I really wanted to like my cut from here but literally left wanting to cry! I should have noticed that most of the clientele was men and not women. Looks like they do great men's cuts but women's not so much After waiting for 20 min (she has 2 male clients before me) the hairdresser was available. The salon is no frills and a basic setup. Felt like I was still in 2002. I told her I wanted a trim to keep as much length as possible and add some face framing layers. I had a few pictures that I showed her as well. She used a spray bottle to wet my hair. She only had the plastic horizontal combs and was struggling to brush my hair, pulling on it hard and even straight up chopped off a knot because she couldn't comb it out. She used razors to cut my hair and chopped off like 4+ inches in some parts She kept saying how my hair was so thin and then proceeded to thin it out more with the razors. I kept telling her not too much please, not too short, but she didn't listen. She then put some BioSilk in my hair and tossed it around wet and then said "all done!" I was like it's not even dried how will I know if it's even. So I proceeded to dry and style my own hair (I used my own brush that I carry) since she didn't want to do it. I wasn't expecting much for $25 dollars but if you're a WOMAN I would NOT recommend to get your hair cut here. read more

I walked in here on a whim looking to get a gel manicure. Luckily there was only a five minute wait and they were able to do gel. There weren't many gel options, but I found a color that I LOVE. The employees were very friendly and made conversation. This is a low key place with friendly people. If you come here make sure you have cash. Overall quality job and cheaper than most places in north park for a gel manicure. read more

I called an made an appointment. I showed up on time. She examined my nails and I told her what I wanted. She asked me to wait 20 minutes, then asked me to pick a color. I waited patiently. The the wait went past 30 minutes. I continued to wait patiently... Then she told me should could not do my nails. The shop was empty. Great way to keep it that way. This review is for May who cuts hair at the first chair as you walk in the door at Kelly's Salon at 2855 University (near KFC, at Utah and University) in North Park. She cuts men or women's hair - I've been going to her for 3 years or so - She used to be the shop owner of Perfect Cuts near the Army Surplus shop, just behind University ave off of 30th St. May is AWESOME !!!!! I got so sick of going to "Not So Great Cuts" and " Perfectly Sublime Cuts" and those other places who employ hairdressers for about 3 weeks until they get a job somewhere selling hot wings while wearing Daisy Dukes and a sports bra. I've lived in San Diego for 15 years now and got so many crappy haircuts and paid over $20 for them. May charges $11 for men and she's NEVER given me a bad haircut. I can't say enough great things about her. She's thorough and quick without rushing you, and always has a pleasant smile on her face. Thank you May for making me look so much better !!!!! May has been cutting my hair for over 10 years. She is great at what she does. The best of the best. It is a no-frills experience and only costs $11. I usually round it up to an even $20, which is still a steal of a deal. She is a true hidden gem and has probably done tens of thousands of haircuts. You won't get a crappy, straight out of beauty school cut. Give her a try. Highly recommended. read more

LOVE! There are a ton of nail salons in Hillcrest where I live but I will drive down to north park for this place. Joanne is seriously the best. SO friendly and so is her mom. There was a gentleman getting a haircut and he seemed like he's been going there forever. ALWAYS a good sign. Spa massage chairs are great and it's well ventilated so it doesn't smell like a nail salon. Paid $20 bucks for a spa pedi and MAN was it worth it. read more
