I was in Van Nuys and I know there are a lot of good Mexican spots around here but I am skeptical of the middle eastern places here. Came in today and a young man greeted me at the register. I didn't know what one of sides on the lunch special was, so he kindly brought me a sample. It was actually good but I decided to go with the hummus and pilaf. Our family tried this restaurant based off reviews over the weekend and the food and experience overall was horrible, overpriced and customer service was lousy. We ordered a few items from the menu and the two dishes that were the worst out of all of the items that we had ordered was the Chikufte and Lule Kebabab, which both were garbage and waste of our money. I definitely would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Please do yourself a favor, save your money and go to another Middle Eastern Restaurant. read more

Discovered this place recently from a coworker. Really enjoyed the food so I brought my mom who also really enjoyed the food. The only drawback is that we were the only table so we were ignored the whole time. We just had our waitress come to our table and take our order and then later on bring our food. We didn't have anyone check on us or ask if we needed anything. I had to make my way to the servers twice to ask to order a side dish and for more water. Kebab kebab kebab! If you haven't notice the word of the day is Kebab. Kebab Halebi makes one of the best juiciest kebabs I've had in a very long time. The resturant is situated in a small plaza/ strip mall on Sherman way just a few steps from Sepulveda Blvd. The parking is congested but manageable. The resturant is clean and has plenty of seating for dine in. The menu is very straight forward with chicken of beef kebab and lule. There is also a lunch menu that I would recommend going with if your in the area between 11- 3pm. The chicken kebab is served with rice pilaf or choice of hummus. The chicken kebab is really cooked tenderly and keeps lots of juiciness in each bite; Same goes for the beef kebab. I tend to go for the lule just because I like the way it's prepared with different spices and ground beef mixed to give you a delicious skewer with great taste. The services is great especially with Janet; she's very attentive and you don't have to chase down your waiter at all. If you are in the vicinity I would recommend giving Kebab Halebi a try, you won't be disappointed. read more

I decided to give Kebob Helebi a try for take-out over the weekend. The restaurant is located inside a strip lot on corner of Sherman Way/Sepulveda Blvd. The dining area is divided into two small sections. Red draperies, maple tables, cushioned seating, overhanging sconces, wood beams ceilings give it a cozy and modern feel. I walked in the door and wasn't greeted. I sought for a friendly and welcoming face. Instead, I had to make the first verbal contact. I told the gentleman behind the counter that I was ordering to go and he looked at me with odd look of surprise expecting me to dine in. My order was finally taken, deciding on the chicken breast kabob and beef kabob plate. Both modestly priced at $15 each. It was ready in reasonable time and portions were ample. The rice was packed in separate containers. Grilled tomatoes, seasoned onions, pickled cucumber, cabbage and pita bread was included with my meal. All were average, not that bad. Both the chicken and meat were tender and flavorful. The garlic sauce that accompanied it was a nice compliment. My one main critique was that their rice wasn't basmati, but instead was rice pilaf (aka Uncle Bens). I actually prefer basmati for its delicious flavor, fluffier texture and sensuous aroma. A main staple in most Middle Eastern cuisine. It had hint taste of coconut which I thought was odd. I guess overall I was expecting a little more with all the positive reviews. I don't know if I would get it again based on the fact it was over $20 - but still - it was good. I also got a nut based spread - Mouhamara Dip. It was sweet yet subtle. A very enjoyable experience. Been craving this place for weeks now. Went last Monday only to realized they are closed on Monday. So we finally went today. Dinner was pretty good. I got the half chicken and half beef. A few pieces of my chicken was a little dry. My friend ordered half chicken and half lamb. We paid $18 per plate and total came out to exactly $41. So, I looked at the bill and said to my friend "are you sure?" "With tax and eveything it came out exactly $41?" Then, I see a "non cash adj fee." I questioned what that was and the waitress kept saying, "oh I can give you a discount if you have cash." I said, "no I didn't ask you that, I asked you why did you charge me extra without my knowing?" She then said, "it's okay I'll give you $2 back." I'm okay with people charging a credit card fee. BUT you have to disclose it to the customers. It's really fishy to me that this fee was $1.58 making the total exactly $41 with tax. I don't know if I even want to come back anymore. SO GOOD! I had never tried Middle Eastern food so I had no idea what I was coming in for. Ordered the beef and chicken shish kebab, rice and hummus. It was so good! Tried this place after seeing a youtube video saying this was one of the best mediterranean places to eat. First, parking is terrible. The restaurant is really clean, was greeted by a really nice, friendly older lady. Service was slow (for three tables that hadnt been serviced) Was very disappointed because their luleh kebabs, although they tasted delicious, were very small. Was expecting a min 10x1x1 inch long luleh but instead got two-6"x1"x1/2" luleh. Thats very small (like lady fingers) compared to the ones we usually get from kebab station, massis, zankou or knights at burbank. The rice was also disappointing because it was plain white rice drenched in butter instead of basmati. You'll get more for your money elsewhere, nothing special here. read more

I googled this business and noticed that my brother-in-law had left a great yelp review. I called him up and he told me it was one of the best food he has ever tried. I went yesterday and had their lunch special which was only around $12, and I must say it is one of the best food I've ever had as well as for a great price for a lot of food!Andrew my server was nice ,kind ,polite ,professional ,attentive and awesome! Hit and miss place. Sometimes the lamb is all 90% meat and juicy, and sometimes it's 60% fat/gristle and 40% meat. I bring this up because this really is a nice restaurant with GREAT food but I believe they sometimes give customers ANYTHING to fulfill the order. Sometimes I rate this place a 5 stars, but sometimes 1 star because of what I mentioned. I would rather eat at the adjacent shopping center at Fresh Mediterranean Grill where they are 100% spot on all the time. I will start off by saying that I find it a little pricey, nothing crazy, but I will continue to order from this place for as long as I live in Van Nuys. The quality of the food is absolutely delicious. The meats all have an amazing flavour, never dry, and not oversalted, oily, or overseasoned. I've had the steak....AMAZING. I've had the luleh kebab, chicken, adana kebab, chicken thigh. All incredibly delicious and flavourful. I love their armenian salad....yum. Not to mention their service is wonderful. They are always friendly, attentive, and wonderful. By now...they know my face there. I've only had take away, but everything always arrives very fast and hot. Their rice pilaf is fantastic, so are the wraps-generously portioned. I ordered lunch for my job one day and I couldn't believe it barely took any time to make everything ready. It was sooo much food for just 8 of us, we wound up having everything in party trays.....my coworkers loved it so much everything was surprisingly gone. Everyone had 2nds and thirds. After reading about the Syrian food here, we decided to try this place for dinner. The waitress was extremely kind to us and made sure we were doing well. We had the mouhamara dip, ras nana patty, and the ashta custard. Surprisingly, our favorite part of the meal was the mouhamara dip, which was made of red peppers, crushed wheat, pomegranate, cumin, walnut, and pine nuts. It had a little kick and was fairly rich. Though, the pita bread seemed very average. While I did like the ras nana because it had some crispy charred outsides and was a very large patty, the pool of juice it was served in was really sour. However, the sour juice helped ease the lamb flavor. Plus, the dish was served was some really buttery delicious rice. The biggest disappointment was the ashta custard. It looked great and the fruits and honey helped, but the white custard itself was bland. It wasn't sweet or flavorful at all, and it wasn't as creamy as you'd expect a custard to be. Overall, the food was pretty good and our waitress was great, but I wasn't a huge fan of what we had. read more

Amazing. Stopped in for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. To start off the service was great. All of the staff were friendly and continuously checked on me.
