I've been going to Thao at Hair Society for several years now. She was the first person to ever color my hair, back when I still had virgin hair. I remember feeling extremely nervous the first time I lightened my hair, worried about potential damage. Thao guided me through the entire process and reassured me that she would keep my hair healthy while also making sure it remained low maintenance. Over the years, I've gone from dark to light and back to dark again. Each time, Thao has been incredibly professional and patient. I remember sending her numerous inspiration photos, and she was always honest about what was achievable with my hair. Without causing any damage, she successfully lightened my hair without it ever becoming brassy. Keep in mind when you go light, you have to get it toned and maintain your hair or it could potentially get brassy. Thao is very personable and always makes me feel welcomed and comfortable--like she's not just my hairstylist but also my therapist. I constantly get compliments on my cut and color, thanks to her. I followed my hairstylist to this salon and was very happy I did!! Amber did my extensions install at Hair Society and the experience was unmatched. I've literally never had such a nice and peaceful experience at a salon. The ambience is UNBEATABLE. I appreciate the design and layout which elevates your salon experience. Bathroom is super clean and very cute with decor to match too. Amber installed four rows of extensions. Each row had one weft on each side of my head, overlapping to make two rows in the back (per row) to match the density of my natural hair so that it would blend better! All of the rows are hidden so that I can tie my hair up in a ponytail, half up half down, you name it! After installing the extensions, she trimmed them a bit to blend better and had Thao check them to make sure everything was perfect. I would also like to mention that Amber pre dyed the extensions to match the purple shade in my hair and even had root shadow to add dimension throughout my head. Overall, I couldn't think of any way my salon experience could be improved. I would highly recommend this salon to anyone who is in need of a refresh for their hair!! I had an appointment with Amanda years ago to dye my hair. Sure, she was nice during our small talks. But she didn't achieve the color I was asking for like shown in the photo. I don't expect exact results but at least closer to what I was asking for. I asked for cool tone, silver; got warm tone blondish. I wish she was truthful about her ability and limitation. I was new to the whole dye thing, so yes, shame on me for not researching. She burned my scalp but I thought it was normal until I asked for outside advice. I watched her pick clumps of my hair and tear a section closer to my roots out in horror, but I kept silent. Is this normal process? It made my hair look frizzy once dried. She accidentally got some permanent dye on the back of my cardigan, which I didn't know until I've already gotten home. I don't if she saw or not but chose to not say anything. I don't know. Maybe she rushed the job because it was approaching late night. I would have happily reschedule if she could do a proper job. I'm incredibly upset I gave a large tip but she didn't say anything. It was traumatizing. I had a hard time looking and trusting another stylist with my hair ever again. I should've left midway when she said hair was just hair. Obviously she didn't know how to handle certain hair texture and color. read more

I've been coming to Thao for 4 or 5 years now - honestly I can't remember how long it's been but I always leave satisfied. She's been in the industry a long time and her pricing is reasonable. That does not mean she is cheap, she puts in work and charges accordingly but she won't clean you out for a simple service either. She is a co-owner if this modern salon and it fits her esthetic perfectly. The lighting is perfect so you can see exactly what she's doing and how it will look in natural light. Laura is an amazing hair connoisseur. I have been coming here for almost two years now and I can't imagine going to anyone else! She's super sweet, truthful, and patient. She's there to help me when I'm most indecisive about going dark or light. She's honest about what she can achieve and ensures I am satisfied with my hair. Umm not sure why I never reviewed Hair Society on Yelp but I have been coming here since they opened back in 2015. At the time in 2015, I was looking for a trustworthy hair stylist because of mishaps when I was a kid LOL. I actually stalked Thao (my now hair stylist of 6 years) for 7 months before even reaching out to her to get my hair done. Prior to coming to Thao, I never cut my hair (bc the many mishaps of asking for an inch off and getting like 5/6 inches "accidentally" cut off). My hair is not damaged one bit and I've done multi rainbow hair styles/colors (see photos via IG). I love the salon bc they're so ethical and recycle everything they can! The aesthetics of the salon is so soothing to the eye as well! 10/10 would recommend coming to this place if you had the same things happen to you! read more

HAIR BY TT!!! A few years ago, I saw a selfie of my sorority sister's hair on Facebook and it was a low-maintenance ombre. I asked her where she got her hair done at and she gave me all the deets for Thao. The rest was history. I reached out to her (via text at the time, now she only accepts emails unless you're one of her OG clients). She was nice and informative. I explained to her, that I, too will need a low-maintenance hair color since I didn't have time/funds to keep up with it. She gave me a great ombre! Years down the line, I have done all the balayages in the world. I cut a lob that looked incredible about two years back, which sparked something in me recently. ...RECENTLY - ahem, meaning yesterday I got a sleek blunt (dark) bob cut and it is outstandingggg. She's such a perfectionist and that's the type of hair stylist a girl NEEEEEDS! I moved to Los Angeles (near Fairfax-ish) and although, there are tonsss of salons here with exceptional stylists... Laura D!!!! I've been getting my hair done since 2013 and honestly, I've never left a salon so happy in anyone else's chair. Laura is so talented and detailed! She listens to what you want and will willingly talk about each detail of what she will do to achieve the look you're going for, and delivers!!! Not only is she talented but she has such a fun and down to earth personality!! She probably has one of the best customer service I've ever received in a salon and she really cares about her clients. She displayed a lot of selflessness and is super real- Definitely isn't a stylist who tries to jip you of your money. I honestly feel like even if she did a 80% job on my hair, I would've left super happy anyway because of her service and personality! But thankfully, her work was also 100!! She even offered me a ton of her detox juice she made for herself that she brought to work that day. She really didn't have to but she did, and also texted me some juice recipes as i was telling her I've been wanting to try a detox. Soooo sweet of her. Also-she offers services after work hours on some days. My appointment with her was at 5:30 PM! Usually if i ever get my hair done, i have to take the day off or find a stylist who works weekends because nobody works those hours for hair coloring usually. I love this place! My hair color was a disaster before, and luckily this place saved my hair. You definitely have to call the hair dressers and book an appointment individually; you cannot just call the store and book anyone. The hair dressers are contractors, so they book based on their own time. However, I walked in one morning and someone was able to fit me in later in the evening. So lucky because this usually doesn't happen! So doing my research, the most popular hair dressers are the owners Jessica, Tiffany, and Thao. However, it takes some time book an appointment with them because they are in high demand. A friend of mine had to wait a couple months after booking the appointment before getting her hair done. I called Jessica and she recommended to book with Laura. Being desperate for change, I didn't care who did it. I was sure anyone who worked at this salon was highly competent anyway. And she was GREAT!! I love Laura, she is super easy to talk to and is knowledgable about hair. She made me feel comfortable the entire time. I'm glad she fit me in her schedule the same morning I came in. I highly recommend her, especially if you want to get your hair done as soon as possible. Now this is a cute and trendy salon! Great location in Costa Mesa, right by Triangle Square. Trying a new salon is always hard, but trust me - this salon is amazing and the hairstylists make you feel so comfortable and beautiful in your own skin. I go to Shamane, who is the best hairstylist I've ever had! I previously got damaged hair at another hair salon, so I was really nervous to dye my hair again but Shamane explained to me ways to strengthen my hair and become healthy again. She even sat next to me while I was under the dryer to make sure I wasn't getting over processed! PLUS, she's a pro at blondes, hands down.
