Friendly bar staff. Tons of parking. Tons of outdoor space with picnic tables, cornhole and across from the water. Drinks are as advertised. Order the Nachos. Honestly, not the greatest. Small portion. Plain flavored chicken and cheese. Nacho cheese spread with salsa, sour cream, and jalapeños. Stale chips. Not the greatest food but still a great atmosphere and bar. Keep up the good work bar staff. Overall A 7.9 but I would give it a 8.4 if I didn't have the food. read more

We came for Friday night sunset dinner. The West Bay Inn is hopping, pretty much all the time. We were able to snag a patio seat pretty close to the edge for a good view, and quickly got drinks. I had a margarita and the others ordered canned seltzer. The margarita was $5, the seltzers closer to $7. The marg was just OK, not a bad size, chunky salt rim, not exactly cold. For dinner, I had the walleye basket. It was also OK - 2 large pieces of fish, and some obviously frozen fries. The first piece of fish was good, crunchy breading, flakey fish. The second piece had multiple bones and it still had the skin on, which isn't my favorite in breaded fish, so got messy picking it apart. My friend ordered the chicken bacon ranch flatbread and that was surprisingly good, with garlicky sauce and plenty of chicken chunks. We did catch the sunset cannon fire, and in spite of knowing about it, were still all caught off guard! The vibe is great, there were a lot of people having a fun, and both live and recorded music going on. More for the vibes than the food, but it was fun. read more

West Bay Inn was... very mid. I stuck to canned seltzers because everything else on the drink menu looked a bit suss. The burger? Less than stellar. The flatbreads? Odd--for reasons I'm still trying to wrap my head around. Kelley's Island doesn't offer endless options, so I guess "beggars can't be choosers" applies here. Bottom line: come with your expectations firmly tapered. You might stay because it's there, but I wouldn't go for the food. read more

This is our first trip to Kelly's Island. We stopped by some of "downtown" which was already crowded before stuff even opened. We came up today at 11am, they were "open-ish" due to staffing struggles. Anna was very welcoming and friendly! Got a couple drinks to celebrate our 25th anniversary and some food. The burger was tasty and juicy, the tender platter was as well. Beautiful view and awesome convo with Anna while it was quiet. Bathrooms are super clean and plenty of seating with awesome views! I like that we can take our boat over for a bite to eat. My issue is when they advertise a "festival" without being staffed to handle the business. If it is off season and you do not have the staff, do not have (and advertise) Oktoberfest. read more

Beautiful outside setting right on the lake with great views of put in bay and the monument across the water. Nice big outside pavilion bar with good service. Fun canon shot at sunset every evening. Great place to spend some time on a summer day tour of Kelley's Island. read more

Absolutely gorgeous place to enjoy the beauty of the island. We didn't get a chance to watch a sunset there but can sure it'd be spectacular. The staff were super friendly and happy to answer all of our touristy questions with a smile. There was a singer/guitarist playing when we were there and he was excellent. Best sunset views on the island, gorgeous waterfront location - and they fire a literal, loud cannon nightly at sunset! Such a fun island tradition. We loved the spacious patio, friendly fast service and generous portions. I had the Hawaiian bbq pork flatbread, kiddo had chicken tenders and others had nachos and taco salad. I am absolutely shocked that this place was rated so poorly. Several of the reviewers commented on how slow this place was. PEOPLE, we packed cards and did not even get a regular deck sorted into a euchre deck between ordering and getting our food. We ordered 2 walleye baskets, 1 walleye sandwich, and a cauliflower crust Hawaiian flatbread. The food was great and piping hot. We stayed from supper - till sunset eating, drinking, and playing cards. Additionally, the service was great. The outdoor area was tidy. The restrooms were clean. The night was capped off with the firing of a cannon at sunset. This is a true gem and a great place to watch the sun go down. This restaurant is also kid and dog friendly. It seems like quintessential Kelleys Island to me. read more

Fun place with friendly attentive service and nice open area for kids to play. Stopped here for lunch while we waited to check in to our hotel down the road. Seated right away and drink in hand minutes later. We had the walleye basket which was a delicious, perfect light corn meal breading and lightly fried. Soft pretzel appetizer looked great but ended being a little dry and tasted more like bread than pretzel. Kids had chicken fingers and they were very good. On a short vacation day right around Kelly's island we came across the West Bay Inn and restaurant here and Jerrad, our server, was fantastic. The food ...the pulled pork with the tater tot's and the the walleye basket were absolutely top-notch.. excellent! Great service, excellent food, excellent all the way around! This is the place to go for an island breeze on a hot day! We enjoyed the outdoor bar with friends. We had some buckets and tried two appetizers, the tater tots with bbq sauce and pulled pork and the fish bites. The food was good, nothing special...we just needed food in our belly before drinking. Such a gorgeous location for this hangout spot. My party of nine seated ourselves on a covered table in the grass, and we were told to order our food at the bar. We took turns going up to the bar, ordering our food and drinks. The bartender was annoyed that we were ordering our food there, because apparently we were supposed to have a waiter. I ordered the Malibu juice, not knowing it came in a HUGE bucket! It was delicious and I still finished it, though. I ordered some fries which were really good. A few of my friends ordered macaroni and cheese and it was literally Kraft mac and cheese, and they were disappointed. It was a super busy Saturday so the food took a while to come out for everyone, but it was such a beautiful day, we didn't really mind the wait. read more

I'm shocked by the overall low rating of this place! I loved it here! We visited in August and actually turned the golf cart around to come here after we passed by because we saw the outside bar, big yard games, and a lot of outdoor seating for a quick snack. We split the pork nachos between 4 people because we had dinner plans after and only wanted a quick snack to hold us over. The server brought us out an extra side of pork on the house to make sure we had enough. He was so sweet! He was also really good about bringing us water and taking drink orders in a timely manner. While we were there, a rock band had just set up shop so we also got to enjoy some live music which was nice. I think my favorite part was the people watching because some were really feeling the music...or the drinks...or both quite honestly. This place had the perfect vibe for a summer day trip to Kelley's Island! read more

Amazing bar and great stop at Kelley's but the food is not good at all. We got an assortment of many different appetizers and they were very poor quality- reminded me of food I used to make in my microwave in college. Three stars only because it has a great outdoor space and view of the lake- both are great for kids and they allow dogs, which is cool. That said, service and food were nothing special. We ordered loaded nachos and got a plate of crumbled chips as if it was the bottom of the chip bag. When we pointed it out to the server, he told us to tell him when our plate was low and he'd get us more chips. Server wasn't busy at all (there were only a few people at the bar and we were at a table nearby) but he didn't check back for refills and he forgot some of our order. We stopped in on June 20th 2020 around 2pm/2:15pm. The place was pretty busy but they still had a few empty tables outside and inside. We headed inside sat down and this is where the waiting begins. Our waiter shows up within mins and this is the last timely thing that happened. First thing out of his mouth was telling us that its only him and one other guy so bare with him, Ok no worries. Now the shit storm begins, we order our frist set of drinks (our only set of drinks in 3pm hours!) and food at about 230pm. We kept busy sharing photos of our day then took a smoke break and realized there were more then just 2 servers. We head back inside to find no food no new drinks this is at 330pm almost 1and a half hours later. As we sit back down to wait somemore the waiter brings us food. However this order is not our order. We got all excited for nothing. So now this guys running around trying to figure out whos food this is. 20 mins later and i am sure this food is cold now, the table that came in at about 3pm gets up and asks if that is their food. Sure enough it is theirs. So explain to me how we got there around 2pm ordered around 230pm there was 5 of us and a groups of 8 comes in at 3pm and has their food before us? So now our waiter comes back to apologizes about that not being our food. We ask to order more drinks because remember we got drinks at 230pm and its now about 345pm and we are thirsty. This guy goes back and god only know what he is doing but we still have no drinks and no food. 4pm hits and we are done! So 1 person from our party goes up to the bar where our waiter is and the bar manager who has done nothing since we had gotten here. He calmly says to the waiter we have been here since 2/215pm and we still have no food and have only had one drink. 86 the food and give me my tab. The waiter throws his hands in the air exclaims its not his fault and got kind of shitty. Our person walks away saying just bring me our bill. Maybe 5 mins goes by and the waiter comes back calmly and says i got your drinks, I am sorry for everything. We tip him and leave. This was beyond ridiculous, and we will never waste our time there again after 3 hours of one drink! read more

This was the first place I've ever visited on Kelleys Island and a lot of pitchers of frozen vodka lemonade later, I decided to quit my day job and work here. You'll have a blast here any day of the summer if you like being surrounded by drunk women doing the 'mom dance'. Lake right across the street and a good fun atmosphere. Bands playing all the time and weekend specials such as roasted chicken or a pig roast if that's your thing. A bit far from the downtown area, but island ride taxi will take you where you need to go for a mere $4. There's a more relaxed indoor seating area where you'd probably want to take the children. Although, children are not really welcome here, sorry parents. All in all, a fun place to be. Shots of jager are flowin. read more

Ate here on Labor Day. Very inviting, live music, nice outside patio area facing the lake. They are pet friendly so we found a seat on the patio under one of their many umbrellas. Our puppy was invited with friendly open arms. Our waitress came right away, took our drink order and returned in a timely fashion to take our lunch order. My husband had the Perch sandwich, which was huge and he said it was great. I had the Hawaiian flat bread w pulled pork which was amazing. The waitress kept our drinks full and was running her tail off. Ate more then we should of and left full. We will go back read more

We came for lunch on a summer Friday, so it was starting to get busy. Although we initially didn't see many servers wandering around outside, we were greeted within five minutes. Sometimes the "seat yourself" model is a bit chaotic, but they seemed to have it under control. My husband ordered their burger and I went for the walleye basket. The burger was palatable, but the fish was outstanding. The fries need a little work; a second dunk in the fryer would do wonders. Beer selection was ok. Not as dog friendly as they claim. Walked in to See dogs at bar and seated on patio while some relaxing on the grass. Great! Found the last picnic table in patio area that was not under any structure. Waitress came up stating that no dogs are allowed on patio and told us we would need to move. I questioned why other dogs were allowed on Patio and even the bar! We were told multiple excuses including all of the following: They were friends of the owners; they were the owners; they were co-owners. This was the first impression that my boyfriend seen not only of The restaurant, but also of Kelley's Island. So very unprofessional! What else do they have double standards about? Amazing view. I recall it being better in the past. The beer selection is meh. The service was ok. Nothing stands out here. Oh wait. The restroom was incredible. I'm talking WOW. I like this place because we usually bike up to the grooves, and bike on the west coast of the island to return. We need a place to stop and rest. :) This fits the bill perfectly. Waited for a table ....had to bus our table and wipe it down. Servers walked past us for about 15 minutes or more never acknowledged us. Server was less than friendly...we stopped her and she was rude and said she was busy. After more than 20 minutes we ordered food. I got hamburger. ( black angus) was nothing special. Spinach artichoke dip was terrible. Very disappointed with this experience. Would have given zero stars if I could have. Most of our food came out cold or lukewarm. Out of nine people I only think one person enjoyed their meal. On top of that the service was horrific.
