    calamari was great
    Frank T.

We must have driven past Kenny's a million times, and my cousins even stayed here at the hotel... but never ate at the restaurant. We just got off a two hour sunset catamaran and wanted somewhere to sit and eat. It was 8:30, we were hungry, and only a party of 11 (not 20+), and I decided to poke in. The host said, no problem, come in, and they set a table for us. With absolutely zero expectations, we sat and saw the menu. Our server Mario took care of drinks and apps straight-away, and indulged the children with some much needed banter. The pizza's looked interesting so we put in a few. We also ordered some apps - shrimp cocktail, calamari, polpo, mamma's meatballs. We rounded out the meal with some salads and tried the bolognese. Everything was great- we really had a nice meal, and could definitely see adding this restaurant to our regular rotation going forward.

We were looking for a place to enjoy dinner on a rainy Tuesday evening in Montauk. We were 6 guests of the motel (Kenny's Tipperary Inn) and due to the weather we decided to stay local, and this restaurant is attached to this motel. We took a look at the menu ahead of time, items were pricey even by NYC standards, but it was convenient and we decided to give it a try. Upon arrival we were lead by Mario to a "special" table in the room with all the windows. They took our drink order which were served promptly, along with a choice of sparkling or Montauk water. We decided to try a few appetizers...calamari, Montauk Tartara, and a Margarita Pizza. Everything was fresh and tasty. The only complaint was that the calamari portion was significantly less than most, but it was delicious, tender, hot and crispy! Our entrees were somewhat varied, 2 Lamb Chop(s), 1 Chicken Milanese (that was split) and an appetizer of Mama's Meatballs to accompany a dinner portion of linguine with clam sauce, that was also to be shared by one couple. Our entrees were slow to come out. We received the chicken and lamb chops entrees first. One couple waited and waited for the meatballs and linguine to arrive until we finally said something and a few minutes later the meatballs came out and then a plate with linguine that was not fully cooked. We had already spoken to them earlier about service being unusually slow and they offered a round of drinks on the house to apologize for the delay. Now with dishes for two guests being inedible they obviously comped the two dishes and offered another round of drinks and dessert and coffees on the house. At this point we were told that they were understaffed, two people hadn't showed up that day. We wished they had shared that early on. All in all, the food was delicious that was served properly. We were there for a long 3 hours. I would have given them a 5 star review if things had gone better or perhaps if they been more honest about their situation.

Staff was super friendly and food was good! Enjoyed a pasta dish. A good casual Italian dining option. Typical Italian dining atmosphere.

The least you could do is make a pizza for $25 that is big enough to fit the box you sell it in. And the crust taste burnt!

They seated us right away! I love the vibes of the place, it's beautiful and inviting, but not pretentious. Our waitress was the best. She knew it was our anniversary and gave us a little bubbly to toast to. We also made it for happy hour (5 pm - 6 pm on weekdays, and 5 pm - 6 pm on weekends only at the bar)! All the small plates on the left side of the menu were half off! We immediately ordered drinks (the $10 happy hour cocktail - a blackberry bourbon smash for my husband, and a mocktail for me). We then ordered the shishito peppers, 2 of the pickled beet deviled eggs, and the roasted oysters with chili oil. They came out super fast, and it was delicious. The shishitos had that great char flavor along with a great dipping sauce. You can never go wrong with deviled eggs. Then we decided to order the fried oysters and the bread with corn butter. The fried oysters were the star of the small plates. Cooked so well. Freshly fried, you bite into it and it was juicy and delicious on the inside. Just so good. The bread and butter? Ugh, my dream butter and bread. Just so delicious. The butter was slightly sweet from the corn and had flakes of sea salt on tip, making it the perfect sweet and salty combo. We also got the salad (local produce!), and our waitress knew we were sharing ao she had the kitchen put it on 2 plates. Such a great touch. The salad was fantastic. After eating lobster rolls for a day, this was a much needed salad. It was refreshing, bright, and light! For our main entrees, we got the seared local squid and the strip steak. It was INCREDIBLE. Everything had so much flavor. The squid was cooked well, wasnt chewy. Just delicious. The crispy rice was the BEST THING I HAVE EVER EATEN. I wish we could order bowls of it. My husband finished it, couldn't get enough of it. The steak was fantastic as well. The potato with the bearnise sauce was so dreamy. The little onions on the steak, all the little touches were so well done. We knew we had to get dessert. We got a scoop of the black raspberry ice cream, a scoop of corn and blueberry swirl ice cream, and the lavender honey panna cotta. Guys. You 100% must get dessert. The corn blueberry ice cream was unreal. I dont know how you get all that flavor into ice cream. They dont skimp on the honey on the panna cotta. And it went so well with the more mild panna cotta. The black raspberry was a little icy because they froze whole blackberries in it, but at least you know they were trying to make sure you got blackberries in there. With happy hour, the bill wasn't too bad. This was hands down our favorite meal of our week long road trip. I can't wait to come back. I would 100% make a detour to eat here. Parking is pretty difficult around here. I would probably just Uber if I was coming here on a weekend. I need to come here for breakfast at some point.

The restaurant, helmed by James Beard-winning chef David Standridge, topped several Best of CT lists and, while staying in Mystic, we grabbed a dinner reservation. (Reservations are a must unless you come here early enough to luck out at the bar. When we got there at around 5, the couple in front of us was told that the next available slot was at 9!). My favorite of what we ordered: the bucatini. All of their pastas come in either an appetizer or an entree portion. Now that I'm reading their online menu description online, I think they switched it up based on seasonal availability of ingredients. Ours was a mushroom cream based-sauced and it was heavenly - thick and luscious without being too one-note or overwhelming. The pasta itself was also cooked just slightly al dente, which is my preference. I went with the skirt steak. This was a highly out of character moment for me, as I almost always opt for the seafood option over the steak, particularly at a restaurant known for its seafood, but hear me out. My favorite part of a steakhouse is always the sides. The sides that came with the skirt steak included shishito peppers, a beautifully "feuille" style of potatoes (think the crepe layer cakes, only in deep fried potato form), and a seacoast mushroom (with the most beautiful precise knife cuts). Truly a feast for all of the senses. Also tried my friend's squid but I preferred the skirt steak. The crispy rice was good but extremely greasy. We were too full for dessert in the moment and then ended up getting ice cream from the place over the drawbridge.

Truly, the cocktails and menu at this restaurant are so inventive and flavor packed it feels as if there has to be something supernatural happening in the kitchen and behind the bar. We came here in early May and sat at the bar. Dillon took great care of us, walked us through the menu and made stellar recommendations all around. After having my mind blown by the Everything Bagel Martini, we moved on to share the charred octopus and Leggy's Thighs. The charred octopus was tender, and paired so well with the citrus fruits on this plate, plus the bite of pistachios?! So well put together. Leggy's thighs (RIP Leggy) were literally the best chicken I'd ever had, fall off the bone tender and topped off with flavorful furikake and hot pickled fresno chilis. We also split the Wagyu sando which I'm literally still thinking about. Wagyu on milkbread?! What an excellent idea. Live acoustic music was going on the night we were here which really added to the cozy ambiance. I was then asked if there was a problem with the service after giving 10 dollars!! We called the restaurant to either move our reservation to another day or cancel it, and were told that only the manager could assist us. However, we were told the manager was unavailable because he was busy speaking with regulars at a table. I asked if we could simply be placed on hold until he was available so we could find a solution. We were told no. Instead, the employee said they would "leave a note" and that someone would call us back if they were able to help. Meanwhile, we were told that if the reservation was canceled, we would be charged a $135 cancellation fee -- despite the fact that we were actively trying to work with the restaurant to either reschedule or resolve the situation. The experience became even more unacceptable when the employee eventually hung up on us and then stopped answering our calls. The restaurant only answered after American Express contacted them on our behalf. To be clear, I have no issue with a restaurant having a cancellation policy. What I have an issue with is the way this situation was handled: being told the manager was "too busy" to speak with us, being refused the simple courtesy of being placed on hold, having our calls screened, and ultimately being hung up on. That is an embarrassing level of customer service for an establishment of this caliber. I genuinely hope someone in management -- above the person working the restaurant that evening -- takes this seriously and addresses this behavior. A cancellation policy is one thing; treating a customer with this level of disrespect is another.
