Keifers is located right by the hospitals in an old house. We stopped by for a Friday lunch and it was incredibly difficult to get a parking spot or a table. That being said, our food came out quickly and everything was delicious. Popular at the table were the gyro, chicken gyro, pita mozz, and cottage fries. Keifer's is SUCH a Jackson staple. Definitely worth a visit. They have tasty gyros on the warmest fluffiest pita bread. Their hummus is great and beer is cheap. Cottage fries are crucial - they slice the potato only in one dimension so you have fries that are just a big slab. Gyros down to a science. Any place that serves a whole potato drizzled in peanut oil and battered in a home brew is worthy of praise. Moreover, any place that provides its own house sauce to accompany them deserves even more praise. Well, friends and neighbors, Kiefers deserves all the praise you can muster. Regrettably, I am not a Greek foodie nor fan. Social norms demanded that I accept a lunch invitation here. My only connection to Greece was the endearing uncle Jesse Katsopolis. The naked fear of a perceived missed lunch opportunity washed over me and saturated me with passive aggression. Recalcitrant as ever, I sat down and peered at the menu (1 sheet--2 sided). Touche young man. Do I like simple menus?--Damn straight. I fear lamb meat--the traditional ingredient of gyros. Feasting over lambs seems so ancient and somewhat occultish, if not Biblical. "What will we be having today?" The prompt waiter took me by surprise. My eyes rapidly scanned and I saw the words, "Beef and Cheese." "Let us upset the Hindus and not the new age pagans" I thought as I snickered inwardly. Safety first. Minutes later, I saw a funny thing laid before me. A warm bread blanket encapsulated a furious mix of white-hot (literally white- I think its mozzarella) cheese, shredded steak (sear marks apparent), and a glorious amount of onions and peppers. The blanket was barely appropriate. Cautiously yet coyly, I probed it with my fork as it bellowed up hot steam. It smelled like onions and sex. The first bite burned me and I cast it back down to its greasy parchment paper blanket. Damned hot-pocket rookie mistake 101. The second bite was the reward. I suspended a 3 foot cheese bridge between my own mouth and the funky little burrito looking thing before it ripped. This is that string-cheese ritual that we all crave from pizza as preached by their commercials and as practiced by that one scene on your old 101 Dalmatians VHS tape (in that plastic box). Essentially, this weird little burrito unfolded and I was mesmerized. I consumed the rest of it in a primal rage. I became a friend and lover of Keifer's ever since. Meanwhile, I noticed that the large home-fried and reddish/orange potato slices cooling. They looked back at me jealously. A damn good cut of fries seemed so distant in light of my steamy encounter with that funky new burrito looking gyro. I dunked the first one in catsup (not ketchup) instinctively. I was home. I dunked the second in this white little sauce in a small tin. The house "Fetta sauce." I became an addict of Fetta sauce that day. All for under $15.00. Categorizing it as a cheap thrill would be cheap. I was introduced to a life-altering experience and reacquainted with an old friend for under $15.00. I'd pay $25.00. Does Keifer's deliver? The first place I that comes to mind when I think of Greek food in the city. Keifer's has been my immediate go to on so many occasions when I could not decide what I wanted to eat, I always order the same chicken gyro and if I'm feeling indulgent I'll add the potato 'fries'. The pita bread is amazing and I often order it just to nibble on later in the day. If you have been in the city for more than a month and have not visited this established Jackson spot I am judging you harshly. Well, not too much. The service must be pretty quick because there were so many people in the kitchen cooking as it was busy for lunch. Interesting and popular. I was passing through Jackson for work and decided to use the On The Road app from food network. This place was visited by Cat Cora, so I decided to give it a try. Cat knows great Greek food. Located next to a hospital, it gets crazy at lunch time. Ask for a menu up front, then seat yourself. The salad with Feta dressing was stupendous. It's seriously good dressing. The open face Gyro was very tasty. Was it earth shatteringly good? No. I prefer the feta dressing to their tsiki sauce and wish I had asked for more. The meat was savory and hand carved as real gyro should. It was a very good meal, and I recommend. They only lost a star for serving generic condiments like monarch ketchup. My review is kinda petty. I went in because I've heard amazing things about Keifer's. I got the gyro and cottage fries to go. My order was ready really fast! The portions are really generous. The gyro was overstuffed. I liked the fries. My issue was with the construction of my gyro. The tzatziki sauce was on the bottom. They are wrapped in paper, so you'd kinda ruin it to unwrap and redistribute everything. So even though the ingredients were good, the first half was dry. I could have still unwrapped it and fixed it, but I wanted perfection. :-( read more

I don't even like lamb, but their lamb gyros is so delicious. Their bread is nice and chewy, just the right texture. It's just a tad pricey, they sometimes put way too much yogurt and the service can be slow at times. Other than that, they're almost perfect =) read more

Great Greek food, but get here early - it will fill up at lunch! We love going to Keifers! The food is good, and they have traditional Greek food (gyro) or Greek/American food (chicken or hamburger in a gyro). Seat yourself and they will come and take your order. Try the pita bread or the big cut fries as an app as you struggle to order (lots of good choices!). Prices are very reasonable, this is a fun, no-nonsense restaurant. The staff are SUPER friendly and aim to please, and lines can get long, so be patient. The food is worth it, so give it a shot! Note, this is a seat yourself restaurant, and it fills to capacity at lunch. If you can't find a place to park, park in the Hospital ramp next door! read more

In Jackson, most restaurants offer similar dishes by delivering a chicken selection, a red meat selection, a seafood selection, etc. The food here is a good detour from the norm. Been eating here on and off for 25 years. Good food, but the attitude and care of the waiter left much to be desired. Not a busy night. Was told to sit anywhere and they would bring us a menu. The waiter walked by three times, even making eye contact, but to no acknowledgement of my existence. He was too busy counting his tip from the other table.
