In March someone checked my tooth #19, Said it had a crack and cannot saved. On April 7, I paid $300 to ask Dr Keivan Zoufan for second opinion. He took 3D and told me he can do root canal and save the tooth. On April 12, Dr Zoufan finished my tooth root canal and told me the crack was treatable, and took an circle on the picture. He asked me take 1 week medicine and made an appointment on April 19 to remove the temp filling and do permanent filling. He also told me when do the crown, it don't need post. He said the root canal has almost done, I must paid the full price of $1611. So I paid. Because my tooth #19 still pain on April 19, the appointment postponed. On April 23, the tooth #19 generated abscess. So I went dental office. Dr Zoufan said the tooth need extract. It was big shock to me. On May 12, I visited another dentist. He took a X ray and said he cannot find the trace of root canal treatment. Please see the X ray, Today June 26, my tooth #19 does not paint and can eat, but still has temp filling. Dr Zoufan is the real deal. It's the definition of excellence & kindness. At the beginning, I actually first went to a different endodontist to get a consultation about an infection in an existing root canal. The entodontist explained that they would do the entire process in one visit. This means that to take care of the infection they would place the antibiotics inside the tooth and then seal it with a temporary filling in the same visit. They clarified that there's a chance the treatment won't work, and should that happen I would need to completely replaced the tooth. Then she inquired twice if I wanted to avoid all of this risk, and just replace the tooth now and save me money. Ummm.... Neither of these options sounded great. I wanted to fix the infection and keep my tooth till I am 80, thank you very much. Anyways, this whole approach didn't feel right. I decided to seek another endodontice opinion before l make a decision that might cost me my front tooth. I told my husband the story and he excitedly recommended Dr Zoufan for a second consultation. Let me tell ya... I've never seen anyone get emotional about their dentist, so I obviously ...I had to see what the fuss was all about... Apparently, you can't just go to another consultation unless your dentist gives you a referral for that specific clinic. So, I had to call my dentist and ask for another referral, which they were more than happy to provide. By the way, my insurance covered both consultations and x-rays involved - no problem! My first observation of the clinic was that the equipment that Dr. Zoufan uses for taking X-ray, was far superior and more advance than any dentist or specialist I have been to lately. That was already a major brownie point! Moreover, when I asked about his approach to treating the infection I had in that tooth, I found his method to be much more cautious and carefully planned. Basically, he split the treatment into two visits: 1) visit 1: open the existing root canal and insert antibiotics 2) visit 2: re-open and see if the infection is healed. If it didn't , I guess he would continue treatment till it's gone to ensure 100% success - genius! If it did - place the filling and finish the treatment. Guess who I picked... duh! The day of the root canal (about a week after the consultation), he explained that I don't have to have anesthesia, since the root canal already existed and there will be slight discomfort but no pain. I still had the option to get the shot, which he explained some people prefer. I guess some folks really do get anxious about potential pain... I opted out. The treatment, as promised, did not hurt at all!! Furthermore, when it was over (about 45 min more or so), I was SHOCKED to see that not only did he finish the antibiotics treatment... he also noted that my tooth was kind of blue-ish (darker than expected), so he applied some "bleach" and made it white. What?!!! Who is this guy?!?!!! I hated this front tooth for being off weird looking for so many years.... My goodness!! The sheer kindness to take care of it. I mean, how many times had I been at my own dentist and asked to fix this?! Plenty! Yet here we are. So awesome. So kind. So generous. So caring. Bottom line, after this root canal treatment I was could not stop smiling. I am such a happy person right now. So grateful people like Dr Zoufan exist. THANK YOU read more

My old filling had come off. My primary care dentist told me twice that it couldn't be refilled, and needs a root canal/crown. Dr Zoufan examined, and said that refilling would suffice. Rare to get a doc that doesn't oversell expensive services - I appreciated that. The filling that he then did was quite painless. I recently visited Dr. Zoufan for a root canal. He is very professional and skilled. A root canal is no fun, but Dr. Zoufan and his kind assistant were very attentive to my comfort during the procedure. Dr. Zoufan is very skilled at injecting the Novocaine at the beginning of the procedure. Sometimes that's the worst part, but I barely felt it at all. I always felt that the doctor and his assistant were watching to be sure I was comfortable while he was working in my mouth. He kept me updated as to what he was doing and let me know when we were close to being done. His office called to check on my after the procedure. I had minor pain, which was easily controlled with Tylenol or Advil. I hope I don't need a root canal any time soon, but if I do, I will be back to see Dr. Zoufan. read more

I waited to have root canal work done because I wasn't experiencing any pain. Dental work is not on my list of favorites. My prognosis was guarded. I experienced tenderness after the treatment, but no pain or swelling. Dr Zoufan is amazing. Highly recommend. read more

Updated Review: After my initial review, Dr. Zoufan called me personally and was very serious to take care of what went wrong. He is a down to earth person. He handled the issue in a very professional way and assured me that he will refund me the difference I was charged and the amount my primary dentist had estimated while referring. And finally, I received the refund check. My concern was with the billing department. However, the job that Dr. Zoufan was excellent. It was painless and I was very comfortable with the procedure. As a ex-dental assistant from 20+ years ago I remember watching root canals and working with dentists side by side - this was by far the most pleasant experience I have had with a root canal after pushing off taking care of my own cracked tooth for 2 yrs. By far the most gentle pain injections I have ever had in my dental life - and I dislike them as much as the next person - but these were easy to deal with and done very well. My wife was at her regular dentist's when we learned that she had to get emergency root canal surgery which the dentist could not see beforehand on the X-rays. Since the regular dentist doesn't do surgery, a couple of phone calls later, the surgery was planned for a couple of hours later at Dr Zoufan's office. He not only squeezed us into his schedule that day, but he and his staff were also PERFECT, managing really well the worrisome circumstances for us. While he was performing the surgery, he noticed that maybe the root canal didn't have to be removed, and that he might have been able to clean enough deeply so that the nerve wasn't touched. He said "I would have made the same decision for myself". The plan was: let's see how that recovers, and decide if the root canal should be removed anyway. What we had paid was for the surgery + 6 months of "warrantee" anyway, so his idea was definitely not costing us more, so we figured, why not try. My wife's recovery was not straightforward; she had weird and unexpected pains in the gums and jaw. We went to see him several times, and each time, he thoroughly tested if any of the pains could be a nerve pain; and each time, he was a bit worried that the pains wouldn't go away, but they didn't seem like nerve pains to him. Once, he gave us his personal cellphone number, in case the pain would suddenly transform into a more worrisome one (after teaching us how to recognize it). We never paid any of these visits, as they were part of the warrantee. During that time, we received numerous calls from his office to keep them up to date. And eventually, my wife's pains slowly went away, the healing process was probably just taking a bit longer than usual, so one day, they called us, and I was able to tell them that it was all good and we'd be fine from now. Even better surprise: we received a last call later to let us know that since the surgery that had been performed was technically not a root canal removal after all, it was actually cheaper than if it had been; and therefore, they were refunding us the difference. Wow! TL;DR: Dr Zoufan made a perfect decision to save my wife's tooth against all odds, then was amazingly helpful when her recovery wasn't going great, and refunded us parts of the bill even though his decisions and service were perfect. Not only I would strongly recommend, but even though we moved an hour and a half away since, we wouldn't consider going to another surgeon if the need were to arise again. read more

I've now had 3 root canals with him. Dr Zoufan is an exceptional endodontist!! He is incredibly efficient, caring, thorough, kind, gentle, patient & literally a joy to visit...if one can call a root canal a joy! Unfortunately, I've had to have many root canals in the past. One of which ended in an extraction of the tooth due to repetitive shotty work. I opted to be treated at his Cupertino office, which had all the modern equipment and Dr Zoufan's office staff was great too with clear estimates, scheduling, and insurance billing. Even though the tooth was in a pretty bad shape, he was able to use his skills to save the tooth with precision root canals. He was caring and patient in answering all my questions. My primary Dentist who installed the post and crown later was in awe of how narrow the canals were done to minimize tooth structure damage ... but, he was not surprised as Dr Zoufan has a great reputation for his skills gained from long experience. Recently I needed an urgent root canal - lots of pain needed a quick resolution. I'm so glad I found Keivan Zoufan DDS! The front office was super friendly and accommodating.
