The Kennedy & Perkins optical shop (on Whitney Ave. in Hamden/North Haven) has the best selection of cool eyeglasses I've ever seen! They even have my favorite brand, the quirky Theo brand from Belgium (slogan: "Theo loves you!"). Siran is a FABULOUS optician! She's a great advisor regarding which frames go well on a particular person, and she is superbly skilled and patient at getting the eyeglasses adjusted just right. I am so glad to have found her! Have used them for exceptional service for decades. They have a great selection of frames and have a very helpful staff. Siran, in particular has been very helpful all these years helping me to find frames that compliment my face ( since I'm very nearsighted and cannot see well enough to judge on my own. This time I used their optometrist when the RX I got from my opthamologist was still leaving me struggling to see clearly . She was knowledgeable and took her time. The exam was very thorough. I applaud the quality of service that I have always gotten from the staff at the North Haven branch. I've just recently had to rely on their service and expertise and they came through above and beyond my expectations. I would like to single out Siran Kasbar Dietz as a very caring Optician who has always been there for me and sometimes I was amazed at the results she provided me as a customer. I've worked in the customer support business for many years and I can only wish that I could have someone like Siran working on my team. The bottom line is you get what you pay for, but Siran is the reason why I always go to Kennedy & Perkins for my optical needs! The eye exam I received did not match the standard of ones I've had elsewhere. I got my eyes tested again 3 months later and was given a completely different prescription, which seemed more accurate. They also did not provide separate prescriptions for contact lenses verses glasses (I've previously always been given a weaker prescription for my contacts compared with my glasses). I requested they send me a copy of my prescription on numerous occasions, which they have failed to provide. They couldn't even be bothered to answer any of my emails. Very uncooperative, poor service, would not recommend at all. If you are a Yale associate, I was suggest going farther afield. Don't go here just because it's convenient. read more

My family has been coming to Kennedy & Perkins in Hamden for more than 50 years and we have always found their care and service to be exceptional. As others have mentioned, Siran Kaspar Dietz has been especially wonderful to work with. She is responsive, very patient, and nothing is too much trouble. I am particularly grateful for the care she has taken with my 93-year-old mother in this past year. You may be able to get glasses for less money at one of the big chains but you'll never get the high quality of care, attention and final product that you will get at Kennedy & Perkins. High quality designer frames with an attentive staff. This is the only place I've gone for frames for years now. I used to go to the downtown location when I lived in New Haven and they were great too. My young daughter wears glasses as well and the staff always takes the time to make sure we're 100% satisfied. They were very understanding when she was rough on her frames and needed a repair - and adjusted my frames for free when they noticed I was a little off kilter. I use K&P as an example of excellent customer service at my own place of business all the time. read more

My experience with Kennedy & Perkins has always been outstanding. At my latest visit, Siran gave me the best possible service. I was having lenses put into old frames. She treated me like any customer buying more. In addition to taking her time to ensure I was happy, she was respectful of my budget. I did not have the money to buy prescription sunglasses, and she found the perfect clip-on lenses to solve the problem. And there was no pressure. This quality of service is why I continue to go to Kennedy & Perkins, and I am grateful they are in my neighborhood. read more

WARNING! Management does not seem to be in control of attempted price-gouging here. I don't believe I have left a review on Yelp before but think I need to report this. On Friday, May 26, 2017 I took my new prescription to this convenient Hamden branch of Kennedy & Perkins, which I had been told was a reputable local chain. Was received at the door by a friendly woman (no waiting) and taken to one of the desks in the splendidly appointed showroom. She examined the prescription and my old glasses (good quality, progressive etc. lenses in good quality frames). She pointed out wear on the old frames and recommended getting new ones with the new lenses. She found new frames that were satisfactorily almost identical to the old. She then jotted down three numbers that added up to over 900 (I seem to remember 920 or 940) and, perhaps seeing my expression, she then produced a calculator and took 15% off as a "special discount" to quote me a price of a little under $800. I protested that I had never paid so much for glasses and she politely and sympathetically explained that unfortunately prices had gone up a great deal recently. I had never before haggled over price for my glasses (as I have had to do for, say, my cars) but, by two further steps, I got her down to $598.50, which - one-third off the original $900-plus - seemed to be a resistance point. I told her I would have to think about it. So I went to check at a less conveniently located but recommended store on Chapel Street, New Haven, and, to cut a long story short, ordered new frames (looked like the same) and new lenses there. I did not question the price, which was far (really far) lower than K&P's "bargain" $598.50 (let alone $900-plus). As I said, my visit to K&P Hamden was on May 26, and I have delayed this Yelp review as I wanted to make quite sure first that the Chapel Street optician delivered as promised. I can now (June 15) say that the new lenses and frames have proved perfect and that the professional, friendly Chapel Street optician has been a pleasure to deal with - and has a happy new customer. Maybe the glasses from K&P would have been great too but how can K&P management fail to control staff who engage in such unconscionable attempted price-gouging? (I am ninety years old and a bit decrepit, so maybe I looked exceptionally gullible?). read more

I've dealt with the Kennedy and Perkins store in North Haven for many years now and I must say I've never had a bad experience and I've purchased many eyeglasses/sunglasses in this store as well as relied on Siran and the other staff members for periodic free adjustments. Siran is always friendly, courteous and goes the "extra mile" to make for excellent customer service experiences for both me and my wife. Today, for example, she fixed a broken stem on my one pair of glasses that are starting to age and get brittle. For something like this I expected to get charged, but she was adament about not accepting any payment. She said it was such an easy repair that she couldn't accept money because I've been a loyal customer over the years. I wish more merchants would follow this lead!! read more

I recently went into the Kennedy and Perkins location New Haven. I was with my 88-year-old mother who is bound to a wheelchair. As I was going into the store the sales associate greeted me and I explain the fact that I may take us a while to come in due to my mothers physical condition. The associate "Siran" responded "do not bother your mother. I will go out and see if I can fix her glasses." That is what she did. She fix both my mother's glasses without bothering my mother at all. This is the type of establishment the people should shop at. They had a beautiful variety of glasses, and obviously a staff that had empathy and professionalism above the rest. read more

There's a treasure at Kennedy-Perkins North Haven that I feel fortunate to have discovered. The treasure is Siran who was recommended by a good friend. Siran exceeded all my expectations. My new eyeglasses were ready today, and I couldn't believe such quick service. Siran greets anyone walking into the store with the most sincere, friendly, courteous, and excellent attention. Last week, I looked around and saw several frames that were appealing, but really didn't know how to select a proper frame that would not only look good, but would also be versatile and enhance my appearance and personality. After speaking with me for a while, Siran brought out a few different frames. The first one I tried on was exactly what I wanted. Knowing that the correct eyeglass frame can enhance my appearance, I'm happy to know that Siran is there.
