I ordered takeout from MoBay Spice and was really impressed with how clean and classy the space looked when I stopped in. The décor feels elevated and modern, and the music was playing at a nice, chill volume. The customer service was also great, friendly and attentive even for a to go order. We tried the Salmon Rasta Pasta and the Oxtail Rasta Pasta. Both dishes had a nice kick and the salmon was cooked perfectly. The protein portions were on the smaller side though. The flavor was there, but it felt like it needed a bit more depth. It wasn't bland by any means, just missing that extra layer of saucy island flavor that would've taken it over the top.

Service charge and we tipped 20.00 because the server was really nice. The food was so awful had to take it home and fix it up.

**2nd Review**. Run don't walk to check out the brand new renovations at Mobay Spice. We went to have lunch as we enjoyed the first time and man........they have expanded. Double capacity. Chic model interiors without compromising Caribbean flavor. Extended bar capacity and full length bench seating. The place looks awesome. Once again I rocked the rasta pasta while the wifey had goat and my daughter had the oxtail mac and cheese. Great service, great ambience. We will definitely be back. Congrats on the renovation. THEY ARE BACK OPEN!! Go support. Zero regrets.

Four stars because 1. The service could've been a little better and friendlier, I find that when gratuity is included service is subpar and 2. The food took an hour and it was not as packed as it could've been. It took about an hour to get your appetizers once order and then another 30 min for our entrees and 3. The drinks are $18 which is expensive. HOWEVER!! the food was some of the best Caribbean food I've had. The jerk sauce is great ! The frozen Bob Marley was great as well. I would go back despite the long wait time and lacking service. Ambiance is very aesthetically pleasing!

Deeelish!!! I can't even begin to pretend to be an authority on Jamaican authentic cuisine, but what I can say is that this place was super damn tasty. The portions were a good size, and it was super fun to order a few dishes and share them! So happy I finally tried this local spot. Excited to go back! We went at lunchtime and got in and out smoothly within the hour. Service was decent.

    More inside

Let's start with the good, the ambiance is so good, it's beautiful in there. You don't feel silly dressing up , it's free parking, the ladies greet you with a smile, the service was pretty fast (it was pretty empty that night) and the lighting is so good for pics . Ok the cons . The food is INSANELY overpriced. In total we had 2 drinks, 1 appetizer, 2 main courses. The bill was $140.00, it is a mandatory tip but still coming from the northeast where a large oxtail dinner is $18.50. Don't get me wrong it was good! Cabbage was cooked to perfection, the oxtail fell off the bone, I do wish it had more gravy . The drinks were decent. We got the salmon dip for appetizer and we didn't care for that. Very watery for a dip it was more a vegetable dip... my girl also liked her curry chicken meal. The waitress was nice but when paying I confirmed tip was included because the little payment machine was asking for an extra $30 or so, she made a comment that it goes to the house and they have to split it , I'm sorry but I wasn't paying close to $200. I'd go back but probably for drinks at the bar and maybe an appetizer.

This place is absolutely beautiful. The decor brings you into an elegant piece of art. It's island vibes make you feel right at home. We were greeted with a smile as soon as we walked in. We were escorted to our table and immediately our waitress came over to elevate the experience with politeness and ease. My cousin and I (Jamaican) heritage felt very welcomed. We ordered the Oxtail tacos and the fish cake fritters to start. Both were really good. We also ordered the rum punch and the love language cocktails. They were also good. We proceeded to order our entree's. I ordered the jerk pork with white rice and cabbage and my cousin ordered the escovitch snapper. That came with choice of rice and festival. All were good but there is one hang up that made it less than excellent. My cousin is restricting her intake of rice and asked if that could be substituted. The answer was no and if she didn't want the rice she could order and pay for another side. So she decided to keep the rice. It unnerves me when a simple substitution could have been made but as for many Black owned restaurants this is a normal occurrence. It's almost like they force you to eat what you don't want to eat and that is a nuisance. I guess throwing away a full bowl of rice in the wake of a $40 plate and food scarcity is ok in this economy but it doesn't sit well with me. We were pretty full and asked for to go containers which was rather small to fit a whole fish but my cousin made it work. The waitress came back to the table and said oh you're not taking the rice. Well ummm no as my cousin didn't want it in the first place. We thanked her for her service and left. I can say I would go back but I think they could do better on substituting. All in all the experience was good despite the one hang up!

OK look this is really a five star review but I never gave anybody really five stars but I'm a tell you Mobay spice is amazing. I had the fried fish Esco beach and my daughter had a steam fish. Oh my goodness both dishes were immaculate when they came out the presentation was absolutely beautiful when I bit into the flesh of the fried fish. It was so moist and tender and flaked so beautifully I can't even begin to tell you and the peas and rice. It's as good as when going to Jamaica this this is real Home cooking and I had festival for the first time which is a fried bread. It's a little sweetened and it can be eaten with anything or even paired with the sauce for dessert. I had a Bob Marley, which was a bit too strong for me, but I drank it and my daughter had a Beachbody, which was delicious. I can't recommend this restaurant enough our server Ashanti was so attentive and so very nice. I was very happy. The atmosphere is relaxed and elegant. This is a mid price restaurant, but it does have some higher end meals that could hit your pocketbook a little bit, but it would be well worth it because everything that I've had here so far is top-tier. The portion size is enough to share with at least another person.. We had whole fish so we will be taking fish home to eat gladly, but this is a good place to come for a date or a girls night out even if you're just by yourself. This is a nice nice place to come and relax and chill. They're playing island music or what Americans would consider island music but this is very very apropos for the restaurant. It's it sets the mood beautifully if you are in Atlanta, come over to Mobay spice and enjoy yourself and Merce yourself in the calm greasiness of this place. It's a whole vibe.!

The restaurant is decorated very well and the seats are so comfy. My friend and I had an amazing time. The food was affordable and also really good. I enjoyed the beef empanadas as well as the jerk pork. Our server was great as well.

I've passed this place on occasions when they're closed but I had time today and stopped in for lunch. Immediately I walked into a tranquil Caribbean atmosphere with the decor, the music and smell of good food. Not a large place but just the right size for a bar and several tables. I was greeted with a welcome in & told to sit where I want. I chose to sit at the front by the window to get a view of everything. I was on my lunch hour so I opted for the jerk chicken tacos and a side of fried plantain. No cocktail today - just water. I did see other patrons drinking and enjoying their libations. Presentation was excellent and my food came out quickly. The flavors were delicious, a side of jerk sauce for some extra spice and my plantains were served hot out the pan. Overall, Ashante was a great server who provided some conversation and asked if I'd give a review - of course! I stayed a little while to work after my table was cleared and the lunch rush came to a close. The tunes were on point with a mix of old and new reggae hits. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying more of the menu for date nights.

This review is long overdue! Sorry Neirah! You and the entire staff were amazing. The food and customer service was a 10/10 experience! My friend & I ordered family style, so we shared the Oxtail Tacos, The Rasta Pasta, & the Curry Shrimp ... let me tell you, not a single flaw in their recipe! The food came out just right, from the seasoning, to the spice level, to the texture ... Mobay Spice has it down to a science! I used to live in New York City so my standards for good Jamaican food are pretty high & Mobay Spice exceeded my expectations. Easily the best Caribbean restaurant I've been to thus far in Atlanta! Keep being awesome guys! & once again, special thanks to Neirah! You were amazing & I hope to see you all back again soon!

Rice and peas and jerk chicken take out,
    Kerry S.

Ok Mobay Spice this rice and peas and jerk chicken was on point!! I didn't realize the restaurant was back open for sit down so I went for takeout. It looks nice inside and I'd definitely return for a sit down meal. I was craving some back home fried chicken but that's not on the menu, so I had the jerk chicken instead. The rice and peas was exactly how it is in Jamaica, and the jerk chicken was very good. Generous servings as well, I had left overs.

    Oxtail Tacos

Neirah was a wonderful server. Very pleasant and kind. I had the oxtail tacos and plantain. What I did was cut up the plantain and added it to the taco. The sweetness paired with the savor of the oxtail is a good balance! Try it you won't be sorry. Your welcome .

Do they have any vegetarian options or will they be expanding their menu to include at least one veggie-friendly option?

The whole area actually looked like it had gotten a refresh since the last time I'd been around. There's a massive shared parking lot, and finding a spot was no problem. Once we parked, we followed the signs, walked through a courtyard, and found the entrance. Inside, a sign pointed us to the left, where we walked up to the counter and were greeted with a warm welcome. We grabbed a menu and quickly reviewed it. They don't offer flights, so we each ordered a couple of half pours. I went with a hazy and an IPA, while Wifey chose a watermelon pilsner and a lager. We placed our food order at the same counter--Wifey went with lemon pepper wings and mac and cheese. I ordered six spicy wings and a side of coleslaw. They provided an order number stand, we grabbed our beers and headed outside to a high-top table made from a barrel. The food came out surprisingly fast--they brought our trays right to the table. Everything looked great, and once we started digging in, the flavors backed it up. My wings had just the right amount of heat, and the coleslaw was a solid pairing. Wifey really enjoyed her wings too, though she said the mac and cheese could've used a little more flavor. Before leaving, we grabbed a couple more half pours. Wifey liked the watermelon pilsner so much, we ended up taking home a six-pack. It's pretty much a self-serve setup once your food arrives--you bus your own table, grab your own wet wipes and water, that kind of thing. It's a casual setup, so no big deal there. Out in the courtyard patio area, families and kids were everywhere--enjoying the "green" space, playing games and hanging out. I definitely noticed a diverse crowd--younger, older, from all backgrounds--everyone just enjoying the day. It truly felt like a space where all are welcome. We had been in this part of Decatur many times and I never heard of it. We took the quick 5 minute ride over and I realized we had passed it many times. I think it had a different name last I noticed. As we approached I noticed the nice sized parking lot. A quick estimate, it could hold about 40 - 50 cars. I quickly found an open spot and walked over to the entrance. We entered and I could see the host walking toward us. He greeted us warmly, we let him know we were a party of 2 and preferred to sit outside. He informed us we could head out there and pick our own seat. We walked through the dark interior and headed outside using the side door. We found a table at the end of the patio near the front of the restaurant. There was plenty of outside seating on their patio and many of the tables were covered or had an umbrella. It was a little cooler than I expected so I ran back over to the car to pick up my jacket. I returned to the table and our friendly server came by and asked if we were ready to order. We were happy to see they had an extensive beer menu and I chose the Hi-Pitch Mosaic IPA from Hi-Wire brewing and Wifey ordered the Harp Lager. For food, we kept it simple and decided to share the Pork Nachos appetizer. Our waters came out next, and then the beers came out soon after. As we were hanging around and enjoying the patio I noticed the place was very dog friendly. The Pork Nachos arrived and were excellent. It was not a huge portion, but the perfect size for what we were looking for. The chips were crispy and the pulled pork was seasoned well. All the ingredients worked well together. I'm 6'0 and felt like a kid sitting at a bar where I have to raise my elbows.
