Updating my review after a few years. Unfortunately Kenny's remains a 2 star business. The prices are high, the customer service is terrible, and the food is solid at best. If the the BBQ was outstanding I'd tolerate the cashiers with the bad attitudes, but that isn't the case. Particularly during the pandemic businesses should make customer service the top priority as patrons keep the doors open by supporting local. As I mentioned in the previous review the best thing about Kenny's is their sauce. ..and to be honest it's not really BBQ sauce. Improve on the tenderness of the outside of the rib tips. The inside was very tender but I felt like I was chewing on a tree bark with the outer layer. They are always nice inside the restaurant which I have no complaints about the customer service. The place is always clean. The price was $35 for a large tree bark rib tip and overcooked mild taste wings. I have to say, the wings wasn't bad, I dealt with the meat glued to the bone which the cook must have been tired or on his phone. Overall for that price, I can't see myself coming back. I can see if the food taste and texture matched the price, but it didn't. I am not a regular there but I have been there a few times to "see" if the food will be alright or not and it was/and wasn't. Went here for 1st time not expecting much for a "special". OMG!!!, I was so wrong. From the service to the food it was so good. We live in Indiana we called at 9:20 pm on 1/1/2024 to place an order the GIRLat the front counter said they close at 10 pm and we could not place a phone order we told her we'd be there in 10 mins. When Kenny's first opened up in Lansing, IL a few decades ago the food was excellent. I used to pick up 24 wings every Friday night to feed my family. When the price went up, I stopped going there because I felt they were gouging their customers. Two weeks ago, I decided to try them again, so I ordered 12 wings and a large Pork Rib Tip. The Rib Tips were very tough, but the wings were fresh and hot. This week I ordered 24 wings for $34.99. I was expecting tax, but the bill came to $41.81. I looked at the receipt to see why they charged so much and saw a 10% ($3.50) wing up charge. How chintzy is that? The wings were not like the previous week either, they were mostly black at the bone. I'm never going there again. What a gimmick!!! put the price for the wings on the menu and skip the wing charge. It's not the end of the world, so I chucked it up as a lesson learned. My Lesson: never order from Kenny's Ribs & Chicken again. And speaking of chicken. My wings were hard! And I prefer my chicken with less feathers. Wait, I prefer no feathers at all! There was hardly any sauce on the chicken. And the fries were desert dry...and BURNT! They tasted old and reheated. The young ladies behind the counter continued their conversation when we walked in and literally ignored us, and after a few minutes, I asked my wife if she was acknowledged, which served to prompt them to ask for our order. I wasn't eating, so nothing for me, but my wife ordered a medium tip. The girls continued to have a discussion concerning a customer complaint of not receiving her order, and the young lady seemed to more than justify the error by blaming the customer. Interesting conversation to openly have in front of customers... Anyway, I digress. In no time, less the. 3 minutes, my wife's number is shockingly called, and her response "is this the other customer's missing order because this was too fast?" The cook's retort, "no ma'am, your order is freshly made!" We go home and my wife dug in right away, and after an hour, I noticed a few tips remained, so what the hell, let me kill it. Actually I have been frequenting this location for years. I usually stop in order and take my food to go. I have to admit, I love the sauce. This location has a sort of Burger King/McDonalds seating feel to it. Which is why I take my order to go. The seating area isn't very enticing. I have to admit that I could not help laughing as I read some of the previous reviews. Unlike some of my previous critics, I have never had a bad experience with the staffing at this location. As far as the food goes, I always request my sauce on the side, so that I don't receive the oldest ribs from the smoker. If you don't say anything, well... you might just end up with some dry ribs that have been covered with sauce. After the ribs are slathered you have no idea what they previously looked like. My go to ribs here are the baby backs. I try not to order the chicken because they tend to dry it out. read more

I am a long time patron of Kenny's; these ribs are from my childhood. However, the recent closing of both Chicago Kenny's (87th & Stony and Hyde Park and even Aurora (imagine that)) left me pondering whether I'd ever eat ribs again. Imagine my astonishment when my husband's work led to the discovery of a Kenny's in the south suburbs. We ordered for take out a small link and an order of ribs, both with mild sauce. And unlike at the Aurora location, my European-American ( :) ) husband was not asked if he wants sauce on his fries! We returned home, tore open the bag, and proceeded to chow down. Their ribs are St. Louis and come with the standard bread and little cup of cole slaw. The ribs and the fries from this location were good (and of course the cole slaw). But what stands out about Kenny's in general is the sauce, it is excellent. It is so good, that many of my college afternoons were spent eating fries with sauce (still one of my favorites). In addition, Kenny's hot links are like the only ones I will eat. However, at this location, the hot links were not the best as they seemed somewhat reheated.
