Furious would be an understatement. Paul has been to my house twice. Not once but twice to measure the exact same door because the first time he lost the measurements. I paid the service fee for him to come and measure the lock I needed, as well as have him re-key another door. It's now been 3 months that I've been waiting for a simple phone call for someone to call me and say whether or not they will be able to add a lock to our sliding glass door. 3 months and not a single person at Keller Lock & Safe has been able to call me back and let me know if it's possible. Paul is the person who has come to measure twice (both times being hours late) and even when I've gotten ahold of other people, they always direct me back to him saying I need to connect with him to find out if a lock can be installed. I would have called someone else months ago except when he originally came over he broke our door and said he would fix it when he came back the next time. 0 Stars. Left two voicemails two weeks ago and never called back. On my third try of calling them, due to their stellar Yelp reviews, I finally got to talk to Brian. We scheduled the appointment for last Monday for him to come and give us an estimate in installing new locks on a two unit building (17 locks; it's not a small job). He showed up on Monday and we went over everything. He took down notes and I thought ok, this might work out after all. He said he'd get back to me with a price in a couple of days. Great! I am excited because he seemed like a nice guy. A week went by and I called to follow up the following Monday. At first, he didn't sound like he even remembered this job and then he said that his computer broke down so he couldn't email me the estimate. I told him to just to text me a bottom line quote. He said he will as soon as he get home. Nothing. Called again on Tuesday to follow up and he said he will get his partner to send me something by 1 PM because his computer still doesn't work and he got home late last night. It's now 1:40 PM and I have a feeling that this is not going to work between us after all... He didn't pick up his phone and I left a voicemail asking if he plan on getting back to me. I understand we can get busy (I also run my own business and I am a one-woman shop) but this is absolutely ridiculous! At least he could have just called and give me a reason why he couldn't get the estimate to me this third time around. NOTHING. Maybe they are great when they actually show up to do the work but as of now, I am extremely disappointed at the flakiness and the lack of professionalism this company have shown. I am counting the no. of calls I've made to get that initial estimate sent to me and it's over 6 calls of following up from me. I would never recommend them to anyone else unless they like to have a frustrating experience or need more drama in their life. FURIOUS does not even begin to describe my experience with this horrible, unprofessional business. If you want a quick lock changed, fine they might do a good job. Anything more than that, STAY AWAY!!!!! I first called them May 31 to add a lock to a sliding glass door and they said sure, no problem. It's now Oct 1 and still no lock and THEY WON'T RETURN MY CALLS. I've paid them the service call fees, and Paul has been to my house at least 4-5 times. He says he needs to look at the door and then has to "go to his car" and then disappears! He will run to a hardware store to get something or measure something and then have to come back the following week...and oh wait, he brought the wrong part, or they didn't have the part in stock...and then go MIA for 2 months!! This business is completely shady and run by unprofessional people who don't know how to treat their customers. I tried being nice and giving them the benefit of the doubt and I'm left with no working door, out the money I paid them for the visits, and no explanation. All I asked from BOTH OWNERS was a return phone call saying "yes we can do this" or "no we can't"...some kind of explanation...so I can hire someone else if I have to. I got my answer from the rude lack of response. Do not do business with Keller Lock & Safe...ESPECIALLY the irresponsible Paul. Stay away. 4 months is way too long for a locksmith not to be able to change a lock. read more

It's been a few years since my last review. I had such a great experience with Brian that when my lock tumbler failed I called Keller up again. This time my point of contact was Paul. A VERY different experience resulted. My first attempt was a Saturday booking. Paul didn't show up and ended texting me -after- my scheduled time. He indicated he was sick and said maybe reschedule Monday. No problem, we're all human and get sick from time to time. Monday came around and texting him midday garnered no replies. He eventually got back to me close to 5pm stating he was out cold from meds. Are you starting to see a pattern here? We end up scheduling again for Saturday. Saturday comes and 15 minutes past our schedule time, I texted Paul. He then tells me my new appointment is now 3hrs later! Would've been nice to let me know prior. To sum it all up. Dealing with Paul was a complete waste of time. Failure to keep appointments, failure to follow up, failure to even provide the courtesy of notice for missed appointment! You'd think I was dealing with Comcast. Time for me to find another locksmith. read more

I was excited to use Keller after reading so many positive reviews. I called Brad and made an appointment for my condo locks to be re-keyed. The scheduled time came and went. I tried calling to see when he might be available to reschedule but never got through. I guess they are successful enough to neglect potential customers. Worth noting that three other people (Matthew C., Deanna A., and Andy L.) had similar experiences but their reviews were filtered. Keller pops up on the sponsored listings - so it seems obvious the "ambivalent" Yelp filter is at work here. Look for this review to get filtered ;-). read more

These guys are fantastic. Our condo association had them out to fix the front door, and they were so nice and reasonably priced that we wound up hiring them to do a lot more for the whole building. I could not BELIEVE I'd lost an important key to my bosses' business. And my bosses were out of town! I could not, could not believe it. Where could my key have gone? I was pacing around the shop, panicking. I googled how to change a lock. I googled how expensive it would be to pay someone else to change a lock. Google told me that simply re-keying a lock -- that's when someone shifts the tumbler around inside the lock so that a new key will fit -- is cheaper and faster than replacing a lock. So, on a Sunday night in my workplace afterhours, I was on our iMac, hunting around Yelp for someone who could "re-key." These guys! These guys can do that! And I called, and Brian answered, and he said he'd drop by in an hour. And half an hour later I saw him drive up, and I poked my head out of the gate, and I was like, that was not one hour. And he grinned. I gave him a key and directed him to the lock, and he easily removed the lock and took it to his van. I had one cigarette, and I checked my email, and by then he had returned with the lock and eight new keys. The whole ordeal was quick, painless, and so much less money than it could have been. I am beside myself with gratitude, and I look forward to employing Keller's services again -- I mean, not in an emergency situation, but just to have my apartment re-keyed. read more

These guys deserve every star I gave them. I wish every locksmith were like them. I had a problem with a locksmith I called in the middle of the night after finding them in a phone book. Long story short, that other company ripped me off and I called Keller to come and fix what the other company did. These guys are great. They show up on time, their prices are just right, and (what I think is very, very important), you can trust them. FYI, they have a great tip on their web site: if you call a locksmith and they don't give you a quote over the phone, it's probably a scam. But of course, why would you need any other locksmith when you can have Keller? Please, if you need one, call these guys - I was so pleased with them I want to reward them for their professionalism and honesty by sending them as much business as possible. read more

I have Keller Lock and Safe on my speed-dial and you should too. I've locked myself out 3 times in the last few years, so it is quite comforting to not have to yelp and google on Friday nights when I've inevitably walked out in t-shirts and shorts to throw away the garbage. Before they were on speed-dial, I had tried a few locksmiths I thought might be them, and had the typical experience: flailing attempts to pick the lock, an exasperated explanation that while he'd prefer not to, we will have to drill the lock, and a resigned offer to replace the locks. I'm clearly an idiot for needing a locksmith so often, but at least I knew I was being scammed and happily sacrificed an extra service fee to minimize the plundering the other crooks try to give me. I think some of the bad reviews have in common the phone issue. I've never had that issue, but I've been told multiple times that using their online scheduling is the most reliable method if possible (obviously not on a Friday night post-trash dump). They also told me that they and other reputable locksmiths have been mimicked on google with a different phone number so some shady locksmith actually answer your call. No idea if that's true, but might explain other bad reviews. My first review, I'll get to someone I despise soon...Wish I remembered the other crook's name. read more

I've had two experiences with this company, both excellent. Last year, we were having a bunch of problems with our front door. Their guy showed up quickly and on-time, fixed the issue and showed me exactly what he was doing and why. I was charged a fair price. A good experience, through and through. Then today, more issues with the door. I called them again and explained my problem. The person I talked with on the phone thought it was something fairly simple and he LITERALLY WALKED ME THROUGH THE REPAIR ON THE PHONE at that moment. I fixed the lock myself and saved a little time and money. Complete integrity from these guys. This is the only locksmith I will ever use. read more

I had a deadbolt installed as well as had other locks re-keyed. I purchased a Schlage deadbolt from HomeDepot & I liked that the locksmith didn't AT ALL try to tell me he could sell me a much better lock! Totally on time, nice, cleaned up after the work. Overall a great experience. We were changing the common locks on a 3 unit condo in Lincoln Park and i called with a few questions. All of my questions were answered along with several suggestions on a multi unit building. I book the appointment on-line and arranged to have the keys delivered a day or two prior to the locks being changed. Paul was running a bit late on the day of the appointment but sent me several text messages keeping me well informed. He changed all of the lock sets but additionally adjusted knobs, strike plates and hinges. All of the doors work just like new!! read more

My husband booked in an appointment with Keller Lock & Safe to re-key our doors since we were new to our condo. He was running late on a Saturday but we were flexible, so he called to let us know. He and his son who also works for him arrived, and promptly took off their shoes without being asked and quickly got to work. My husband had gotten an estimate via email with them and the total cost was within $10 of the estimate which we appreciated! They knew I had a 11-month old baby (who was awake when they first arrived) and once she was down napping they (again, without being asked or told) were very quiet and the son was whispering to his father. As a mom who appreciates customer service I was very pleased and He should be proud of his fine son! They seem like a wonderful family business. I'm sad to post a negative review after reading about everyone else's uniformly positive experiences. When my wife had called Keller to request re-keying for our condo, we were pleased that they were willing to come within a few days and accommodate our schedules. However, after our appointment time came and went, my wife called to see what the new ETA would be. The locksmith who answered the phone said that he was running a few hours behind, and (since coming later would have pushed our service late into the night) would we mind rescheduling for the following evening? Not at all, we said, and it was mentioned that our price would be adjusted to compensate for our having been inconvenienced. So far, that suggested to me that Keller had pretty good customer service skills. However, the following evening came and went, again with no word from the locksmith. No calls, no follow-up. Too bad, because it sounds like when they do show up, they do good quality work. read more

Do yourself a favor and sort these reviews by date and you'll see an unnerving number of recent one star reviews, especially for a business that, somehow, averages four stars. All the stories of missed appointments, no calls, no shows, and generally not giving a f are true. I am a realist. I understand when this kind of business misses appointments and needs to reschedule. But these guys are masters in blowing people off. My theory is that they are content doing the fastest, most basic house calls and trying to churn through easy clients as fast as possible. Anything beyond copying a key or re-keying some locks and you are going to be in trouble, because it's just not worth their time. They will ignore you and your appointment and move on to the next easy money. There are other locksmiths in the city. Do not waste your time here. read more

Do not call this location if you want your lock fixed! The past reviews concerning no call backs are very true! I called their number to set up an appointment and he said I needed to go to their website to place a time for an appointment and could not be bothered to help me out over the phone. I placed my appointment for 11:30am on Saturday, and received a confirmation email Saturday morning for the appointment. At 11:45am the guy had not arrived and I called the store and left a message. I called an hour later and reached the man who said he was taking his kids to the doctor and had to wait for his wife to get home until he could come to my home which would be 2 hours later!! I recently asked Keller Lock and Safe come out and re-key my house and replace the locks on my front and back gates. Easy to schedule and they did a fantastic job at a reasonable price. I especially like that it was easy to schedule around my work schedule as they will do jobs in the evening. All doors are now in perfect working order and I have more spare keys than I'll ever need. I needed front locks put into a 16 unit building where I am Property Manager. I called and spoke with a man who said he'd go out there and give me an estimate. A week later I called again and they said they'd go out. After my third phonecall to try and get service, I called them today to let them know I'm taking my business elsewhere. after recieving an outragous quote from another company that I have used for years, I turned to my trusty YELPers for reccomedations. Easy online scheduleing, *note* this is a locksmith (duh) so if they don't answer the phone right away it's probably because they are out on the field working. They called (like promised) to let me know they were on the way and rekeyed 3 locks and mailbox. Took a hour and half of my day but they were as quick and efficient as possible. Did all the work in the van (there was an associate in the van while the locksmith removed and installed the new cylinders). So far so good! read more

can't say enough good things about this guy. with a moments notice he came out at what would have normally been off hours [9 pm] and didn't charge the skyrocketed rate... he fixed what the previous locksmith ["Emergency Locksmith" on Lawrence is AWFUL and will steal your money] had screwed up and was even able to re-key the new doorknob to my current keys. all this at a totally reasonable price; less than half of what i paid to Emergency Locksmith [aka scam artists-r-us] to have them destroy my door-handle. seriously, this is a trustworthy business here in a sea of scam artists. i have been telling all my friends that if they ever need someone, there is really no one else you should even consider calling. read more

I set an appointment for 1pm yesterday, only to receive a text at 2:15 asking to reschedule for later that day. Then at around 4, I received a text asking to reschedule for today at 8:30am. At around 9, I received another text saying that he will be here in 45 minutes. At 10:35, I received yet ANOTHER text saying that he is "close" and that he will text me when he's outside...that was half an hour ago. This man is a crook! Doesnt pay his bills! Doesnt return phone calls to customers needing service on products he sold that are under warranty. He doesnt have an office to track him down.
