I went here for one thing, turkey roll. You can get all breast (white) meat or a combo of both. I tend to go for both, as it gives a deeper turkey flavor. I'll be taking it back with me to Los Angeles, as I can't find any out there. At about $5.18 a pound, it is comparable for what you'd pay for a whole turkey, about 1/3 of which you'd throw away. I don't mind paying that kind of money. They have a big variety of meats. I like that they package them in little freezer packets. If I lived in Albuquerque, I'd buy my meats here. They had several specialty foodstuffs. I was impressed at the selection. They had stuff for dietary restricted diets, too. I didn't explore the whole store, but on their website they talk about the specialty cheeses they have. I'm glad I didn't see them, or I would have bought several pounds of different things. The one thing I can complain about and the reason I gave it 3/5 stars is the smell. My mother had mentioned it before I walked in, but there is a peculiar odor in the store. I can't quite put my finger on it. It isn't a rotting smell but it isn't exactly pleasant, either. I picked up some pumpkin bread, at the checkout. It was delicious and not too sweet. Keller's is awesome. An amazing selection of meats and cheeses, as well as other hard to find food and drink goods. And, if you don't find the cut/shape/size of meat you are looking for, just ask and they will cut/shape/size it for you on the spot! They also have an amazing selection of buffalo, elk and other meats. I have yet to find anything that isn't awesome here. And the prices are quite reasonable. Full disclosure - I have not tried any of their seafood. It looks good, but I can't attest directly. If you love your pooch, ask them for bones or meat scraps and they'll set you up with that as well. Or you could just buy him/her one of the grass-fed beef steaks! What, you don't love your dog?? Was looking for something special for a birthday celebration, and the folks behind the meat counter were very helpful. They recommended the dry aged Delmonico cut ribeye steaks. We seasoned them simply with a little salt and pepper and then seared them over a hot grill. They had absolutely fantastic flavor and were melt-in-your-mouth juicy and tender. Wow! Thought I "reserved" a turkey for Thanksgiving, wanted to pay over the phone but they said to pay when I picked up. They asked for my name and phone number so I assumed I was put down on a list. I told them I wanted a fresh turkey not frozen and they told me to pick up the day before Thanksgiving. Showed up that Wednesday and the girl behind the counter told me they had no more turkeys left? I was slightly upset because I try and buy local and traveled from Santa Fe to pick it up. The girl behind the counter was rude and told me their other store had turkeys, so while I'm mapping the address my husband asked another employee in front and she said neither store had any left. I was getting sent across town for no reason? Will never go back there!! read more

Walking into Keller's offers me a nostalgic journey back to the local mom & pop grocer near my grandparent's midwestern farm. It's the place where things are priced with stickers, they only carry ONE brand of a particular item, and the deli counter folks know the regulars by name (and ask about their grandkids and cats and ongoing battle with weeds in their garden). It feels like home. Oh yeah and their meat selection is fantastic. Beef, chicken, pork, game meats, you name it. This a true butcher shop that will cut, trim, or slice anything you want in any way you want. Just ask. They also make a variety of delicious sausages, including some that come and go with seasons and holidays. Check out the frozen area for some of the stranger meats, weird cuts, and even things I can't wrap my head around cooking. The refrigerated section has a number of local goods including eggs, tortillas, bread, and tamales from ABQ farmers, growers, and bakers. Support your neighbors and they'll keep your belly full of delicious things. For first timers...Grab a number when you walk in the front door. Then go the meat counter and wait your turn. Don't be the guy that jumps the line because he "didn't know better." You're in the know now, so act like a regular :-) read more

I just moved to Albuquerque recently and I was really excited to check this place out as I'm on a carnivore diet. Unfortunately I was very disappointed after my first visit. I got an assortment of meat from rib-eyes, NY strips, and some ground beef on a packed Saturday afternoon. Much to my surprise, I found small fragments of bone in all the rib-eyes and made the mistake of giving some to my dog before I noticed it. Needless to say, it didn't sit well as he had diarrhea with blood in it for about 4-5 days and I'm 99% sure the reason was the bones fragments from this place. I called to make sure that this wasn't supposed to happen or that I didn't make the mistake of ordering bone-in, but I certainly didn't as I still have the receipt on my fridge door. Long story short, make sure you check the stuff you ingest from here or god forbid before you give some to your dog. read more

I'm from Europe and really wanted to like this store, but at the end was disappointed. The whole store gives a kind of drab feeling. The fish choice was disappointing and looked tired. I settled on Rib Eye steak and while the sales associate behind the counter had them in her (bare) hands, she started to cough towards the steaks. Yikes! No attempt to cover her mouth at all. It sounded like a hacking cough and because the flu was going around in town, I assume she worked being sick. I told her that I do not appreciate the way she was handling the meat, and also told the cashier when I left without making any purchase. The saleswoman insistes she "just needed water" as a reason for her cough, but that was hard to believe for me. I had high hopes but this was really turning me off. read more

It's hard to find butchers around the Albuquerque area that have bone in steak options. I have switched to Pescatarian but when I hold dinner parties for my family i like to provide steak for other guests. They had at least 4 options and when I called they answered the phone right away and were ready and willing to answer all my questions. Local, organic, quality. This place is like a little Whole Foods, but more local. Great deli, they have all sorts of meat (including exotic stuff like alligator and ostrich). I would highly recommend this place if you're looking for hard-to-find bits like pig's feet, or chicken gizzards, etc. Overall, just an awesome little store. I am compelled to review Keller's again. We shop here frequently and are never disappointed. The grass-fed beef is the best I have ever had in my life. I have paid $50 in restaurants for a steak nowhere near this delicious. The chicken breasts are juicy and flavorful - I have difficulty eating chicken from anywhere else now. The sausages they make themselves are unbelievably good - all different kinds, but I particularly like the chicken apple and the chorizo. They are so flavorful and just pure tasting - damn, they are good! We mainly shop there for meats, milk, butter and eggs. But they have all kinds of interesting foods I like to peruse and occasionally take home. They have great pastries and other yummy stuff like interesting gelatos. It's an amazing store - anyone who does not shop there is a total fool. read more

Every year, we order turkey from Kellers for thanksgiving and every year our turkey turns out to be extra delicious. With the craziness before thanksgiving, I was surprised that they were able to manage the store without much chaos. If I ever have a special occasion, I usually come here to buy meat. Their butchers are very knowledgeable and you can find almost any part of a pig or a cow in this store. The employees are friendly and yes, the numbering system definitely helps with the organization of the store so no one is pushing and shoving trying to get their turkey that they ordered. I definitely would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for good quality meat. Even the specialty items such as pig liver, and brain you can find there. read more

I was a Kellers virgin until recently when I decided to take the plunge for one of the most important meals of the year, thanksgiving. Very disappointed my "fresh turkey" was found to be previously frozen, after I began prepping tonight (thanksgiving-eve). The bacon though (purchased to add some zing to my deviled eggs)..... Christ!! Simply... orgasmic. Yes, I said it, orgasmic! Or as close as you can get with a cured piece of pork. I had to sample it during preparations, it smelled so sweet, my mouth watered as I slowly rendered it to a more acceptable leanness. We'll see about the cheeses tomorrow. The staff, in my two short visits, were friendly and efficient. They appeared knowledgeable , (un)fortunately I never need much help. The short of it, I'll be returning and trying some of the other apparent spectacular offerings. I'll just be more careful and inquisitive next time I purchase my next "fresh" foul. Cheese update to follow... Ok, I'm not a cheese connoisseur so I don't know what I can say about the few cheeses I've had from Keller's, it's all been good. smells like, tastes like, looks like.... cheese. My one star rating is based SOLELY on their ability to ship out of state. My parents used to live in Albuquerque and RAVED about Kellers. They now live in the Phoenix area, and for Father's Day, I wanted to send my dad/them some hot dogs as a surprise, because that was their favorite on the menu. I called twice. Both times I was told someone would be in later in the day to help me with the order, and price out what needed to happen. Nobody ever called me back. I live in the Boston area, was willing to pay extra, and obviously pick up the shipping charges. If you don't know how to do something - just say it. If you don't want to do it - just say it. I would appreciate the upfront answer of "NO", way better than folks not returning my calls, and missing the chance for a surprise delivery. read more

They stock grass-fed beef, which is a must in the post-Food, Inc. universe I now live in. They also carry New Mexican spices at relatively cheaper prices and keep green chiles in the freezer. Why shop at a corporate giant when you can support your local mom & pop stores? You think those "rewards" cards are there to help you save money? Wake up. They're there to gather research on your indispensables so they can determine which items to jack-up over the long-term. Corporations only care about about the bottom line, numb-nuts. Wonderful shop with a fantastic selection of meats AND seafood. I was able to find Gulf shrimp which I can't find anywhere in Albuquerque. They also have a great selection of dairy items and fresh eggs. I bought two Delmonico steaks and I can't wait to make them tonight. There is a small section of produce. The best part about this place is that they have lots of gourmet food items that you cannot find anywhere else around town (at least that I know of!). Stonewall Kitchen products, too! I will be back. It is a bit pricey but it is local. I only shop for beef here but they do have a nice selection of hard to find wild game that I will be giving a try on my next trip there. You have to pull a ticket for meat service that is located in the front of the store when you walk in and the meat is in the back. There beef selection is the best I have found in town so don't let my 3 stars fool you but if all you want is a basic no bone in rib-eye or strip I'll be going to Costco. read more

We'll never go there again. We got a frozen meat order of $132.00 and a chicken was missing. We called and they said come by the next day and we'll give you a chicken. When my husband got there the owner Nancy said they don't have chickens that small; (2lbs.), But that was the size of the chicken that was in the package we bought. We weighed it. She was acting like he was lying, trying to get a free chicken. So he walked out with nothing. When I called her she gave me the same speech. Everything I get at Kellers is fresh and tasty. They keep a good selection of marinades and woods as well as salts and rubs and other seasonings. I love Keller's. When I don't have a lot of time sometimes I go elsewhere and end up regretting it. Keller's has A+ steaks. My go to's at Keller's are their bone in center cut pork chops (my kids are huge fans), bone in chicken, Porter House Steak (my favorite) and ground beef. I ordered a smoked ham for Christmas and it was amazing. It wasn't the dyed pink hams you get at the grocery store, it is a natural ham, so delicious. My family raved over the ham. Keller's is a little pricier but you definitely get what you pay for. Anyway, definitely check out Keller's, it is worth a visit! read more

I can't rate this place high enough! What a blessing it is to have them down the road from me. I've tried to make a commitment to purchasing meats for dinner or what have you here because quality of ingredients does make a difference in my family's overall nutritional well being. I've purchased their frozen bone marrow segments for making various recipes with marrow, very affordable. I was even able to talk to the butcher behind the counter about a whole femur bone. She said "Yeah, they had it." An employee in the back was more than happy to take a band saw to it and slice it in two for me. Great selection of meats and wild game like rabbit I use for Brunswick stew. Don't take your business to a large chain grocer, stop by a Keller's location, spend a little extra, and taste and feel the difference of quality farm fresh and grass-fed meats. read more

What a treat to find a local specialty grocery shop. It's packed full of things you won't find in a regular grocery store and has lots of local goodies from candy makers and coffee joints. The butcher is the star of the show here. Really you can get any kind of cut imaginable. Special orders are welcome! Get grain free, grass fed, and free range meats. Lovely cheese selection; though not as vast as the butcher. Plenty of goodies to keep you roaming the shelves. You're sure to find something you've never had before and eager to try.
