Jim and Anna Kelly owners of Kelly Plumbing & Heating were outstanding from start to finish. They are a family owned business and it shows in the quality of their workmanship-from start to finish. I obtained several estimates from big corporations to small shops. While not the cheapest bid I felt Jim Kelly planned out our project with great knowledge for HVAC installing. Ours was a big job. We needed a complete changeover of all equipment. We chose a Daikin 5 ton air handler, Daikin 5 ton heat pump, all new sheet metal boots and ducting to each 11 registers . We also used the Kelly team to clean and install new plastic vapor barrier within our crawl space. Mario and Eric, the installers, were fantastic at their trade (their brothers). They have been with the Kelly team for 25 years! That's almost unheard of in our ever changing world. Jim came often to the project to offer support for his install team. Office manager Scott and owner Anna were able to answer my many questions.... The project took a full week to complete. The project passed all inspections with ease. Don't use this place biggest rip off on the planet, I recently had a blower motor on my furnace that was making a loud noise, first off. They charge over $150 for a diagnosis and that doesn't go towards the bill, the biggest thing was when I asked him how much the part was it was a mystery. They weren't gonna give me that information so for the hell of it, I asked the repair man when he came over the same question he also said it's all figured out in the bill. They're not gonna give me a breakdown for the part. I found this to be very dishonest long story short the bill came to almost $1000 and I'm gonna say the part conservatively probably only cost maybe $150. Do not use this place. read more

The Kelly Team was outstanding from start to finish. I had several other proposals but only Kelly suggested putting the outside heat pump units in a more aesthetic and efficient location outside while also putting the air handler in the attic which created more space in the garage where the loud and bulky gas furnace was previously. Even with the extra work, the cost was still less than the other vendors....but most importantly, the installers (led by Mario) were expert craftsmen that put extra care, effort, and pride in everything they did. I could observe at many steps along the way where they could have cut corners if they wanted to, but they always made extra effort to reinforce everything and make it aesthetically pleasing (air handler looks like an industrial art installation in the attic) while also fixing problems created by others in the past (pipes in bad configurations, etc.). Sealing the ducting is also a critical step and this passed the pressure test inspection quickly. Also, during the 7 days of work, Mario explained anything I asked about. Kelly is a family run business led by owner Jim Kelly who plans and scopes every project and oversees the process to completion. I can tell that the employees are treated well as I can observe their pride and contentment in their work and some have been with them for 20 years which is a strong sign of the enduring quality of the firm. After being a first time homeowner for 4 years now, I am finding that larger firms (particularly private equity owned ones or those targeting to be private equity owned) that advertise more and promote fee-based "club" gimmicks along with higher pressure sales tactics to sign quickly, etc. tend to charge more and are more prone to cutting corners, so I will always seek out the smaller, directly managed owner/founder firms like Kelly going forward. read more

Kelly Heating and Plumbing installed a new heat-pump system in our house. They arranged the preliminary asbestos abatement, and then removed the old gas furnace and replaced it with a system that's quiet, efficient and provided much-needed cooling as well as heating, in a house that didn't have A/C before. Their crew was polite, skilled, efficient and careful to avoid damage, and cleaned up thoroughly when they were done. Highly recommend. read more

So I waited a year to post this because I wanted to make sure the huge issue was resolved, which it was although it took many months and at least four visits from their service tech Ryan, and multiple calls, emails, and escalation to Trane. I will share my experience. I had received multiple bids on new HVAC (AC and gas furnace) and then came across Jim Kelly who also bid on a Trane Heat pump plus a backup furnace. There was a rebate on the heat pump making it comparable in cost. He was the only person to tell me about the heat pump option, and I am so glad he did because it was the way to go. Overall, Kelly Plumbing was not inexpensive but not the most expensive. They were fair. This is a top notch system, fully modulating heat pump, variable speed blower and furnace, two zones, and a central Daikin air purifying filter setup that had to be custom adapted to this system. They also did some major duct work revisions. It took five full days. I cannot give enough praise to the crew that installed it: Mario who was lead, Fernando, Diego, and Eric. I also met Ryan at that time as well. I have a lot of experience with different plumbing and HVAC crews over the years over multiple houses and systems. These guys honestly are as good as it gets. Totally professional, on time, neat, high quality work, did not cut any corners. They were just great. I was truly happy.....Until the yellow error triangle appeared that was the bane of my existence for many months. Now Kelly Plumbing & Heating had already been paid in full, but not once did I ever feel abandoned despite a long process of resolution. Not to bore you, but the error indicator had something to do with faulty outdoor temperature readings at the Heat Pump temperature probe that caused switching back and forth between using the local reading or the temperature from the internet which is more representative of the area. It would be crucial to get an accurate reading outside my house because that would be used to direct the heat pump to heat the house vs using the backup furnace I had installed (you can set a temperature threshold for the crossover). So in order to use the heat pump it was imperative that this be working. Over several visits Ryan changed the temperature probe, then tried running a direct wire from the relay board to the Heat pump, then tried putting in a new thermostat. Finally it turned out to be a bad relay board, which when replaced actually solved the problem. Ryan and Kelly Plumbing were fully committed to solving this. Trane had been willing to replace the entire heat pump if needed, which would have been crazy because it was a brand new unit. At one point during this whole process Jim Kelly asked me to contact Trane because they were not getting paid anything to make all these follow up service calls, so I agreed to do that and open a case. At no point did Kelly ever shirk their responsibility to provide ongoing service to get this issue resolved. You know, my life experience which is exemplified here, is that if you deal with the right people and you don't cut corners then things work out. My experience was anticlimactic because I should have been feeling great about the expensive, new HVAC upgrade but instead I was just irked by this brand new install that kept flashing error messages for many months until ultimately they figured out what was wrong and fixed it. At that point it was just sigh of relief not to deal with the annoyance any more, as opposed to actual pleasure focusing on just enjoying the system because it took so long to get resolvEd. I feel that another plumbing company likely would not have been able to solve it or would have given up sooner. Thank you Jim and Ryan for hanging in there in getting us to the finish line. I would recommend this company because they sell great equipment and they believe in it. Because they are professional from start to finish. Ryan Bishop (Service Technician) came to our home to inspect a constant water leaking from a PCV pipe near a window. Ryan found that the main draining PCV pipe was clogged. Long story short, he got the A/C unit in the attic unclogged and operating normal. He was great at explaining everything to me in simple terms. I can't comment on the quality of their work, but I do have an opinion on customer service and communication. I asked for a quote for a new mini split system as part of a remodel. They sent someone out who looked around, explained how they would do the project and he said he would be in touch with a quote. He seemed to know what he was talking about, although he commented about insulation as part of my remodel several times. His plan and design were vastly different from 3 other quotes I received. Unfortunately I never heard anything back. I understand they may not want to take every project and I would be good if they said they didn't want to bid on mine, but that's not what happened here. We had Kelly Plumbing and Heating come out to replace our AC and furnace with new Trane equipment. They did a great job!! Replacing all this may not be a big deal for some but is a really costly project for us. We ended up getting several bids and we are really glad we had Kelly do this job. They did a fantastic job installing the new equipment. Their whole team, both onsite here (2 guys), and the folks at the office were great. They were all professional and helpful. They were on time both days, professional, cleaned up afterwards, and completed all the work listed on the contract. The new AC has been working spectacularly during this latest stretch of hot days!! A few years ago, the 20+ year old furnace in the house we just purchased completely died. It was the middle of the coldest spell Marin had seen in a very long time. It was honestly 40 degrees in my house. Jim and his guys came in and replaced everything with an updated furnace system and we could not be happier. My A/C stopped working today in 108 degree heat. I called at 3pm. Anna said that she had no service calls until next week. When I told her my age, very senior, she said that she would try and call me back. Ryan came at 5pm; diagnosed the problem in 3 minutes as a cooked capacitor. He had one in his truck and replaced it. As a courtesy he also replaced the filters with ones which I had on hand. They saved me from an almost certain heat stroke. I wish that there were more than 5 stars. I had Jim (the actual owner!) come out to give me a quote to rehaul my original 1990's two furnace system. I had just installed solar and wanted something to tap into excess solar production while also bringing much needed air conditioning to the home. Out of all the quotes I received Jim took the time to really think about our home, its location and setup and properly sized a system that matches our home. Some people automatically said we needed the biggest system on the planet without thinking about our home (one level gets lots of sun, one level never gets any sun, etc) Jim suggested the new Trane XV-19 heat pump which easily meets our town's noise requirements and paired it with with the Trane XC95 modulating furnace. Furthermore, we removed two old furnaces and tied them into one system with intelligent zoning. It easily cools our home on 90 degree days while you can barely hear it running when outside. We are looking forward to the winter where the heat pump will warm the house on "warmer days" and the furnace will take over when it gets "colder". Jim also recommended that we consider a 5" Merv 11 filter combined with the Trane Clean Effects. I wasn't sure if that was needed, but I read up on it and found that that Clean Effects does a great job getting out small particles (hello wildfire smoke...) Right after the system was installed we had a few AQI Red days (AQI 150+). I turned the fan on to 100% and let the Clean Effects prove its worth. My home inside AQI went from 75 to 4 in 30 minutes (I am a geek and have a laser particle counter :). Jim was right yet again... Finally, Jim's crew was top notch. The crew leader, Mario, organized everything and kept me in the loop. They had a few questions along the way and were super amazing in dealing with electricians to run wiring to the heat pump as well as other workers I had working on the house. They were super friendly and really know their products and engineering. The install was super clean and a complete pleasure. On Monday, May 11, 2020, Ryan Bishop, a Service Technician from Kelly Plumbing and Heating arrived as scheduled at our residence to perform our annual service inspection for our 2019 Trane 18i Air Conditioner installed by Kelly Plumbing and Heating. Mr. Bishop diligently and methodically performed the inspection tasks detailed in their "Air Conditioning - System Health Report". As excepted, our unit passed their Report. What Mr. Bishop did to our A/C unit that really surprised me was, he actually used a small whisk broom to remove the pine needles that had fallen on top of the unit and then he removed the top of the unit, and then ventured inside of the body of the A/C unit and removed all the leaf debris that managed to get inside of the A/C body. I said to Mr. Bishop. "You are the first person I have ever met, that would do something like climbing into the unit besides myself, to clean out the debris." Which put a big smile on both of our faces. Although my initial experience was a positive one, my water heater repair did not "stick." Within 24 hours of Kelly's first visit, the pilot went out again. I scheduled the next available opening for a return visit, at which time the technician (Ryan) was supposed to replace 2 parts. When he arrived he recommended only replacing 1 part, & since I assumed he knew his trade I agreed. Within 24 hours of this second visit, the pilot went out again. From speaking with the dispatcher, the 2 parts should always be replaced together. I don't know why there was a disconnect between what I was promised & what was done, but Kelly needs to work on their communication process. End result - after having 2 other plumbers out to the house on the following business day (now 9 days after the first problems appeared), plumber #3 replaced a part & the heater is functioning perfectly 48 hours later. Ironically, this is the same part that Ryan was supposed to replace 4 days earlier, but didn't. You can draw your own conclusions. read more

Water Heater is leaking while we are preparing to sell the house. The crew from Kelly Plumbing and Heating has arrived this morning. The clean late model van backs into the driveway and the clean uniformed crew gets ready. Mario introduces himself and goes about accessing the water heater and piping layout and discovers old unsightly pipe tied to the heater that is no longer necessary and offers to remove and cap and stucco patch the couple inch hole as part of the job. " this won't take but a few minutes and it will look nice after it's painted." This was not an upsale but rather a great recommendation that cleaned up that area of dead piping on the house while allowing Mario to show me the attention to detail this job would receive. I got the feeling this is Mario's world and he gets the other guys together with a quick plan so everyone is on the same page and they get after unloading the new and removing the old water heater. I leave the crew in the garage to do their work and I returned in the afternoon and my garage has been left spotless with the new water heater installed and the garage secured. The copper pipe routing is artwork and the whole installation looks extraordinarily professional, the unsightly pipes are gone and 6" stucco patch came out perfectly! That pretty much sums up my experience with Kelly Plumbing and Heating. Kelly Plumbing & Heating installed my Trane furnace in 2013, and has serviced it annually since then. My service technician for the last two years has been Ryan Bishop. This morning, November 2, 2020, Ryan called to let me know he was on the way. A short time later he arrived, and set to work. He worked quickly but not hurriedly. He opened the furnace and the filter box, vacuumed the interior, and ran various tests. At the end he provided me with a checklist showing the results of the tests When I looked in his truck, I observed that all the tools and parts were neatly arranged, and the interior was clean. Ryan was affable, and very professional in demeanor. I will be delighted if he services my furnace next year. read more
