This time I came in with my parents after my wife kept raving about the Dominican chimi and the grilled chicken. We came specifically to try those and, as usual, left completely satisfied. I ordered the chimi and the picadera again, and once more we were blown away. The picadera was stacked with tostones, grilled chicken, fried chicken, fried pork chops, and fried ham. Everything was hot, seasoned well, and cooked exactly the way it should be. The chimi was excellent from the first bite to the last, and the mayo-ketchup tied all the flavors together perfectly. Honestly, just look at the food. I don't know why I even need to keep explaining it. Stop reading the reviews and go eat. Yes, it's that good. Yes, you get real value for your money. And yes, you will walk away full. You're welcome. 5/5 stars.

I quickly consulted The Yelp and found this nice sit-down place, so we came on over and enjoyed a restaurant to ourselves on a Saturday afternoon. (I won't lie - "Ixchel Bakery" caught my eye first for the name alone - but I haven't checked that out yet; we were there for lunch, not dessert.) What caught me first is that the logo sign inside is exactly what Yelp events want. I told them about potentially hosting Yelp events in the future... Anyway, the menu is straight Dominican Republic, and I enjoyed comparing the similarities and differences to my local Honduran restaurant. Some very authentic dishes on the menu here, lovingly and authenticly prepared. We started with a pair of empanadas for appetizer, the res and the pollo y queso. I'm an empanada snob but these have a nice balance of ingredients and flavors, good size for the price. While the mondongo intrigued me, I went with the equally intriguing Yaroa, a Dominican street food with meat and cheese on a bed of green plantains (or fries, if you prefer), topped with ketchup and white sauce. I'm not a ketchup person, but I wanted the dish exactly as it comes, and that's good because it tasted excellent as it came. And it arrived right as we finished the empanadas. The staff were very friendly, but a bit focused on kitchen operations; I did have to flag someone down at one point for a water refill. So that is the one imperfection in an otherwise wonderful experience, and not worth docking a star over. I would absolutely come back here again. The owner was talking potential redecoration, I was talking about trying other dishes - so there are convenient excuses moving forward. :)

We started with the wings in a garlic butter sauce, somehow crispy and very tender. Top 3 wings I've ever had TBH. I got the skirt steak entree and subbed out the beans for tostones. The meat was perfectly cooked and the rice was perfect balance on this side. I did think the tostones could've used a pinch of salt but were very tasty. My bf got the Chicharrón with the yuca fries. The dipping sauce for the fries was next level. He loved the Chicharrón. You can tell everything is fresh. You can easily tell the staff loves this place and takes pride in it, and you can taste that in the food. Will make a trip to Ossining just to go here (the tres leches is calling my name)

I ordered the pollo guisado with white rice and beans and it comes with sweet plantain. I also ordered a tamarind juice. The pollo guisado was very flavorful. The rice was good. I found the beans to be salty. I didn't enjoy the sweet plantains. The tamarind juice was very concentrated. It would be better if it was diluted. There is space to sit down and enjoy a meal. The individual who took my order was very pleasant. I received my meal very quickly. It took approximately 5-10 minutes from when I ordered it. Parking is convenient with metered parking outside the restaurant. Definitely give this place a try if you're in the neighborhood.

Over the years, I've noticed that both the food quality and service have been inconsistent. There have been visits where I left very satisfied with both the staff and the food. However, there have also been occasions when unexpected charges appeared on the final bill, which was disappointing. On this most recent visit, the food was good overall, I'd describe it as average and fair for the price. The restaurant was busy, though not completely full, since they were showing the Brazil vs. Norway soccer match. They definitely have the setup and atmosphere for soccer fans, especially with the World Cup excitement. One downside involved our drinks. We ordered a Passion Fruit Margarita and a Passion Fruit Caipirinha. Since they looked almost identical, we weren't sure which was which when they arrived. The drinks were dropped off by the manager, not our waitress, and he walked away immediately. When we called him back to ask which drink was which, he replied in a slightly ironic tone, "Which one do you think it is?" We explained that was exactly why we were asking as we could not identify. He then said one had sugar on the rim and the other had salt. Unless you're a bartender or taste each drink, that's not immediately obvious. It wasn't a major issue, but I was surprised by the response. A simple, courteous answer would have been appreciated. There was another interaction that left a similar impression. We asked our waitress approximately how long the food would take because we were considering ordering an appetizer if the wait was long. Her response was simply, "I don't know, and I can't tell you how long." While I understand exact times aren't always possible, a more helpful response would have gone a long way. I would have gladly given this place one more star if those service interactions hadn't happened. The food was decent, but the customer service made the experience less enjoyable. I'm not sure whether I'll choose this location again, especially considering it isn't an inexpensive restaurant. I hope they can improve the level of hospitality because the food and for this World Cup season the soccer atmosphere certainly have potential.

I also had a guanabana soursop drink which was nice and cold, if there is an option for more creamy and sweet I would opt for that since it is cold weather. I also had the Salteado mixta with white rice and fried plantain. This dish has beef, shrimp, and chicken and sweet pepper strips. All foods were hot, the Salteado came out on a hot dish which kept the temperature. Overall the place was nice and clean, I sat in at the bar area as seating was easier for one person. I would come back as there are many good options to try. The food was good.

My son and I had the Churssasco, which was cooked to perfection and accompanied with Rice and plantains (Platanos Maduros). We also ordered sides of bean and Papas Fritas (which reminded my wife of the fries her grandmother used to make). My wife got the Arepa de Pollo, which was exquisite. My nephew ordered the Arroz con Pollo, which was great and such a large portion. My son and nephew split the flan between them, they are still talking about how delicious it was. The service was just perfect, the staff were attentive and friendly. The owner even came out to introduce himself and check on us. It was such an all around great experience, I can't wait to go back.
