Went back to the shop, the owner called the mechanic into his office who told him that it was broken before he worked on it. Which didn't make any sense, because it wasn't broken, and also the gas gauge is literally attached to the fuel pump that they replaced. The owner then said that he believes his mechanic and that it is basically their word vs mine. But said that he would be willing to charge the hours of labor getting to the fuel pump to "take a look at it" and charge me for the "new" repair and labor costs. If the gauge was really broken, wouldn't they have charged me to fix it or at least notify me of it, while they already had the car torn apart? Sounds like the mechanic didn't want to be responsible for a huge expense due to his mistake, and the owner wasn't willing to eat the costs for the fuel gauge they broke. Dishonest at best. Very sad that they choose to destroy trust and a life long customer over a couple hundred dollars.

My daughter picked up the car at closing only to find the cost was higher than the verified quote and now the check engine light was on. They diagnosed it as the thermostat had now failed and it would be several hundred dollars more. When I asked how this happened as it was working fine when we brought it in they said it must have happened as they put in the new water pump. We asked what can be done, and they offered to help with the repair. When I asked for a quote of how much it would be they took several days to get back to us and then said Mike their manager said they won't help on the price of the repair and it's still going to be several hundred dollars more. So disappointed with the lack of integrity in this place. Better to go somewhere else where they will honor their quotes and stand behind their work.

The car saw me through commissioned officer training in the Air Force, and my young family to our first duty station on the East Coast. This particular occurrence was by happenstance or divine intervention (you decide) because I didn't even know something was wrong with my car. Dave happened to pass by me outside a lovely eating establishment in Provo while my car was still running and I was standing by it. He kindly mentioned that he noticed my valves needed loosening. Obviously I knew exactly what he meant (no, I knew nothing of what he meant!) but he offered to look at my car for free at his shop just down the street. After taking advantage of the free service, my car indeed needed a fix including the timing belt that was on it's last string. I feel like it was a blessing in disguise that he stopped me that day or the fix my car needed could've been much worse. Long story short, he took the car for 3 days, fixed all my issues, charged me a fair price, and even lent me a loaner car for free while it was in the shop.
