In the past I've gone to them for smaller things and they been helpful, but this was an experience. Come Monday when we drove past in the morning and evening our car still hadn't moved and we never received a call for an update. I assumed they were swamped and just busy, so I said that I would give them a call the next day to see about the progress. Fast forward the next morning I gave a call and was told that the mechanic would call me by the afternoon to give me an update. The day passed and at 4 pm my wife had driven passed their shop and informed me that our car had been moved. I hadn't received a call and thought it was strange that I haven't received any notification since I had my number down as the contact. After I was done with work at 5 pm we drove down to talk with them face to face to see the update. My wife had told me she called them earlier that afternoon, herself, and a guy said that the car had been done for a bit. This is when things went down hill in my opinion of this place. The gal that assisted us was nice and when she informed us that our serpentine belt was fixed I was thrilled, but then she mentioned that there was something wrong with the pulley. I didn't know there was anything else wrong and this is how the conversation went. Her, "No one told you about the pulley?" Me "No." Her "No one called you to give you an update?" Me "No," Her "One of the guys told me today that they called you at your number." Me "I didn't receive a call. We are only down here because my wife said she was the one that called and was told that our car had been done for awhile." Her "I've been here all day and kept reminding those guys to call you about your call and one of them even told me they had called you at your number." Me "I never received a call, my wife was the one who had to call." The gal apologized so much to us and gave us a discount off of our repairs, which was nice. The car itself runs fine, but the windshield wiper fluid cap was off and the brake light stays on, even though the emergency brake isn't on. So after this experience, it was going to be a 3 star but thinking a little more about it now I'll put it at a 2 star due to being told that we would receive a call twice and never did, along with the fact of the gal telling us that someone told her that they had called us to notify about the car, which they never did. Hopefully the rating can be raised in the future.

At one point I could no longer unlock the Driver's side door from the outside or inside as the long metal arm between the locking peg and the lock itself broke off. No one made or sold that part anymore. I thought I'd have to finish my last year without a car, and then my first couple paychecks after that trying to get a newer one. The mechanics at Mitchell machined a new part and then installed it for about $20. The car saw me through commissioned officer training in the Air Force, and my young family to our first duty station on the East Coast. I'll always be grateful to Mitchell's for going beyond expectations, and at the same time being super understanding of where I was in my life, how needed the car was, and how limited of a budget I had.

Went back to the shop, the owner called the mechanic into his office who told him that it was broken before he worked on it. Which didn't make any sense, because it wasn't broken, and also the gas gauge is literally attached to the fuel pump that they replaced. The owner then said that he believes his mechanic and that it is basically their word vs mine. But said that he would be willing to charge the hours of labor getting to the fuel pump to "take a look at it" and charge me for the "new" repair and labor costs. If the gauge was really broken, wouldn't they have charged me to fix it or at least notify me of it, while they already had the car torn apart? Sounds like the mechanic didn't want to be responsible for a huge expense due to his mistake, and the owner wasn't willing to eat the costs for the fuel gauge they broke. Dishonest at best. Very sad that they choose to destroy trust and a life long customer over a couple hundred dollars.
