I was skeptical at first after being fairly new in Georgia and hearing horror stories of restaurant bangarangs The oxtails were slow-cooked to perfection tender, juicy, and falling right off the bone, drenched in a rich, well-seasoned brown gravy that had layers of flavor you can taste in every bite. This is the kind of oxtail that tells you the cook knows what they're doing. I was sucking the bones like it was my last meal. The rice and peas were fluffy and perfectly balanced, soaking up that gravy like they were meant to. The fried plantains were sweet, golden, and fried just right not dry, not greasy. And the steamed greens were seasoned beautifully, soft with just enough bite. What really stood out besides the food, was the customer service. Warm, welcoming, and respectful from start to finish. You're greeted with genuine hospitality that makes you feel like family, not just another order number. i was so excited to experience this restaurant!!! a manager at a store, that I service, mentioned it to me. So me and an employee of the store came i to grab food for the whole store team. After AFTER checking the website attached to the restaurant iMa's listing. (not a third party website). I walk up, greet the cashier. They greet me. I proceed to order, from the menu that I saw on their website. "Can I get the jerk wings lunch special for 7.99?" "We don't have a lunch special." "Oh, on your website it says a few meals for 7.99, is there another meal for the special?" "No, we don't have a 7.99 meal. All the prices went up in October 2025" At this point I'm annoyed and disappointed, cause I rushed to get there before 2pm, again CAUSE ITS ON THEIR WEBSITE. I ended up getting the meal for $14 cause I've already spent half my lunch break waiting to be served. The fact that they did not honor their own prices and had absolutely no notice of a price change, is crazy! Honor YOUR prices, when it's brought to your attention or or just maybe, update your prices on the online menu and or post that prices have went up. PS: prices going up does not mean double. I like Kempers. I do not like Kemper's prices these days. But the food is good so as you see; people come back. The Jerk Chicken is great - the jerk chicken pasta (Made to order) even better. Their brown stewed and curry chickens are also delicious and everything is very flavorful. Their jerk chicken pasta; even a small is enough to give me 2 meals. It's delicious. Their Oxtail? Also good; but the prices make me want to buy a cow instead. Long story short - the food is good, but the prices are high. Recently visited Kempers for the first upon the recommendation of some coworkers and was quickly reminded why I don't take people's food recommendations at face value. The food was just as nasty, if not worse, than the staff's attitude. The prices are ridiculous for the portions they serve you. Remind you this is my first time, so I ordered a lunch plate (see attached image) not knowing what the portions would be like. I frequent several Jamaican restaurants and the lunch plates are normally the same serving size as a small plate, not here. Not knowing this, I placed my order and proceeded to pay. Once receiving my food, I looked and saw three (3) small pieces of chicken and knew that wasn't enough for me so I asked what's the price difference between the lunch and the small plate. The lady told me the price but stated that since I had already paid, I couldn't pay the difference to upgrade to a small plate. She proceeds to tell me that she already gave me extra because it supposed to only come with two (2) pieces. I honestly don't even know if it was chicken or not b/c you can't even tell what part of the chicken it is, it's like they had cut it into smaller pieces. I also paid extra to upgrade one of my sides to Mac N cheese b/c it looked so good --it tasted like water. No flavor whatsoever! Really the only saving Grace, was the curry. I will NEVER go back here, even if someone else is paying, and I would not recommend this restaurant. Oh, but if you do decide to visit for yourself take cash b/c they also charge extra for you to use a debit/credit card. Update: The food is always really good but their service is consistently very slow. They need more people working here. There is one person on register and one person on the food line. When they get an online order alert from Doordash, Uber eats, etc... they now have to balance the long line in the store and filling the online orders. This was a nice find on a cold, rainy day when I was sick recently. I ordered through Door Dash and had a great experience and meal. The lunch specials are super reasonably priced. I ordered the curry chicken which comes with rice and peas plus cabbage. I also wanted to try their macaroni and cheese, coco bread, and sweet potato casserole, so I ordered those on the side. Overall, it was a great meal. The curry chicken had just the right amount of spice for me. The rice and peas with cabbage were seasoned well and cooked just right. The mac n cheese was nice and cheesy - just the right amount of everything and baked perfectly. The coco bread was good; just like a regular sweet bread. I think I'm more interested in trying the patties next time though. Finally, the sweet potato casserole was good, but different than I'm used to. It had a lot of ginger in it, which was refreshing, but I'm used to more of a sweeter American style. Everything was great though. Definitely worth another try. They understand the assignment when it comes to flavor. Everything is perfectly seasoned to perfection. From the food down to the desserts. They are the best Jamaican restaurant in the area. However, the business operations can be a bit sketchy sometimes. I tried to order lunch from there like a week ago on a Monday and they were closed although their business hours said they were open. Visiting ATL for a Spiritual retreat, we chose Kemper's for lunch...and my my my!!! I ordered Curried Shrimp extra spicy with Cabbage and Mac n cheese! It was by far the best Jamaican I've had in quite some time. In fact, if my Jamaican food doesn't have the same level of flavor, freshness and perfect amount of spicy (FINALLY!) when I always request such as Kemper's brings--I just don't want it. The cabbage was cooked to perfection, still having a slight crisp to it--peppers and onions in the curry as well. There's truly an art to maintaining the nutritional value of veggies by not cooking them to Death!! The shrimp--of course, we all know how devastating an overcooked shrimp can be--this was NOT THE CASE WITH KEMPER'S!! Still my favorite go to. They give a lot of food so don't worry about portions. I usually get a medium plate and most of the time I can't finish it. I have had almost everything on the list. The best Jamaican food I've had in Atlanta. I still think the Northeast offers better Caribbean food but for Atlanta, this is solid. I'm still getting used to Atlanta prices and I think it might be that they just price more effectively here than in the Northeast. The same massive plate of food that's ~$22 here is ~$16 back home. I think they're underpriced back home though lol We ordered the curry goat, oxtails, and jerk salmon. All were delicious but the jerk salmon probably won't be a regular item. The plantains, cabbage, rice and peas, and black eyed peas were all delicious sides. As many have commented, the wait can be a little long if you order on the spot, but they have online ordering through Grubhub/Yelp and I think DoorDash, so just be smart and order ahead. Even when I didn't order ahead, I didn't consider the wait that bad - most Caribbean restaurants operate like this, so it is what it is lol. We went here on a whim today and I had to write a review as SOON as we got done eating. This was our first time here and never heard of it so wasn't sure what to expect. It's very mom and pop but it had a nice and simple vibe when you get inside. There were two women working when I went in and they made sure to speak. Not overly friendly but polite. There wasn't a menu anywhere which made knowing what I wanted difficult, but I just figured I could order two plates. The first one I got was a medium curry chicken plate with rice and peas and cabbage. The second was a small jerk chicken with rice and peas and mac and cheese. There was confusion when I went to pay because I told the other lady what I ordered but the first lady making my plate gave me a medium jerk chicken meal and not a small. I was fine with them just adjusting the portion of food so as to not give me more than I was paying for, but it looked like that was too complicated and she just gave me the food without the extra cost. She did seem a little frustrated but I appreciated the customer service. I felt bad about the misunderstanding, so made sure to leave a tip. Because there were no menus anywhere I was a little thrown when I saw two plates cost me $40. BUT you get a lot of food and it was so GOOD! I was shocked reading some of the reviews below because every part of our food was bomb. Full of flavor in each bite and hot. I do think having menus visible could be a huge help. I recently moved to East Point and have been trying out new places. I had my meal delivered for lunch, the delivery came right on time and they did the contactless delivery like I preferred which was a plus. The food was still hot when arriving which is always a concern for me when ordering delivery, I hate having to microwave things... anyway, I absolutely loved everything. I didn't know how the portions were going to be, so I ended up ordering a lot more than I could eat but it was nice to be able to sample multiple dishes. I would suggest that anyone ordering be mindful of this because even if you order one or two sides you'll be full.. I got two sides and an entree, so I definitely have leftovers which is a plus in this case. The cabbage was absolutely amazing. Cabbage done right is one of my favorite dishes but it's always hit or miss. This was definitely a hit, it was flavorful and not overcooked and soggy. I literally inhaled the macaroni and cheese, I loved that it was the baked style and you could tell that it was homemade with a generous amount of cheese. For my entree I had the jerk shrimp pasta which was delicious. I liked the level of spice, not too over powering that you couldn't taste the other ingredients but still spicy like good quality jerk seasoning.
