My friend ordered a bento box, chicken teriyaki with a California roll. And I ordered a Mexican monkey roll. The Mexican monkey roll was HUGE! I didn't expect it to be as much food as it was. I was in Hanford and my friend told me I had to try Samurai Sushi, so we went for lunch. The place is really big with plenty of seating, and we got seated super fast and were able to order right away, which I loved. Everyone there was super helpful and friendly. We started with the coconut sake and it was sooo good. They bring it out with two shot glasses, which was cute. If you like coconut, you'll definitely like this. We also tried the fried chicken gyoza and it was really good. I liked it a lot. We tried a few rolls and my favorite was the spicy tuna roll. It's simple, but the tuna tasted fresh and it had a nice kick. We also got a California roll, which was good, but the spicy tuna was definitely my favorite. We also tried the chicken yakisoba. It's a noodle dish with chicken and veggies and it was really good. Great flavor and the portion size was big enough to share. Overall, I'm really happy I tried this place. This is the best sushi place in Hanford! Starting off strong with their interior: tall ceiling, open space that feels filled yet not crowded. Comfortable booths, samurai themed decor, clean. Food: great! We had 4 rolls altogether. I was very satisfied with the amount of salmon in the Philadelphia roll. It was a fattier cut of salmon, so you have to chew it a bit more. The roll itself had a really nice full bite to it and tasted great. Our other rolls were equally as tasty! Easy bites, easy chews. Best flavor and bite we've found in Hanford. Drink: the Taro and the Matcha bubble teas were good. The boba itself was alright, almost comparable to a boba tea shop but not quite. The flavor profile of both drinks however was great! Hospitality: very friendly waitress! She had the nicest smile, she was patient and answered any questions we had. Service with a smile makes a huge difference in the dining experience. Not my first visit..... probably my last I've been to Samurai Sushi somewhere between 5 and 10 times since they opened. I kept going back.....hoping it'd eventually grow on me. The staff is always friendly, I'll give them that. But the service.....well, it can be a bit hit or miss. The restaurant is reasonably clean and has a pleasant atmosphere with the exception of the air conditioning. Thermostat is set too high and it stays a little warm inside the restaurant. My biggest issue has always been with the sushi itself. The texture and temperature.....they just don't feel right. The rolls always come out kinda soft, and they're never as chilled as I'd expect. Not warm exactly, but definitely not cold enough. The fish feels like it's missing that firm bite.....and the rice always seems a little too soft or packed down. Not horrible.....but definitely not what I'm used to. This last visit I got the Mexican Monkey roll.....and yeah, it was way bigger than I thought it'd be. I also got the spicy scallop roll with salmon. My wife ordered a different one, but I don't remember the name. We both ordered edamame. I got the spicy, she got the plain salted. Both were kinda mushy.....especially mine. The spicy edamame was so soft it was hard to eat. The husks were breaking apart in my mouth.....and it felt like chewing soggy string. Turns out that's usually a sign of overcooking. Edamame's already been blanched when frozen.....it only needs a quick steam. Cook it too long and it turns into the mess I had in front of me. Now I've seen plenty of people in town say they love this place. So maybe it's just me.....maybe my preferences are different. I'm not saying the place is bad. I'm saying it's just not for me. Pretty good first impression honestly! We got seated right away once a majority of our group showed up. I didn't catch our waitress's name but she was very attentive. I forgot to take a picture of my food but I had the baked salmon roll and would rate it a 8/10. Inside was nice and spacious. They also have high chairs available if needed. When we want sushi and don't want to go out of town for it, we come here. We have not had any issues with their sushi as it is always good. They are always busy being one of the few sushi spots around so the service isn't always the fastest. The workers are always nice though so we don't mind. The prices the for the taste is honestly unbeatable. I typically don have any problems with customer service at all. All the workers have been pleasant and attentive. It has more of a fast food restaurant feel not upscale at all but if you want you definitely can dress up. My favorite is the Langostino roll if I'm wanting something baked or the dragon roll if I'm wanting to dip it in soysauce mixed with wasabi. We met here with friends for dinner the other night. It is located in downtown Hanford which is pretty cute. The restaurant was pretty busy (it was a Saturday night) and it took a moment for us to be seated but it wasn't too long of a wait. The service was good, prompt and friendly. My wife suggested Japanese food for late lunch date on Friday. She said she recently tried this establishment a couple months ago and was impressed with their sushi rolls she ordered, however the service was fairly slow. My wife & I we like to support local businesses, so we decided we wanted to eat sushi rolls. So we both agreed to try them out! We've arrived there about 3:00 pm and waited in the front to be seated. The ambiance of the place seems pretty chill. Once we were seated they handed us the menu's. As we were browsing the menu, we already knew what we wanted to order and was waiting for the waitress to ask us if we wanted water or refreshments. There was another party who came after us when we arrived to this location and they already took their orders and brought refreshments and food? How is that they skipped us!?!? I hate to write bad reviews unless it's deserved but sorry to say their customer service sucks and basically went out the window! We literally waited for about 15 minutes and still no one asked if we wanted anything to drink. None of the employees seem to be attentive! My wife and I looked at each other in disbelief like wow.!! We just walked out of the establishment and just left disappointed! This isn't a hard one, they've lost our business. My wife and I won't be coming back again to support this establishment.
