoria di Luca and Wild Fields Brewhouse.

Yay, what a great new spot. Kula just opened a week ago, according to the owner. The indoor space is gorgeous- light and bright, with both a tasting room and restaurant space inside. We opted to sit on the patio with our pup for an early dinner, and found it to be really comfortable. We made a reservation via email, since according to their social media, they're still working on getting a menu and reservation system up online. Having moved to the Central Coast from Honolulu, we've been excited for these folks to open- it's refreshing to have something new and different in North County, the land of a million burger and taco joints. My husband and I opted to share a few items, so that we could try more of the menu. We started with the spam musubi, which was perfect- spam, scrambled egg, and rice wrapped in nori, and drizzled with a shoyu teriyaki sauce, green onion, and furikake. I had a glass of Kula Vineyards own rose, which was perfect for the warm evening. For entrees, we shared the garlic shrimp and loco moco. We both totally fell in love with the loco moco- the sweet onion gravy, over-easy egg, top-quality hamburger patty, and perfectly cooked rice were absolutely delicious and hearty (and nostalgic). The garlic shrimp dish was also fantastic- tons of garlic sauteed with huge prawns, a bed of rice, and a really refreshing, sweeter kale salad on the side with cranberries. In terms of service, we went in expecting some normal hiccups considering that they just opened, but our server did a really great job of keeping up with what seemed to be quite a few tables. We were really pleasantly surprised! The owners were also very actively pitching in, checking in with each table seeking feedback, offering to bring anything needed, and obviously just really getting involved in helping things to go smoothly. Super nice people, and it's obvious that they really care and are rolling their sleeves up alongside their staff. Our dog had a cozy little corner to hang out in by our table, and he took full advantage of the pedestrian-watching through the little patio fence. Great spot if you like to take your pup out and about. We'll be back very soon!

    Spam and Tamago

Thought we'd try Kula Hawaiian kitchen out and our experience is mixed. There's potential there as time goes, or I hope. 1st the owners were busy walking around serving selective customers, we're ok with that just never had that personal touch as his Beer maker or another couple had sitting near them. The noise... Too much activity going on as you walk in. The music, although nice was extremely overbearing and echoed throughout the entire restaurant, wasn't a pleasant ambiance for dinner. The place wasn't extremely busy, service did take longer with only one server. It appears the owners are more into pointing out how wonderful things are and catering to selective customers. We didnt care we were there to try the food. The Food, she ordered the Grilled Shrimp and Mango saunce and I ordered Spam musubi along with teriyaki chicken. The Spam was extremely bland other then the sauce. Too much rice/nori with small slice of Tamago and Spam. Just hard to work with. The chicken extremely dry, waited 10 minutes for additional teriyaki sauce hoping that was the fix. Nothing really to complain about the Shrimp other then dry. Discussed with the apologetic waitress who was extremely understanding the dissastification we had. She did ask if I wanted to speak to the owner, I told her politely no as he was too busy trying to Impress his Beer maker. Food needs work, service for one waitress 6-7 tables she was hopping. The noise, no way to fix a bar setting attached to a restaurant, it isn't designed for that loud of music. Pretty uneasy feeling while trying to eat. Seen a customer a few days later a d asked him how did he like the dinner. His response was, The wine was good.

Super attentive, genuinely hardworking, and honestly impressive. I ordered the crispy milkfish (the famous Filipino national fish), and my husband had the chicken skewers. The seasoning was slightly bold, but with rice it was perfectly balanced -- exactly how it should be. At the next table, a group ordered noodles and Crispy Pata. What a generous portion of the food! Let me just say: that pork leg looked like something a medieval barbarian would proudly feast on. Huge. Legendary. Easily enough for four people. This is not a "small portion" place. This is a come hungry, leave very full kind of place -- in the best way. We were curious about the ube ice cream, and they kindly treated us to it. A lovely surprise and a sweet ending. Bonus: Bible verses on the walls made the whole space feel warm and welcoming. Great food, generous portions, kind people. This feels like a place destined to succeed. We'll be back.

Could've stood there all day tasting those chips! They were each seasoned perfectly and the thicker Hawaiian cut made them irresistable! I came away with a bag each of the luau honey bbq and the salt and vinegar at $8 a bag. So delicious! Cary said the chips are sold mostly at farmers markets and they have them in the Bay Area.
