After the $76,000 roof was installed in December 2025 I noticed that the gutters were leaking. I immediately called and texted Aaron to please come take a look. That text was sent on January 4. For the next three months I got nothing but excuses and a disgusting photo of his infected foot - apparently the reason he couldn't come look at my roof. Finally, on March 27 some guys were sent to repair the leaks. Cut to August 16 when the gutters blew off. Again, I immediately texted and called Aaron who told me that "unfortunately, this was not covered under my seven year warranty because it was an act of God." First, I reviewed the contract which did not state the exclusion. Second, I asked Aaron how he could possibly know that it was neither a manufacturing or installation issue when he hasn't even seen it. He told me the owner of the company would call me. That was a month ago. No one has ever followed up. Both my husband and I have called and texted countless times - at least 10. This company is unreliable and shady. Do NOT use them. They will take your money and walk away without standing behind their product. We paid almost $80,000 to be ignored. If you live in Hawaii you need a reliable roofer. M&R Roofing is the WRONG choice.

My husband called uncle Jes to come by and he sent his brother instead (whose availability depends on his location - he mentioned working on a neighbor island too). His brother came to "fix" our skylight and patched some areas on our roof, which we appreciated at the time. Unfortunately, the issue persisted. We had a drizzle during hard rains; clearly it wasn't fixed. After many ignored calls and no follow-up, we hired another roofing company to address the skylight, along with repairs for wood rot on our rafters & eaves. What we learned from the new roofers was that our roof installation wasn't done properly and definitely not up to standard. Pamalu should have removed the old, multiple damaged layers of rolled roofing (a full tear-off) instead of just overlaying the new one on top. We were advised that, due to this installation lacking a full tear-off, the roof is likely to need a full replacement in the next five years or so. In contrast, during our consultation, uncle Jes stated it should last 20 years and comes with warranty. That's a disappointingly huge gap in expectations. Ignorance was truly bliss and I'm honestly embarrassed about my old review now that we know more.

We couldn't be any happier with the opportunity to have worked with Versatile Construction. From the very beginning, while we had an idea of what we wanted, Alex helped us come to a good design/size requirement, providing suggestions and options along the way. Alex worked with his architect to complete multiple iterations of the drawings (making sure we were happy with what would be built), and also obtained the necessary permits for us. We were also able to use our own mason just for the concrete/foundation portion and there was absolutely no complications with bringing in this third party into the mix; Alex worked very well with him, making sure they were both on the same page and that all was in order for the build. As for the build, we are really satisfied with the results of the entire project, and especially with the way Alex coordinates/communicates and how he works along side his team. He was very upfront with scheduling himself and his team along with the other projects they were managing, but they were always there when they scheduled themselves to work on our house.
