The BEST BEST BEST customer service, in the service dept!!! I've come to expect mediocre customer service these days, so when the customer service is excellent, I am so taken aback and giddy. That's what happened to me at this Pep Boys. Now, I've been here once before, and received the same treatment from another employee, so this was not a one-off. The headlight was out on my car, and yeah, I could probably YouTube it and attempt to change it myself, but that just seems like something I would never ever do. I didn't want to get a ticket, so I stopped here on my way home from work. Now, the location is tucked away, and you really can only see it if you are on top of the bridge on Cicero. It is kind of behind the Aldi/WalMart. It is worth looking for and stopping in. I was in and out in about 5-minutes. The cost was beyond fair, and much less than I expected to pay. I believe Elias was the name of the gentleman that took care of me. He was honestly one of the nicest people that I've dealt with in a while. It was at the end of his long day, and he was in the middle of fixing a car, but you'd never know it. I walked out of there feeling so happy and satisfied, with a smile on my face, knowing I wasn't ripped off and knowing I will be back for any future needs. I highly recommend! read more

I made an appointment to come in last Friday to get 2 rear tires. I asked for my tires to be rotated. Little did I know that my right rear passenger side tire that was leaking air regularly for the last several months would be placed on the front passenger side. How could they actually replace my right passenger front tire with the defective right rear tire? I called on Monday 3 days later with the complaint that my alert on my dashboard indicates that the front passenger side tire is down more than 10 psi!!!! I called Pep Boys and was told to come in and they will "take a look at it". I came in the same day and told Ivan that I believe the defective tire was moved to the front. I am experiencing the same dashboard warning that I previously had with the passenger rear tire that was replaced on Friday. Ivan checked the front passenger tire and told me that there was a loss of air around the stem that he repaired. Ivan assured me that I would not have anymore problems with that tire. Now today is Thursday in the same week and guess what? I got another alert on my dashboard indicating low pressure in the front passenger tire yet AGAIN! I called the store after I got time at work. This time I asked to speak to the manager. He said "bring it in and I'll take a look at it." I initially asked to have one of my old tires put back on Monday but Ivan glossed over that. Now I am asking the manager to do the same and he says those tires are gone. I am a recent widow and do not want to stop and put air in my tires every other day!! That is why I replaced two tires. For the last three weeks, Pep Boys has been one of the worst customer-service experiences I have ever had. I purchased TWO batteries through Pep Boys. Neither solved the problem. I then spent money on a crankshaft issue. That didn't fix it either. My vehicle has since STOPPED DEAD ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FIVE TIMES. I am disputing all applicable Pep Boys charges. It is my position that products sold to me were outside the manufacturer's date and/or ineffective for their represented purpose. I am preserving documentation of these transactions. And somehow, Pierre, their Area Manager, made this nightmare even worse. By the time my issue reached Pierre, I had spent money repeatedly and been left stranded. Instead of resolving it, PIERRE HUNG UP ON ME THREE SEPARATE TIMES. Pierre has been extraordinarily arrogant, dismissive and condescending. I cannot understand how someone who treats customers this way is an Area Manager. An Area Manager should resolve problems. Pierre became another one. I want Pep Boys corporate leadership to review Pierre's handling of this complaint and, if these calls were recorded, LISTEN TO THEM. Explain why an Area Manager hanging up three times on a paying customer who has repeatedly been stranded is acceptable. After three weeks, I'm left with two ineffective batteries, a crankshaft-related expense that solved nothing, FIVE roadside breakdowns, disputed charges, and an Area Manager who hung up on me THREE TIMES. Got there on time and they tell me they can't take my appointment because they only have 2 technicians and only 1 can work on A/C and has 2 cars ahead of me. They offer no solutions but to come back later in the week. It's 93 degrees out with Canadian fire air. Allegedly, their systems have no way of telling what the customers are coming in for. So, I have a rental car from Hertz I pay $300 weekly for. I broke down due to a bad battery...on Labor Day holiday. The only repair folks open in the Hertz network were these guys. I FIRST call to confirm they have the battery IN STOCK before I bother to go there. A guy there says he does and that he can have me back on the road in 45 minutes. I go there only to have him tell me he was wrong. He says he'll order one, have it in 30 minutes, and that I'll be on the road in an hour. I sit in their waiting area for THREE hours with no update. I go to ask him what is going on. He says they replaced the battery and billed Hertz, but also found other issues on my electric car...bad tires and bad remote battery. He tells me the noises my car has been making will go away if I get new tires and alignment. He then asks me to return early the next morning for the work, but warns he lied to Hertz telling them only one tire was in stock when he really had both. He asked I keep that lie going to them if they call to ask me. I ask him why the lie and he tells me they were closing early for the holiday, and didn't want to start the tire replacement that late in the day and that if Hertz knew he had both and approved the order, they'd make him do both same day. I oblige, and show up there first thing next morning per his request. He's not there, but his manager is. He tells me his worker misinformed me...and admits he often does this to clients...they have no such tires there. But he can order them, have me on the road in an hour, and promises to post me as I sit in waiting area....for a second day. I wait for an hour and a half with NO updates. I see my car still in their parking lot...they have not touched it still. Now the guy from the day before walks in for his daily shift and sees me. HE then explains the REAL hold up is that Hertz has not yet approved the tire work...despite him telling me the previous day they had. Another lie. Apparently, Hertz was mad at him for jumping the gun and taking the liberty of putting that costly of a battery in the day before into my rental car. I tell them, at this point, I have to leave and come back, because I've wasted too many work hours over the last two days sitting in their waiting room. I then catch the guy from day before jumping in my car and speeding through the lot like a mad man and putting it into their car bay. I then film them removing said battery from the car! I ask what they're doing. Caught, they admit they overcharged Hertz for the day before battery, are taking it back, and putting my old BAD battery back in. This would leave me with a dead car! I tell them I'd like my car and keys back...they refuse. They hold them hostage until I call non-emergency police. Cops show up and agree they cannot do this and demand they release my keys to me. Then a guy claiming to be their "regional corp manager" shows up...and defends all of this without knowing the full TRUE story! I call pep boys corporate from their lot on my phone and leave messages with their phone person promising me I'd get a call back...which I never did. Finally, the Hertz people approve the battery from day prior just to get me out of there, the Pep Boys put it back in a second time, and I tell them I want to leave now. Once again, they hold my car hostage and refuse me access until they change the tires...always goin' for that sale! I was in the location for over FIVE hours in two days, lost work due to this, had to call cops, and was treated like garbage by their workers and "managers." I recently went to Pep Boys because I had a leak in my front passenger tire on my 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid. I went to store #0822 located at 7030 S Cicero Avenue Bedford Park, IL 60638. The tracking ID number for the service work is 2237370. When I first approached, the service counter, the individual told me to give me my drivers license in order to get service. He told me that I must give him my drivers license in order for him to serve me. I told him that I was uncomfortable with this. I told the service individual that I would give him my address which I did. I provide the address to my private mailbox which we normally do to protect ourselves from identity theft. When the gentleman came to get my car and drive it back to the service area, he drove my truck at a very high rate of speed. I waited for the tire to get repaired and the same individual took the car and drove off at a very high rate in the opposite direction of where I was. I then went to the counter and asked why is this gentleman joy riding in my truck. I was told that he had to drive around like this to test the TPMS sensor. I told the representative I get my vehicles service all the time and no one has ever driven around my vehicles like this to fix a flat tire or make sure the tire warning light goes off. The representative then told me that I probably take my car to back alley mechanics and they don't do the proper testing. I tried to politely explain to the young representative that we normally only service our vehicles at the new car dealership and that we do not patronize back alley mechanics. The representative continue to insult me, and I told him that Pep Boys will never get customers when they have poor customer service. The representative laughed and said we don't need anything from you. I felt very insulted by this exchange. I did not see the reason the representative was driving my vehicle like a race car. Nor did I understand the logic of the representative that said that this was necessary to test the TPMS tire pressure monitor system like this. When I told the Pep Boys representative that I repair industrial control systems that work with pressure similar to the TPS system the representative simply told me why didn't I fix it myself and laughed. Poor communication. Integrity and character is a deal breaker for me. Had my vehicle since Thursday. Was told Monday morning it would be ready. The morning passed, so I called and was told would be ready between 1-2:30 pm. I get there was told 20-30 mins. I didn't drive off until almost 6pm. This place tries to up charge you. I brought my car in on Tuesday and told them I wanted my brakes and rotors changed along with an engine diagnostic. Came in yesterday on Wednesday and noticed the engine light still being in and told the guy at the register about it and turned out he forgot to have the master tech do the diagnostic so he said if I come in tomorrow he'll have the engine diagnostic done for free since he made the mistake. I come in today and talked about what happened and why I'm back to whoever is in today and he said we'll the engine diagnostic is gonna be $110. I said well the kid I talked to yesterday said since he made the mistake it would be free and he said well he was probably just talking about pulling the engine codes so it's up to you if you want just the free engine codes or the pay the $110 for the engine diagnostic. I asked her does your store fix a flat tire and how much does it cost? The lady said, We do fix a flat tire and the cost is $25.00 but first let me check to see if we are not overbooked for the evening seeing that we close at 7:00 p.m. The lady said, It's ok for you to come to us. I arrived at Pep Boys before 6:30 p.m. and no one was in at the check in station. A mechanic came in from the back area and I let him know about the flat tire. The mechanic informed me that we don't fix flat tires and that I would have to buy a new tire. I let him know about me and the lady who answered the phone's prior discussion. He was adamant that I buy a tire and seeing that you close at 7:00 p.m. I have owned several cars and had flat tires and never purchased new tires due to flat tires. I've been here twice and received bad service both times. The employees don't seem honest and try to add lots of repairs that aren't needed. My first visit there two years ago was just looking for windshield wiper blades. I know what blades I like but the employee kept telling me I was inexperienced and needed to take his advice. I didn't take his advice and did just fine at half the price he wanted to charge me. My most recent visit was for a minor repair and I was told about all types of other things I needed to be safe driving on the road and it would cost $890. I declined all repairs and went to another local place where the things that truly needed fixing costs just $235. Never going back here no matter how close or fast they are. read more

I'm a traveling healthcare worker that lives in Chicago but works in various states across the country. One of my vehicles has a problem with the emissions system and I needed to get this issue resolved before I could pass inspection and renew my tags. I was only going to be in Chicago for 3 days so weeks ahead of time I made an appointment with Pep Boys to get the problem looked at. When I arrived to drop my vehicle off, the guy behind the counter advised me matter-of-factly that they only have a mechanic on duty during certain days and times. The mechanic wouldn't be in until 4pm that day and "hopefully" he would be able to get to it that evening. Would've been nice if they had called and told me that in advance so l could have made other arrangements since I was pressed for time. Needless to say, they never got around to even looking at my vehicle that day or the next or the next. And to make matters worse, when I called to get an update that last day, the guy stuttered through a lie and said my vehicle was throwing weird codes and they would have to look at it again tomorrow. They never even checked my vehicle for any codes nor did they even crank it up the whole time it was there. The reason I know this is because I have a tracking device connected to the obd port which they would have had to remove to read any codes. I also have video cameras that record any and all activity inside my vehicle. When I went to go get my keys, I had to wait half an hour because they left the lobby unattended. And then when he finally showed up, he had the nerve to say "We won't charge you for anything." You GD right you won't since you never even touched my car! That night I got a follow up email from Pep Boys saying they are sorry I wasn't able to make my appointment and would I like to reschedule? That's gonna be a no for me dawg. Epic failure! read more

For the past 4 months I've been in and out of shops until I was recommended by a friend to visit Pepboys in Bedford. Jorge and the whole team are fantastic I was so surprised to find out they not only do tires and oil changes but everything from there and on. After 4 useless mechanic visits my engine problems were solved under 2 hours. As I was waiting for my diagnostic I did observe the heavy traffic of customers and I suggest on anyone to make an appointment because they get slammed due to their great quality work!! Poor Customer service. I scheduled an appointment online for an oil change. I specifically asked for Synthetic Oil in the appointment and they put conventional oil. The attendant didn't ask me any questions other than my name and my vehicle make/model. They allegedly checked my tire which had a flat but told me nothing is wrong with it and they put air in it. I got home to check the air pressure and i still had a flat/low air. So I question whether or not they actually checked at my tire. Wasted 2 hours of my day. read more

I walked in to an empty lobby and no one behind the desk. I waited about five minutes before two techs finally came to the desk. They briefly listened to my concerns about my car, instantly asked for my keys, and checked my car before even test driving it. The problem they found wasn't even what I went in for. I finally asked the mechanic to at least test drive my car before telling me the concerns I had weren't present, and he did, but it seemed like he would have rather have been doing something else. The phone rang off the hook the entire time I was there and no one ever answered it. A customer in the store area had to ask to be rang up. None of the Walmarts in the area had an auto service center. So I came to Pep Boys for an oil change. They had me wait 2 hours longer than the expected time they said that their service would be done. What I thought would be a simple errand took time from most of my day. When I asked if the oil change was finished they gave an attitude saying that there is nothing they can do because the car is draining oil and my car isn't going anywhere. Walked in because my rear brake lights and turn signal were out. Figured either the fuse or bulbs needed to be replaced. They wanted to charge me $90 to "diagnose" the problem first and then would give me an estimate on the charge for the actual repair. No thanks. Went up the street to Lara's on 63rd. They told me they'd replace the bulbs first to see if was just a quick easy fix. It was and only cost $20. Look around before settling on this place. read more

I had a great experience with this Pep Boys location. My car lost a serpentine belt and overheated on the expressway and I had it towed to this shop. Jesse Ramos was on duty and he told me that it might not get looked at until the next day because of the amount of work already on their plate. I was impressed when he called and told me that they got it in and immediately diagnosed the issue. Besides being friendly, he was informative and upfront about what other things my car had going on. He assigned Robert Calvario to be my mechanic and between the both of them they told me what they found and what they thought the problem could be. I gave the go ahead to explore further and after a day, I was able to get my car back in fine working condition. Robert went above and beyond by not only replacing the part, but also spending time checking that the car would function with the engine running. He took thirty minutes of his work day to personally test drive it a few miles to make sure it held up under real world conditions. When I came to pick it up, Jesse rang up the total and was kind enough to give me a ten percent discount, it doesn't sound like much but when you're in the hundreds it makes a difference.
