A friend and I stumbled across this great find the other night. Its small but don't let that fool you on how amazing the food is. We really enjoyed the food...it was fresh, good quality of product and the service and atmosphere was truly authentic and the portions were more then adequate! I am so glad we found this place and I will definitely be back over and over again as long as they keep it up! I haven't found a Mediterranean place I like more. Their meat is sooo tender and thinking about their rice is all it takes to make me slobber. I've been a customer for years and recently threw an anniversary dinner at Kebab Halibi. We were able to use their new space which was a nice bonus. We fit 45 people in the new space . I wouldn't recommend more than that if you want comfortable spacing for guests and room for an easy flow of service. Everything was flawless and I'm so thankful for the entire team for all their help in making the evening perfect. Narine helped with the coordination and listening to my wants. Jose, Janet, and Nate helped execute and made the room look awesome and were super accommodating to all the guests. It was the first time for most of the 45 guests to dine at Kebab Halibi and they all raved about the food and service. Koko and his team in the kitchen (especially Jan and Mike) never disappoint and they just gained a whole lot of new customers. Let me first say, that I don't normally eat middle eastern food but I have to say that the food here has made me- change my ways, if you will. I was sold when I found out that Serj Tankian (of Armenian descent) of the band System of the Down, visited this place in a shopping center in Van Nuys. Since I am getting older, I'm trying to eat healthier diet so Kebab Halebi was the perfect choice for dinner. I was told that the recommended items were any of the top 4 kebab items. I decided to get the chicken and beef kebabs. The time from ordering and receiving the dishes was very quick. They promptly delivered a plate of pickled vegetables which consisted of a large chili, cabbage, turnip and cucumber. Not so long later, they brought over the kebabs covered in pita bread with a side of onions topped with sumac. A moment later, they brought a plate of rice pilaf. Both kebabs were perfectly flavored, but not the best I've had. Some pieces of the beef were tender and some were a bit chewy. The chicken was delicious, but not as juicy as I've had as Alcazar. They also gave me a side of garlic paste which was one of the strongest flavored I've ever had. If you love garlic, you will love their version. It has more of garlic kick than what you'll find at any other restaurant. A great kebab option if you live in the Valley and want to try a Armenian-Syrian restaurant. read more

It is food that is made with the best quality and everything from the salad to dessert and everything in between is absolutely delicious. There is not one item on the menu you can receive and regret because it all just works together so well. The daily specials you can get now are not only a deal, but they are amazing. Just when you think you've had the best Mediterranean food ever at a small strip mall restaurant in North Hollywood, your dear friend from Beirut, Lebanon takes you to another small strip mall restaurant some six miles west that could be the best food from this region you have ever had, thus you have Kebab Halebi! When a restaurant is wall to wall packed with (what looks like) happy diners enjoying their food and in a warm friendly environment it doesn't get much better than this. So, I've set the scene for soon to be scrumptious dinner. And here it comes: A relish plate arrives with radishes, green peppers, pickle, pita bread and an order of hummus. Yeh, it got real good from the get go. Then our entrees soon followed with and a Mediterranean sirloin, chicken kebab and a ground beef and lamb combo that was just flat out delicious. We had rice as good as any rice I've ever had and an Armenian salad so fresh and crunchy just kicked this meal into the stratosphere. I am lost for words... I just left and couldn't wait to write a review. The waitress Janet is super nice and friendly service was superb. Now on to the food.... Appetizer we ordered Hummus it was excellent then Ordered 1 plate filet beef and 1 combo plate (chicken and lulu kebab) the filet and chicken was very fresh and tender with marinated spices that I have never had anywhere else. This course was accompanied by rice, pita bread, salad and pickles. I took pictures of all the dishes please enjoy. And fir the grande finale the Ashta which is an Arabic dessert our version of a flan. Rockin Raffi's recommendation at this point everything will be perfect here. read more

Armenian done right! Best side dishes: Muhabara! which is the dark red thing... Supposedly made of crushed nuts bread crumbs and pomegranate. Baba ghanoush... Some of the best I've ever had. Also we had a turkey made special for thanksgiving and holy cow the seasoning was magical. But supposedly their meats are kosher... Kosher Armenian food? What is this, Jerusalem? Solid. We made a reservation, when we arrived they didn't have any tables so we waited 30 minutes, when a table opened up they told us that they just needed to clean it. Then a party came in they just gave them the table and they did NOT have a reservation. They then tried to put us outside. They is no one sitting outside because its 48 degrees. Spent over $110 bucks on lunch for two and it was THE WORST experience I've had to date. We've been coming here for years and were always big fans. We place large orders for family take-out on holidays. The food has always been good to great and on occasion, outstanding. The last couple of times were terrible but the last lunch I had was the last time I will ever eat here. The babaganoush was thick, pasty, and so overly salted it tasted as if someone accidentally dumped a ton of salt in that batch...so toxic tasting. It didn't have any eggplant flavor whatsoever. When I complained to the waiter (which I never do as the food is normally great), he argued with me and was combative then offered to bring me humus. I said, "humus is not babaganoush" but he just stared at me with a blank face. The meat smelled funny. The lamb kebab had an unusually ripe smell to it like it was old meat that they grilled and served anyway instead of throwing it out. The chicken kebab was so dry the kebab would turn to sawdust as you cut into each piece. We ordered a new chicken skewer so as not to send back the whole dish and they brought out more dried chicken. Some of the pieces were rubbery and grissley in texture. This was an absolute catastrophe of a lunch. I still paid the bill and that was the most disgusting lunch this place ever served. We ended up eating a bit of rice, and some salad and had our drinks but most everything was left behind. We will never go back and I will never recommend this place as I have to so many people. I'm even spreading the word to friends and family to steer clear of this place. read more

The food is different than Armenian food and I think it regional from Lebanon or Iraq, (probably got this wrong) which is great if you feel you've become tired of the 'sameness' typical of Mediterranean food, boring to the max. Liked: Tabbouleh- more tomatoes than usual but very good Hummus-excellent Babaganoush- different again chunkier texture, very good Chikufte- partner said it's very good and certain it was made on the spot as we had to skip an ingredient Eggplant kebab- plenty for 2 specially if you already had appetizers Chicken thigh kebab- recommended by other Yelpers too For the food above plus ordered food to go, 3 appetizers and a salad, one desert; bottle of Pellegrino and the total bill was $100 And because we were the last table before closing I noticed the owner/server cleaning each table with fresh Lysol wipes and I liked that a lot. Stumbled onto this place on a Saturday. Nice & clean, about 30% full. Ordered kebabs (thigh for me, breast for my lunch companion) plus hummus. Got a condiment plate and pita to start. The kebabs came with rice, roasted tomato, garlic paste & more pitas. The chicken may be the BEST I've eaten in recent memory. Very tender & juicy. Truly excellent. Portions were so large, we ended up taking more than half home. If not family staffed, it certainly feels like it is. Friendly, attentive service. Review for Take Out: Hubby picked up a ton of food from here so read my review knowing that there was a 30minute carride home which may have effected the overall experience.... That said - the chicken kebab was tasty! Too often kebabs are dried out but these were moist and delicious. The ground beef kebab was ok - a bit lacking in spices / flavor to me. Then big disappointment was the rice actually. It was extremely bloated and overcooked (hence why I prefaced this review with the 30 min carride home bc MAYBE the rice sitting in the heat made the rice bloated...who knows?). It all came with a ton of pickles and pita which were standard to me. Overall, definitely a place worth eating at but perhaps take out isn't the best option if you want to experience the goodness in its full effect. read more

Terrible, inattentive service and weak, minimally- seasoned food. STAFF/SERVICE: First, I walked in and every staff member (at least 10 employees on the floor and no customers) stared rather than welcoming me. Secondly, one of the staff members refused to make a small modification to a menu item that I had requested. Third, I waited at the register for an extensive amount of time before someone finally decided to ring me up. To which, one of the female staff members was on her break and one of her co-workers asked her to help me but she rudely responded, "I'm still on my break. You help her," as she buried herself in her phone. I totally understand the logistics of breaks but at the very least, she could have acknowledged me and politely say "Thank you for your patience. Someone will be with you in a moment." I didn't expect her to work on her break but I also didn't appreciate the negative, unwelcoming energy. I honestly reconsidered taking my business elsewhere.
