    Lobster pasta special
    Colleen M.

On the recommendation of a local we booked a dinner reservation here. We arrived early to enjoy happy hour - the calamari was out of this world. It was not fried, the roasted peppers were a great addition and the fra diavolo sauce was superb. We went upstairs to have dinner and were seated at the window which was a nice surprise. The staff were very courteous and the service was top notch. My husband ordered the special which was a ribeye and I ordered the other special which was lobster with a pasta that is similar to angel hair in a tomato sauce. We were very happy with our selections. We also ordered nanas bread which came with hummus, ricotta and garlic and oil. It was delicious. We enjoyed red wine and the espresso martini. This was a wonderful dinner to close out our long weekend in Mystic. Would highly recommend this spot for a great dining experience from top to bottom.

Gorgeous interior with a warm inviting vibe. Service was very skilled and helpful, and super engaging. We tried the porcini mezza Luna and the rigatoni with pork shoulder. Don't skip the sourdough bread either! Excellent experience will return very soon.

Beautiful restaurant for food and drinks. The espresso martini was a must try, one of the best I've had in CT. The service was stellar even on a busy day like Valentine's Day. They did their best to accommodate us despite running late which was really appreciated. The pastas were our favorite part of the meal. Huge portions of lobster in our seafood pasta. Would definitely recommend for an intimate evening.

Lovely restaurant experience. We arrived close to closing but did not feel rushed to get through our dinner. Nice, clean and relaxing ambiance. Food was delicious. Recommend the bread platter to start. We enjoyed our meals and the creative cannolis for dessert. Excellent cocktail-Verona.

Great Italian restaurant featuring wine, cheese and salami, and pasta dishes. The focaccia bread is a must have - served with 3 sides, chick pea, roasted garlic in evoo and ricotta. For appetizer we chose the calamari fra diavola which comes in a casserole dish - seasoned with Calabrian peppers. My main was the gnocchi served with prosciutto and spring peas. All pasta is homemade. Very yummy. Conveniently located in downtown Mystic. Great views of Main Street. Service is impeccable.

I have to say everything that we had here was great. However for the price I think there are better places. I think we walked out with a 250 dollar bill after an appetizer, two entrées, some wine and a dessert. I still think the experience was worth it but there are so many other wonderful restaurants in the area and around town. However, I think the one thing I really loved/life changing was the espresso and ice cream together. I might just go in and have that at the bar on a random Saturday.

The food here was amazing!! My wife and I had such a great experience here. The food was properly portioned, delicious and the appetizer and meals were well spaced out. They have a large selection of wine and beverages. Our server was very attentive, kind and funny. He helped give us recommendations and helped make our night special. The ambiance was nice, dimly light, and very nice decor during the Christmas season. You pay for what you get here, very good quality! Perfect place for a fancy Italian date!

We stopped in on a Saturday night with no reservation. The manager was able to seat us at a high top table in the bar. I couldn't wait to try the expresso martini. It was advertised as the best ever! It definitely was made well! No baileys, real expresso and a rich froth on top. We sampled the charcuterie board. It was a nice array of meats & cheeses. I personally could do without the Mortadella and would prefer Sopressata or salami but a choice wasn't given. For dinner we shared the chicken cutlet topped with crispy prosciutto with an arugula salad. I loved it! Excellent dinner and service.

Popped in for happy hour to kill some time before a meeting and wasn't disappointed! The restaurant is beautiful with good sized cocktails and tasty food. My husband said the oysters were some of the best he's ever had. Looking forward to returning in the future for an actual meal because everything smelled absolutely amazing!

The oysters were delicious, grilled peach mignonette was phenomenal. My husband had a Negroni and loved it. I order the double espresso martini & was a big fan! It was a tad sweet but still awesome. Our bartender was incredibly kind. Loved the vibe of the place. Can be casual but you can definitely dress up for a nice dinner too. Hope to come back!

Pappardelle The pasta is freshly made, which is always my preference. It's was slightly under cooked, they could've boiled it a tad longer. The short rib Ravi was flavorful, even though the rib was a little tough. Not enough sauce was provided, so ask for extra if you order this dish. Chocolate Torte I expected more cherries to be inside the torte. Without the garnish of cherries on top it was kind of bland. The wine Invetro was a great paring with the pasta. Polpettine Their version of meatballs was outstanding. Tender, flavorful. A must have when you are there! All in all I would say it's worth a stop when in Mystic!

Espresso Martini (and you can decaf, too!)

Ordering was very easy online, even though the prices seemed a bit high. We ordered $109 worth of food...Arancini ($16), garlic bread with cheese($16), Penne al Vodka with sautéed chicken($32), and the Alfredo with chicken cutlet($38). I was expecting a lot for prices like these. The Arancini were 5 pieces the size of golf balls and the flavor was ok, not worth $16, out garlic bread with cheese ($16) was left out of our order, the penne vodka with sautéed chicken ($32) was dry and there were 5 small pieces of chicken, and the baked penne chicken Alfredo had broken sauce, full of grease and almost inedible...I threw out most of it. I expected so much more from this establishment. The parking lot was packed and parking just to get takeout was challenging, but the food and prices were amazingly disappointing. We may try their pizza to see if that is any better, but I would not recommend the pasta dishes. I can see charging g prices like that if the pasta was homemade, but even that is a stretch. 3 stars is generous

The decor is gorgeous, blending Mediterranean-inspired blue tiling with warm mustard seating and rustic wood accents. The lighting is soft and inviting, and the layout feels spacious yet intimate. It's a beautifully designed space that sets the perfect mood for a great meal. The bar area is beautiful and full of character! I love the mix of the rustic whitewashed wood front and the intricate tile work. The tiered ice display filled with Limoncello and fresh lemons adds such a fun, refreshing touch, and the giant floral centerpiece is stunning. It's a bright, lively spot that's perfect for grabbing a drink. If you prefer dining al fresco, there's a patio and the porch space has a fantastic atmosphere. It feels bright and cheerful thanks to the lively pink flower baskets and the bold blue outdoor furniture. Because the deck is fully covered, you get plenty of shade while still being right next to the walkway. It's a very cute, well-maintained exterior that adds to the overall appeal of the place. The service here is awesome! Our waitress was incredibly sweet and hospitable, and she completely understood that we were on a tight schedule with a bus tour. She did an amazing job of being attentive and accommodating without ever making us feel rushed. The food rolled out in perfectly timed layers, and she even offered to refresh our drinks before we could even ask. I initially thought the garlic bread was a bit pricey but was totally worth $12. The focaccia bread was nicely toasted and seasoned with herb butter and four cheese fonduta. Next was the fried calamari with cherry and banana peppers. The calamari was delicious, seasoned perfectly and was a combination of rings and tentacles. Those who enjoy banana peppers might enjoy that they are lightly fried too resemble the calamari, however I'm not the biggest fan and probably should have asked them to hold them. With them being breaded the same as the calamari is difficult to tell them a part so when your taste buds are gearing up for a bite of calamari and instead you bite into a pepper or can be slightly disappointing. For $19 I would prefer more calamari and less peppers. The salads are very good here too. The Roasted Garlic Caesar features a classic Caesar dressing enhanced with a bright hint of lemon and topped with crunchy breadcrumbs. I added salmon as my protein choice, which was cooked beautifully and paired perfectly with the savory, garlicky flavor profile of the salad. This made for a filling and flavorful meal. Tagliatelle - Outstanding homemade pasta and sauce. The tender, shredded short rib ragu is perfectly tossed with fresh noodles. It has an ideal noodle-to-sauce ratio and avoids being overly rich or heavy. A deeply comforting, cohesive dish topped beautifully with parmigiana. Also enjoyed the lobster roll which was served warm with butter on a perfectly toasted brioche bun, accompanied by a side of fries. The rich, melted butter beautifully complemented the sweet lobster meat, and the brioche added a wonderful touch of sweetness and crunch. Really glad that my bus tour stopped here. I'll definitely return and highly recommend!

Unfortunately, our experience was significantly affected by the hostess, Mariah. When we arrived, we were seated directly next to another party in a restaurant that had many open tables. We politely asked if we could move to the adjacent table for a little more privacy. Mariah told us that table would be needed for a larger reservation, which we completely understood. However, just a few minutes later, another couple was seated at that very table. I have worked as a hostess myself and understand the importance of strategic seating and managing reservations. What was disappointing was being given an explanation that clearly wasn't accurate. When you are paying premium prices for a dining experience, you should also feel welcomed and comfortable. All the tables next to us remained empty yet we were privy to all the conversations so close to us (the small tables are very close together) Because of this interaction, we decided not to stay for dinner and instead had a few appetizers before leaving. It was unfortunate because the food was good and our server provided excellent service. With a more welcoming and honest greeting from the hostess, our experience could have been very different. We will be going to one of many other options next time!

They seated us right away! I love the vibes of the place, it's beautiful and inviting, but not pretentious. Our waitress was the best. She knew it was our anniversary and gave us a little bubbly to toast to. We also made it for happy hour (5 pm - 6 pm on weekdays, and 5 pm - 6 pm on weekends only at the bar)! All the small plates on the left side of the menu were half off! We immediately ordered drinks (the $10 happy hour cocktail - a blackberry bourbon smash for my husband, and a mocktail for me). We then ordered the shishito peppers, 2 of the pickled beet deviled eggs, and the roasted oysters with chili oil. They came out super fast, and it was delicious. The shishitos had that great char flavor along with a great dipping sauce. You can never go wrong with deviled eggs. Then we decided to order the fried oysters and the bread with corn butter. The fried oysters were the star of the small plates. Cooked so well. Freshly fried, you bite into it and it was juicy and delicious on the inside. Just so good. The bread and butter? Ugh, my dream butter and bread. Just so delicious. The butter was slightly sweet from the corn and had flakes of sea salt on tip, making it the perfect sweet and salty combo. We also got the salad (local produce!), and our waitress knew we were sharing ao she had the kitchen put it on 2 plates. Such a great touch. The salad was fantastic. After eating lobster rolls for a day, this was a much needed salad. It was refreshing, bright, and light! For our main entrees, we got the seared local squid and the strip steak. It was INCREDIBLE. Everything had so much flavor. The squid was cooked well, wasnt chewy. Just delicious. The crispy rice was the BEST THING I HAVE EVER EATEN. I wish we could order bowls of it. My husband finished it, couldn't get enough of it. The steak was fantastic as well. The potato with the bearnise sauce was so dreamy. The little onions on the steak, all the little touches were so well done. We knew we had to get dessert. We got a scoop of the black raspberry ice cream, a scoop of corn and blueberry swirl ice cream, and the lavender honey panna cotta. Guys. You 100% must get dessert. The corn blueberry ice cream was unreal. I dont know how you get all that flavor into ice cream. They dont skimp on the honey on the panna cotta. And it went so well with the more mild panna cotta. The black raspberry was a little icy because they froze whole blackberries in it, but at least you know they were trying to make sure you got blackberries in there. With happy hour, the bill wasn't too bad. This was hands down our favorite meal of our week long road trip. I can't wait to come back. I would 100% make a detour to eat here. Parking is pretty difficult around here. I would probably just Uber if I was coming here on a weekend. I need to come here for breakfast at some point.

I really didn't want to write this review, but potential patrons should know what they can expect…read morewhen working with the event staff at Shipwright's Daughter - if they plan to have a private dining experience and event there. My husband and I got married last December. We decided we would hold off on celebrating with our family and invite everyone out from California to join us for a weekend full of activities in Connecticut and a special dinner at Shipwright's Daughter during Memorial Day weekend. We contacted the restaurant's events team to work out high level details starting in late January - to book a private room and hold a date and time. From the get go, the communication we received from the event staff was dismal to say the least. Not only did the events manager misquote the estimate for the room reservation, she came back and asked for a much higher price (up charging by an additional 30% of the original minimum fee) two months after we confirmed and discussed the date. She then explained it was due to the holiday weekend. Our date had never changed from the moment we inquired, so we would have appreciated knowing this upfront. Over the course of several months (and an absurd number of emails and a few calls), we tried to solidify the menu and wine selection and made multiple attempts before hearing back from the team. It was about two weeks before the big event when we were able to confirm a menu. It was about four days before the event that we heard back from the beverage director, but by then, my husband and I had already decided we would bring our own wine bottles, not wanting to leave it to chance with this team. I won't go into further details about the frustration we felt regarding their system for communications (they use an internal system that doesn't make it easy for guests to know who is copied on emails and who sees what). That is something I hope they will work out. When the big day came, I walked into the room and noticed there were a number of chairs missing, so I counted the chairs. They had an incorrect number of chairs for adults and not enough high chairs for the toddlers. We had requested a specific number of these chairs (weeks prior and mentioned it multiple times in writing), and I thought it was safe to assume that this was a basic checklist item for events set up. I was dumbfounded in the moment. I couldn't help but wonder what else they were going to miss or mess up that evening. It was disappointing to have our family members wait while the staff scrambled to pull other chairs into the room. From the time it took to take everyone's order from the set menu, the time between courses being served, and the attentiveness for pouring water and wine - all of it was a miss. The level of hospitality that we expected from a restaurant so recognized for its incredible food and approach to sustainable sourcing was completely overshadowed by the lack of attention and care by its staff - since day one of planning this event. Even a few of our family members commented on this during the dinner. At the end of the day, we felt like an obligation rather than welcomed guests, and that is mainly why I'm leaving this review. We had been patrons of Shipwright's a couple of times prior to this event, which is why we chose this establishment - to represent the best that Connecticut has to offer, when it comes to a dining experience we could vouch for. We no longer feel that we can recommend this restaurant. If you care about hospitality, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

We were panicked, trying to squeeze a party of 6 in at happy hour can be impossible here... or at least it used to be. I was pleasantly surprised when they were able to seat us at 3:50 pm on Friday. Thought we had won the lottery. Things took a turn quickly. A waitress we had never seen before quickly parroted the beers on tap. My husband, who is hard of hearing, asked her to repeat the list, to which she replied "I just listed them". Woof. After that awkward encounter she eventually returned to take our food orders. As we waited for the food, dust fell from the ceiling. My dad, slowly getting more and more worked up compared it to the scenes from Stranger Things in the Upside Down. We all turned our heads and to our horror saw the intake vent for the AC... caked in dust. Dust was literally "snowing" down on us. My father, who I've never seen act displeased with a beer in front of him, brought it to the attention of the nearest server. Multiple employees, all standing there swatting at the flurries as they fell, referred to them as "lint" or "just a few dust bunnies". One waitress even said, "weird because I saw someone cleaning it last week". An hour later, 2 of 3 soups had been delivered, 1 of 2 orders of mussels had arrived, and no smash burgers had made it to the table. We asked for our order to be cancelled and the manager kindly comped 2 of the things we ordered. Two stars because of her. Long story short we will be taking a hiatus and inspecting the vents before we decide to return.

And they were experienced and kind!! I will never forget everyone's kindness and generosity.. They knew I was vegan and gave me raspberries and a peach and water! They kept offering orange juice and other things to be sure I was okay and not be dizzy and faint again. They really helped me a lot. I appreciate them so much! The firefighters and EMT were so efficient and helpful and kind to me! The EMTs even walked me to my car and held my son's pizza!! This entire group of individuals was so awesome. I will never forget their treatment of me. I also appreciate the one customer who came back to check on me. She was so nice. Also, my son said the pizza was delicious! And Fire! Thank you everyone for all that you are and do. I appreciate you from the bottom of my heart. Thanks again!! Be safe.
