Most "un-salony" hairdresser I have ever been to!! The hairstylists - I have had two people cut my hair - Amy and Kenna, and Madison for highlights - have all been great. They listen to what you want but will also help guide you if you aren't sure. Everyone at Kennaland also seems to work on fashion sets and celebrity shoots - which isn't necessarily a look you might go for but its gives you an added confidence in their ability. I also really appreciated their follow up a few days after my appointment to make sure I still liked the color even after I had washed and styled it. They seem to be offering discounts for people in the area or friends of friends - which made the price much more reasonable than I had paid in the city. Its an amazing setting- with lots of quirky things to play with and look at. Good music and and good wine too - which I have never had at a hairdressers before. Lots of interesting people coming in and out of the door - some who just seem to come and hang out. Overall great haircuts are a given - but its the relaxed atmosphere and orginal setting that would make me come back rather than going to a regular salon. read more

I'm so glad I found this gem of a salon! From the moment I walked in, the energy was warm and welcoming. The space is clean, modern, and has a relaxed vibe that immediately puts you at ease. My stylist really took the time to listen to what I wanted and offered thoughtful suggestions without being pushy. I came in for a cut and color refresh, and left feeling like an upgraded version of myself. The color is exactly what I was hoping for--rich, dimensional, and natural-looking--and the cut has just the right amount of movement and shape. What really stood out was the attention to detail. From the scalp massage during the shampoo (amazing!) to the careful blowout and styling tips, you can tell the team here genuinely cares about their craft and their clients. Prices were very fair for the quality of service, and I never felt rushed. Bonus points for easy parking and online booking! It can be really tough to find a solid and non pretentious salon in NYC. I have been going to Madison for almost 2 years for the best single process and highlights i have ever had on my blonde hair. She always takes her time and I swear every time I get compliments from friends and strangers for like 2 weeks afterwards. The salon itself is great. Laid back, yet professional, and just a tiny dash of hipster. I have gone off and on to the students at various professional studios and i just hate the feeling of the students always being watched closely and often criticized. I don't see how one can really learn and grow that way. Kennaland isn't like that at all. Madison is amazing with color and can do a full variety. I went to Lauren for a cut and she listened intently and gave me exactly what i was looking for. Fun music, nice place to zone out, and just an all around comfortable environment. From start to finish my experience at Kennaland was exceptional. I came to see Natalie based on a recommendation and I'm happy to say I was not in the least bit disappointed. She is extremely detail oriented, professional and a true gem! After my consultation she left me reassured that my hair would be taken care of. What I really appreciate about her consult is that she took the time to consider my skin tone, lifestyle and hair goals. When the day came for my appointment I was greeted by the salon manager Julia, who is amazing, and made me feel welcome. She also went out of her way to accommodate me since I am handicapped; also with appointment dates. I was there for a color correction and even though I was at the salon for hours I felt happy and calm. Of course the most important piece to the review is the end result - and it was fabulous! My hair looks healthy, bouncy and shiny. This was the best salon experience I have had. read more

I started to go to Kennaland about 6 month ago - and never been happier with a salon. It was smart move of taking my thin, and dull-looking over bleached hair to the expert hands of Madison. She is a great colorist; I can always trust her judgment and expertise. Color after color, my hair has only gotten better and better. If you are looking for funky/pastel colors she is the person to see! I also started to cut my hair at Kennaland with Amy - she is really friendly and makes sure to ask what you want, while at the same time making sure you look good with your hair type. Such a wonderful place! The ambiance is charming, the interior design is exquisite, the people are the sweetest and coolest, and the talent is immense. I've always been weary of getting my hair cut (separation anxiety) but LOVE the haircut I got today. Dennis gave me an amazing haircut last week. I have wavy/curly hair and struggle with haircuts, but I felt totally heard and I left feeling so excited about how I looked. I was a little nervous that I wouldn't be able to replicate how my hair was styled after I washed it, but it's continued to look great. I follow Alex wherever he goes and I just LOVE, LOVE, LOVE what he does with my hair! My highlights are just out of this world, he has such a sense of style and feeling for what looks good on you. He's a true artist. I don't even live in New York, I actually work in Africa, so whenever I'm going home I make sure to stop in New York for a few days to get my hair done. Kenna, the owner, is truly a gem of a man and he has created a salon in Greenpoint that feels at once super cool, and totally comfortable and accessible. The stylists are all great (my husband got really great cuts from Davey) and the space is just so f*cking chic. I wrote to Bibb ahead of my appointment to describe my hair, my current style and what I did and didn't like about it. Bibb gave me a skillful cut that tamed the texture. Madison is a very talented colorist but she cuts my hair too. She listens very carefully to me, so I'm always happy with her judgment.
