I waited over an hour for my food, and when it finally came out, it was cold -- not even worth taking a picture. The staff moved very slowly and didn't really communicate with customers unless you asked to cancel your order. I always try to support Black-owned businesses, but I also believe service should match the experience. The staff even left the restaurant a couple of times to buy ingredients like avocados, plantains, and bread, which caused even more delays. They left a menu outside we sat at the two chairs outside and study the menu. They had us at oxtails tacos. We decided to walk into and saw a beautiful scenery. We got seated and looked at the menu. We were wondering how the bill got higher after paying plus tip. Apparently, they added 18% service charge and we added tip on top of that not knowing about the service charge. We were not informed about any services charge!! It wasn't even on the machine. Thinking we added tip and that's it. Never will we come back and now we know to get itemized paper bill before paying. I ordered takeout from MoBay Spice and was really impressed with how clean and classy the space looked when I stopped in. The décor feels elevated and modern, and the music was playing at a nice, chill volume. The customer service was also great, friendly and attentive even for a to go order. We tried the Salmon Rasta Pasta and the Oxtail Rasta Pasta. Both dishes had a nice kick and the salmon was cooked perfectly. The protein portions were on the smaller side though. The flavor was there, but it felt like it needed a bit more depth. It wasn't bland by any means, just missing that extra layer of saucy island flavor that would've taken it over the top. read more

The food took an hour and it was not as packed as it could've been. It took about an hour to get your appetizers once order and then another 30 min for our entrees and 3. This was my second visit to this restaurant, and unfortunately, I was disappointed once again. During my first visit, I had the Jerk Chicken wings, and to my horror, there was still blood in them! Determined to give it another chance, I decided to order the Salmon dip this time. While it was okay, it was incredibly watery. I asked the waiter if this was normal, and she assured me it was. Service is horrible. All of the servers are huddled behind the bar on phones. After seating myself I actually had to go up to the bar. I guess since their 18% is included they don't have to work. I was so looking forward to eating here after several people raved about it. Not impressed at all. The Salt Fish fritters were lacking fish and full of grease. The Hawaiian wings had no flavor. I ordered brown stew chicken and packed it up. I really don't know what it tastes like. The best part of this experience was the Rum Punch and the young man who cleared the table and who was more attentive than the waitress. We tried giving him a tip but he said he couldn't take it. You don't feel silly dressing up , it's free parking, the ladies greet you with a smile, the service was pretty fast (it was pretty empty that night) and the lighting is so good for pics . Ok the cons . The food is INSANELY overpriced. In total we had 2 drinks, 1 appetizer, 2 main courses. The bill was $140.00, it is a mandatory tip but still coming from the northeast where a large oxtail dinner is $18.50. Don't get me wrong it was good! Cabbage was cooked to perfection, the oxtail fell off the bone, I do wish it had more gravy . The drinks were decent. We got the salmon dip for appetizer and we didn't care for that. Very watery for a dip it was more a vegetable dip... my girl also liked her curry chicken meal. This place is absolutely beautiful. The decor brings you into an elegant piece of art. It's island vibes make you feel right at home. We were greeted with a smile as soon as we walked in. We were escorted to our table and immediately our waitress came over to elevate the experience with politeness and ease. My cousin and I (Jamaican) heritage felt very welcomed. We ordered the Oxtail tacos and the fish cake fritters to start. Both were really good. We also ordered the rum punch and the love language cocktails. They were also good. We proceeded to order our entree's. I ordered the jerk pork with white rice and cabbage and my cousin ordered the escovitch snapper. That came with choice of rice and festival. All were good but there is one hang up that made it less than excellent. My cousin is restricting her intake of rice and asked if that could be substituted. The answer was no and if she didn't want the rice she could order and pay for another side. So she decided to keep the rice. It unnerves me when a simple substitution could have been made but as for many Black owned restaurants this is a normal occurrence. It's almost like they force you to eat what you don't want to eat and that is a nuisance. I guess throwing away a full bowl of rice in the wake of a $40 plate and food scarcity is ok in this economy but it doesn't sit well with me. We were pretty full and asked for to go containers which was rather small to fit a whole fish but my cousin made it work. The waitress came back to the table and said oh you're not taking the rice. Well ummm no as my cousin didn't want it in the first place. We thanked her for her service and left. I can say I would go back but I think they could do better on substituting. OK look this is really a five star review but I never gave anybody really five stars but I'm a tell you Mobay spice is amazing. I had the fried fish Esco beach and my daughter had a steam fish. Oh my goodness both dishes were immaculate when they came out the presentation was absolutely beautiful when I bit into the flesh of the fried fish. It was so moist and tender and flaked so beautifully I can't even begin to tell you and the peas and rice. It's as good as when going to Jamaica this this is real Home cooking and I had festival for the first time which is a fried bread. It's a little sweetened and it can be eaten with anything or even paired with the sauce for dessert. I had a Bob Marley, which was a bit too strong for me, but I drank it and my daughter had a Beachbody, which was delicious. I can't recommend this restaurant enough our server Ashanti was so attentive and so very nice. I was very happy. The atmosphere is relaxed and elegant. This is a mid price restaurant, but it does have some higher end meals that could hit your pocketbook a little bit, but it would be well worth it because everything that I've had here so far is top-tier. The portion size is enough to share with at least another person.. We had whole fish so we will be taking fish home to eat gladly, but this is a good place to come for a date or a girls night out even if you're just by yourself. This is a nice nice place to come and relax and chill. They're playing island music or what Americans would consider island music but this is very very apropos for the restaurant. I've passed this place on occasions when they're closed but I had time today and stopped in for lunch. Immediately I walked into a tranquil Caribbean atmosphere with the decor, the music and smell of good food. Not a large place but just the right size for a bar and several tables. I was greeted with a welcome in & told to sit where I want. I chose to sit at the front by the window to get a view of everything. I was on my lunch hour so I opted for the jerk chicken tacos and a side of fried plantain. No cocktail today - just water. I did see other patrons drinking and enjoying their libations. Presentation was excellent and my food came out quickly. The flavors were delicious, a side of jerk sauce for some extra spice and my plantains were served hot out the pan. Overall, Ashante was a great server who provided some conversation and asked if I'd give a review - of course! Last night I got in town late but wanted Jamaican food and Mobay Spice was the closest option. We ordered at the bar to go and the ambiance was nice. I could see myself returning just to sit at bar. There were multiple tvs and great music. The person who took our order was very polite and fast. I ordered the Rasta pasta with salmon, coco bread, and sweet plantains. My husband ordered the jerk burger and fries. Our food was very hot, fresh, spicy and delicious. I forgot to take pictures because I ate it way too fast. I'd been looking forward to trying Mobay Spice for a while and decided to stop in for lunch recently. The restaurant is fairly "cozy" and has a few high tops outside. I ended up sitting at the bar. The bartender was very attentive. I browsed the menu prior to arriving and knew exactly what I wanted to order. I chose the rum punch for my beverage, mango habanero wings for an appetizer and oxtail with rice and peas for my entree. The rum punch was good and strong. The wings were ok, but I was expecting the flavors to be more bold. The oxtail platter was a generous portion, but lacked flavor and could've been more tender. The rice and peas were bland as well and the cabbage was ok. While I did enjoy my time here, I can't say that I would return because I can't justify the price. This was my first time at this venue. It is on the first floor of a strip mall and you won't be able to see it until you are in the parking lot. I sat at the bar. The bartender was great. Very talkative and made great recommendations. I ordered the Oxtails with rice & peas, and cabbage. I got my oxtails extra spicy and that was an experience. It was Friend Day Out and Mobay Spice was the restaurant of choice. I'm so glad it's in the Toco Hills Plaza as there is ample parking... Upon walking in, the space is very quaint. There is a nice vibe to the overall ambiance and the overall feel is very inviting and pleasant. After taking in the ambiance we headed to the table for 4 as it is a seat yourself type of setup. Though the space isn't wide, they did a great job with positioning the table and chairs to ensure you don't feel crowded. Our waitress greeted us with a warm welcome and menus as soon as we sat down. As I am a lover of Jamaican Food, I was super excited at all the classic offerings and intrigued by such offerings as the Jerk Burger... say whaaaaaaaat! As the waitress arrived back a few moments later, perfect timing I might add I was ready to order. I ordered a Beef Patty as my appetizer and the Jerk Salmon Entree. I swapped out the potatoes that come with the entree for the rice and peas. As we were waiting for our food, the music kept us upbeat and made for such a dope space of engagement. All of the staff who encountered us smiled and spoke which was such a great service experience. Kudos to the team. Once the food came it was an immediate OhMyGosh Moment! The plating was beautiful and the food looked Bombbbbbbb. Beef Patty - classic patty. The meat was well seasoned. The crust was flaky and buttery. Furthermore, the jerk sauce wasn't too spicy as it allowed for you to truly enjoy and savor the flavors presented. Rice and Peas - One Word... FRESH!!!! I mean a different level of freshness. The rice tasted like freshly cooked rice. The peas were authentic and perfectly done. The combination of them as one was moutpleasingly outstanding. Again, neither outshined the other. Each of them held their own and they were married together so well. Great flavor and again, amazing freshness. Steamed Cabbage - Ooh Chile! This cabbage was different. I think it's the way it was shredded or something because babeeeeeeeeee. This was some of the best cabbage I have had in my whole life. Fresh. Seasoned. Not too hard. Not too soft. This was my 1st time visiting and it will be my last. I ordered jerk wings but they didn't look anything like jerk wings. I received grayish looking wings that appeared to be boiled. I did not attempt to eat them. When I asked the waitress about substituting for something else she informed me they have a no return policy. Wow! What a great discovery today. Somebody had a taste for Oxtails and since it was his Birthday I searched - and found this Gem. When you walk in you're greeted warmly and made to feel most welcome - since it's been snowing and cold the last couple of days it wasn't terribly busy. The decor felt great - took me back to Negril and the fun we had there a few months ago - feels nice to sit back relax and enjoy a cocktail. There is a nice Island cocktail menu - I had a "Wynter Breeze" (Rosemary Vodka, Casamigos, lime juice and Ginger ale) it was cool and refreshing, just right for today and a perfect accompaniment to my delicious creamy Rasta Pasta - I added Jerk chicken and what a "smack" just the right amount of spice, with fresh peppers and broccoli- I would most definitely get it again. My partner had Oxtails with Rice and peas and steamed cabbage. I tasted his too and it was delicious- he loved it - the awesome thing about the food was not only was it delicious it looked beautiful too....we eat with our eyes first after all. We Tip Toed In and Fell In Love. We decided to try this little place and oh my we are still talking about it five days later. We decided to order off the Bar Menu because we were dining a little later in the day and had dinner plans. A larger glass with a small amount of ice and a LOT of fresh Passion Fruit juice was delivered. It was really tasty...best we have ever had. We expected small portions of "Bar Food" and were totally surprised when they arrived...they were huge. The Jerk Chicken Tacos were stuffed with so much jerk chicken and tomatoes, onion, peppers and an amazing mango salsa. All of the tastes melded together into perfection. They were served with a side of jerk sauce which made them really spicy. It had such a good flavor. The Jerk Pork Sliders were equally as good. They were huge. Served on excellent brioche buns perfectly toasted and filled with goodness. The jerk pork was delicious even tasted by itself.
