A sister from our church introduced me to Dr. Kenneth Lu. He's around 50 years old, very experienced, highly skilled, and has a steady, youthful hand. Her husband had surgery with Dr. Lu and was very satisfied. Coincidentally, both his office and the surgery center are in Arcadia, where I live. I had cataract surgery on my left eye on 2/16 and on my right eye yesterday, using an EDOF multifocal intraocular lens (paid out-of-pocket). Dr. Lu truly lived up to his reputation; he was very professional, explained things meticulously, and patiently answered all my questions. Both surgeries went very smoothly and successfully. Furthermore, Dr. Lu personally calls patients on the same day after each surgery to check on their progress. Although there are follow-up appointments the next day, his dedication and willingness to go the extra mile touched and reassured me. Dr. Lu is truly an outstanding doctor, highly trustworthy and recommended. I also want to especially mention Dr. Angela, the anesthesiologist at Specialty Medical Center, who was excellent. Her dosage and timing were very precise; I was unconscious and woke up to find the surgery already successfully completed. Praise the Lord, my vision is bright again; my eyesight has recovered very well on the first day after surgery. read more

This is a long overdue review on Dr. Lu's service received sometime ago last year. I came with a severe eye virus that lasted for weeks due to improper treatment from another physician from an urgent care facility, causing the effects of the virus to worsen due to a wrong prescription. Dr. Lu examined my eye, conducted tests and was able to quickly assessed the condition and why it happened. He prescribed the correct medication and within a few short hours, I was able to regain my eyesight on the affected eye. I was so relieved and could not thank him enough for his knowledge and expert handling of my condition allowing me to resume and return to my daily living. read more

My husband is a new patient with Dr Lu while I observed. I didn't like his attitude and bedside manners. His attitude is not professional and he lacks the care for patients. I wasn't pleased with how he handled my husband exam and I canceled my eye appointment with him. 3 eye drops were administered to my husband's eyes and resulted uncomfortable for one week. Dr Lu informed my husband that he doesn't need future eye exam because there's no issues even though my husband's family have a history of macular degeneration. read more

A good responsible doctor should protect patients and should not cover other doctor's wrong doings and misleading patients. Dr. Linda Vu did an unnecessary and unsuccessful cataract surgery on my left eye 5 years ago, because of the bad result like swollen and tense (till now), I did not do surgery on right eye as she instructed. Until now no other doctors told me to do surgery on the right eye, they only said that they cannot do anything on left eye, including Dr. Lu. No other doctors said Dr. Linda Vu did not do anything wrong, except Dr. Lu. Dr. Lu loves surgery too and wants dry eye surgery but I did not do. Doctor Lu is professional but not friendly. He will hand you a piece of paper - "After Visit Summary" but does not bother to explain what the 5 items listed in medical jargon mean, even if you ask questions. Maybe he feels explaining to me what he diagnosed is not worth his time and all I needed to know was that he recommends seeing an optometrist in their office to see whether the problem could be corrected. This is my first time to this Doheny Eye Center/ UCLA Health - Arcadia location and I am not impressed with their quality of care. read more

Do not have eye surgery with Dr. Lu! I had cataract surgery at Dohenny UCLA eye center with Dr. Kenneth L. Lu on May 2nd 2022. The Tri-focal lens that Dr. Lu implanted was NOT the correct one, and my vision is worse now than before the surgery.   I went for a second opinion and the ophthalmologist I saw told me that the implanted lens prescription was wrong. He said "The right eye is 2.50 reading range, and should have been for distance". Not only did Dr. Lu implant the wrong prescription, I was insulted by the fact that he told me it was to difficult to explain the problem and that the surgery is just to improve the overall vision and that I would have to wear glasses to see far. This is in absolute contradiction to what he told before the surgery. Several times before surgery he told me that I was going to be able to see well without glasses. He also told me on the first visit after the surgery that my vision was going to improve rapidly. read more

His command to my previous eye doctor Linda Vu is absolutely wrong. He said that nothing wrong with her cataract surgery she did on my left eye. The fact is my eye is swollen and tense the day after surgery continuously for years and with many other problems like he said. Besides, Dr. Vu wanted to do cataract surgery on both eye three years ago but until ow Dr. Lu did not tell me to do surgery on the other eye. Dr. Lu performed LASIK on me and it was so quick and efficient I didn't even need to take any medication to calm my nerves prior to the surgery. No pain at all during the process either! I highly recommend Dr. Lu if you choose to better your life with LASIK. read more

Dr. Lu has been my ophthalmologist since 2012 when he removed my cataracts and inserted toric lens giving me 20/20 vision. My surgery was text book perfect and I had an excellent outcome. After decades of corrective lenses I am finally free of contacts and glasses. I see Dr. Lu on a yearly basis for check ups and for occasional minor concerns. I feel most fortunate that Dr. Lu is my ophthalmologist because he is an excellent medical care professional who is dedicated to providing the best care to his patients. My family members and friends are also patients of Dr. Lu and have had similar experiences. An added bonus is that time spent in the waiting room is minimal. read more

I saw Dr. Lu for LASIK last year (Jul 2018). I was really nervous about the entire procedure but was convinced by a friend to at least go in for a consultation to get a better understanding of what will happen during the procedure and if I even qualify for it. The office staff were very friendly and I was seen fairly promptly. Plenty of parking in the lot. Dr. Lu answered all of my questions (I had a lot of them) and helped me understand how LASIK works. I was able to schedule my LASIK about two months after my consultation at California Lasik Center in Pasadena. The center was clean and staff were friendly. The procedure itself was super quick! I was in and out in about 15 minutes (maybe 20 minutes max). Dr. Lu examined my eyes before the procedure and I was led to a room with this giant machine. He walked me through the process as he was performing the surgery. I was surrounded by techs to ensure that everything was okay. And because he had already talked to me about how it works, I felt more mentally prepared. I was able to see already when he was done but definitely was not able to drive. My eyes felt very sensitive to light about half an hour after the surgery but I slept right after I got home and felt much better when I woke up couple hours later. The first 2 days after LASIK was the most uncomfortable. My eyes itched and were sensitive but nothing unusual. I used the eye drops as directed. I was able to be out and about by the 3rd day. It still blows my mind that I am able to see without contacts.. my contacts were at -6.00 and -5.50. I have some night halos but it's not so bad that I am bothered by it. Getting LASIK was one of the best decisions I have made in my life so far and Dr. Lu made it possible! I highly recommend him to my friends and family as well. :) read more

You ask them how much it is to see this horrible doctor, they say $200, and then they send you an $862 bill even though you have insurance. They are thieves and liars. The doctor is horrible. Spent less than 5 minutes with me, did not address the problem I had, and I got a huge bill. Stay away from this horrible place. I had a simple check. A "reasonable" amount by my insurance is $129, which makes sense, but these greedy people somehow decided that they can charge $800 to someone, and when you ask them to change it back to cash, they refuse. read more

I had LASIK surgery with Dr. Lu last year. Easy, painless and now seeing through walls! OK, maybe not quite X ray vision, but I see great. Good bye glasses and contacts! What a life changing event. I highly recommend Dr. Lu. He handled the entire process with professionalism and care. I felt confident with him the whole way. After my surgery I brought my grandfather in for cataract surgery, and he did great too. He's got bionic eyes with this special extended focus lens that allows him to see through walls! Dr. Lu had performed Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK) to me and it worked great!! Just like he promised, no dry eye symptom! Although the recovery days were a bit longer than LASIK, but it was worth it! Dr. Kenneth Lu performed my Lasik surgery in 2018. Prior to selecting his services for this life-changing procedure, I needed to be absolutely confident of two things: 1) Is he the best ophthalmologist for the procedure? and 2) Does he really care about me and my vision? The answers to both of those questions is a resounding, YES! In doing my research, I found out that Dr. Lu has 20+ years of experience as an ophthalmologist and is part of one of the nation's highest ranked ophthalmology groups. He's basically the best of the best in his field, so that box was checked. Above and beyond his skill and expertise is his outstanding character and care for me as a person. I found Dr. Lu to be approachable, caring and confident. He answered every question I had about the Lasik procedure and what to expect as a potential outcome. He was balanced in presenting the risks and benefits and there was never a hint of pressure. I felt that he was advising me and caring for my vision like it was his own eyes. It was also incredibly reassuring that he had the utmost confidence in his extensive experience and skill level. Dr. Lu performed LASIK surgery on me more than a year ago. I previously had LASIK performed twice by other doctors (successfully, but my eyes continued changing over time). Dr. Lu's office staff was extremely courteous and service oriented. Making appointments was easy and the office staff generally kept patients moving so I was seen right at the time of my appointment. Dr. Lu told me that he could eliminate my need for glasses (both reading glasses and distance). On the day of the surgery, the surgery center staff was as courteous and patient friendly as Dr. Lu's office staff was. My surgery was complicated because I previously had LASIK twice before (20 years ago and 10 years ago, each successful, but my eyes continued changing). It seems one of my previous flaps was stuck. Dr. Lu told me the alternatives were to create a new flap on another day, to switch to another procedure that would involve more pain, or keep trying to use the old flap (which would be most convenient and least painful recovery). Dr. Lu recommended that he keep trying to use the same flap, which he eventually was able to do! The recovery was very easy and my eyesight now is excellent - no glasses for reading, no glasses for driving at night, and no glasses to see the game score on a bar TV. He might be a good optometrist in general; yet, not a good surgeon for double eyelid surgery. My eyes don't look that good superficially after the surgery as expected. I was told that the surgery was going to go smooth and the result would be good. However, my eyes end up looking not natural, in fact, look terrible. I even went there for the second surgery, and the second surgery even gave me an obvious scar on my eyelid. He told me he is a good surgeon for double eyelid surgery, but it is not true. I paid $4000 for it and I even went back for the second time for him to makeup the failed attempt; nothing had improved after it but leave it an obvious scar. I would not suggest this optometrist for the double eyelid surgery because you will not get the result you want!!!!! read more

Great doctor! I've known Dr Lu for 20 years.  He was able to solve all my eye problems with short recovery time and great results.  One time I was scheduled to give a talk on TV.  3 days before the talk I developed a big bump on my upper lid (forgot which side), so I called Dr Lu's office in the morning.  Dr Lu was able to see me in the afternoon and operated on me the same day.  By the time I gave the talk on TV, one could barely tell that the eye was operated on 3 days ago.   Not only am I very happy with Dr Lu's service, all the friends that I referred to Dr Lu had the same satisfaction. read more

My mother had cataract removed by Dr. Lu, who also implanted a lens that corrected her astigmatism at the same time. She can also see far and read up close too without glasses. She's never seen better in her life. We are grateful to Dr. Lu for taking such good care of my mom. She felt very comfortable with him from the first moment she met him. Dr. Lu is an excellent surgeon with Holmesian diagnostic acumen. He's also efficient and got great instincts. I had my LASIK done by him and am seeing great. I recommended my mom to him for blepharoplasty, and she also did great. My mom can be very picky, but she liked Dr. Lu and trusted him implicitly within 5 minutes of meeting him. I work with computer day in day out so my eyes are often uncomfortable. After 40 years of wearing glasses, I no longer need them! Prior to Lasik surgery Dr. Lu explained each step along the way, making sure I was comfortable. After the procedure, I went home, took a nap, and woke up to a whole new world without glasses! Dr. Kenneth Lu is an exceptional eye surgeon that helped our son tremendously. I don't write reviews on social media in general and in fact this is my very first one, and I have to write it for Dr. Lu. Being a physician myself, I have a lot of physician colleagues/friends. But I have to say that Dr. Lu is truly one of the best I know. Our 6 years old son sustained a deep laceration to his right upper eyelid from doing "monkey business", which required multiple stitches to close the wound. Dr. Lu delivered a total of 12 stitches and his work is so meticulous and I have no doubt it is better than any plastic surgeons can perform. Being a minimally invasive surgeon myself, I have to humbly say his suturing ability is better than my own. Not only is he skillful and professional, his care and patience literally took away the fear and hesitance from my nervous 6 years old boy while getting sutured. Dr. Lu talked with and explained to my son at every step of the process so patiently and calmly and the boy literally only cried a little bit when local anesthesia was applied. This process would usually be done with deeper sedation or general anesthesia for patients at this age. My family and myself feel truly indebted to Dr. Lu for his exceptional work and I would wholeheartedly recommend this physician to anyone out there. read more
