Place order everything that was ordered was so dry I mean the cabbages were dry no juice jerk chicken looks burnt ordered the pork chops with gravy no gravy I understand food not being seasoned there are people who are diabetic but to pay almost $70 come on. Will not ever eat at this location again. I don't recommend

Food is so good and worth the trip. Outstanding customer service, cashier was very helpful with the menu and even helped a disable man to his car. Catfish, chicken wings and lamb chops were seasoned so good, didn't need to add the sauce that came with it. Candied yams, collard greens & baked beans were also good. However the small amount of gravy over white rice was not enough, and the muffin was sweet but dry. There's a wait after ordering because they cook it fresh, but worth it. Overall I will definitely return to try something else. Thanks!

Went on a Sunday before work & the wait wasn't long at all, maybe 5-7 mins. Price wasn't bad either; like $11 and a pop came w it too. And yes name brand pop too . I didn't get a chance to eat while hot so I had to reheat. The chicken was good; juicy and flavorful the macaroni is a no for me unfortunately it tasted box & a little saltycould've had some black pepper to tone it downthe greens were bland I tasted no seasonings whatsoever the muffin could've been cooked a little bit longer too. I plan on revisiting & trying something else soon. The customer service is great & plenty of street parking too.

Catfish, yams, mac n cheese..so good and the fish portion was very generous.

I stumbled across this little gem on a drive to Chicago. I loved everything I ordered and even ordered dessert, which I don't usually do. How can you turn down strawberry banana pudding though? Never heard of it but so glad I tried it!!!

This food was so good. I ate it slow just to enjoy it more. It was my first time but I will definitely be back!

I don't give 5 stars reviews! But this place out did themselves!! My friends and I stop by on our way to the lake and BABYYY the tips, catfish fillets, Mac and cheese were everything! I got a catfish dinner with two fillets, Mac and cheese and greens for $13! What a deal! The catfish was seasoned and breaded perfectly. The rib tips, were smoked to perfection with fries on the side.

UNSEASONED CABBAGE AND BOX MAC....I haven't even tried the chicken...just all bad...SOUL?!?!?! WHERE???

They are only open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 1 - 6:45pm (or until they sell out). There is usually a line waiting when they open. Go hoping for a quick turnaround (maybe 20-30 minutes), but be prepared to wait for at least an hour). Today was my second time visiting. I got there around 4pm and only waited a few minutes to place my order. Please note that they do NOT accept credit cards. It's cash, cashapp or two other electronic transfer methods (sorry I can't remember exactly which ones). The owners are SUPER nice!!! I love them! They have a decent sized menu. The soul bowls are a tremendous value!!! For $14.50, you get your choice of protein--no pork--and three sides (greens, mac and cheese and sweet potato yams). For another $4, you can add on cornbread dressing. Today, I waited just under two hours for my order. You can sit in your car or leave if you need to and they text you when your order is ready. When I went in to get my order they had the sold-out sign up, so I encourage you to try to get there at least a couple hours before closing. Now to the food, it is amazing! The mac and cheese is probably the best restaurant mac and cheese I've ever had. It is cheesy with a nice crust. The sweet potatoes are sweet and delicious. The greens today were a little on the sweet side but it might have been sweet potato juice on it. I don't like sweet greens, but last time I had them they were perfect. My favorite dish is the cornbread dressing. Their food honestly tastes like it was made in my family's kitchen. Today I got the fried wings. Crunchy, juicy not greasy or overly salty. Got their Hennessy sauce on the side and yesssss!!!! The food is excellent! The there are as many cars from Illinois in the parking lot as from Indiana. I met a woman in the parking lot who said she drove 40 minutes to get there, waited two hours for her food and then had to drive home. Yes, the food is delicious! If you have a long drive consider finding a place to park and eat your food while it's hot. I strongly recommend!

We went on a random afternoon, there were a couple of other guests there. Our order was taken right away, staff was friendly. We both ended up getting the tenders combo, which was very filling. At first, we wondering if two tenders would be filling enough - but these tenders are huge!! You can taste the difference in them as well, as they are Halal. You taste the freshness right away. Anyway, the tenders combo comes with two tenders, toast, a nice portion of potato salad, fries, a sauce, and pickles. Ranch is extra. Drinks are 99 cents! My brother's only complaint is that he doesn't like his food touching and would've liked that the potato salad not touch the fries mentioning that for my fellow picky people. Back to the food. The tenders were super crispy, spice level was really good. Fries were also really crispy and fresh. Mac and cheese portion was also very big, it can definitely be shared or even just an entree if you add a tender on it. This is a nice addition to the community, although it is a chain restaurant, the quality is very high. The food is very noticeably fresh and it's not greasy or doesn't make you feel bad like other spots might. I recommend you give Byrd's a try!

I saw Kyle V's review and figured it was a good bet as I trust him! The parking lot is a little small but we found space and were welcomed in right away. The menu is massive with tons of options and customizations etc. so it was a little overwhelming, but I went with the melted pot skillet (ham, bacon, sausage, onions, American fries, cheese, and three eggs, served with toast). Nate got an omelette with cottage fries (fried sliced potato rounds) and silver dollar pancakes. The food came out super quickly and the portions were massive. We definitely could have shared one item, but I was pretty hungry. The skillet was very savory and cheesy, and the eggs were perfectly over-medium. I had a bit of Nate's pancakes, and they were fluffy and light. Four meals + tip was around $70 which I thought was very good especially given how much food we got. The menu also includes lots of lunch options, and check the specials board in front for features. Thanks, Kyle V!

There were eight other people in my party who ordered more complex dishes, and they all received their meals before I did. However, I do want to give credit to a young man who stepped in to help, his effort didn't go unnoticed and was appreciated. This wasn't my first time here, and I've heard great things about this place, which makes the experience even more disappointing. We ordered the Black Bullet party pack which comes with two pounds of brisket and two large sides. We went with fries and beans, and also added ribs, mac and cheese, and buns to the order. The brisket is still the star of the show. The spice rub on it is perfect, and it's so tender that it's unreal. The fries are exactly the kind of battered fries I like which was a pleasant surprise because I feel like not many places do them that way. The beans were okay... a little sweeter than I personally prefer, but they had huge chunks of pork in them that I definitely appreciated. We also added two slabs of ribs, and they fell right off the bone. I'm usually not a huge ribs person, but these were well cooked and flavorful. Mom loved them, and that's what really matters. We did have a few small issues with the order. We realized that our mac and cheese was unfortunately missing when we got home. They also ran out of pretzel buns midway through packing things up, so we ended up with a mix of pretzel and brioche buns instead. Honestly, we didn't mind that one too much because it gave us a chance to try both (I'd pick pretzel if I were you). When we picked up the order the place was absolutely packed, so it was hard to be upset over an honest mistake. They were clearly incredibly busy. I still don't really care for the sweeter sauce that tastes heavily like peppers to me, but their vinegar-based sauce (which I think is their original?) was much better than I remember. I'm glad to see this place is still around and still holds up after all this time. More importantly, the brisket is every bit as good as I remembered.
