My two root canaled teeth performed by Dr Jespersen are still perfectly fine. However, I went in for a third root canaled tooth (my very first and oldest) and turns out it failed after 14 years due to bad luck. I did not get the news I had hoped for, but hopefully can move forward now with extraction. read more

This by far was the worse experience I've ever had. I had an anxiety attack. But THANKS to the assistant (I wish I knew his name! Dark skinned nice man I guess I can explain the best way I can Jespersens Assistant 9/16/2025 Tuesday 10am to be exact) was SOOOO supportive & comforting made it some what better but it was so bad I almost did not know what to do! I came in to get a root canal. Mind you I drove from San Leandro. With traffic it was an hour and a half. I was not going to waste any time so I was trying really hard to keep my patience & my composure with kindness to keep this procedure going until this Bruce Jespersen's rudeness kicked badly and was so unnecessarily aggressive with how he spoke with me and so unprofessional. I was so shocked. I was in tears because I could not believe how he acted towards me lol I'm laughing because I'm thinking about it now and I'm just like WOW this guy is unbelievable!!! It all started because I needed a root canal in my very back top tooth. So therefore, I know I need to keep my mouth wide open, but I can only keep it open very wide for so long. I tried my very best to do that, but he was pretty much yanking on my mouth to keep it open. I told him after a while that my jaw was hurting and he kept telling me open wide open wide. You can't keep it 2/3 open for me to work on it if you want this root canal done then you need to open wide and I told him my jaw is hurting. I can't keep opening it so wide can you put something in there to keep it open and he said no we don't have anything and I told him well. My jaw is hurting. My neck is hurting. I felt like he started to be rude and he wasn't taking my words and my feelings into consideration and finally told me well. You can go somewhere else and just did not care. I was in tears because of how he was talking to me. He was just super rude. He finally got up, took his gloves off and was just super aggressive. I broke out in more tears and I started shaking because his energy and his aggressive communication was just so horrible. I just could not believe how he was talking to me. He said there will be no charge for this. You can go somewhere else I just broke down. I had an anxiety attack. His assistant was Comforting me and told me to take my time and was just saying whatever he was saying to support me I don't even remember what all he was saying because I was just in full shock mind you I got the two shots in my mouth to numb the area and I just had to leave. I walked out of there in FULL TEARS and had to call my original dentist and tell them what happened And now I have to find another specialist to finish this root canal. I don't know if he was just having a horrible day, but whatever it was I hope this DOES NOT happen to another patient! read more

Bruce Jespersen can be described with one word: gruff. That's how he described himself twice during my visit with him. He said he's been in practice a very long time so if patients don't follow his set up list of rules he gets upset. Despite being referred with an X-ray he wouldn't see me until his office did an X-ray. Then he spent all of 15 seconds looking at my tooth. The lack of professionalism was beyond comprehension. This isn't 1950. Patients deserve to be treated with a modicum of respect and being in practice a long time is not a valid excuse. read more

How do you get a 5 Star review for a root canal? Be Dr. Jespersen and staff. I needed to see an endodontist and my main dentist recommended Dr. Jespersen. She said he does great work and won't do work that is not necessary just to generate billable time. I set up an appointment on short notice, got to the office 15 minutes early, was seated for under 5 minutes when I was ushered into a clean, modern operatory by a very nice gentleman who took X-rays and got me ready for the procedure. Dr. Jespersen explained what was going on, the possible causes for what he was seeing and what I should expect. He confirmed his diagnosis with "the ice test" and, before I knew it, he had my mouth numb and got to work. The person who prepped me must have been doing his internship because he did much of the work under Dr. Jespersens guidance. They were both very personable and highly efficient. I was walking out the door under 30 minutes later. There was almost no pain. If you need a root canal, this is the team to see. read more

I had an emergency Root Canal. I was referred by my General dentistry. I called spoke with receptionist - who was super on top of everything. She actually said there was a cancellation and i got in the next day !! I was so appreciated of her willingness to help. She answered all my question and even called me back after confirming my dental insurance with my coverage and the amount i would be paying on my end. Excellent Customer service and front desk skills ! I didn't catch her name. but i say thank you. My appointment. - I was text information through an app site. That secures my information and lets nothing to be questioned later. The Office site is sure nice. Right on Remington off of El Camino in Sunnyvale. The Doctors Assistant super nice and professional fellow. Office was clean and state of the art dental machines. Now Bruce Jespersen super nice guy ! I found him to be on top of everything. I think he is an expert in the field and he takes pride in his procedures. My Tooth #30 was a difficult one he said. But he stuck in the getting everything so my is out of the canal. He was took the time and at the end got everything. I must say "Thank you so much" At the end he took a X-ray to insure everything was done. Yes !! he got everything. The doctors assistance explained the antibiotics and the submitted the to the local CVS pharmacy. Dr. Bruce also stressed no chewing on that side. I'm getting a crown from my general dentistry in 4 days. I so appreciate the professionalism and straight to the point from Dr. Bruce. Dr.Jespersen is an extremely outdated and rude individual and I encourage you to read the other bad reviews because they are all true. He doesn't care about you as a patient and doesn't want to hear your questions or concerns. I cannot believe the treatment I received. The story is that Iv had 3 appointments here, the first was a consultation for a root canal. He did what I assume is the regular procedure, hit my tooth and put ice and concluded it wasn't yet a root canal. My permanent crown didn't fit two weeks later and Iv had to wait another month to get it made and fit again. During this time I have felt some discomfort so I was recommended back for a consultation with him. To my second appointment, He was not only an hour late, but didnt do the same procedure he did the first time, and asked if im feeling pain when i eat and i replied after i eat there is some dull pain. He took a mere glance at my X-ray and said there is decay which confused me because I had an X-ray the day before at my own dentist who said things looked fine. So we schedule a root canal in the next few days. When I come in for my third appointment, the very sweet older mexican assistant asks if I have any questions and concerns. I said I just wanted to be sure this procedure is the right route because Iv been told a lot of different things at this point and I am very nervous about this whole process. She said that's fine and will tell the doctor. The doctor comes in and says I should thank him for giving up an hour of his time to do this procedure that will not happen(even though a few days prior he was an hour late to my own appointment to which I said no worries things happen. Its ironic he conviently forgot about that), and to also thank him that he won't be charging, and that clearly Iv been doing my own research and it's not his job to push patients into procedures they don't want... I explained I'm not asking to be pushed into a procedure, and repeated that Iv been back and forth many times and have become very nervous, and I would just like to know if they are confident this is a root canal / why they think a root canal is now necessary. Dr. Jesperson, Still triggered, says again that it's not for him to tell patients what to do, and says thanks for coming, pats me on the shoulder quite harshly, and leaves the room while i'm still clearly trying to have a conversation with him. His demeanor was pretty hostile as he kept inching away toward the door, trying to avoid my questions. It is not out of the ordinary for patients to ask for confidence surrounding their procedure. Having treated me this way, tells me he does not want informed patients, and further wants them to feel ashamed for asking questions because answering questions is apparently a waste of his time. He seems to only be in it for the money. On the other hand, The assistant was able to answer the rest of my questions which I so appreciate. She should work for a better dentist such as Dr.Iyad Bachdak , my previous dentist. I asked what is normal and what is not, and is there a threshold of pain or discomfort that tells me I can be confident a root canal is the right procedure. She says a lot of my discomfort is normal considering my dentist drilled around so close to my root and pain afterwards is also normal. She said proceeding with a crown is a fine option and it's normal that if it does later become a root canal.it is all the same. I felt much better hearing this as iv had alot of bad experiences at the dentist. I have been asking my dentist or this dentist about what's normal and what's not, and what tells me it's time for a root canal or if theres things to look out for, and I have yet to get a confident answer, as they just keep sending me back to one another. Its as if they want to be told what to do. Considering they are the supposed experts, I really could not believe my treatment here today. I appreciate the assistants patience, understanding, and knowledge that she has. I wish I got her name. To describe her further, she does have an accent. She does not fit in there, and belongs somewhere with people who have her great attitude. I know she must be compensating for the doctors continuous bad behavior he must have all day. As I was leaving, the receptionists were oddly avoiding my eyes while i tried talking to them to see if anything else was needed.It was as if the doctor started bad mouthing me while I was asking the assistant questions in the other room. I almost never post a poor review for anyone. But having thought about this for months, I feel I owe it to other patients who may be similar to me. I have worked with Dr. Jespersen twice in the last 15 years. Both times, I found him condescending and gruff. This time, I felt demeaned, and was near tears, which is a first for me in 40 years of medical experiences. I asked for a mouth prop to hold my mouth open, and he refused. He said "no dentists use mouth props anymore out of concern over lawsuits." This is the first time I have ever been refused this by a dentist in 40 years. As a result, I had to hold my mouth open using only my own muscles. My jaw was opening and closing continuously and fast, out of my control, because I did not have the physical ability to hold my mouth open long enough for his procedure (about 15 min). That made his work nearly impossible. Whenever I asked to rest, he expressed frustration, saying, "This is taking way too long. Why can't you just keep your mouth open." Part way through the procedure, he sat back, frustrated, and said he would simply stop and leave his work undone unless I cooperated. He showed no interest in my experience or feelings. I reached out to another endodontist after this (5 stars in Palo Alto). He said he had never heard of any lawsuits or concerns over using mouth props. Nor had my personal dentist. Both allow the use of a mouth dam and offer them to patients. I wrote a long letter to Dr. Jespersen expressing unhappiness about my experience. I received no reply. I will also add - this root canal did nothing to reduce my tooth pain. A new endodontist several months later said that the correct tooth to do a root canal on the neighboring tooth, which in fact responded intensely to a root canal pain test. Once that was taken care of, I've been pain-free, no thanks to Dr. Jespersen. read more

I made an appt to get a detailed help & a second opinion for my tooth/gum & some explanation to what's going on. He checked me, poked my gums & said I have severe gum infection. He wrote on his notes & said he recommends extraction. He was in and out in less than 5 minutes. My husband who waited for me in the car was surprised that I was back so quick. I am thankful for Dr. Jespersen's office for getting me in for consultation and X-ray appointment the next day, where other places takes a month or so to make an appointment. There is no way a dental emergency could wait for a month. This office made everything easy for me. Efficient front desk lady( I think her name is Shanta) was very patient and explained everything like insurance coverage. Dr. Jespersen does not do any unnecessary work. In my opinion, he does what benefits the patient's health and wellbeing. The office is state of the art with microscope, digital 3d cbct scan, digital X-rays, and covid protocols in place. I highly recommend the Dr Bruce Jespersen. M primary dentist told I had a crack in my teeth and needs to go to endodontist. I had excruciating pain in my teeth for the past 5 days. When I called Dr's office, I got appointment for same day at afternoon and the moment I walked-in, the Dr has great empathy, and he quickly started the root canal treatment right away and completed it very quickly. Dr Jesperson was incredible. He was focused and thorough and I left his office pain free. I was able to get a next day appointment due to a cancellation, the front desk people were able to send a link so I could enter my medical history online, and check in was fast and efficient. 5 days later, I needed a copy of his report sent to me, and I had it within 5 minutes. Before he left, he even asked me if I had any more questions to ask him. Although I didn't need a root canal at this time, I would definitely go to him in the future if necessary. Had a bad experience with my last dentist, I was a bit apprehensive when I walked into Dr. Jespersen's office. An hour later after I came out of his office, I was thinking I was very lucky to have come to the best place to treat my aching tooth. Dr. Jespersen is one of the best endodontists in the area. He has a firm and non-nonsense manner, yet he is very gentle with his patient. I feel comfortable sitting in the chair being treated by him. Looking at the x-rays, he thought I might need to have surgery or even extraction, but he carefully drains out the deceased pulp and performed root canal to save my tooth. He and his assistant worked in tandem. When I sat in the chair with my eyes closed, it sounds like a well-orchestrated chorus. I enjoyed their cooperative, efficient work spirits. The entire procedure was done in an hour. He gave me verbal and written instructions for postoperative care and said he would answer additional questions. The front office staff and his assistant were very nice to help ease the stress of being in a dental office. I enjoy the whole experience. Three weeks after I completed my root canal, I went to my general dentist for crown and filling. They call Dr. Jaspersen and he share his notes with the dentist that will do my next dental procedure. A week after being treated I receive a bill for payment in full although this office told me they'd bill my insurance and my insurance covers it 100%. I called his office to remind them that before the procedure they agreed to bill my insurance. The woman on the phone explains that she can't without a final x-ray which I promptly have my dentist send over. Next thing I know, I recieve a court summons at work - he's suing me. No calls, no notice, just a summons out of the blue. I end up paying $400 of the bill - what we agreed on to have them drop the court case - and they tell me again they'll bill insurance. 4 months later they finally bill my insurance and Dr. Jespersen is promptly paid in full. I asked for my $400 overpayment returned to me, they refused. After a letter and a emails, they called to tell me they'll refund part of it. What a circus. They have a very skillful employee who's evidently very familiar with the courts - she sounds like a paralegal on the phone. It's a strange way to run a business that depends on goodwill, people referring friends and family. I was treated horribly, during and after my visit. read more

I'm not a huge fan of the dentist and I was dreading my upcoming appointment for my first root canal. Just the thought of the procedure made me feel uneasy and anxious. The front end staff was very welcoming and friendly. Kathy the Dental Assistant explained the entire process and took a lot of my stress away. Dr.Jespersen hands down was the best dentist ever!! We shared a few laughs before we started and that was awesome. I didn't feel the shot for numbing besides a quick pinch. And a few minutes later the Dr. was getting to work. I wasn't in any pain and the procedure was done within an hour. All that worry for nothing and if I ever need another root canal I know I will visit Dr.Jespersen and his amazing staff again. Had a retreat root canal and I absolutely had a phenomenal experience. I'm one of those people who has total dental anxiety and Dr. Jespersen changed my entire outlook, what a pro! You can tell that he is just the top at what he does. Very gentle touch and has a flare for making everything as comfortable as possible, from the way he gently jostles your head to distract from the novocaine injection (which I honestly barely even felt) to the gracefulness of every touch and how he asks how you're doing along the way. I was wary of the visit because I felt doubtful about the diagnosis (I wasn't having any tooth pain and the xray had looked ok). I felt concerned Dr. Jespersen might recommend an unnecessary root canal and had planned to get a second opinion if so. On the contrary, Dr. Jespersen was very professional and, to my relief, told me I didn't need the procedure. I feel like I need to write this review in Dr. Jespersen's defense to the reviewers who have posted about his poor chairside manner and him being a "root canal machine." To begin, Dr. Jespersen is really, really good at what he does. He is, after all, a specialist. And he is a specialist in high demand because... wait for it... he's really, really good at what he does. He is not rude; he is FOCUSED. He has a tight calendar. When you're really good at what you do, guess what? Your calendar fills up. I think Dr. Jespersen knows that he's good at what he does and wants to help as many people as possible. As someone who really wanted to get on his calendar, I appreciate this fact. If you're lucky, you see an endodontist once or twice in your life. This is a transactional relationship more than it is a service relationship, the way your relationship with your regular dentist might be. Adjust your expectations accordingly. That said, I personally found Dr. Jespersen's chairside manner to be lovely. He has a dry sense of humor and was very personable when I engaged him in off-topic conversation, but it was also apparent that he was focused on staying on schedule and he tactfully kept the chit-chat in check. If I were the patient in the next room in agony waiting for relief, I would appreciate the fact that he is not easily distracted. Is he a root canal machine? I'm not really even sure what people think that means but who would you rather have do your root canal? Someone who does root canals a lot and has probably seen everything there is to see when it comes to root canals and has a ton of experience, or someone who is less experienced and does not specialize? I'll take the guy who does root canals all day every day for years and years, please. I am cursed with genetically bad teeth and have had several root canals in my life. I've also moved a lot which means I've had root canals from several different professionals. I can honestly say that the very best root canal experience of my life was with Dr. Jespersen. I can see how his manner could be interpreted as a little bit short but emotionally mature adults know better than to take that personally. I did not doubt his knowledge or skill for a moment and found his manner to be highly professional. He answered all of my questions and addressed my concerns and did amazing work. Came in here a few months ago for a root canal that I had been avoiding for way too long. I think I was in and out in about an hour or less. I was surprised when it was all done and over with. Dr. Jespersen did a great job and since I was dreading it, I must say it was much less painful than I was expecting as well as compared to other people's stories. Of course, there is some discomfort and your jaw is a little sore, but I am definitely glad I came to this office for the procedure. I would come here again and recommend to others seeking dental treatment. After reading the other reviews, I can agree that Dr. Jespersen wasn't a big talker and basically left and didn't say anything when the procedure was done (let the dental assistant take over), but I'll take that over a painful root canal any day. read more

I usually don't write reviews but this Dentist was the worst dentist or doctor we have ever seen. My wife was referred to him for evaluation and if needed, treatment of the root canal. Here this guy comes in the room, ask questions, do you have pain, where is it, that is it. Without taking X-rays, without discussing anything, start re root canal and giving pain medication. My wife stopped him for putting pain injection and asked explain what are you doing. Very rudely he said we don't rush patient and left the room. Nurse came and asked what happened, she said I understand your concern and asked if you want to do it today, I can talk to Doctor. My wife said I want to do the procedure that is why came here, at least let me know what are you doing. After discussing with doctor nurse said now he doesn't want to push it and will do next week, we can book appointment for next week..
