This spot has been on my radar for quite a while. I'm a native of the Low Country so the name was truly the reason enough for me to pop in. The owner was in the building too and she was very kind and willing to engage about the history of her family's influence. I tried the turkey wing plate with the sausage and shrimp red rice along with the Lima beans. My spouse said the items seemed mixed matched but I felt like it was my prerogative to try the item I want so that's what I got. Everything was delicious. The red rice is a tad different than how my family typically makes it in flavor palette but I enjoyed it. Ours has a little less bite from the tomatoes which is probably just a difference in how much sugar is used to balance the savory. I have to also say, that turkey wing was very tender and the gravy was flavorful. How often is it we see a beautiful color to a tough and tasteless turkey wing??? Well done here. I visited because of a ChimeTime review. It's attached to a gas station so parking may be an issue but there was plenty of parking spaces the day I went. Once you place an order, they will text you once your food is ready, so you can chill in the car if you choose. There isn't a lot of seating in the restaurant. It took a while for my food to come out, so much so that I thought they forgot about me. As soon as walked back into the restaurant to remind them that it had been 30 mins since I ordered, I received a text that my food was ready. I ordered oxtail, Mac and cheese, and greens for myself. Turkey wings, yams, and green beans for someone else. All meals come with red rice. The food was good but they need to tone it down with the salt. It was so good that I ended up eating the other plate as well. The banana pudding was hands down, the best I've had thus far. It is pricey especially if you are feeding a family. The service at this place is atrocious, very rude, unfriendly and unpleasant. We were rushed to order our food, met with bad attitudes when we had a question about sides and yelled at to stand outside after paying for our order. The food is pretty good if you enjoy overly seasoned dishes. But over all pretty subpar. Not much to say about the ambiance, given that it's a very small restaurant, located right next door to a gas station and you have to stand in a line outside before they open. My friends and I arrived well before they open, they opened at 12:00 PM and we were in line at 11:30 AM, the doors didn't open until 12:20 and the employee had a terrible attitude, as if we were in her way or something. As an OG customer of Red Rice, I have been dining here long before the restaurant went viral. I've always known this spot was special, so it's no surprise that the word has spread. With that being said, I let the initial wave of new customers die down before making my return, knowing that the demand for their food is well-deserved. Last Sunday, I had a serious craving for soul food and hoped the line wouldn't be too overwhelming. Luckily, the stars aligned, and despite it being close to closing time, they still had oxtails available--a rare but welcome surprise! Normally, the oxtails sell out fast, but this time, I got lucky. I ordered a plate of oxtails with black-eyed peas and macaroni and cheese and another with salmon, macaroni and cheese, and yams--my absolute favorite combination at Red Rice. Their mac & cheese and yams are unmatched, and I highly recommend them to anyone visiting for the first time. I also grabbed a strawberry banana pudding, which was fantastic. I was really hoping this wasn't another overhyped overpriced food place in Atlanta but alas... i was in the area on a tuesday which is when they have specials so i figured Id stop in. I opted for the salmon with red rice and collards. The cashier was super nice and answered any questions I had. Very little room in the restaurant but there were a couple of tables and chairs inside. The salmon comes with a sauce and I originally requested it on the side which unfortunately I was told couldn't be done. You either get it on the salmon or not at all. I opted to have it left off and regretted it as the fish was overcooked and flavorless. I can tell it was frozen salmon. The greens were ok nothing memorable there. As far as the rice, whatever is used to give it its color does nothing in terms of flavor as it was simply salty and nothing else. Needless to say no need for me to return. read more

I hate giving out 1 star reviews but this place really messed over a lot of people. I came on Tuesday right before the New Year's. This place is only open 2PM - 7PM. I got here around 2:25PM and there was a line wrapped around the building. There were a ton of chatter about it being $12 Tuesday and all the deals they would have when they opened. I waited in line until 2:40 PM and then left. The store was still not open. No information was passed to customers on when they would open. I understand things happen. You can update the hours online and post a sign on your door to let customers know what is happening. You can also simply come to the door and pass along information. read more

I know we have a lot of hero's in this city but for her to get up everyday and Cook and serve a line of customers all day with a smile on her face and still give great customer service. She deserves a round of applause. Now for the food. I had salmon and red rice with mac & cheese. The Mac & cheese melted in my mouth. It was hot and perfectly cooked to perfection. The salmon was seasoned and the red rice gave a blend of flavors that exploded in my mouth. Please give them a try. Just try them out. Don't be discouraged if you see a long line. This place does not even deserve 1 star. First, business hours are 12 pm to 7pm . We got there at 12:02pm. 8 vehicles came and left because Red Rice was not open. At 12:49 the owner came and finally opened the door at 1:02pm. Second, the owner had an attitude and responded when my friend asked in a very friendly manner where she was from hoping to open a conversation as to the history of the restaurant. She responded "New York" with such a horrible attitude. Then continued to tell us to step away from the counter while we were waiting for our orders. Third, the servings are child-like portion servings, very small!!! Who puts back rice after putting a spoonful in the container, for real, which in fact gives you 1/2 spoonful of rice (a cheap food item) as a serving. Fourth, my friend tasted the turkey wing; it needed to be cooked more as it was not completely done and had no taste. At that time I walked to the counter to cancel my order. I was told I can't do same as the food was already prepared. Mind you the food is pre-made and then served as you order so there was enough time to not fix my order. Fifth, the owner with a nasty attitude told me that by law she owes me nothing as she has a 'no refund, no exchange' policy. That's fine but what's the owner's responsibility when the food required more cooking and especially, taste? Needless to say I will not be back. It's unfortunate that the customers who were there came because of Mr Chime's IG and FB reviews of how good the food is and he highly recommended this place. Well the video he showed of the turkey looks NOTHING like the turkey wing we bought. My people, let's not support businesses like this, let's hold them accountable to do BETTER. Today is new years eve. Its 10 minutes before closing. I purchase a plate with 2 sides. As I sit down in the high top chair, I informed the cashier (rude lady looks to be of Caucasian persuasion) tells me that I cant change my side(which are already premade) please note that are about to close. Are you guys reselling the food the next day??? The owner comes out to tell me it's their policy that no changes can br made and refund is not an option. I took my order and informed and told Gentleman that the key to running a professional business is REPEAT SALES. I let him know that he just lost a customer. He was very respectful the whole time. Red Rice is a Black owned business constantly growing that I found out about from a family member. They recently served the community with giving away large portions to those who needed it as well as just establishing a presence on social media. Unfortunately with all the rave their biggest downfall for me was the wait time. Despite it being the middle of the workweek, it was over an hour wait time for a platter. Multiple guests in line to order had decided to ultimately leave as the lines were not really moving. During the wait time, their team began to run out of many items listed on their menu--primarily proteins. They allowed any guest who ordered an item to select another at no charge. The owner herself, handled the crowd well by nicely asking a few people to wait outside as the group indoors was well over the permitted capacity by law and thanking everybody for their patience as they figure everything out. Quite hungry once I received my dishes, I dug right in as soon as I could. I ordered a turkey wing plate and a lamb chops plate. Each come with three sides including their rice automatically. Their main specialty, the red rice was decent to me. It wasn't bad or amazing, just right in the middle. Again, this comes with every platter so there wasn't much customization to be done here. The yams are delicious. The perfect amount of sweet and they are cut nicely to enjoy. No marshmallows are on top, for those who do not care for that. The lamb chops were a bit smaller than I expected but the flavor didn't disappoint. The collard greens were not too salty which I appreciated. The turkey was smoked nicely. My relative said she thought it had a bit of a kick but when I tasted it, I didn't feel the same. The macaroni & cheese was delightful and I recommend to those who don't mind the dairy. Overall, I would and do plan to return to the restaurant. Physically, the location is extremely small so I would advise others to be prepared to wait in your car because not many can be inside at one time. I tried this place today because my friend said it was hyped up on instagram... please don't believe the hype. My salmon was bland/unseasoned. The red rice was salty. The yams were hard and needed to be cooked longer. The Lima beans and smoked turkey had not one piece of smoked anything let along turkey in them, they had salt in them tho. Came in on a Sunday night with my 15yo son. The owner and her daughter were soooo nice to both of us. They let us sample the red rice and peas & rice and gave us the backstory of the restaurant. Before we ordered, the owner Denise explained that most of her entrees are made to order so it would be a 15 min wait. Everything is to-go so got home and plated our meals because upon a quick taste, it was too delicious to eat out of a plastic container!! I was an avid supporter of Red Rice, until I attempted to give the owner feedback about the rice being too salty, and the phone call was "abruptly" disconnected, after I was told, "I cooked the rice and didn't add salt to it". I didn't want reimbursement or replacement, I wanted to provide honesty. My son ordered the previous day and communicated the same to me, about the rice. I called because I didn't want to leave a review, but since there was no accountability or acknowledgment, I changed my mind.
