I listen to employees complaining about other employees, the atmosphere was very uncomfortable. the staff was not warm or friendly. I had a very frustrating experience at this Pearle Vision. I paid $60 for a contact lens training without being told about the fee beforehand. After completing two separate training sessions, I was promised that a different brand of contacts would be ordered and shipped to my home because the first ones dried my eyes out. That was over three weeks ago. I've called multiple times over the last three months and kept being told I'd get a call back -- I never did. When I went in person to ask about the delay and requested a refund since I haven't received any usable lenses, I was told no. I paid for a service and product I never received, and I've been left chasing them down with zero results. This has been a complete waste of time and money. I do not recommend this location -- customer service is terrible and follow-through is nonexistent. read more

My first time at Pearle vision, and probably my last. The receptionist was extremely patient and kind but the doctor, not so much. She was extremely abrasive and truly did not seem to be a caring person. She rushed me through my appointment and made me feel like I was a bother. This place was a joke from the incompetent doctor to the unknowledgeable staff. After several visits and an issue at each visit (double booked at every appointment among other things) and too many to list in this review. I finally had to request a refund for the contact lenses I had already paid for. I was suppose to have one of my prescriptions emailed to me, which I doubted I would get, and I was right it never showed up. They billed my insurance for the exam and now I have to go somewhere else and pay for everything out of pocket. But, I will say that I prefer this than to keep trying to deal with these people. I am so disgruntled that I have also contacted the CT. Department of Consumer Protection regarding this office. Ive Worn glasses for 50 years. They did not do a complete eye exam and were rude and dismissive when I stated you charged me parts of the exam you didn't do ?? The Front Staff was a mess !! They never called when glasses were ready and heard several others having problems with appointments and calls as well in the short time I was there waiting. Eddie needed to take care of other customers as they walked in while he was taking care of me and I sat waiting several times for more than 15 minutes at a time. I finally just left. This office asked my husband and me to come 15 minutes before our appointment, which we did. However, for both of our appointments, we were seen 30 minutes after our scheduled appointment. Additionally, we had errors with our contact order and after the high expense of the visit and quoted contact amount, we decided to make our purchase elsewhere. The office was extremely disorganized. My husband and I walked into pearl vision and we were immediately greeted by Cynthia who welcomed us in and guided us to the back of store. We had appointments but there was a wait (no complaints) the doctor was attentive and thorough . When we were finished we were directed to go to Cynthia to pick out our lenses. My husband and I were both dilated so we wanted to be sure that we had clearer vision to pick the frames that we wanted. She was in agreement with our decision to wait so she Went through the insurance to see the coverage, etc.. l left our paperwork with Cynthia and returned to pick out our lenses. I visited this store to have my glasses fixed today and Eddie did a great job in fixing the. He is very customer friendly. However, I cannot say the same for Marjoram, an associate, who was on the opposite end of the spectrum as Eddie. She was abrasive, abrupt, and has no skills when dealing with customers. I wish I could leave 0 's. Absolutely horrible experience. The woman at the front desk, Lucy, was wonderful. So kind and helpful. After my interaction with Lucy everything went downhill. I waited 20 mins for my appointment, and the optometrist could have not been any more rude. She cut me off every time I talked, and didn't care to hear what I said. She told me to hurry up contacting the Fairfield Pearle Vision, where I was obtaining the type of contacts I wear (even though I had already waited /9 mins to be seen) She yelled at the woman on the phone so rudely that the woman hung up on her. I felt so terrible about the interaction that I immediately called Pearle vision in Fairfield, after my appointment to apologize for the behavior of the optometrist located at the Hamden Pearle vision. Not only was she rude, she also had me use four devices to blow air in the eye, take a picture of the back of the eye, etcetera, and instead of using the disinfecting wipes, which were next to the tissues and the hand sanitizer, she chose to use one single tissue with hand sanitizer to clean all four machines with one single tissue. Definitely not sanitary at all. She then let me know that I needed to order glasses immediately through the store due to my "insurance allowance." I was in a rush and told them I would call back. Once I called back it took over two hours for the woman, Dorothy (?), to find my insurance, and once she found it (even though they ran my insurance for my eye care visit) she let me know that I only had 35% off of eyewear, not the $200 to $300 that the optometrist claimed I had to spend Long story short is I would never go back to this Pearle Vision in Hamden. I have been to all the other provisions, including milford and fairfield, and they were both wonderful. My experience with this Pearle vision in Hamden was beyond horrible, disrespectful, and I will never give them my business ever again. Steer clear of this "establishment." Also any previous 5 star or four star reviews were for an optometrist named "Eddie", who no longer works there. Instead it was a small woman with short grayish/blackish hair. Had a lovely time with my eye doc, he was kind, and funny. Did a thorough eye exam. Kept me at ease. He was very understanding of my "special" needs as an aging pianist and electronic musician: slightly unusual distances for reading music. He was also very sympathetic with my hatred of "progressive" bifocals. I was relieved when he didn't try to aggressively push them on me, unlike the last few eye doctors- whom I said "bye-bye". Although there are optometrists much closer to where I live, it's so worth it for me to drive the 12 miles to Eddie Elias's Pearle Vision in Hamden. The store itself is welcoming: clean, bright, a great selection of eyeglasses frames. I am always taken quickly, and the entire staff is knowledgable, friendly, and savvy about what looks good on you. They clearly want to keep your eyes healthy and your vision the best it can be. Came here to hopefully get a quick exam to order contacts. Waited about 30 minutes before seeing the doctor. During my exam, the doctor asked me multiple times regarding my ethnicity and then asked me if I had ever gotten "the covid." I'm not sure how that's related to my eyes and especially as a front line worker who has been in the MICU since the beginning of the pandemic, I was a little thrown by the questions. Was then trying to order contacts but for some reason, they couldn't place the order. So the office said they would give me a call to place the order via phone. No one ever called, so I had to call them back. While doing this, I started looking into my bill. They charged me for the retinal exam, which I specifically said I did NOT want to do. They also charged me EXTRA despite having insurance. They did refund me once I brought this up, but again, I was the one that noticed I was overcharged. After a whole morning of figuring this out, I finally got in touch with someone to help me place the contact order. They were going to charge me over $500 for the contacts, which ended up being over $250 with insurance (on top of the eye exam bill which was over $100). I have bought the same contacts for the past few years with the same insurance and have NEVER paid that much. I reached out to Total Vision North Haven, from whom I had ordered the previous year, and proceeded to order with them and paid $60 for the same contacts!!! I would have paid $200 MORE for the same contacts at this place. This place will overcharge you. Would not recommend at all. read more

The employees go above and beyond to make sure that you are happy with your frames/lenses. They do everything they possibly can to make sure you pick the perfect pair. Eddie is always kind, attentive, and helpful to make sure that you leave with a smile on your face! The doctors are also very helpful and efficient to make sure that you get the right prescription! First and last time dealing with this vision center. We arrived 8 minutes late due to fog, holiday traffic and GPS issues. We called at 12:20 to let them know we would be arriving late for our 12:30 appointment. We walked in at 12:38 and was escorted to the back of the business to fill out paperwork. After filling out paperwork, talking with an associate about history and handing over insurance card they THEN informed is they would not be able to accommodate us because we were 8 minutes late for the appointment. My husband who has some difficulty walking and uses a cane informed them we were stuck in traffic due to it being new year's eve and a Saturday and extreme fog. They could care less, mind you No one had entered the building for an eye exam after we entered and he was filling out paperwork and talking with an associate for 15 minutes. We asked if we could wait they refused to even attempt to fit us into their schedule. Didn't matter we were driving for 40 minutes to get there, all they were concerned about is that we were 8 minutes late so instead of telling us that when we arrived which would have been the decent thing to do, they felt the need to keep us for am additional 15 minutes filling out paperwork just so say. "Sorry" We left and I immediately cancelled my eye exam that was due in 2 weeks. I'll find another business that isn't petty and is professional. The professional thing to do would have been to notify us over the phone they wouldn't be able to accommodate us if we were late. The professional thing to do would have been to let us know when we checked in to say they wouldn't be able to see us because we arrived 8 minutes late. The professional thing to do would have been to not get petty and try to waste our time after we arrived but I guess that is hiw they run their business. Adios Pearle Vision I'll take my business elsewhere. If you work in health care and were previously heralded a hero for being a first responder, do not come here. There seems to be some discomfort with seeing medical care providers who are potentially exposed to covid even if they answer all screening questions in the negative and are afebrile. We are all exposed to covid daily, medical care provider or not. If you do not feel comfortable adequately performing your job because of health concerns, which is understandable, then don't come in. Then, to ask that I bring a copy of a negative test to my next visit, implying that I, even if asymptomatic, should have an invasive test performed to have a less than 30 minute eye exam completed. No need to worry, there won't be a next visit. read more

I'm a Yale graduate student and was excited to take advantage of the Eyemed Vision plan that was offered to us this past year. I spent five years in the same frames and prescription so I needed a change. I had my eye exam done for free at the Yale Health Plan (not covered under the plan). Based on the positive reviews and bountiful selection of frames online, I decided to go to Pearle Vision in Hamden. Upon entering, I was immediately greeted and asked how I can be helped by Dianne. I told her I was looking for new frames, so we agreed that I'd try out glasses on my own then she'd check up on me in a bit. After trying on several frames, I started to feel overwhelmed. Dianne came back and asked me what style of frames I was looking for. I said I wanted something comfortable yet stylish and that I was interested in the half-framed glasses w/in a reasonable price range. She started pulling glasses of that style for me to try. I tried on the pairs that she suggested and kept the few that we both thought looked nice, but I wasn't totally in love with any of them. She found a few more pairs of that style and then BAM!! I ended up finding a pair that suits me :) The half frames are black and classy and the sides have a pink swirly design with a 'C' for Christine (really for Candies, but it works!) Perfect! The service was terrific. Dianne was both patient and friendly, and I believe she gave me her honest opinion. She broke down the price of the frames and the lenses. Since they accept Eyemed, the total cost was less then $200! New frames and lenses can cost $500 or more. They let you pay half up front, then the rest when you pick-up your glasses. The whole process took less than an hour. When I was done paying, I had an additional question about lenses. The manager, Eddie, was also very friendly and was happy to answer any questions that I had. I highly recommend Pearle Vision for great customer service and a wide selection of frames! read more

Nope, not ever going back. Got eye exam, picked out frames and waited anxiously for my new glasses. They came I wore them, i couldn't see. I went back several times, told me They're progressive and I needed to get use to them (This is my 4th pair of progressive glasses, I think I know if i could see or not) finally they moved the script down on my lenses, still couldn't see right. Ended up retaking the eye exam and the doctor changed the prescription. So in bad to pay 40.00 for exam and another 107.00 for then lenses, and I already paid 700.00. I said the prescription was,wrong and I didnt feel as though I should have to pay anything for the new lenses. Told meci was,paying a fraction of the cost. Still can't read well with these lenses, yup done with pearle vision for sure read more

This store overcharged me for my glasses and lens and did not honor the discount that I should have received from my Insurance. According to my insurance I am supposed to receive a 30% discount on lens and frames from Pearle Vision. The discount was verbally acknowledged at the store, but not actually applied to my bill. My bill was further messed up as a different model frame was listed on my bill than what I received and it cost me more than they should have. There were also less than clear charges that the Hamden Pearle Vision was never able to explain despite my repeated inquiries. They appear to have charged me for 'the thinnest possible lenses' (key for me as I have a high prescription) but did not deliver on that. Communication via email with the location is not easy. They used 3 different email addresses seemingly at random including pearlevisionhamden@gmail.com, pearlevisionhamden@yahoo.com and pearlevisionhamden8146@yahoo.com. I would receive an invoice from one of these addresses, and the subsequent emails from different addresses. I wish I had gone to the Milford, CT Pearle Vision instead. I only realized this after my glasses had broken and I went and revisited the Hamden CT store to get them fixed. Please note that I have tried to work through the Pearle Vision Customer Service to get money refunded to me and the customer service told me after several emails back and forth that this particular location (the Hamden CT location) is privately owned and so they are unable to enforce any resolve other than what the general manager offers. Even though customer service acknowledged what was done to me on the phone was not OK they are unable to help me in any form. Things were further complicated when my frames broke and I went back to the store to see if they could be fixed. I met with Eddie Elias, the owner, who told me that my frames had to be replaced, that I would have to pay for it, and that I would not pay more than 50% of the price. As the original invoice was unclear I was unsure what was 50% of the price I paid and I could not get answer out of the store when I asked. I asked the store to contact me with a price when they determined how much it would cost. Instead they contacted me seven days later they had ordered the replacement frames without contacting me or telling me the price. I decided to contact Pearle Vision Customer Service as I was not getting any of my questions answered through the store and go to a different Pearle Vision store as I needed my frames fixed right away. The Milford CT Pearle Vision could not decode the bill I received from the Hamden Pearle Vision and informed me that I had gotten thicker lenses than what they would have likely offered me (1.74 versus 1.67). After trying to utilize Customer Service to intervene, the final offer I received from Eddie was the offer of a refund of $14.96 (which I have still not received), the replacement frames for free and $50 store credit. I have not accepted the store credit or the free frames simply because I had already paid for the replacement frames at the Milford CT store and no longer wish to do business with Eddie Elias as I do not think he was honest to me. read more

I've been a customer here for years, and have never been provided with anything less than first-class service, care, and attention. On this particular visit, I arrived near closing. Eddie, the manager, was as helpful and friendly as always, hanging back far later than could have been reasonably expected to help prepare my glasses on the spot. I never mentioned the urgency because I didn't need to - Eddie and the rest of the staff were fully committed to helping me regardless of the late hour. I'd already paid, and Eddie could have easily asked me to pick my glasses up the following day, but he didn't - he remained until they were ready for me to take home. They put them together within an hour and the lower rating really was for the second half of the visit (fitting with real glasses). Was not greeted when I walked in and had to wait a long time before the person who was working (yes, she saw me) finally gave me the time of day. When they called when the specs came in, I didn't have it. But then when I called them back when I did have it-they acted like I was never a client...despite paying $100 cash. Went there for prescription glasses but the staff was so helpful and the selection so large that I went for prescription sunglasses as well. Competitive prices too. I've read some other reviews here that seem to have problems with the doctor's office within the store. That is not the same business, although I liked them as well. We made an appointment after discussing insurance. Once the the doctor on duty doesn't take that insurance. They told us the glasses would be ready on 2/19/14. They of course were not ready on time. They kept saying they would call, I called 2 days later and they said they need the frames to put the lenses in an it would take a maximum of an hour. We'll since it has been 2 hours. I think they are just really good liars. I have told many people. I will tell as many as I can. I know it will not happen again. I will not be going back. I chose to go to Pearle Vision based on other positive reviews. I had already had an eye exam and was just shopping for glasses. I was helped immediately upon entering. The saleswoman I dealt with, Rebecca, helped me select a frame and was wonderful to deal with. The service was excellent. I highly recommend Pearle Vision for your eyeglass needs! Update: I had to return because the coating on my glasses was defective. I had such great service initially purchasing my glasses I thought surely this wouldn't be an issue. The service was iffy. I was told the glasses would be ready in an hour. I told them that I would just come in the next day. I was told they would be ready. When I arrived 24 hours later, they were not ready. They weren't even started. The next day I called first (got smarter) they still were not complete with no explanation. They were finally done the the next day. Furthermore they wanted me to pay for something that was clearly a defect and attempted to charge me even more than what my insurance would charge. I will not go back. read more

Came here the other day in a rush to get a new pair of glasses after losing mine. The woman helping me could not have been nicer. She was super indulgent as I tried on maybe as many as 7 or 8 pairs of glasses and helped me stay within my budget of $275 for lenses and frames. They were able to get my prescription faxed from my hometown branch in Georgia, make the lenses, and fit them in the frames in just two hours from the time that I walked in the door.
