The chunky potato fries were cooked to perfection, but the Roasted Eggplant (baboon) stole the spotlight--prepared tableside and paired with crispy za'atar pita chips, it's a must-order. I have never felt so welcome and been greeted and treated with such hospitality as the owners and team of Arais. From the minute I stepped in, to a place I've never been I usually tell people that so I can get the recommended items on the menu. I was met with great friendliness and was given pointers on the hot items. So I ordered just about all of them to give it a try I was very surprised with the amount of sides that came, each added their own unique flavor. The eggplant and cauliflower taboon came out looking beautiful, and tasted even better. Extremely tender, flavored with great spices and sauce, it was a great starter to the arais to come. I got lamb and beef, and both were incredibly juicy seasoned great, the salad with it was a great refresher, I mean seriously no complaints with any of this food it was amazing. I'm so glad I found this spot because it was ridiculously good. I've eaten at Miznon and Saffy's and I was hoping Arais would live up to them, and it did not disappoint. I've never had an Arais before so I was intrigued. It's basically like a chicken, herby meatball baked into a pita. The two sauces included tahini and chimichurri. It gets its name and style of cooking simple Israeli food, from the famous market, of the same name, in Jerusalem. Important to note that Arais (Arayes), is actually a street food. Essentially, a homemade small triangular pita, stuffed with succulent meat, then freshly baked on a continuous rotating large plate, at the center of a gas fire clay oven called the "taboon". The menu here is very basic, but high in quality, ingredients and freshness. There are also other offerings. The owner is charming and most welcoming to all the patrons. Yes, there is love and affection. He has personality, that you hardly ever see in any restaurant. Providing complimentary tastings of his items, while you wait for their preparation and production, to go. In my case, small portions of the warm garbanzo beans with freshly made (silky and smooth) hummus, then pickles and onions, also with dipping. Both fantastic. If you do not get Arias when you are here, you are missing the point, or maybe in the wrong place. My choice was Lamb Arias, to go. 4 crisp and charred triangular pieces fresh off the taboon, accompanied with regular and green tahini sauces, and a small, unimpressive tomato onion salad ($26). The lamb meat was juicy, well seasoned and cooked perfect. Also, as a side, I added the Potatoes "Medura" ($7). This was truly amazing. Thick longitudinal wedges, well browned on the outside and soft on the inside. Overall, an unforgettable experience. I think I may have found my new favorite restaurant. I only ordered to go, but it absolutely blew me away. I was immediately greeted by the nice girl up front-- super friendly, super helpful, and really sweet! She explained the menu thoroughly and recommended Ribeye Arais and their french fries. Yesterday was my first visit with my friend who has been here twice before and is on a mission to try every dish here because she loves the food, atmosphere and service so much. The owner Izhak (Isaac), and the newer employee Omar, were so nice to us and even gave us a sample of something we weren't ordering this time plus a sample of one of the potato sides that we didn't order just so that we could see how different they were, and both were delicious! My friend and I ordered a chicken breast pita sandwich and a beef Aries meat pie. Both of those were fantastic, as well as both kinds of potatoes that they were so generous with. We also ordered the Taboon Cauliflower which was divine! The tahini and parsley oil dips, and all the garlic and everything are sensational! Even beautifully pickled onions and lots of tasty little complimentary snacks, salads and sides that come with your meals. They even brought us complimentary mint tea at the end which was really appreciated because we were so full of yummy food! All the little nuances, tastes, herbs, fresh food and flavors are amazing at this restaurant! Food heaven! The atmosphere is like you're at home with family, and my friend and I just love it there. Great new place for Israeli food. You get greeted by the owner who has awesome vibes and happy to tell you about the must-try items. I tried Ribeye Arais, which was phenomenal. It's essentially a pita with some sauce grilled to perfection with the juiciest lula-style ribeye beef that I've ever had. Unreal marinade gave out a lot of savory flavor notes and you could truly taste the essence of that juicy ribeye. The pita itself was crisped to perfection. A marriage of textures of the crispy pita and the succulent tender ribeye was truly a union of souls, as ironic as it is for California. Just awesome! Arais was also accompanied by a grilled spicy pepper and a very refreshing diced tomato salad. In addition, my friend really loved his vegetarian dish that I can't name and my side of fried potatoes was worthy as well.
