Being a single woman it is intimidating to bring your car in to be fixed but front the moment i stepped in the door I was welcomed with a friendly smile and was given an honest assessment of my car. Since my first time there I have have brought several used cars in to be looked at before I purchased one. Very, very honest mechanics here. I spoke with Chuck and he basically prevented me from buying a giant hunk of crap car and (more importantly in my opinion) explained WHY it was not worth buying. He even gave me an estimate of how much he thought the car was worth and told me that it was definitely not worth what the local dealership (that rhymes with Noto Zone) said it was. Even offered to get another car checked out for free. Amazing service. Cannot recommend them enough. read more

Girls and mechanic shops! As a female, I am use to getting swindled by mechanic shops and taken to the cleaners on price. A coworker suggested I take my car here and I was skeptical. I called to make an appointment and they could see me after 5pm, which is a plus, as I work until 4:30pm. They were busy, but was able to diagnose the problem and let me know how much it would cost and when they could do it. The front desk was friendly and attentive. The mechanic kept my car clean and explained to me the issue, ( in terms I could understand.) When I got my car back, they had done a thorough inspect and advised of future preventative maintenance. I am glad I found uptown, and they don't try to take advantage of a woman. read more

Been here once so far to fix part of my exhaust pipe that had come apart after I had an incident where I spun out and went over the curb of a divider on an expressway off ramp. The owner, Chuck, is a really awesome guy, and that reflects well in the way he runs his business and his mechanics. He won't charge anything up front until he and his boys have taken a good look at the work that needs to be done and will show you exactly where the problems are on your car. Thanks to that, he also noticed that the trailing arm of my rear passenger wheel suspension had gotten messed up as well, and took me into the shop to let me look at it myself and showed me the rest of the work they were gonna do. He also offers really good prices for the work. The weld needed for my exhaust was only $60, and he also replaced my passenger side rear tire for a straight $100 including installation. Replacing the trailer arm was a bit more expensive, a little over $100 each for the part and labor, but it was a reasonable price to replace a vital part. They also took quite a bit of time to get everything done, but it was understandable, considering that they had to bring the part and replacement tire in from different stores. Overall, I was very happy with the experience I had with Chuck and his guys. They're honest, reliable car mechanics, and Chuck genuinely made me feel like my satisfaction with his job was his top priority. You don't see that very often today, in any kind of business. I'm definitely going to bring my car in to Chuck's place more often. read more

We've lived in Maywood for a long time and always heard from friends what a reliable, honest and reasonably cost place this was. Well, we finally gave up on our dealer after many years and not so honest service and brought it to Uptown. It's a family run place with names like Rosie, Chuck, Randy and Bryan whom with felt comfortable with right away. Highly recommend this place as well as their other company that does repair work on 1st Avenue near North Avenue called 1st Auto Body. Due to Covid oil change places are booked out weeks in advance. Couldn't get car in anywhere and needed an oil change ASAP for a last minute trip to Indianapolis. Called Uptown Garage at the recommendation of my brother and they saw me same day and was in and out within 30 minutes of arrival. Best in service for sure. This garage is every scary story you've heard about concerning auto repair shops. I was trying to help my nephews wife fix her car and put in a new thermostat unfortunately I put in the gasket wrong and it had a small leak which they took full advantage of. When she picked up the car they charged her $155.00 for a ten minute job. I should have stayed home and did the repair a second time myself. but I needed to get to my appointment. She asked why it was so much money and they made up a story about how much work it was. To do this job you simply take off one water hose and then 3 small bolts and thats it. When she asked for the old parts back she was told they had cracked in half and they had to throw them out. WHY was it necessary to throw them out? Then they said the part was put in backwards. Nope can't happen. The part won't fit into the hose so it could not be backwards. Again another lie. I thought in Illinois they were suppose to ask if we wanted the old parts and then produce them if wanted. This place will take your money fix your car then charge you too much for doing so. Beware they will lie if necessary so watch very carefully what is said and if by chance you go there for a repair that you already started DON'T. Figure it out yourself or go to any other shop because they will swindle you. read more

This is by far the best garage that I have ever been to. My husband, 2 boys and myself were in Chicago from Ontario, Canada for the week of August 31st on vacation. The one day we took our car out, was to pick up tickets for that night's Bears game. While on the highway the temperature gauge started to stick on hot and the air started blasting out hot air. It was already 100 degrees that day so no air was my concern but the increase in temperature in the engine was the real problem. Our GPS gave us the option of Uptown or another spot. We liked the sound of Uptown so hoped our vehicle would make it there! The owner was so hospitable, he even gave my boys a cold drink. It was 3:30 in the afternoon but they told us to come right in and they would have a look. They were able to fix the problem, quickly and at a very good price. They even had to get a part brought in and still had us on our way by 5:00. I don't think I would have gotten it fixed at home for this price. While there waiting my husband was worried because he needed to get the tickets for the Bears game, the owner let him borrow his car, no questions asked. We were complete strangers not even from the area but he didn't even hesitate! This crew is the best I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with and I would highly recommend Uptown Garage to anyone looking to have their car serviced. read more
