I brought my Audi here at the recommendation of another, and I'm really glad I did. I had an intermittent misfire that was proving really difficult to track down and diagnose. Despite not being a designated 'Audi Shop', Yuri was already familiar with a lot of the common issues that tend to become problems on my car's platform, which was a pleasant surprise. He spent a lot of time talking through the process of elimination, possibilities, and explaining the root cause and possible diagnosis for each circumstance. I felt comfortable leaving my car with him for an extended time to track down the issue. Over the course of a few days and numerous tests (cylinder compression & leakdown tests, boroscoping, etc) he pointed to an intermittently bad injector as the likely cause. But what's more, in the course of troubleshooting he also discovered that my water pump was on the verge of failure. Most people would assume this to be a sneaky add-on tactic for more labor, but he was totally right. He even suggested a revised and improved part version to help prevent it from happening again in the future. One of the best things that others have mentioned, is he will save the bad parts until you come to pick up your car, and take the time to show you what, where, how, and why they failed. I am totally blown away by Kearny Mesa Autoworks' kindness and expertise! The owner's willingness to help despite the fact that they were already closed for the weekend says it all! Louri accurately diagnosed my car's issue within a matter of minutes and provided me with simple solutions which fixed my car and cost nothing. A true lifesaver and an honest, compassionate local business that deserves more than 5 stars! My car stalled on a Saturday after business hour and I started to panic big time because 1) nothing is open until Monday and 2) I am supposed to drive back to LA from SD on Sunday. I called every mechanics around the gas station I was parked at to try my luck, and the very few which were still open suggested me dropping off the car so they could exam it on Monday. When I called Kearny Mesa Autoworks, Louri, the owner, picked up right away even though he was in the middle of ordering dinner for himself... After discovering that they're closed, I hurried to thank him and was ready to dial the next mechanic. To my surprise, Louri asked me to describe the issues I am having and maybe he can help me out over the phone. I told him what car I have and that it was able to start but stalled after stepping on the accelerator. He asked what my fuel level was right away, and it was interesting because I didn't connect the dots at the time. I told him I actually was still parked in the gas station where I just filled up the tank, over-fueled as a matter of fact as I was trying to get the final dollar amount to an event number (worst habit)... Louri told me that might be the issues as the EVAP system doesn't have room to breath. He suggested me having the car idle for 30 minutes to consume some gas and see if that helps. If not, it might be a more serious fuel issue which will need to be properly diagnosed. So I did that while thinking about backup plans - do I tow the car to LA for $$$, or do I extend my stay in SD and cancel my prior obligations? Luckily, Louri's advice fixed my car! After having it idle for 30 minutes, my car stopped stalling and drove smooth!!! I cannot be more appreciated of Louri for helping out a stranger on the weekend over the phone! I it so great to find someone to trust! Yuri was recommended by friend who teaches auto repair at a Kearny Mesa college. My car was way overdue for a timing belt. I asked Yuri to keep me in the loop especially if he found something else. I took my car to him and in just a few minutes he found a crack in an upper motor mount. A few hours later he called to say the water pump has been leaking and the timing belt tensioner was not doing its job. He also was able to tell me many things that I did not know about the car. It is new to us (six months). It had been well taken care of until the owner got to the timing belt. The job can cost $1300 or more. Yuri charged far less. Well, the worst time to have your AC stop working may be in Arizona. We survived and when we got home I spoke to a friend who highly recommended this shop. I was in the market for a new mechanic so I got two things with this visit. First my AC is fixed and second I now have a new mechanic that I trust. Not only does Yuri spend extra time to explain exactly what he plans to do, he keeps you informed of where he is in the process and shows you all the parts he removed. I took my 1973 Jaguar to Kearny Mesa Autoworks for some fuel related issues. After doing a diagnostic, they explained to me what was wrong and how they intended on repairing it. I was given a written estimate and I agreed to have the work done. What I liked most is that Yuri was excellent about giving me updates on the phone about how the repairs were going. Everything was completed in a timely fashion and the final total was actually lower than the estimate! I really enjoyed how the explained to me what they did and why. He took the time to explain things in a manner which made me feel comfortable about what he was doing for me. He told me a few things to be on the look out for and I will have no issue bringing my car back when the time comes. It is rare to find a mechanic that treats you with respect and explains to you what is happening and why. I even noticed after getting home that they even did a little something extra. I had installed my own battery and could not get the secure bar to hold it in place. They correct the bar and secured my battery the way it should have been. My motor had started sounding bad on my '06 Scion and I knew it was more than just being due for a tune up and oil change. Yuri and Greg were great. They got me in, popped the hood and gave me a pretty detailed explanation of what I needed and why, pulling out parts and showing me where the problem was; In this case a leaking water pump and spark plugs in need of replacement. When the car was up on the lift, Yuri called me back onto the shop floor several times to show me things the collision repair company had done to cut corners. I've never had someone take the time to tell me what was going during a car service so I asked him if there were other things he could recommend I have done while my car was up on the lift. He gave me a short list and a cost/benefit explanation of each based on how long I planned to keep the car, so I went ahead with the transmission service and fuel injection service (something like that).
